The audit is 14 days, check-in for 2 days and Junkbox is fifteen days.

Actually, you could add a day each because cleaning routines run to midnight and today's data do not count on these charges.

  • E-mail Security: 'Open' versus ' properties > details > Source of the Message'

I receive e-mail as 'text only' and I have junk/malware filters of my e-mail service as well as filter for Windows Mail and Security Essentials but it sill of some messages that I have to think before opening/removal.

The audit of these suspicious emails I often use properties > details > Source to have a look at the content of the Message.
Is it really any more sure that simply open the email?

    Concerning
    Tom

In my humble OPINION, you're being a bit paranoid. The days where everything just to open an email and have a virus or other malware infecting your machine are almost completed. There is always the possibility of infection when opening attachments or clicking on a link, of course. Web - bots to check that an address is real are still possible, but you won't see that in plain text, and I think that spammers almost gave up on it because they don't care whether the spam goes to a real address. It's just extra work.

With respect to the verification of the source of the message, I guess we sleep, but it is also indicative of the source code if there is an attachment. I've been in the forums of e-mail since 2003 and back that up now, I don't remember anyone ever mentioning be infected simply by opening an e-mail.

There are a few programs that will allow you to view your messages without opening them, but you'll have to Google that all the specific names escape me at the moment.

You are much more likely to catch a Trojan horse or any other type of Malware, simply by using the Internet. If you do not have these programs in your arsenal, I highly recommend them.

Download the free versions of these programs.

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    http://Malwarebytes.org/

    SpywareBlaster
    http://download.CNET.com/SpywareBlaster/3000-8022_4-10196637.html

Malwarebytes is the most important. The free version is not a real time protection, but if you get one of these Trojan horses masking as a Virus Scan that starts the download of the program and cannot be stopped, it will almost certainly remove it with a complete analysis. I run once a week just for kicks.

  • Security updates have blocked incoming messages in Windows Mail - security popup does not accept the password, error number: 0x800CCC92

Original title: updates blocked mail in Windows Mail - security popup does not accept the password

Hello - three updates installed security today (KB2691442, 2718523, 2596744).

Now Windows mail will no longer accept mail entering into my pop3 account.  Security pop - up demand for a/c of the user and the password - I've checked tools > accounts > properties, reset the password, but it does not accept pop-up.  Here is the error message:

.... POP3, server response: '-ERR [AUTH] username and password not accepted.', Port: 995, secure (SSL): Yes, Server error: 0x800CCC90, error number: 0x800CCC92

    Help please! John

Message of ERROR IS: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', server: 'pop.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, server response: '-ERR [AUTH] Invalid login/password pair', Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Server error: 0x800CCC90, error number: 0x800CCC92

Very often, it is due to an intermittent server problem and not a problem with your computer.  You should contact the provider of messaging and see there are problems.  See also if you can connect via webmail and if it works.  If so, then try to set up a second copy of your account and see if it works.  Also beware of interference antivirus: see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 and it can help to compact and repair the database of WinMail (see www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/)

  • Windows Mail Security Popup

Suddenly, I get a Windows Security popup asking username and password everytime I try to send or receive e-mail in Windows Mail.  This information is in the account profile, the block remember password is checked, and there has never been a problem before.  I provide the security popup and check the block do not forget to send or receive.  I am then able to send or receive OK right now, but I get the popup again when I try to send or receive again.  Had a recent update that created this problem?  How do I return to normal email without the irritating popup every time?

    Hello JCSTE,

Thank you for your response back!

I would first try to test this by creating a new user account with Windows Mail and see if you duplicate the question during the sending/receiving mail.  If you do not have the same problem, then it could possibly be a corrupted account.  In most of the scenerios where I see what is happening to the user will create a new user account and then delete the previous class.

