    john99, thanks for the links. I went through all (again), one by one. The last link kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic showed me what helped. I've renamed "firefox.exe" to "firefox1.exe" and was able to use firefox.

    It made me suspect the firewall or malicious software. I ran a Malwarebytes full scan, zero problems detected. One possible cause is security software (firewall, antivirus) that prevents or limits Firefox or plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

    Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

  • xdg-open does not take into account the url and opens the different website when Firefox is the default browser in Ubuntu

    I am running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with Firefox version 38 for Ubuntu
    It is complected, and I tried to explain everything clearly.

    Today, I noticed a strange behavior.
    I have several URL saved as .desktop files.

    I use webupd8.org as example.
    The code for the exec in the desktop file is:
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open http://www.webupd8.org/

    Today, I noticed that if I try to go to webupd8.org, or most of the other sites, by launching the .desktop file for this site, or by typing the url
    Code:

    http://www.WebUpd8.org/

    in the dashboard Firefox opens to a completely different site. The site that opens is a site that I set up for my children's grandparents to watch videos and see photos of the children. This Web site opens each time. I'm not be directed to a site at random each time. This is the case when I try to visit the webupd8.org OR one of several websites using .desktop file or enter the url you want in the dashboard. Whenever I went to my own domain.

    It happens that I have also several sites registered in a reminder in the Firefox icon in the Launcher sidebar thing in Ubuntu.
    In the case of the beast, the exec code is slightly different and it still responds as it should. In this case, I have:
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab http://www.webupd8.org/

    Also, if I change my default in opera browser, for example as .desktop files and entering the url directly in the dashboard work as it should.

    To recap:

    When Firefox is the default browser, enter a url in the dashboard or use a to surf to a desired site .desktop file causes my be redirected to my own domain name (which is hosted remotely and not on this computer).

    If, however, I change the Exec command in the .desktop file
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open <url>

    TO
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab < url >

    the .desktop file will open Firefox and go to the desired site.

    If I change the browser by default Firefox to another browser, everything works as it should and has always so far. That is, with the Opera for example, both
    Code:

    Exec=xdg-open <url>

    and
    Code:

    Exec = firefox-new-tab < url >

    result in the browser by opening and going on the planned site. Typed a url in the dashboard is not a problem if the default browser is not Firefox.

    Anyone seen this before? If so, how to solve it?

    Thank you very much for your answers!
    I checked the url of the home page in Firefox and it has been set at startpage.com, but then when I looked at the default programs in Ubuntu, I noticed that the default program for the web had been unintentionally configured to use a .desktop file that leads to t he admin for my Web site login page.

    I changed this back to Firefox and the problem was solved.

  • How can I remove firefox as my default browser?

    I need to use firefox for some courses online. However, it seems goof place I use other access. So I need to remove it as my browser by default and only access through it to the training site

    It is on your Windows XP system?

    First, disable the setting Firefox to check if it is the default browser. You can do so here:

    "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > general

    Uncheck the "always check if Firefox is your default browser"

    Then open the browser you WANT to be the default browser and use any option it must have it be default.

    (Windows has other ways to change your default, but let the browser do it is the most complete and reliable method).

  • When I ask Firefox to get whatever it is, the answer is provided by Google, why, even if Firefox is my default browser?

    Firefox is my default browser, but the answers to any question search provided by Google.

    Mozilla never has not its own search site as a research site for example bing.com, google.com, yahoo.com etc.

    You can choose one of the search engines by default that comes in the search bar or you can add another site to say http://mycroftproject.com/

    It seems that if you do not use en Firefox as otherwise you would get from search results to Yahoo rather default since Firefox 34.0

    Did you expect from a url of mozilla.org results?

    I was just trying to find answers in the kb articles. The one I posted actually said to use the Safari option.

    On your screen, you're in the Firefox options and who can help, but you're left most tab [general] you must be in the [Advanced] tab on the right
    See Make Firefox default browser

    I don't think that really change the default browser just stops Firefox is the default browser all the time. You must always follow the other article, which says:

    Using your operating system

    1. From the dock, open Safari.
    2. In the menu bar, click on the Safari menu and select Preferences...
    3. Click the general icon, to display the General preferences panel.
    4. In the default Web browser: drop-down list, select Firefox.
    5. Quit Safari

    Hello

    Firefox on Windows is now after display, scaling options that can make the biggest text on screens at high resolution.
    You can adjust the resolution of your screen.
    To change it follow these steps:

    • Type of topic: config in the Firefox address bar and hit the Enter key.
    • If the warning that this might void your warranty , click I'll be careful, I promised.
    • Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

    • Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to edit its value. The default value is - 1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to 1.0 to run as in previous versions of Firefox.

    If necessary, further adjust the value of 0.1 or 0.05. Values between 1.0 and around 0.5 to reduce the size of the elements. Use a value greater than 1.0 to increase the size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase the font size of the 125% to account for the default DPI setting in Windows 8. Check the value that you enter. Definition of a value that is too small will take everything away and too high will explode things.

    If the web pages should always be adjusted so you can watch the extension Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint .

    To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the extension of theme font & size changer .

    This solve your problems? Please report to us!

    Thank you.

  • Why links will not open an e-mail if Firefox is the default browser

    I still have this problem and now it's starting to affect the functionality of browsers and ease of use. When Firefox is my default browser, any link outside of Firefox (as in my e-mail address) will not be open that becomes a nuisance. I am running Windows 7, which can be the cause of the problem through a setting but I can't find the needle in a haystack, or it may occur to an update of Firefox. Firefox is my favorite and only since Netscape 1.0 browser, but if I can't solve this problem I'll have to switch to another which I really don't want to do. Help!

    Tip: If you're feeling adventurous, try downloading FireFox 13.0.1 from:

    FTP://FTP.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/Firefox/releases/13.0.1/Win32/en-us/

    This site is an official mirror of Mozilla and has the GpG signature file in the folder with the executable file.

    I had to go back to 13.0.1 to get my links to open correctly.

  • Firefox is my default browser, but Bing is displayed when you open a new tab. How can I stop this?

    I installed Firefox as my default browser with Google as my default search engine. I've eliminated Bing in the drop-down list in Firefox of spare engines. However, when I am browsing and open a new tab, the Bing search page appears. Google is still in the line of research at the top of the page.

    I want Google to be the search engine displayed, not Bing.

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third part of Firefox 4 version that works under OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details, see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

    Hello

    I'm not 100% sure that understand your problem. What you have said, I think you are saying that you have changed your default Firefox browser, and the desktop icons all passed under the icon of internet Explorer (blue e) to the firefox icon. You have changed the default back to IE browser, but the icons have not changed back, and when you click on them, they open in Firefox.

    If this is the case, the problem is with your default browser configuration. What you have said, you have already settled it in the browser similar to the support article. for some reason any Windows has not changed the default browser.

    You can try (in Win 7) open the Control Panel, then programs-> set default programs and click Internet Explorer in there, then "set this program as default.
