I recently found a few Google and Youtube search, on my boyfriend's computer results in Firefox, which were "questionable" and when I asked him about them, he categorically denied knowing what they were and said he recently had some viruses on their computer and they could have put these results there. 1. The free versions of these scanners will detect infections and clean your system; no need to buy
    2. Scanners different malware detect some malware that other scanners do not have.
    3. If you are unable to download malicious programs,
      • change the name of the Installer before you save the download on your hard drive, and
      • Once installed, go to the installation to the program folder and change the name of the executable file of the program (i.e. for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, change mbam.exe to xyz - mb.exe), then update the program and run the scan.
      • You may need to download on a non infected computer, change the name of the Setup program, copy setup from a CD or USB and transport to your system for installation.
    4. Some stubborn malware should be deleted in Windows Safe Mode with setting network '. Warning: download all the tools first, then disconnect your modem before entering Mode Windows safe, as your firewall and AV/AS probably does not load mode Windows safe. See:

  • How to set Google as default search engine in Firefox 5? I tried several fixes, but I get a Yahoo instead of Google search.

I want to use Google as my search engine, but no matter what I change the default search engine settings is still Yahoo.

I would also like to have the track back feature when I opened a new tab, it shows often used pages that I can click on and open.

First of all, thanks to dmcritchie. His solution was helpful. However, I didn't uninstall my Yahoo Toolbar because I have buttons, bookmarks, etc. that do not migrate.

For those of you, like me, who want to continue to use your Yahoo toolbar as well as the use of the Google toolbar, here's another solution:

Rather than uninstall the Yahoo toolbar just hide it. Go to the command bar, select view > toolbars > then uncheck Yahoo toolbar. (See first image)

    Then...

    1. Open a new tab.
    2. Go to the address bar and type auto: config and press the Enter key.
    3. A warning box appears. Close the box by clicking on the button "I'll be careful, I promise". (See the second picture)

    When the text comes up,

    1. Scroll down until you find "browser.search.defaulturl" it will be in bold. Third image, with the selection highlighted by me)
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Then,.

    1. Scroll down until you find "keyword." URL"it will be in bold.
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
     http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Finally,.

    1. Scroll down further until you find "yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src" again, it will be in bold.
    2. Right-click on the expression, and then select 'Edit'.
    3. Type (or copy / paste) in the following:

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

    1. Close the tab

    And you're done.

This will allow you to keep all the buttons and bookmarks you have in your Yahoo toolbar without side effects unpleasant to have Yahoo away your research and give you the darned Search 404 error pages.

    I hope this helps.

PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval. Be clear about what "preference name" you have accessed and what 'value' you changed. " In this way, if necessary, you can always go back and everything returns to its previous state. I titled my document "Firefox AboutConfig Changes".

    Good luck!

  • How to remove the default Firefox 38.0.1 yahoo search (Macintosh)

How can I remove the automatic reset of Firefox for the terrible yahoo search engine? I want Google as default search engine. Here's what I've tried:
    a. choose Google over yahoo and then remove the yahoo of preferences: Firefox always springs back to yahoo.
    b. download the app 'Google by default'. It worked on previous versions of Firefox, before V 38.0.1. But it seems that the commercial interests behind now bypassed Firefox that, as well, because that 'Default Google' application now no longer works.
    c. erasing and then re - install the "Google by default" application. No improvement.

If there is no way to deal with this, so I'm dumping FF and switch to Google Chrome.

Hello, I am wary of some of your extensions, please Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

If the problem is caused by an extension, once it has been removed or disabled, you may need to run SearchReset to restore your settings.

  • How to change Mozilla.cfg to set google as default search engine

Need help with our setting mozilla.cfg file to change the default to yahoo search engine to google.
Browser.search.defaultenginename in comments: config already has the default value of 'google', so doesn't justing adding this line of modzilla.cfg - ' pref ("browser.search.defaultenginename", "google", as its currently by default.)

I noticed that if I manually change the search provider (thru the interface), then this value changes from 'default' to 'user set', which retains google as the default search engine. So how do I either set this value as 'user set' within mozilla.cfg, or use some alternative?

You can restore the change in Google Yahoo search engine in the Firefox 34.0.5 by enabling / disabling browser.search.isUS to false.
Note that only 34.0.5 replaces the default search by Yahoo! engine.

