For black and white images in technical manuals, what format do you prefer?

So, I'm new in this company, and the person who me training uses the EMF format for images on the manuals.

Do you think that a PNG file would be a better option for the illustrations?

> ... 90% of the books are digital (burned on a CD)

Most likely in the form of files PDF, whose users ends then view online or print locally?

>... and 10% are printed in grayscale.

What kind of press?

You probably want the images optimized for online viewing.

In the case of line drawings, this means remain in vector form, so that it evolves successfully and with a weight of race that is optimized for printing convenience and typical resolutions.

In the case of raster art, in other words having a sufficient resolution to maintain retail printers convenience and reasonable zoom.

Vector, to standardize the weight of around 0.2 point race, save in EPS and import the EPS. On versions later than version 7.x chassis, import PDF can be as stable and preserves the vector as a vector. SVG, I have not tested.

For raster contone (grayscale or color), avoid the JPEG in the workflow. It is frozen and introduces artifacts. Never use it for screenshots or scans. Even if your camera image is JPG, convert it to a form uncompressed during edit and post-processing, such as PSD. Our resolution of delivery target for contone is 200 dpi. It's a little more of our press can solve, but offers a bit of zooming for PDF display. Save us the final images in EPS and those of import. TIF is also OK for this application (uncompressed). We will select the compression level when generating PDF.

For bitmaps, even once avoid JPG. Optimize us these for 600 dpi (resolution of our press), save and import them under TIF (EPS is really awkward for bitmap).

EPS is a little awkward to work with to framework, as what you see in the edition is a sticker or an extract (72 dpi), but what makes the PS or PDF is original vector or matrix full. But EPS is fast, rock solid, and (if you need) can preserve original CMYK color in Ps or PDF.

  • Beginner help.  Changing an image of the stock in a pure black and white image without grayscale.

I'm taking a black and white (gray scale) tigerpaw and convert it to a totally black and white image without grey scale.  I imported the image (free, unprotected) and size it.  I used the magic wand to select all areas not black and I want to just convert to white, but I can't seem to understand this.  I'm sure this is a stupid question, but the solution is to escape despite the search. Thanks for any help.

Now that you have selected all of the areas you want to edit white > fill and, in the field of use, choose white. The mixture of Normal mode.

If you wish, you can select > Inverse the selection and edition > fill with black

    Then select > deselect

  • For black and white digital press

    Hi guys,.

I am currently working not expensive Foundation type magazine that images of the Interior will be black and white. The actual printing company has been selected yet (so I can't ask for advice on how to work with them) but it sure it will be digital (not Offsett Press). I would ask that you to have some basic tips on:

    (1) who is supposed to be the minimum dpi and the best format for digital printing? I spoke to one who told me 200 dpi and the file in JPG format is fine. I don't know if that is universal, or just applied concept on this specific printer.

    (2) can I convert images to grayscale or keep them as CMYK but in black and white? I dunno maybe I get more deep rich blacks with CMYK.

    (3) a good tutorial on the web (or on this forum) on the conversion of images in black and white? Long ago, I found a good Photoshop Action with many variants to choose, but I don't find it anymore.

    (4) if he's going to be for the digital press should I work with images differently from the press Offsett. Maybe in digital should I overexposed them or so, I don't know.

Sorry for too many issues, but since I'll prepare lots of images at the same time, I didn't have the free ends.

    Thanks for any info.

    See you soon,.

    SEBS

    (1) not necessarily, you can get some wobbly "shades of grey" appear. The obligation for the draw, it's that the inside of pages only use black, where coverage is all in colour, while they convert in any case so it's cheaper and faster. I guess that's not CMYK in all according to what you said.

    (2) black Rich does best to type, but registration must be accurate or it seems soft. In the press, the misregistrations are ignored; If you have a budget was released, I'm sure that there is no compensation for "run and more.

Finally, depending on the printer, they may require a RGB artwork. Xerox true CMYK Adobe postscript.

  • Change the color to black and white image

I have a gallery of images with thumbnails of colors. Thumbnails are loaded dynamically into the loading component. is there a way to make the thumbnails to display in black and white on turnover without loading a new image for the part b & w? I was wondering if this could be done through alpha or mask?
Please help - you good people out there. I can't find an answer on my own.

  • InDesign is no longer we'll me colorize black in grayscale or black and white images related after update.

I first noticed this problem when I open an old file that I knew that I had previously color and black and white logo with a shade. When I open the file after update, the logo positioned (this is a tiff file, the color space is black and white) was black instead of orange. I know I used to be able to place an image in black and white, double click it and change the shade black to a color, but now after update I can't do. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the program, but I had no chance. Any ideas?

Known issue. Use overprint preview to see the appropriate color.

  • How can I color tones mid in black-and-white images in Premiere Pro CS6?

