Free space affect performance?

I noticed on databases (work and test) I have the same indexes built on the tables, I'd like to, but the duration of the stored procedure for the race is very different: the test is very very slow to run. Because by querying the USER_FREE_SPACE table, I see that the test of free space is very low, is - this may be a possible explanation for my problem? For example on some queries of the stored procedure plan will contact told me that some indices are not used on db test even though their own statistics and index are the same db work.
Thank you!

Free space can make a difference. But generally not for selects them.

For example on some queries of the stored procedure plan will contact told me that some indices are not used on db test even though their own statistics and index are the same db work.

Now, IT will make a difference. If the index is not used, but should be used, then the query will be slow. My hypothesis is that the TABLE or COLUMN statistics are not up do date. The index statistics itself will not make much difference. but the selectivity of column statistics will decide whether or not the index is used by the CBO.

    Hello Sunsoaked,

Thank you for your message.  The best thing you can do at this stage is to begin to copy the data from your hard drive on your external hard drive.  You mentioned that you have a lot of photos and music.  These are two of the easiest to transfer items.  To do this, copy your complete record of the music and the image on the hard drive.  After you be sure that all your data has been copied, you can then delete the music and images of the hard drive which is full.  This should dissipate enough disk space for you to perform a defrag, etc.  Remember that when you delete these items, you will also have to empty the trash free up disk space.
Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.

  • How free space on the partition system reserved when the usual FSUTIL USN DELETEJOURNAL command does not work?

When you try to make the system images, I found that the system reserved (100 MB) partition can be a problem if it has less than 50 MB of free space.  In my case it was after execution of FSUTIL USN DELETEJOURNAL/d/n and 34 MB free disk space is only 40 MB.  I also tried without the flag/n.

I had just restored the system from an image so I felt comfortable to make new changes.  I deleted the fonts and directories of different language from the startup directory (the directory of fonts took about 10 MB).

I see a file name {hex 64 bit I think} in the System Volume Information directory, which was 32MB in size.  I tried to remove it but no luck.

After you remove the fonts, and the other languages, I had a lot of free space to perform the system image.  I'm not comfortable actually using this image, go ahead yet, but I'm looking for someone who might know what is and isn't OK to do with this partition.  I would have done it 150 MB when I installed everything first if I had an idea I was going to suffer like that on a meager 18 MB.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It's my understanding you are needing help with upgrading to Sierra, as the Mac App Store gives more the possibility to download. I want to assure you that you can upgrade and enjoy Sierra successfully.

If you quit the Installer do not click on continue, you can open it later in your Applications, Launchpad or Spotlight folder. Looking for a file named Install macOS Sierra. During the installation, your Mac may restart several times. It performs then a few initial configuration in the background tasks. Check if available hard disk space is available as recommended for the game.
The disk cleanup tool lets you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that you can safely remove. You can choose to delete some or all of the files.

    Generally no.

How many memory currently have installed? How did you buy?
Did you buy exactly the same type, brand, model, etc. ?

Why do you want more memory? Depending on how much you have now, and
What applications you are running, it may or may not do anything for you. More memory
is this not better for everyone. This is my standard message on this
    Object:

The amount of RAM you need to good performance is * not * a
unique situation for all. You get good performance if the amount of
RAM you have prevents you from using the file page in a meaningful way, and
It depends on what applications you are running. Most of the people a typical range running
Enterprise XP applications find that somewhere around 512 MB
works well, others need more. Almost everyone will see poor performance
with less than 256 MB. Some people, especially those who do things
as modification of large photographic images, can see an improvement in performance by
adding even more 512 MB - sometimes much more.

If you currently use the page file significantly, more memory
will reduce or eliminate the use and improve your performance.
If you do not use the pagefile significantly, it will make more memory
    nothing for you. Reach
WinXP - 2K_Pagefile.zip and monitor your use of the page file. Who should
give you a good idea of more memory can help and if so, how
    lots more.

    > I went to Disk Defragmenter, and he always says that I have 35% of free space.  The new memory will change this amount?  Or is it important?

You have 35% of your hard drive free. It's disk space, also called
storage. It is not memory, what is RAM. Adding memory will not make
any changes to the available disk space.

