Firefox won't open - taskbar icon looks active but won't display

Firefox does not open on the screen. The icon in my tray tasks shows a window, but the window does not open the monitor. I can RT. Click the icon and select Refresh, or maximize but no help. I'm under Win10. It also will not open on the screen when you attempt to do safe mode.

Try to open the system menu via Alt + space to see if this helps to move the window in the view.

Try to rename (or delete) the file xulstore.json in the Firefox profile folder.

  • C:\Users\ < user > < profile > \AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.

"AppData" (XP: Application data;) Mac: ~ / library. Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

I rebooted the computer several times and I tried to uninstall and install. Nothing.
And nothing came on an AVG scan.
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

If possible to uninstall your current version of Firefox to clean the Windows registry and settings in the security software.

    • Do NOT remove the "personal data" when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords including data profiles created by other versions of Firefox.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but make sure that 'delete personal data' is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep problems also create a new profile.

There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:

  • I have Firefox pinned to my taskbar in Win 8, but when I open it, one get a second icon.

Until very recently, I had Firefox did the fallen on my desktop Windows 8. When I open it, a gray box is placed around the icon. Now, when I open the program, a second icon appears, and it is the one with the gray box. How can I go back to firefox as an icon? I know that I can detach and that seems to work, but it is more convenient to the pinned. I think that has changed with a recent version of upgrade, but I don't know which.

Someone knows how to fix this?

    Thank you

This link was the answer in the form of a comment from another user having the same problem. The solution is to remove the icon that is always there, leaving just the person who manifests when Firefox is active. It remains and works as it should.

I can't thank you all enough for sticking with this problem. It wasn't a major problem, but it was a gene that I am happy to no longer have to deal with.

  • Firefox does not open to the blank page, but always by default is return to the Home Page.

I continue to reset Firefox (latest version) to open a blank page, but he continues to open up to the default Home Page. This homepage has a unwanted Firefox logo in the Middle, with a search bar under. I don't want to see it all when I opened Firefox, but can't seem to get rid of it. There is nothing in the Extensions or Plug-Ins that could cause this.

  • After the 24 Firefox update, Windows 7 64-bit breaks on reboot. The network in the taskbar icon is not ready (blue circle stopped).

After 24 of Firefox update, Windows 7 breaks after the reboot. The network in the taskbar icon is not ready (blue circle on the wireless network icon). But I can't do much. I can't open the network and sharing Center (never opened). Even the Task Manager hangs when I click to show processes from all users. I have to do a system restore for a network working again. I never even launched Firefox.

Wow... I finally have the solution. Windows updates have been applied at the same time I updated Firefox. Bluetooth driver is what broke (which is part of the Centrino wireless). I ended up installing the latest driver from Intel, Windows Update, and then update Firefox... and all is well.

I thank very you much for all your help. Take care.

  • 10.0 Firefox now creates a new icon on the taskbar of Windows 7 whn launched. Why?

With earlier versions of Firefox on Windows 7, I got 1 icon on the task bar and I would stay at this icon to go to the program. Now, at the launch of Firefox, that it creates an icon on the taskbar and it is confusing, because I'm used to return to the original icon, except that now it opens a new session of Firefox that I don't want. How to return to 1 icon?

After clicking on the favorite taskbar icon and firefox opens a "new Session".
DETACH the old icon and the PIN, then the "New Session" icon.

Then from this point on 1 single icon will appear in the taskbar.

  • Firefox won't open the shockwave flash files because there are 2 types?

Firefox does not open some swf files when I say that this is the cause. However, http://edmullen.net/test/poopboy.swf works fine.

I looked in my Options-> Applications menu and found this http://i.imgur.com/kPVOHdE.png

So it has got 2 different types of SWFs to meet him. I can't tell the top affliate background is the same way.

I tried to uninstall the plugin. This removed the bottom and meant that the poopboy.swf I also linked didn't work in the same way, however, put it back, I was just back to the drawing board.

I want to add that these particular .swf files that I'm running worked yesterday so file corruption is not the problem, especially since I went and all the redownloaded.

These two SWF entries are on different MIME types that first one appears to be damaged or at least unusual. and probably the second (application/x-shockwave-flash) should be there.

You can rename (or delete) the file mimeTypes.rdf in the profile folder of Firefox to reset all the actions file.

  • 29.0.1 Firefox won't open links that require a new tab to be opened.

29.0.1 Firefox won't open links that require a new tab to be opened.

What type of links are those?

As far as I KNOW, there is HTML code specific opening in a new tab, as it is to open a new window. Please enlighten me if this is something new to HTML5 that I haven't read.

Now, Firefox has a preference in Options > tabs to open new windows in a new tab instead - you have this pref checked?
