Flickering desktop icons prevent access to everything except E-mail & MS Works Word

For several days the icons on my desktop have been flickering.  I can't access all programs except MS Works Word and e-mail.  However, I discovered that in writing a few words in the works of MS Word and leaving open, stops flickering and all is fine.  I use Windows VISTA Home Premium.  I have:

  • Restored to an earlier date when it was working fine
  • Clean registry & everything else that I could clean up
  • Run deep scans for viruses & spyware
  • Reset the settings of the monitor, various times
  • Update graphics (HP tech instructions)
  • Reinstalled video driver (HP tech instructions

Can someone please?

This tutorial is maybe worth a try...

  • All my desktop icons open under 1 program. How to return to the original way can be opened as part of their own program?

Long story short, all my desktop icons and pretty much everything else opens under the same program.

I deleted the program that went all other programs and now all the desktop icons are left white and they don't know where to go.

I saw several responses to this before, but none of them were really clear. How can I get my programs to open to their original programs?

Could someone please provide a detailed response, I'm pretty new to this. Thank you.

    Hello

It's like as if all your slots target for your shortcut got a little messed up. Here is a list of the simple troubleshooting steps that I suggest.

    • When this problem started to happen
    • Have you made a change to your system, such as installing the software before that happens?
    • Have you tried to delete the shortcut icons and create new ones on the oldest?
    • Have you tried to change the target location manually? -To do so, right click on any shortcut icon of the present Office on your computer, locate your target and see if it takes you directly to your location of program if not, go to your local disk, program files and scroll to the program that you want as a shortcut on your desktop. Then go on the address tab and click once. Copy and paste the address into the location your shortcut properties target.

    Hope this helps,

    Kind regards

    Hi JexterMaxim,

    1. what type of user accounts that you use?
    2. don't you log on as an administrator?
    3. don't you make changes to the agreement of the issue occur?

When you install a program, you will need to select the installation option in particular only to user accounts. Not in user accounts. You can try the following steps.

Desktop shortcuts are stored in one of two places:
    (a) in c:\Users\Public\Desktop. These shortcuts are shared and are visible to the user ever.
    (b) in c:\Users\UserName\Desktop. These shortcuts are not shared and are visible to the user.

When you right click on a shortcut, and then click general, then you can see where this particular shortcut is stored.

To make a shortcut of the group a) visible to yourself, do this method:
    a. drag the shortcut to the side with the right button of the mouse.
    b. Select "copy". You have now two seemingly identical shortcuts.
    c. delete the original shortcut.

  • I started my computer and connected but have lost s icon on my desktop. I cannot close normally except by using the reset button.

I login in safe mode and icons appear.

I also checked device Manager with the warning icon in the network adapters.

    Teredo tunneling adapter 10 error.

I get internet connection in safe mode but not in normal mode.

    I have windows 7.

Little likely that would contribute in safe MODE - probably loads without network at all.  ;-)

You can connect in safe mode, so... Create a NEW USER in safe MODE...

    1. Go to the--> user accounts Control Panel (user accounts and Family Safety--> add or remove user accounts--> create a new account--> account management of--> create a new account.)
    2. Give the user new administrator rights.
    3. Restart the PC and login as the new user.

The new user works in normal mode?

You can now, navigate to the location mentioned before see if (under your user name usual folder\desktop) icons you think Miss exist?
