  This procedure will unlock all your user (not system files) files and reset their ownership, permissions and default access controls.   I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was last updated to Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but it did not help and I had the same problem.

I went in my Add-ons Manager and disabled, restarted Firefox and tabs worked properly again.
