Freezing of Windows 7 Home Premium Media Center

Hello

I had this problem for a few weeks now.  Recently, it seems that a lot of software no longer works correctly, and I don't know what is the source of the problem, but a glaring problem is when I boot up, the Media Center gadgets Google desktop (my only gadget) does not load correctly.  It displays the small circle of 'work', then that freezes.  If I click on it, I can still use the machine for other things.  If I click it, it freezes completely to the point where I can't start Task Manager, and I find myself having to shut down with the power button.  Also, if I open the Media Center Start menu, it will open, but if I click on anything in the program, it will hang to the point where I have to stop with the power button.  No BSOD, it just hangs.

This is not a very new machine, and installing Windows 7 was maybe a year ago.  It's a desktop HP, has 4 GB of RAM.

Here is a link to a text file system info that I just exported.  Do not know if it would be of any help:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wjb2cy9jcxi2ise/Systeminfo.txt

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide!

Keith

I should have followed my instincts - I suspected from the beginning that when Windows couldn't seem if open that drive that something was wrong with her.  Windows Media Center used this player as default save location, and that she had serious problems as well.

It turns out that all this time, it was a faulty drive.  The first result of the test of WD Data Lifeguard was completely wrong, but I'm sure that the reader only acted a little.  The problem with the player progresses where Windows would not load completely.  Once Finally, I go back to the original and disconnected the drive, Windows were pulled up so fast, it makes the head spin.

I suggest to anyone who has similar problems with WMC or peformace/freezing slow and ESPECIALLY if Windows cannot completely open a disc, you disconnect the drive (assuming you have that option) and see what's happening with your system.  In hindsight, that seems like a no-brainer.

While I appreciate the help from Microsoft support, this shows how it is important to pay attention and understand the symptoms of a problem, not only start to run all the tests under the Sun just because they are there.  Quick analysis of the WD software was certainly mislead, but the symptoms with that in car have been something that really necessary in the comprehensive study, and stick to the question I started with could have kept this process up to a few days rather than a few weeks.

  • DVD won't play in Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium Media Center.

    I tried many DVDs in my Windows 7, 64-bit Home Premium system, and none of them will play in the Media Center, with the exception of a 1955 film that plays without problem. I guess it was a good year. In the lower right corner of the Media Center, a window says: "Play DVD - Windows Media Center cannot detect a video DVD in the DVD - Rom drive. Insert a video DVD in the drive." Apparently, the DVD is not detected. What is a missing codec problem? I read about downloading the Codec of the user, only to cause more problems, and I did a lot of searching for an answer to this and found a countless number of users having problems with DVD in Media Center and no collective solution. How can it be this difficult? What is the problem with Windows 7? Why can I play a DVD of a film of 1955 (Mr. Roberts) and not of today's movies? The only solution that I come up with to this day, even after checking with the maufacturer of my optical drive, should consider buying the codec itself, if that is what is lacking, or a DVD player to possibly of Roxio. But after the piece of hugh of money I paid for my software Windows 7, I would not have bought anything others of another company. I wouldn't think to go back to XP, but I've had far fewer problems. Any help would be appreciated. Don

    Hi Mary - thank you very much for your answer. My PC is a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer. I just got the phone is turned off after a few hours of troubleshooting with Dell hardware and software services. Dell is sending a technician to replace my optical drive. They hope that clears the problem, but if not, they say that I might have to reinstall Windows 7. This is happening due to your pointing me in the right direction with your post, and troubleshooting I could do before, I called Dell. I had different problems for a while, and maybe they'll finally get fixed. Thanks again, Don Don

  • Freezing of Windows vista Home premium

    I have a Sony Vaio, which is only a year old and it became almost impossible to use.  It started with a random freeze when the computer sleep and it was only about 4 to 5 months after I got it.  From there, he progressed to gel after about 20 minutes of use, regardless of what I was doing.  From there on, windows wouldn't even start up, he sat on the progress bar and I could not connect.  A sony analyst told me through to restore all default settings.  I also ran a diagnostic equipment to check if any of this was a problem and he returned nothing wrong.  From there I put mozilla firefox on my computer and also downloaded i-tunes and vista then began randomly freezing again once.  Even in the middle of a windows update it freezes, I can't do anyhting with her.  I am a student, and almost all of my work is done on a computer.  I can't afford for Windows Vista to do this.  I decided to put XP on it, but I want to see if anyone has a suggestion that can solve this problem.  I'd appreciate very much all the advice.  Thank you

    Hello displays unknown.