With assistance from the system restore, this might or might not solve the problem, especially if the account is corrupted.  But since this is a recent problem and I hope that you have not added new software or programs in the last few days so you don't lose anything.  Please let us know status.  Thanks again! • SUDDEN question MS Windows Mail Security. I don't know how many years counts with Bellsouth / AT & T.

Cannot Log on to ATT email account. Keeks pop-up Windows security request my username and password.  Using my correct email address and the right password in the pop-up window will allow only connect to ATT once in every 30 to 50 attempts.  The error message in the task of Windows Mail window is the following:

Account: 'name', server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3, server response: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user/password (error 999)', Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Server error: 0x800CCC90, error number: 0x800CCC92

AT & T blaims software Windows Mail bug because I can log - on to their service of webmail with no problems.  I have two 'alias' hung on the main email account, but they are not affected by this problem.  I can still access these messages through Windows Mail.

Search for program 3rd party interference.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 try to remove the att account and then close WinMail.  Then compact and repair the database by using my Windows Mail utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/). Then go back to WinMail and add your account att back once again and make sure you get the user name and password the first time (if you haven't, then it does not stick).  See if that fixes things.  It could also be the ATT servers are somewhat sporadic, but if the web interface for the account works fine, then WinMail should work too.

  • E-mail security

I am running Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on my computer. I used hotmail until three weeks ago. At that time there my contact list has been used to send emails with my name. At this point, I could not access the list that it was deleted.   I have Mcaffee and windows defender, neither of which prevented this from happening. Now, after the advice of Microsoft, I use Windows Live Mail and I also installed Adware of Lavasoft to monitor internet activity. Still a few days earlier, the fake email is sent again to names in my new contact list so that SME names I don't recognize. Is there a way to prevent this? Otherwise I can completely drop Microsoft Email and find another way to send my mail. I am now using Internet explore 8 beta for Vista.

    Hello RChalikonda!

I understand your frustration; conclusion that your email has been compromised is certainly troubling and frustrating.

While I can't say with certainty thanks to a web forum, I have the feeling that you might be the victim of what is called a "phishing" attack This type of attack is exceptionally developed. Bypass Windows Defender and Mcafee phishing attacks, because they rely on human deception rather than software. McAfee and Windows Defender scan software that sits on (or try to) your PC.

However, phishing attacks appear to be harmless emails that makes a request of you. In all cases, a phishing attack e-mail appears to be from a company serious like Hotmail, Ebay, Paypal, etc... and all the emails phishing attack will share a common theme related to the problems you must identify yourself in them and correct. Mails will then ask you to use a Web link included to take you to the site of the company, then you can connect and fix the problem... and that's where the problems begin.

What happens if you click on the included URL, you will be redirected to a website that looks like Hotmail, it's really is a site made to look like hotmail... After you open a session and make some changes, we'll tell you the problem is solved and that's all.

But the real intention of this phishing email is to collect the login ID and passwords of unsuspecting victims.

The best way to solve this problem, is to change your password for your e-mail account.

This scenario seems familiar? Is it possible that you received an email that looked like, from MSN or Hotmail or Windows Live?

If this doesn't look like a viable option, let me know...

As an option, access hotmail through Microsoft Outlook?

    Thank you
    Bob

  • E-mail security. Attachment scanning of content filter

Hi, is there a document where you could see what type of files can Email Security appliance look for a string? I would like to create an outgoing content filter that looks like "inside" the attachment of a string. I think that you can do in office and PDF documents but I'm not completely sure and also I do not know in what other types of files, you can search.

The final step should be to find a string, 'Confidential' for example and if the mail is not encrypted drop. If there are 'confidential', string email should be encrypted, and this word might be inside the Word document.

    Is first possible?

    Thanks in advance

    Samuel

There are almost 400 + file types that ESA can recognize and analyze. It is possible to find these strings in Office and PDF documents you have requested among other things.

When you have found the string, you can take a number of actions as quarantine, encrypt, drop, etc. If you want an analysis above consider using the integration of RSA Data Loss Prevention in the DRY for detection more precise.
