Foglight monitoring log file
Hi all
We use the IC 5.6.7 cartridge for our monitoring infra goal. We have a requirement for the windows log file monitoring so that we can trigger alerts based on the words and we have not inherited cartridge more.
Can we control logs using IC cartridge or any separate available for monitoring log files?
Please let us know those required as we need.
Kind regards
Guenoun
If it's just normal newspaper followed, you can use the logfilter officer but which does not require a fglam on the computer running target

Monitor log file for Netbackup
Hello
We seek to monitor Netbackup backup errors in Foglight and I was wondering the best way to go about it. In essence the software Netbackup written in a file (C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\logs\backup_failure.log) and I want to draw attention when we get some messages, such as "Impossible" or "unsuccessful save sets. I tried to use the logfilter legacy agent, but this doesn't seem to work or I set up correctly. No matter which help out me? Also, everything what we use, that we will be able to draw the line complete or just be a generic alarm syaing "there is a problem with a nackup of netbackup" kind of thing?
All advice appreciated.
Thank you
Davie
Hey Davie,
The LogFilter legacy agent is probably the best way to control this log file. Here's and example of how to configure the list of game:
For your case, you should be able to enter "Down" and "Unsuccessful save sets" on separate lines in the Match string column, and then matched with the appropriate alarm severities.
The resulting configuration alarms like this:
The alarm message reports the first 255 characters of the corresponding journal line.
After setting up and activation of the LogFilter agent, check the agent log to verify that he was able to find and read the target log file.

All,
I need monitor a single log file. I need to measure growth over time. If she stops to grow for 30 minutes or more, then it should alarm. What would be the best way to handle this?
Thank you
I wrote a custom agent that is currently the following measures:
echo filename. String.ID = $file
the echo of lastaccess: seconds = $LASTACCESS
echo user. StringObservation.Obs = $OWNER
the echo Group. StringObservation.Obs = $GROUP
accessto the echo. StringObservation.Obs = $ACCESS
I also have a project that requires the supervision of a file size.
This custom agent must be updated to support the file size.
I'll definitely have built this until next Friday.
The agent has an entry for a specific file name, so you won't need to reverse engineer all xml files. (It's funny:-D))
If I'm done with it, I'll post to this topic.
Please note, there will be two cartridges. One is for Linux (bash required) and one for Windows (Powershell 2.0 required).
Maybe they are suitable for your monitoring needs.

Questions looking for events from a log file
I have the windows agent installed on some servers to monitor log files and run into problems trying to find specific events. I can see the events under HERE if I do a host name contains the name of the server, but if I then try to filter or search who, following the events specific to find I get no results. Also even when I'm filtered by host name and can view event I want to if I highlight and select "Contains: the data I want" she returned with no results.
Another experience that or I do something wrong?
Okay, after review, it appears that the journal file is in UCS - 2 format. By default, the agent LI uses UTF - 8. The agent also supports UTF-16, which is the most recent version of THE of UCS - 2 (which has been deprecated in 1996). In the filelog liagent.ini you try to add:
charset = UTF16 - THE

URL and monitoring of log files by using Foglight
Hi all
We are using Foglight 5.6.4 and running foglight agent manager 5.6.7 inside.
We try to follow a URL and log files that are hosted on a machine Windows 2012...
Know will support implement our requirements (IE 2012 Windows monitoring)?
Could you share your ideas on this pls...
Thank you best regards &,.

This will be an interesting question.
Article don't not specify how, but there is an interesting question of the platform.
Includes support for windows 2012 Fglam for Foglight 5.6.7
http://eDOCS.quest.com/Foglight/567/doc/core/SystemRequirements/platforms.2.php
But agents being inherited are not a bunch of 2012.
That's what I would have tried (and it is not guaranteed, due to the fact that we don't have a lot of 2012 windows):
I would try the package inherited from windows 2003 because windows 2008 is was not the agent of webmointor by mistake) and see if it works. That follows you suggest to use the package of windows 2003, but again, we have the unknown of the platform is windows 2012
https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?ID=SOL69379&category=solutions&SKB=1
If it is a test environment and you can upgrade to Foglight 5.6.10 you can have a bit of an easier time because we have a NEW monitor of web agent which is not a part of the legacy package (it's also prettier)
http://eDOCS.quest.com/Foglight/5610/files/CartridgeForWebMonitor_5610_ReleaseNotes.html
And then I will complete with the package inherited from Windows 2008 to monitor newspapers, it is not tested yet and don't know if officially supported but I suspect it should work (just remember to do the 'Show packages for all platforms' "when you deploy the package).
Hope this helps.