I have a Macbook Pro and need advice for the resolution of this problem on my Macbook Pro, not a PC. Can you help me?

As a result of one of these points, a possible culprit would be an extension. If you prefer a little troubleshooting before using Refresh...

You can view, turn off and often remove unwanted extensions or unknowns on the page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a (Windows: Ctrl + Shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right side. All extensions are optional. When in doubt, turn off.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Any improvement?

  • Firefox won't open any search with a search engine query. All are UNTRUSTED.

I run the operating system MS Windows 7 Premium with Kaspersky as my security software.

Then checked again. It seems to be security settings of Firefox and not Kaspersky causing the problem. Just in case it's Kaspersky, I added Google as an exception, but the problem persists. I also added Google as an exception of certificate in the Firefox config. and the problem still persists.

    The problem:

I just can't open any page of web search in Firefox through any search engine because Firefox says that all are "unreliable", but I can open these pages in other web browsers.

    Any search gives this:

Well the miserable loader does not load the image. So much for this, but basically, the notification is that "THIS CONNECTION IS UNTRUSTED" and the issuer of the certificate is unknown. Says error code "unknown sender".

I do not get the ability to ignore the warning, so I have no other choice but to close the page each time. A nightmare, what makes Firefox unusable. Not sure that this is being caused by a recent Google update or the update of Firefox.

I've checked then once again my security settings of Firefox and for the life of me, cannot understand why this has suddenly started happening out of the blue.

    Please note:

    1. I have Google as my search engine by default and Firefox as my home page.

    2. I've updated automatically, but had to remove like my Firefox default browser - temporary I hope.

    3. I've never used the default theme of Firefox.

    4. I already re-set/updated the browser by using the refresh/reset link in everything: support/troubleshooting Information. That did not help.

    5. I have Google as a reliable (in exceptional cases) site, in Firefox and Kaspersky, but that doesn't seem to help.

    5. have you spent to help and clicked on everything: firefox and get this report:

Well there it is again - uploader is still running madly and never deliver - 10 minutes later - nothing downloaded. Version control on my Firefox in a dialog box States: 'FIREFOX 40.0.2 Firefox's update

    6. again on another page the search for my problem, I see this:

Far out! Why this uploader freaking does not work? I have to type everything, besides being tedious, this gives you no verification. A line of text after another says:

"Congratulations!" You use the latest version of Firefox.
"Looks like you are using an older version of Firefox. Update on the Google game'
"Contgrats!" You use the latest version of Firefox.

    Then further:

In an area of button: "Refresh Firefox" I made according to the description.

    Immediately below that, it says:

'Looks like you are using an older version of Firefox'... and in a direct link below:

"updated to stay fast and safe"... Is this for real? [This would be more credible in a screenshot].

7 about: support/troubleshooting Information I deleted my profile page and restarted Firefox by following the instructions.

    8. made no difference. Delete the file again and everything closed and restarted the system. That didn't work, either.

    9. all the text that I read in Firefox 'aid' resembles a cached page. I can't reveal all 'real' web pages in Firefox browser in Firefox support at all for some reason any.

I love Firefox as a browser, but hate its constant glitches. For more than 10 years, I hate to admit it, I used that is never a problem. Then I switched to Google Chrome for another 5 years, with never a problem - outside the mining data and espionage which I hate and that's why I finally changed to Firefox. Firefox is the choice... but it's also a bloody choice as head banging and maybe it's just enough to make me give up on this.

https connections are there to make sure you're traffic is encrypted and you talk to the Web server that you expect to. What happens technically with kaspersky, it is essentially a man-in-the-middle attack, which firefox reports to you as it should be - your web traffic does not go to google when you type in www.google.com, but for kaspersky.
There are ways around that for av-vendors (such as the injection of their certificate root in the browser (it might go missing again after an update of firefox), but if there is a problem with you contact kaspersky support because they will be responsible for applying the product they offer properly.)

in all cases, allowing the characteristics as https in your av software can even let you more vulnerable, because browser vendors have now greater expertise in how to use and implement encryption properly: http://www.scmagazineuk.com/updated-kaspersky-leaves-users-open-to-freak-attack/article/411470/
