Firewall Windows 7 turns off intermittently, sometimes after WSUS updates

Firewall Windows 7 turns off intermittently, sometimes after WSUS updates and other times when no updates have been pushed back.  He did 3 days now online this week.  Last week, a day, two weeks before anything.  It's a Dell latitude E6400, with the latest version of the Bios, chipset and device drivers.  Running Office 2010, Visio Pro 2010 and AutoCad 2012, as the main applications.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply.

You have installed on the computer registry cleaners?

I suggest you to scan SFC (System File Checker) and check if it helps.

SFC scan will search the system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7 system files

    Puneet salvation,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

I'll be happy to help you with the problem you have with the computer. I understand the frustration when things do not work as it should.

You may encounter network or problems of Internet in Windows for several reasons. Some common problems that can cause these problems are:

    • Corrupt or incompatible drivers.
    • Network connection settings.
    • Hardware or software problems.
    • There is interference with other devices.
    • Your router and your PC network card can not work together.

I suggest you follow the below troubleshooting methods and check if it solves the problem.

Method 1: Run the network adapter Troubleshooter

If you cannot connect to a network, it could be a problem with your network adapter, the piece of hardware that allows your PC to connect to a network.

First of all, try to use the network adapter troubleshooting utility to automatically find and fix some problems. This troubleshooting will be disable and re-enable the adapter and try a few other common repairs. Here's how:

    1. open the Control Panel by right-clicking on the Start button.

2 in the search box, type Troubleshooting, and then click Troubleshooting.

3 click network and Internet, run the utility network adapter troubleshooting, and follow the instructions

    on your screen and check.

Method 2: Uninstall the network adapter driver and restart

Try to uninstall the network adapter driver, and then restart your computer and have Windows automatically installs the latest driver. Here's how:

    1. right-click on Start, select Device Manager and navigate to the network cards > network adapter

    name.

2 right click (or press and hold) the network card, and then select Uninstall > remove the driver

software for this device checkbox > OK to confirm that you want to uninstall.

3 after uninstalling the driver, click on the Start button > power > restart.

After restarting your PC, Windows will automatically search for and install the network adapter driver. Check to see if this solves your connection problem.

I hope this helps. If the issue is not resolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help you.

The only thing I can think of that would cause the computer shut down every 2 hours would be if you have the Windows 8 Preview of consumers or the Windows 8 Preview version. These two operating systems were copies of the assessments only and were set to expire on 15 January and 16 January.

  • How can I turn off the laptop after restoring it to factory settings?

    Hello everyone

I'm selling my Portege R830-10 q If I want to restore it to the settings to factory (out-of-box state) AND THEN TURN IT OFF.

I brought the laptop to factory settings successfully using the _TOSHIBA recovery Wizard_ and choosing * factory default software recovery (Recover State out-of-box) *. However, at the end of the process of recovery and after everything is back in place I was not able to TURN off the POWER to the laptop. It only gave me the option to restart. After rephrasing it, the Windows installation process starts.

I don't want to install Windows, i.e. language, keyboard, user account, etc. I want to leave the Windows installation for the person buying the laptop to me. How can I turn off the laptop after the recovery of the system without having to install Windows?

    I would appreciate your help.

    Concerning

    Pedro

When the recovery process is complete and you are prompted for a reboot just press start button / stop and turn it off. I think it's only thing you can do.

Anyway, why not start Windows and go through the configuration option. New owner can modify this basic anyway parameters. As username Admin and language and the keyboard can be set as default.

For example, if you have a picture of German recovery set to German. New owner can change in any case.

  • C50-A-1HF satellite will turn off by itself after 2 seconds

    Hello

the laptop turns off by itself after 2 seconds when I turn it on. This happens if I shutted down or choosed hibernate before (Win8.1).

This means hibernation is not at all useable.

The next time I turn it on it works quite normal! Sleep mode works as well. Standby mode it is ready for use after open them both as a repetitive. Fascinating!

I looked on all the settings of the BIOS, but I found nothing what could be the reason for this behavior.

Perhaps there is a correlation with another strange behavior. The battery will not be charged over 80%. I do not use the green mode. I have to turn off the laptop and remove the battery completely for a minute. After inserting and booting Win8.1 what it charges again at 100%.

The discharge time is approximately 3.5 hours. Otherwise, the battery is ok.

But after the next discharge up to 10% charge that up to 80% more.

These two effects are not normal. But I don't think (or better, I hope) that there is a material defect.

Is there a chance does not post the laptop to a repair service?

    Best regards

    Onurbi

Hey man it are so strange problems and it's not easy to say what to do. All you can do is to install the original recovery image and test with the settings once more, of course without changing anything or install updates or additional applications.

If possible to do this and test it for a while.
    > Is there a chance does not post the laptop to a repair service?
As you probably know your possibilities to do something about this are very limited and if there is permanent problem I think you should contact the closest service Toshiba and clarify all of this.
You have the new laptop model and it should work properly. If you are not happy and there are service problems Toshiba should take are about it and help you.

  • The WiFi Windows 8 will turn off intermittently.

Original title: wifi turns off aspire v3 atheros windows 8.