    Thank you for posting.  Your computer freezes or it gives you the Blue error screen?  If it freezes, then it is quite possible that you might have a problem with your ram. You can also check for possible malware by following the link below to make an online scan.

    I also suggest that you are looking for the latest updates for your software and drivers for your devices.  Please do not use the Device Manager to update the drivers, but go to the support site for the manufacturer to check the updates.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11, Acer can be Alt + F10 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
    OEM license is linked to the original version of the motherboard, it is M2N68 - LA. You lose OEM 'rights' when you have changed the Council.
    You can go in Panel, programs and features and functionality in Windows
    on and outside. I think you have to turn off the Media Center and Windows
    Media Player. As indicated, you will not be able to remove the bits that are
    part of the operating system.
  • Cannot re - install Windows Media Player on Windows 7 Home Premium after I uninstalled it.
    I bought my new system with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition/64-bit internet. I went on a site and tried to play videos (type video.asx) and I got this missing codec error message. So I researched and downloaded codecs and stuff packs. Still did not work. Well, I knew that the videos played on my other Xp System, which uses a different media player, so I removed the center of my Windows 7 Media Player hoping to install an older player that works. I discovered that it won't work. So now I was trying to re - install Center of media player for my Win7HomePremium and I cannot get installed it. I guess that these 2 downloads I found were are only for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN editions.
    Do you know what I have to do?
    Thanksk
  • Windows 7 Home Premium random freezes
    So, I had this problem for quite a while now.
    I tried to start troubleshooting tool Windows, all the other points that have been proposed on the forums.
    No help.
    My computer keeps randomly freezes, sounds a bit weird and duplicates.
    My memory is good, everything is good.
    I don't know if it's my card motherboard and CPU.
    I have a Dell XPS 8300, and I believe that it is related to windows.
    My drivers are up to date. I also have enough memory.
    I don't think it's a virus or a game, but it could be. It's really irritating while I'm doing my games. If someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Hello
    Please provide the dump files.
    After analyzing dump files, we have reached the following conclusions.
    This problem may occur because of problems with the graphics card drivers or problems with memory.
    I suggest to uninstall and reinstall your graphics card driver and check. Here are the steps:
    • Press the Windows key + R.
    • Type devmgmt.msc.
    • Expand the display card adapter.
    • Right-click on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 driver and select Uninstall.
    Now, go to the website of NVIDIA GeForce and try to install the latest version of the drivers and check. Here is the link for NVIDIA GeForce: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760
    You can also run the disk check. Follow these steps:
    • Click on start.
    • Type cmd into the search bar.
    • Right click on cmd and select run as administrator.
    • Chkdsk/f/r
    • Press enter.
    Important: when running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.
    In addition, run memory diagnostic test. Consult the following link:
    Why Sync Center exists in Windows 7 premium (in Control Panel), and it opens but died, when I can't seem to set up offline files?
    Why help tell me how to work with the files offline, but only manages not to tell me there was apparently no premium?
    Therefore, since the documentation leads to expect it is there and that it will work, HOW can I obtain a permit?
    Thank you
    I'm sorry, but Windows 7 Home Premium is not files offline , which is available in Professional and Ultimate.  As you say, Help and Support and Sync Center mean that it is available.
    I had been Active Sync with my Palm Treo.  I bought a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. So I downloaded and tried to install drvupdate - amd64.exe, the 64-bit version of Windows Mobile Device Center for my AMD Athlon II X 2 2.7 GHz e-machine.  By running the installation program, it seems to make progress and then in the Middle, it seems reverse-the remaining time runs backward, and the installation Bar starts going right to left rather then from left to right.  I get no explanation, no code error and no results.  Windows Mobile Device Center is not in my list of installed programs.  I don't think to close my anti-virus programs.  How can I install Windows Mobile Device Center 64?
    Thank you.  Before I had this message, I got the WMDC installed by stopping antivirus, Carbonite and uninsralling law service programs!  I am not sure that I had to do the latter, but I thought that the law!
