  I've recently updated to El Capitan. I can't using spotlight in a finder window to locate the files.

  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

  Here's the situation:

  I assigns a number to each project that I'm working. The name of each file in the project begins with this number. For example project 3639 includes files named 3639.html, 3639 - 1.jpg, 3639 - 2.jpg and so on. They are located in different folders on the hard drive. To display a list of them all in one place I open a finder window, type 3639 in the spotlight box and voila - there is a list of all my project files.

  It works as usual for some files, but not others. Specifically the spot will not show me files whose names begin with 1 or 2 and are over 3 digits long. By example, if I search for 2344 I get NO RESULTS. But if I look for 234 and then I get a long list that includes the files starting with 2344. So I can scroll down and get the files I need, just ignoring all other files, but it adds the time and trouble to my file maintenance tasks, and it seems strange - why spotlight can find some files but not others.

  It took me all morning to get to this day. At first, I though that spot just didn't work at all. I searched 2344 and saw nothing, even though I know that the files are there. I can go to them in their respective folders, see them, then open them. But I can just no longer use spotlight to easily group and it makes me very frustrated!

  Since then, I have a clumsy work around maybe that's considered the issue is resolved. Unless someone has a cleaner solution.

When I open a Finder window, it is empty and sometimes even shows the desktop or parts of the application 'through' underlying window. When I force-quit Finder and recovery, the first time I open a Finder window opens normally, but after a time freezes. Opening of windows within the application file works normally, so I can access my files in this way, but it is very annoying. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? You can provide any help will be greatly appreciated.

  Boot without failure and then stop and start normally seems to have solved the problem (I'm crossing my fingers as I type).

  Temporarily remove com.apple.finder.plist and test.

  Close all windows and close all applications.

  Hold down the option key and click on the "Go" in the Finder menu bar menu.

  Select 'Library' in the menu drop-down, then the folder "Preferences".

  Search for this file.

  com Apple.Finder.plist

  Right-click on it and select "Move to trash" from the context menu.

  Restart the computer.

  If this does not help:

  In the print menu, check "scale to fit media" under the Position and size of the device and then check out.

  If you want the area selected for printing, check "Print selected area" under the Position and size and specify the size.

  A week ago, my computer stopped showing me an icon for my DVD player. When I go into the Device Manager there is no option for CD/DVD players.   Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
  ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and

  Sorry to post this again - the first accidentally got marked as resolved, but it is not and I still need help.

  I recently installed at El Capitan on my iMac, and now, when I use the command + tab to toggle an application by opening a window of Finder, I get that the Finder menu bar. The open Finder window is located in the window menu, and I choose to see it and use it. Before the upgrade, command-tab would be near the top of the Finder window currently open and active. How do I get it to behave as it did before? I HATE having to select the window menu item! AND when I select the window from the window menu, the bar menu auto mask, that I also hate. Automatic masking occurs only in the Finder, and he is not selected in the settings of my Apple.

  I think you have Finder mode full-screen. I do not use full screen at all, so I'm not really familiar with it, but what seems to work for me was to switch to Finder and select the window from the window menu, and then press ESC to exit full-screen.

  Scan of AV scan anti-virus - using any AV software, you have installed, then Malwarebytes to be on the safe side.

  If it is only with this account, it is corrupt.  Your user profile may be corrupted.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.

  I would consider it the highest priority that other procedures are General and you have now isolated the problem only one account - so, in theory, once we fix that the problem should be solved.  Hold off on everything until it's over and you have verified that the problem is solved.

  If this does not solve the problem (it should really - I'll be very surprised if it isn't), then continue with the other steps.  Even if the issue is resolved, I'd still run AV controls when you are finished, because who could have easily caused the problem in the first place.  Other running procedures also would not hurt that he would check that things are otherwise very much so I hope it does not return the problem and we can ID and solve these problems (if there is) until they get no worse.

  I have a DeskJet 6988 printer that is connected wireless to my home network. I have two Macs, two Snow Leopard running that allows to connect to my DeskJet 6988 Hello impression. After the upgrade, the "Add a printer" window would not show my printer. I installed HP v2.1 for Mac OS X printer drivers (available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907) and also tried to reconnect my printer with an ethernet cable.

  I was able to manually add my printer by following these steps:

  -Install Mac OS X 10.6.1 using the software update

  -Install the latest drivers from HP printer from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907

  -Open System Preferences and go to the "Print & Fax".

  -Click the "+" button in the lower left corner of the window of preferences "Print & Fax".

  -Click the icon of the "intellectual property" at the top of the window "add a printer".

  -Select "HP Jetdirect - taken" in the "Protocol:"drop-down box.

  -Type the IP address of your printer in the "address:"field.

  -Make sure that the "print using:" drop-down list reads ' HP Deskjet 6980 series ' "»

  -Click on 'Add' in the lower right of the window "add a printer".

  Your printer should work! The key ingredient is to select 'HP Jetdirect - taken' in the 'Protocol' drop down box, I tried "Line Printer Daemon - LPD" and it did not work.
