Firefox 4.0.1 Star Page questions

A friend just set to upgrade to Firefox 4.0.1 they run windows 7. Start Pages appears however; It seems to be missing several things on the start page. Fox of fire for the page icon is rather at the top middle, then right, also Google search boxes are not there... No 'Start Firefox' appears. Upper left is missing ' Web, Images, videos, Maps, News etc... »
Everything seems to work in research, but it's concerning that there may be other underlying problems as well.

The Firefox start page has changed; It is only a brand custom on Google.compage. If Google is preferred, it may be more simple just do the Google homepage. (I don't know if there is a way to change the built-in start page.)

  • Firefox opens on a different page.

Firefox opens on a different page, opens with a football icon and not the normal firefox icon.
    It started just today.

Were you able to open the topic: config page through the address bar and the pref browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl the value of an empty string?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about + House in the closed Firefox with Firefox profile folder (Firefox '3-bar' menu button > exit/Quit) remove code snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox to use a default extract value.

You can reset the pref browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl through the context menu on the default to reactivate the code snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-trunk-fort-about + folder.

You can also check if you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: open with) If you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • On a page at random, Firefox briefly displays the start page by leaving the program.

When I am browsing a web site randomly and I click on the close button in the upper right, Firefox briefly displays my start page (google) before leaving.

  • Why Firefox was leaving my home page is not displayed correctly?

I currently use version 3.6.24 Firefox on my PPC mac with 10.4.11 system. I use Firefox for many years without any problems. I received yesterday and on my screen to alert that there is a new update of Firefox available at the facility. I clicked on OK and the update started. When it's over, I checked and it's the same version, 3.6.24, I used and apparently nothing has changed until I went to my eBay site. Once on my site, I signed in and went to manage my Articles page. The page was different because normally it shows all the items, I have for sale and at the top of the list of points of sale are the three items to check and look at my listings, which I look at you, my profile and my alerts. When you click on one of them you are normally taken to another page. When I went there after apparent installation of the updated release of Firefox page showed my ads in a single column, my profile in another column and third column for my alerts all on one page. This is not normal. I got out and went to my home page which is http://www.rr.com/. Now it was different. Parts of the site have disappeared, the sections with the weather, news, and reviews. I thought it might be the site and then I launched Safari and went to the same page and it is normal. This morning when I started Firefox it shows my home page as screwed up as yesterday. Safari has shown as it should look like. I then started SeaMonkey and it showed the page as it should look like. I really like Firefox and I'd like to get it working again as it should. Would appreciate any suggestions. My email address is [email protected]

My computer opens internet Explorer, but not firefox, a browser that I used almost exclusively on this machine for several years. Some users have accidentally lost their home page and modules using the Refresh function during their update. This can happen when you see a prompt that Firefox is slow at the start and you can speed it up by restoring some default settings. If you click this button, your Firefox settings folder is moved to your desktop in a folder called old data from Firefox. Do you see something like that? If so, I suggest hanging for a few weeks, in the case where you notice something else missing. Feel free to ask questions about the rescue of the data in this folder.

  • After upgrdes Firefox crashes, is slow and pages Web do not load or do not work properly. These sites work in other browsers.

I used FF for years and until the recent updates had no problem. Since upgrades FF is unresponsive or crashes frequently. Do not load pages or if they do not load they cling just forever. I went through the info on the help available and the proposed resolution has failed. Until upgrades FF for me was the most stable browser option.
I use this for work and do not have the time for questions, in that I continue to run and having to use two browsers is stupid.

OK, a few reports of incidents that have been submitted are blocking flash - which will be difficult to resolve because the plugin is like a black box. There was a flash adobe released update today, then you could see if it can improve things: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

  • How to finish an incomplete Firefox sync put up a page?