Then Foglight to monitor a log file specific for the string "error"?
Hello
I was wondering if there is way for Foglight monitor a specific log on a server.
For example, in the path below, we want to be alerted each time that the word ""Error"appears in the"FinancialReporting0.log"
D:\mw\epm\domains\EPMSystem\servers\FinancialReporting0\logs\FinancialReporting0.log
An error in the log file example may look like this:
java.lang.OutofMemoryError:getNewTla
Is this something Foglight is able to do and if so how?
Thank you
Tony
I know for sure a capacity similar Logfilter will become available in the future. You can check with the management on a release date. You can do this by opening a case of pension.

Can someone help me interpret the results of a log cbs.log file?
My laptop worked little strange - gel sometimes and only excessively slow. I ran chkdsk /f checks and / r. Both went well. I then ran sfc/scannow. The results of this analysis are displayed below. I'm not a pc expert, so I don't know if I'm all together or if there is something else, I have to do. Specifically, the last line of the cbs.log file says, "Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All of the files and registry keys listed in the framework of this operation were properly repaired".
Any help would be appreciated! Sorry for the text copy/pasted for a long time. I cut about 99% of the out and about 1% of the folder (due to a limit of 60 000 characters) just left. I couldn't find a way to attach a file.
Thank you!

I want to write in the log FMS of a rule. The following code works from the script console:
println "output from test '.
However when I put this in the rule condition I get no output in the log of the FMS. I do something wrong or isn't it possible? Or is there a better way please let me know.
Thank you
Kris
Yes, it is possible to write in the FMS log within a rule or an expression of varying severity. As long as your logic is called in the rule condition, you should see the output in the FMS log file.

Hello
I have installed:

What can be?
Well, you very probably not a lot of space on the left under/Home.
You can move to another location that is located on/home/oracle/orInventory the / partitioning of the partition where you probably have more space left if you used the default value.
For example, as a root user:
mkdir/U01
MV/home/oracle/oraInventory/U01
Update /etc/oraInst.loc and replace
inventory_loc = / home/oracle/oraInventory
with
inventory_loc = / u01/oraInventory

tfactl analyze the Listener.log file?
Hello
We have the tfactl installed in the release: 12.1.2.1.1.
The tfactl analyzes the listener.log in a CCR environment?
I start a tfactl analyse - search ' / service_update/c "-from 2d-comp all but the tfactl is not a result.
I am sure that he has "service_update" messages in the listener.log file.

Hello
After the documentation review and do a few tests so I found the following:
Check which directories are "monitored" using the command:
tfactl printed directories
Here, you have found also the TNS log files or structure.
If a special directory is not a party, then add the directory with the following command:
tfactl directory add
- public - noexclusions - collectall-node What are the correct options please see the documentation.

Generic Unix 11.1.1.7.0 - blank log file connector
Hello
We installed the generic Unix 11.1.1.7.0 for IOM 11.1.1.5.4 connector. The connector works well, but there is no log occurs in the log file. After doing configurations as described in the document to the activation of logging, the log file is generated, but there is no paper inside message. Even if you try with details of incorrect connection to the target. Exceptions are seen in the server logs, but not in the Connector log file.