Hello gurus and Adobeangels around the world
I need some help/advice, I have some images taken with Canon EOS DSLR and it is black and white with the black and white effect
(I tried the channels also, but he ended up images and especially mix very noisy)
now, I would give the video a tone and tried a color mate which works well BUT I would really black and the highlights to stay free of color so that I get a clear white in the highlights.
It's probably easy, or at least I hope right now I just don't have any idea how to get there...

Thank you very much in advance

You could use the three way color corrector, adjust the saturation of the light and shadow to zero and use the midtones to adjust the color.

  • Emulator CVS displays bitmap color black and white images

I use a VBAI2009 inspection on 1454 CVS which uses a camera firewire AVT Guppy F - 036C. This system is on a production machine inspect the product we make. VBAI uses the legacy IMAQ for IEEE 1394 on a CVS not the driver IMAQ-dx cameras. The VBAI script contains several steps function color inspection. To get the AVT camera to display the color, I had to install the files of MAX camera using the Bayer color tab because Bayer settings are not accessible from the driver on the CVS IMAQ. I'm no adjustment of the camera of the VBAI. This configuration works well and has worked for 6 months on the machine of production without any problem.

Now, I need to edit the VBAI script but can't stop the machine to make the changes and test the program. I captured images bitmap using MAX during the inspection was installed 6 months ago and they stored on my host for just such an occasion. I am using these captured images and the CVS emulator in VBAI to make the changes to the program offline. I performed the inspection under the CVS emulator and the acquisition stage is configured to point to the captured bitmap images using the button Configure Simulation settings. The problem I have is that bitmaps are displayed as black & white in the emulator, even if these are images of color seen with paint. I can't find a way to fix this. Is - this problem as a result of using the parameters of Bayer to create the image color or something else in the emulator? The emulator, no installation of color image treats?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Mark

The stages of acquisition camera record video mode information used to acquire images. If you use these steps in emulation mode, it converts the type size and the image to match what has been gained for calibration and processing step use the same type of image. Looks like than the stage thought that the image was mono, even if you got it to be color. I will consider how it could have be saved incorrectly when you use the settings of Bayer. In the short term, you can disable the acquisition stage (don't delete so you do not lose the camera settings saved in step) and use a stage of acquisition of simulation or a new phase in the acquisition of 1394 and won't force the image size/type.

    Hope this helps,

    Brad

  • chain stabilizer creates black and white images

    Hello

I'm trying Adobe products after seeing images of stabilizer Warp. I used the FCP for 12 years.

I imported clips to see how works the stabilization. Two different media, the two turned to black (audio still running).

I recently installed Windows 10 Pro and received a message from Adobe for the software loading there is no Quicktime compatible with Windows 10. I wonder if this is the problem, even though both .mov files have been able to play before the Warp stabilizing effect has been applied.

I googled this a little and I saw no other similar questions.

    Thank you for your time.

A fantastic Adobe customer service representative helped me solve the problem. It turns out that my NVIDIA graphics card doesn't have a CUDA for Windows 10 software update. The representative I was closing the first, delete the files inside my Cache of media and media Cache files folder and then restart programs. I got the error message "this project last used with Mercury Playback Engine acceleration GPU (CUDA), which is not available on this system." Mercury Playback Engine Software only will be used. "However, the effects of stabilizing Warp were now visible. I am very happy and grateful to Mohammad S.

  • Add a black and white image to my image

    Hello

I would like to add a thin black frame, which is in turn framed by a white frame thin, some of my images.  How can I go about creating this effect of double framing of an image that is already cropped and ready to go?  By thin, I just want to be up to about 10 pixels max.

I work in PSE6 with Windows.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thank you

    Sue

Here is a way. -What are you trying to do?

Select the image (select > all, or Ctrl - A).

Add a blank layer and Edit > stroke. In the outline dialog box, enter the width & color and location inside.

In my example, I first added layer 1 and made a black line of 20 px.

Add another layer of vacuum and a white line with a smaller width. I used 10 px.

Should really add layers of white; You can race directly on the background layer, but adding layers, you can delete them and start over if you don't like the result.

  • Could not watch television and the images are black and white on Qosmio

    Hi, live Saudi Arabia
I have problem with my TV Tuner. When I scan the channel it is find frequency for some channels, but cannot look at them!

also when I try to capture using model-SVIDEO color balck & white that I try to use PAL nothing changed
    And thanks for the help

    Hello

One question; Did you purchse the notebook in your country?

I guess that the black and white image appears on the TV. Am I wrong?
This can happen if the TV doesn t s-video or if the s-video option is not enabled on the TV.

In addition, I would recommend to check the version of the driver installed tuner.
Then go to the page of the Toshiba driver and check the version of the tuner driver.
If the new driver is available, so please download and install on the Qosmio.