  • Run Disk Defragmenter has released more than 30 GB of free space!

I'm not used to run Disk Defragmenter Windows very often, but in recent weeks I have been through the very large import of my cd collection process on iTunes. My 'C' drive has a capacity of 222GB and I was at 9.68 GB of free space. I ran WDD but after 18 hours, he had still not finished! So I decided to cancel defragmentation, and after checking my 'C' drive, I found to my great astonishment that I now had 42.8 GB of free space! Then, I downloaded the DiskDefrag Auslogics free and running. She performed in a few minutes and showed the Windows defragmentation had done most of the work but for some reason any had not finished. Anyone know why?

I have decided to disabled Windows Defrag and will use in the future, the Auslogics version he gives information about the status of the defragmentation and seems to be much more effective and faster.

However, I am very surprised by the amount of free space that freed the defragmentation process. I searched on various forums of pc and other posters have said the complete opposite to my own experience. The common consensus seems to be that defraging reduces the amount of free space on a drive rather than increase it!

There also seems to be a difference of opinion on the amount of free space should be left on a hard drive to allow the computer to function effectively. I was a little more than 4% before I defragmented but I saw messages advising that we should let betweeen 10% and up to 50% (which seems to me to be silly!)

I would be grateful for any help anyone can give me, in particular, why the defragmentation released (in my case) as much free space.

A common mistake in logic. You assume that two things are related, because they are close in time.

Defrag does not change the amount of disk space. It only increases or decreases the free space or used.

Windows defragmentation runs every three days and optimizes the program and load the system boot. This is not controllable. It is also not a defragmentation of data file.

Using another Defragmenter will fight with Windows.

NTFS (and FAT32) resist fragmentation. Most fragmented files are log files and will fragment 1 second after defragmentation.

Windows only writes files where there are a lot of space to write prevention of fragmentation. Do not fragment the files that do not change. Disk cache makes the fragmentation irrelevent.

Any recommendation on the free space are based on the best estimate on the way an average person uses a computer. Lack of free space does not work computer until it has zero. However, most people like to save their work and some Windows watchdog is going spastic, just before that you can't do anything.

As to why you have noticed a change in the use of the disc.

    1. system restore - this could be it.

2 disk Cleanup - it will take place in itself is space is extremely low

3 log files are created, deleted, written, etc.

    4. Windows automatically repairs physical disk errors. If defrag was having problems, you can check there is no car repair files.

It's a way see what may have disk operations occurred.

Start - All Programs - Accessories - right on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy and paste by clicking in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

  • Recovery of free space Compellent

Hi guys, I installed a new Dell SCv2020 Compellent storage with vSphere U3b 5.5 for an existing customer

I have a deep knowledge of Dell PowerVault storage, but I'm new with Dell Compellent. I read that the snapshots for backups or running Storage vMotion can affect free space on the end due to the native LUN provisioning storage: communities.vmware.com/.../436628; TSTART = 0

The suggestion is run or plan the command "esxcli storage vmfs unmap-l MyDatastore" which calls the primitive SCSI UNMAP manually

I tested a Storage vMotion and indeed space on the source LUN are assigned until this only manually 'no '. I have not yet tested how instant backup affect free space on the storage because I've not yet migrated any VM on the new infrastructure (by the way I use v8 of Veeam Backup who insist a lot about VMware snapshots)

Anyone here can share ideas and comments? Thanks a lot guys

    Marco

You are on point, use the tool unmap to reclaim space on the LUN. Compellent thin provisions at the end back and depending on your environment, you should probably be thin provisioning your LUN on the end of VMware. To the wire when you remove VMware servers and vmotion of data store to data store space, will not be recovered on Compellent b/c, that storage is ignorant because data are only is more used. The "fix" for what there is complete integration between VMware and Dell is to run that unmap tool.

What started doing every quarter or so is to run the tool unmap on all LUNS that are thin and put into service (in our environment all volumes). I tested unmap several times and I had no problems with running the tool while the servers are running on this volume. I would say that the tool running on a server that does not have a lot of load work because the CPU spike during unmap (datastore readings will boost as well).