I'm finishing my sync set up the page. Keep in mind, I'm an amateur on a computer. I can do simple things like create files, use of bookmarks, basic stuff only. I'm not familiar with the term, and I can't find very easy things. Example: where is about.config? I think I know what it is but have no idea where to find it. My point is, if you have an answer to my question please provide many specific details.
When I started the synchronization implemented, I was invited for the e-mail and the password. I used an old computer back in the day, so I have started something with FF. I don't really know. I chose the password reset link.
After resetting my password it took me to the next page where a tab appeared in the top, right side of the window. I don't know what he says or what it is, because I only caught a glimpse of her. I must have done something wrong, because the tabs started loading at an alarming rate. [Not the first time.] My only option was to close and restart. Accordingly, I have not finished my sync to create pages. I can go to the log in page, log in, and a small window pops up with a button 'manage' in there. He has also three links, log, delete the account or change password. When I click on manage it takes me to the window options. . After much research I realized that I need a key and an email confirmation. Setting up sync FF section only pertains to devices not computers. I spent all today of research on each article that I could find, without any result. I thought to delete the account and starting over, but I don't know if FF will allow me to create a new account. I would really finish setting up my account and use the synchronization feature. Can anyone help? I could use some fresh ideas.

    .

There is no 'key' for the last synchronization version. This is a feature that was last used in Firefox 28!

Just start over with Sync - there is no limit to how many accounts of synchronization that you create. Although, you will have a new email address the need to have several accounts in Sync.

Overall, I created 6 different sync accounts over the years; 3 are currently in use on different profiles. I use these accounts to compare and contrast how Sync meets the pref settings; as well as having a different set of bookmarks in every room - achievements - Firefox support.

  • I've been running firefox for about 4 years now and love. recently I registered in firefox, the blank cover running page, I have it on my list of authorized contacts.

I've been running firefox now for about 4 years and love. Recently, I tried signing and he spends just a blank page. I uninstalled it and re installed nothing helps. I have it on my list for my wall of green fire and we tried all the difficulties that I can. can you please help. I use your program running my websites so much better than chrome or internet explore. attached is a photo of what I experience when I'm trying to sign. than you in advance. Colleen

Hi Colleen, assuming that it is not a problem of external software, then the next few things to try include:

    Firefox Safe mode

It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable extensions, hardware acceleration, and a few other advanced features of Firefox. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

If the menus are usable, you can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

If the menus are not usable, exit/crash Firefox and hold down the SHIFT key when you start again. A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    You can load pages?

If you have the same problem, it could be something in your settings or in the Firefox program folder. These approaches test these possibilities.

    Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will be your plugins installed by system (for example, Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions or other customizations. It should also come with fresh data bases of completely fresh settings and a cache folder.

Out of Firefox and start in the profile using Start Manager > Search box (or run):

    firefox.exe -P

    Do not delete anything here.

Any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.

Click on the button to create a profile, assign a name like Dec17 and ignore the possibility of changing the location of the folder. Then launch Firefox in the new profile that you have created.

You can load all the pages in the new profile?

If so, this looks like a settings problem. If this isn't the case, it could be the Firefox program files corruption. See the "Clean reinstall" section below.

When you return to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the button to delete the profile. It's a little too easy to accidentally delete your 'real' profile, so I recommend you to resist the temptation. If you don't want to clean up later, I suggest to make a backup of all your profiles first in case something go wrong.

To keep the new profile, and migrate the data, see the article: recovery of data from an old profile.

Or as an interim measure, you can return to your regular profile and try the Reset/Refresh function. This article describes what is preserved and lost in this process: Refresh Firefox – reset settings and Add-ons.

    Clean reinstall it

    (1) download a fresh Installer for Firefox 34 of https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ in an ideal location. (Scroll down your preferred language).

    (2) the release of Firefox.

    (3) to rename the program folder

    (Windows 32-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

    (Windows 64-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

    (4) run the installer you downloaded in the #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

When you start Firefox, you may need to use the Profile Manager to return to your regular profile.

    Any improvement?

Note: Some plugins recently installed can exist only in this OldFirefox file. If it is missing something essential, present in these files:

    • \OldFirefox\Plugins
    • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