  • calculate pixel intensity in an image in black and white

    Hi all

First of all, im new to labview. Now, this question may have been asked before, but I'm not quite sure. OK, so I have an avi video that can be allocated by 50 images. I used imaq threshold and a loop for to put a threshold in each image, which makes them black and white. What I want to do is to calculate the percentage of area which is highlightened as white. I thought that I can do by calculating the total number of pixels that have an intensity of 1. I know the black pixels are 0 intensity and I also know the total number of pixels in each image. I tried to use the function to quantify but I couldn't get the desired effect. Then, I tried to use imaq light meter, but still I could not the exact number of pixels with an intensity of 1, only the mean value and the standard deviation of the pixel. I can probably calculate the area that is intense using these two values (mean, st.dev) and simple statistics, I think, but I need more detailed results. Is there a way to get the total number of pixels with intensity of 1 in a black and white setting? Sorry if this question has been asked before, I could not find that a related. Sorry for my bad English as well. Waiting for your answers.

    Thank you very much.

The problemwith gregoryj code is that it converts to a table of Boolean number, not a number, the value of this number depends strongly the position of values in the table that are True.

Once you have the array of pixels in the black and white image (all the values 1 or 0), just use Array Sum to get the number of 1.

  • Photosmart HP 6520 - print in color, not black and white

I have had this printer for some time and configure options so that it used only the black cartridge unless I put it specifically to do otherwise when I wanted to color.  It worked well and I could switch between black and white and color very easily.  A few weeks ago, the printer started to ignore the options I would set and printed in color.  I double checked the parameters, and the printer is always set up for black and white, but now it completely ignores and still print in color.

I tried the settings at the time of printing, and that indicates that the image in black and white, it still prints in color.

I haven't added any software or made any changes to my pc.

Can someone help me with this, please?

Hi Lulu and thank you for the reply!

I suggest to download and run the HP print and Scan doctor.  Once you have run the tool successfully, try again the configuration in black and white.

Please let me know the results.

  • Why my PRO - 100 black-and-white prints have a color tint?

I print out on the printer PIXMA Pro-100 and sometimes, for no apparent reason (?), my black and white prints have a color tint (generally a "reddish brown"), then when printing to new... same settings print, same... the same impression will be fine, neutral with no tint at all.

    No idea why?

Also (perhaps related?) I do not understand why Photo-Cyan and Magenta cartridges are exhausted when I'm NOT print color, but only black and white.  Am I missing something?  When you set up for printing, I always make sure that the 'Black and white photography' feature is selected in settings dialog "Quick Installation".  This ensures not only the black and gray inks are used as long as I'm not "toning"?  In other words... ONLY black and gray inks are used, if not the impression that is supposed to be a black and white printing neutral? Yet once... I missed something?

    FOR INFO:

I print on Canon Pro radiance papers and more glossy.

Under 'Options - color management', I selected:

(color management) Photoshop Elements handles colors

    (image area) Adobe RGB (1998)

(the printer profile) Canon PRO-100 1/2 Luster Photo Paper Pro

    (rendering mode) Perceptual

The most important thing is the paper you choose to print on.  Find this first release. Any Epson printer which uses UltraChrome K3 inks will do a better job with B & W as a Pro-(anything).  But Epson suffers from obstruction more far do, Canon Pro-100 problems.

If you print a lot is not too big of a problem, but if you print once a week or once a month to forget it.  Go with Canon that clogged very rarely, if ever.

Try to find the right paper.  It will make everything better.  Call the Red River or Canson and ask them to recommend a book.  Red River will work with you and they know the Pro - 100 inside and outside.

  • HP Officejet 6500 a Plus. How to get a fax received to print in black and white and not the other way around

I'm using an iMac with OS X 10.6.8.  A fax sent to me is loaded into a folder open on my desktop.  The fax image is white on black al, though the original was black on white paper.  It prints white on black background.  How to reverse the image to black on white?

Ok. Well I don't believe that you are able to reverse the colors directly on the printer. Once the image has been saved using this color format, you will need to reverse the image on the computer first, then the corrected file printer.

You can invert the colors using the preview. Once you open the image in preview if you select "Tools" then "Color Adjust". Here you will be presented with slidered for black and white levels. To "reverse" all colors, you need to do is the slider level black all the way to the right, then drag the white slider completely to the left.

Let me know if it works for you!

  • When I try to print in black and white, my picture is flooded with blue ink

Hello! I made sure that all print settings were correct. I did a cleanup of the heads and made sure that the inks were all full. I put six by four inches of the printer and used hp advanced photo paper. I put the gray-scale printing, as there is no settings for black and white.

When the picture came through, he started to gray scale and further to the bottom of the image has been flooded with blue ink. I have an all in one printer fax C309 series. can someone help me please?

It seems that the print head may have a problem. Lets go to the printing preferences for the printer (these can already be defined this way if yes let us know). In this window on the left column of the impression of the shortcuts can choose Fast/economic and set printing in grayscale on the right of "Black ink" only If your setting has been set to high quality try again to print. If you were already set to "Black ink" only under the grayscale option the printer may require repair.