Hello
I have an Oracle 10 g installed on Windows 2008 r2. I want to check the alert file to investigate something. But the alert log itself is approximately 1.2 MB, it is very difficult to open with Wordpad and Notepad. If I don't like historical information, can I I just open the alert log file manually delete everything inside and to save it and do this weekly? Or if you have any good suggestion?
the file that is located at:
e:\oracle\database\product\10.2.0\admin\orcl\bdump\alert_orcl.logHello
To do this, since you are on windows, argue some more text editor that can take care of some large files.
Other than that, if you do not want your alert log that would be huge if you want specific entries in the file, just move the old file or rename it before starting your activity you want to monitor. Database server will create a new file for you and which will logically be truncated for you.
Thank you

Analysis &; analyze Log files
Afternoon,
Yet once thank you advance for looking over my post.
Here's what I'm working on this period. I'm working on a screen of messaging that is managed via a scheduled task on the hour, every hour. It is of course in coldfusion.
What I have to do is enter e-mails. The only mention of the status of the e-mail message is in a daily log in the e-mail server. The log file can be between 20 KB to 120 MB. The format of the logfile itself is a little random based on what stage of the E-mail process is on.
The name of the file is saved as sysMMDD.txt and we have a process that runs every 20 minutes to check the size of the log file for the current date. If it is greater than 10 MB we rename it sysMMDD_1.txt it's really irrelevant to my question but I would like to provide all the information of the thought.
Going back to the actual format of the journal format it looks like this:
HH: mm SS:MS TYPE (HASH) [IP ADDRESS] etc.
Type = type of e-mail or service called
Hash = a code of unique hash of the email to connect steps
etc is all the text after the [IP ADDRESS] has no database based on what stage structure.
The monitor needs to catch all send them in this newspaper between one hour file. Don't forget, the newspaper could contain up to a days worth of data. As it is now I am able to do a count of sending it by searching for the number of times "ldeliver" appears in the log.
Anyone have any suggestions for the analysis of a log like this? I fear that the way I do it now, which is a hack, is not enough and there is probably a better way to do it.
Basically, right now I am a cfloop with the index = 'line' through the file. You can imagine how it works with large log files, that's why we created the above scheduled task to rename the log files. Now if I start adding extractions of time as well, I'm sure that this process is going to bust.
I know that this post is dispersed, but it's just one of those days where everything seems to happen at the same time. Someone at - it other ideas to go about this process? Someone said that an ODBC data source in the text file, but will only work when it is delimited by spaces and only the first "four" pieces are reliable format?
Any help is appreciated!
Sorry, Yes. I don't see you mention that another application generates the log.
Looping through the file line-by-line adds not really too much of an overload of the resource. It does not need to load the entire file into RAM, it reads each line in turn. I tried looping through a file of 1 GB on an instance of CF with only 512 MB of RAM allocated to her and she brassèrent away quite a few lines per millisecond, treatment and that he never broke a sweat. It took about 7 minutes to treat 1 million lines and never consumed more than a marginal amount of memory.
Do really know in this way will you gyp? It doesn't look like the kind of process that must be lightning fast: it is a process in the background, is it not?
I suppose if you were involved in this topic, you could file through grep the pump at the level of the filesystem first to extract the lines you want and treat this much smaller file. The file system must process the files of this size quite quickly and effectively.
I don't would not bother to try to put this stuff in a DB and then treat it: it would be probably more work than just a loop on the file that you are now.

Foglight Transaction Log full rule
Hello
I have searched through Foglight and documents, but cannot see a rule that presents its findings on the filling SQL transaction log. We are looking for an alert on the cart SQL that acts almost as a rule of ability on the cart of Windows OS, so that warning can be review - 90% 80%, and Fatal - 98%. Is there a rule that acts on the SQLO cartridge the as this or that should be a custom?
P
Can an added custom similar to the rule of Sybase TransLog:
(#tl_space_used_pct # > = f4registry ("DatabaseSpaceTLUsedWarning")) & (scope.get ("temp_db") == "NO") & (scope.get ("auto_extend") == "NO") & (scope.get ("alert_on") == 'YES')
Hi Paul,.
There are 2 rules for this-
1-dynamic Log File growths remaining (when the log file cannot grow more due to the capacity of the file system)
2 - correction Log File Used - behaves as you describe above, default is 75 and 85% full (it comes to 5.6.2)
Kind regards
Darren