Regarding backups and snapshots, I have no problems with the space about those. Replays freeze blocks of reference data, but once this review has expired the space is recovered. Regarding backups depends on what you use for backups - we use CommVault who will take a glance of the LUN, copy the data off power then release the tension (so for a short period of time, he didn't there ate during the backup space, but it takes a few minutes to copy the data).

IM using windows 7 ultimate sp1 with 100 GB hard drive (no partitions) 2 GB ram and 2.3 ghz cpu

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand from the description of the problem, that after deleting a few files of the computer, the hardware space shows 20.9 GB despite 31 GB in Windows 7 computer.

I understand this must be frustrating, but don't worry, we're here to help and guide you in the right direction.

I suggest you try these methods and check if it helps.

Try logging in SafeMode with network and check if the problem persists. If the problem is resolved, perform the scan anti-virus in SafeMode with network.

    Method 1

    Step 1

Start your computer in safe mode with networking.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Note: When, at the forefront of startup options select safe mode with network.

    Step 2

I suggest you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 2

Reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use disk cleanup. It removes temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

    It will be useful.

Let us know if you encounter problems with Windows in the future. We will be happy to help you.

  • User folder devours free space HDD

I have a 64 GB SSD, which slows the decline of available hard disk space.  I only use about 1/2 the ability, but I am now at 3 GB of space left.  I noticed this a few weeks ago, but the available space was far greater then.  If the problem has progressed to this point run out of free space.

Using the Windows Explorer file manager, I find that my folder 'User' takes now 33.3 GB of space. The user has two folders (user_me and public). Are most of these Go to user_me.  But the data files in this folder are not occupying about 2 GB.

The amount of user data should I expect to see being taken up by Windows, and I can solve this to something more practical?

    Thank you

cCleaner?  No thanks.  I stick with Windows Disk Cleanup.

Well, my problem was solved by removing the "temporary Internet files" in in IE8 (using the general tab of the Internet Tools-Options menu).

I also found in IE8, Internet Options, Advanced tab, a configuration affecting empty folder "temporary Internet files" when the browser is closed.  Allowing that should keep the record more permanently growing more later too.

  • How much free space should I leave on a DATA partition?

I can find discussions about why we should give adequate free space on a Windows 7 OS partition, but I can't find anything about the question to know if performance suffers if a partition used strictly for the * data * is too full.  For example, Windows 7 has a requirement to free space for Defrag to work properly?  If so, what is it?  I know that for XP defrag wouldn't even run with less than 15% free space in partition, but I don't see anything on such a restriction in 7.  And are there other aspects?  Thank you.  (Wasn't sure to put this question in "Performance and Maintenance" or "files and folders," so I chose the first.)

AFAIK, the hard disk Windows fault detection mechanism, where the CHKDSK command is a part (the big cannon), which allows to cope with errors in small scale more or less on the fly. If the problem worsens, CHKDSK is called, and Windows stops and restarts to give a best shot at fixing the issue without distractions of CHKDSK.

If you're lucky, CHKDSK will report the broken clusters as death, moving away from the dead zone data, and Windows will continue as usual. If the disk is full to the top, none of the foregoing can or will happen, there is no room for errors of any kind.

So, let us free space on the disk... A data reader may not get the rigorous use that gets the C drive, but it's always a dynamic environment where files are read and re-writings on demand.

Some bad clusters on a disk is no big deal, and the player works pretty well. The trouble begins seriously when the grapes begin to fail on a regular basis, and you will get WARNING that because Windows will appear to hang during playback of files. If you ignore this warning, CHKDSK will be finally called whenever the computer is started.

So, no, you do not rush out and buy a new hard drive, all simply because a few bad clusters have been detected.

Large free space reduces the loss of data? Just as much as Windows has a fairly reliable place to re - write files that had been a real struggle read less of good grapes. In this way, it also buys you time to do regular backups until you can plan to replace the drive

Even if the 15% limit has been removed from the Defragmenter, you must always leave at least 15% free especially if you store large file sizes, but it is only a recommendation, not a hard and fast rule. Personally, I think it was a mistake to remove the limit that it just encourages computer users to fill the readers to the absolute ability to believe that everything will be fine.