I have a brand new acer aspire laptop v3 - 771 g-6851. Atheros ar5bwb222 wifi adapter. the WiFi will go off intermittently. Windows diagnose connection program cannot find a problem, however, the wifi connection is restored once he finishes detection. After some tests, I also managed to understand that whenever the connection is lost, I can simply activate flight mode, and then turn off again, in order to get the wireless card back on and restore the connection with my router. I have a laptop windows 7 and a macbook pro laptop, both connect to the router with no problems. I used windows update to update the driver for the atheros card. Then, I went to the acer website and downloaded their latest driver and installed (version oct 2012). Having still intermittent disconnect every few minutes. Sometimes 3 minutes, sometimes 10.

I wonder if the driver of the card wifi atheros and windows 8 are having communication problems. Alternatively, I could have a faulty wifi adapter? Or is it a magical driver out there? Is this a known problem that can get fixed with SP1 for Windows 8? Recommendations?

    Hi Benjamin & Jeffrey

I had exactly the same problems with my Acer Aspire V3 - 771G with 8 Win x 64 installed.

The same Driver Atheros von too.

After trying a week and a half after the hours of work at home, I had a last option

before sending the new laptop back in Services.

I is gone from Acer Support & downloaded the latest Bios Update and the pilot

for the Wi - Fi adapter.

After uninstall of & install the new driver for the adapter, restarted Windows and had the same thing

Problem than usuall, no connection what so ever.

During the week, I tried that Nicolas had written but still did not get far.

Then I asked myself, I should or should not... Because I was so frustrated I installed the most recent Bios Update.

Open windows & whoopie it finally works again.

I hope that I could help with this message, see that there are more people out there with the same problems.

  • Spoolsv.exe has 99% of the cpu when I turned off the printer after printing.

    Original title: spoolsv.

I recently installed a new printer Lexmark Pro715.  Everything works fine, no problems with printing, but as soon as I put off the printer after printing, spoolsv.exe takes 99% CPU.  If I leave the printer in mode 'sleep', the problem is, but I do not often print, I prefer to turn off completely.  There is nothing in the print queue, everything else seems normal.  I can use the Task Manager to stop it, but this isn't a good solution in the long term.  I run MS Update and uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, with no effect.  It's driving me crazy.  I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

From what I've read on the Internet about the print spooler using 99 to 100%, Norton is also sometimes involved as a contributing factor to a runaway print spooler for some people (where my request).

IIRC, people would set their Norton to start a scan and when it was made, the print spooler has run amok at 100%:

"Because I have Norton Antivirus, do a system scan every Friday night that I happened to see that the value SPOOLSV. EXE is using almost 100% of the CPU of the morning Saturday. It's the only time that it happens, so I simply stop the process in the SERVICES window, and life is good. I don't know why Norton Antivirus it triggers during the scanning process that I couldn't find anything on the Symantec relating to this site. »

If the problem resurfaces surface, using abduction special tools on their website, you can uninstall your Norton and view the appearance of things without him - you can always reinstall again once, right?

I disagree with Norton in general for its CPU and memory hogging and known interference with other XP processes (such as the restoration of the system), so I'd keep which in mind if the problem returns.

A few years ago, I used to like Norton correct, but will never go back or recommend it.  Microsoft Security Essentials with it's lower overhead and footprint and some regular on the analyses at the request of the MBAM and SAS should hold your own system based on your surfing habits.  Your system will reward you with an improvement in the overall performance of the system as well.

I can tell you that no single AV tool seems to know everyting so it is safe to use several respectable scanning tools.  Norton certainly doesn't know everything.

    Hello

One of the reasons could be an infection of malicious software on the computer.

    ·         Which antivirus program is installed on the computer?

you can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to search for infection by the virus. Check out the following link.

Some antivirus programs turn off the Windows Firewall because they would have their own firewall. Check if this is true with one installed on your computer.

Usually, you can use jet of compressed air to clean the laptop and remove the dust that blocks the fan. That is why it s not necessary to disassemble the laptop as you can read here:

So I check the hidden items, but the Intel Pro 100 n/w adapter is missing. It shows that some in the list but all irrelevant.

    Have you tried running "sfc/scannow"?

To use the tool Checker (SFC) system files (described in:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747 ):

You must have your Windows XP installation CD and the CD of Service Pack 3.

If you do not have the SP3 CD, or order it (U.S. / Canada , Europe, Africa , Asia or South America ) from Microsoft or download the ISO (here ) and burn it.  You will need the installation CD and the SP3 CD.  Type:

    sfc/scannow

It will ask for the installation CD, insert it and take a break.  After a while he also want the Service Pack 3 CD.  Occasionally, SFC may want to replace things; Let him.

SFC can also, say that you have bad CD SP3.  I don't have a definitive answer to this problem.  You may be able to overcome by removing SP3 that you installed and re-setup from the SP3 CD then run SFC again.  (I think that it is because there are different language versions of service packs (include Multilingual).) ( Be sure to select the language appropriate for your ISO ).

Sounds like hardware, so you should seek the help of a real computer (not the leeks and pics store
at a Best Buy or other department stores) or system manufacturer support.

If a PC unplug ALL and then reinstall the cards memory and cables (at both ends) - in fact
delete and replace - do not just tight. Clean the dust bunnies and ensure that fans
    and the vents are clean.

Good luck its associated heat so try adding a small fan blowing through the vents to see if that helps.
Not all heat problems can be solved by adding a fan, but if it helps at least a
