From ESX 3.5 to Windows 2003 VM Workstation 10

I copied a windows 2003 vm from esx 3.5 and want to run under 10 workstation.

The problems seem to be: 1. He starts but not the mouse, etc. 2. try to restart and it will not stop. 3. try to upgrade of the tools, and it does not restart. 4 get error on buslogic scsi problem

5. If the power off, then NTLDR is missing when restart it.

Would appreciate some advice on how best to move the windows 2003 VM from ESX 3.5 to 10 Workstation

Regards, Mark

Hello and welcome to the communities.

How did you move it, or what was the process? You might want to try VMware Converter, if you do not.

  • Problem connecting to the ESX Server in the Windows domain controller workstation

    Nice day

I'm trying to set up a lab for the test server ESX 4 on VMware Workstation 7.1.1 running in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

    Basic configuration is such;

Windows 2008 R2 AD domain controller

    IP: 192.168.9.103

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

    ESX1 host

    IP: 192.168.9.109

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

Both are configured with Bridged networking in my computer. I can ping the system Windows 2008 in my Ubuntu system, but cannot ping the ESX 4 server.  I can ping the DG of the Windows 2008 system, but cannot ping the DG of ESX4 system. I ping the ESX4 server by IP address and name for itself. I added a DNS entry in Windows 2008 for the server, ESX4. I can't ping the Windows Server 2008 of ESX4 host.

There is an entry in/etc/hosts on the ESX host to IP address and the name of the ESX host. If I look at/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-vwif0 I see doing a show at the 192.168.9.255, IPADDR 192.168.9.109 in sysconfig there is an entry for the ESX host name thats right, pointing to the front door of 192.168.9.1 using GATEWAYDEV = vswif0, n - route shows 192.168.9.1 as the UG.

All tests seem to indicate a problem with the default gateway that is used to communicate between these 2 VM.

If someone could please provide suggestions as to where I could look, I would appreciate it.

    Kind regards

    powderskier

AFAIK, you must enable Supreme mode for the virtual ESX using Linux as a host.

  • Moving from ESX 3.5 to ESX 4

If I have a server ESX 3.5 hosting windows 2003 32-bit servers, is it possible to use something like vRanger connection or Veeam to move this 32-bit server on a host ESX 4 64 and some run as if they were on it original host? Trying to set up redundant servers, I felt I could move my 32 on the 64 - but certainly not the other way around. Also if it is a temproary thing (as I'm waiting for the 32-bit hardware redress), move them back without problem?

I just suggested that If had shared you storage that you could just add...

I don't know how many virtual machines total you have or their object, but I would say that 2 new servers with enough RAM could accommodate a large number of virtual guests. Eliminate the 32-bit devices or use the 32-bit hardware to create a shared storage.

  • Directly access the disk in the guest OS windows 2003?

    Hello!

Deployed ESXi 3.5 for the first time today to learn more about Virtualization and save some of my servers.

But I ran into a few problems, I have 3 x 1 TB disks with partitions encrypted TrueCrypt, I need to give direct access from the guest OS to Windows 2003.

    Isn't this possible?

I've been running VMware Workstation earlier and there you can do it easily, but I can't find any way to do this in Esxi: S?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Can I run a Windows 2003 on VMWare Server with a date system different from that of my current operating system?

    Hi guys,.

I would like to know if I can install Windows 2003 server using VMWare and run it with a date different system than my current operating system? Is this possible? A quick response would be appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Akshay

So I guess you are trying to run a virtual of Windows machine running at a date other than the ESX host and the rest of your network. Am I wrong?

    In this case:

-Do not use VMware time. If you have installed VMware tools open properties of VMware tools on the Options, tab uncheck the option of time synchronization

-From the services control panel access services 'Windows Time' and set it to disabled and do not forget to stop the service. The service name is W32Time, but its full name is 'Windows Time'

  • Windows 2003 Clustering on VMWare ESX 3.5

    Hi all

I've searched around, and I can only find documents of vi30 on support for Windows 2003 Clustering Services on ESX.

We have a customer with a 3.5 update 4 environment and want to set up a cluster of printing for load balancing reasons. We want to do it using our ESX environment and configure the virtual servers on several nodes.

For the 30 version I read that his support, but you can not use HA or VMotion using Microsoft Clustering services. Now, I also found a few statements that VMotion and HA is supported after 3.5 Update 1, but I can't find any official statement on the matter.

Is there anyone around who can show me any real document on statements of current support for Microsoft 2003 Clustering Services?

    Thank you very much!

The Document refers to ESX3.5 U2 or later version. And there is no ESX 3.5 U4.

  • How to migrate from windows 2003 to windows 2008 with all the work of GPO active directory, DNS, without problem?

    Hello...

I have a problem with windows 2003 to windows 2008 migration. I have try several round of flyway of google and youtube, but he is still fail.
    in the first,.
I have HP Proliant server with windows server 2003. So I restore the backup to a different server HP Proliant wih same hardware specification. I've been back up the System State and the drive C with NTBackup. After I restored on HP Proliant, that I want to migrate, the DNS server is timeout request and the client cannot join domain. I was surprised, because the backup and the material is the same, but it can work as well as the original server.
    in the second case,
I have windows server 2003 in HP Proliant server and it works well. I'm doing a replication on this server to another windows 2003 server in an another HP Proliant and works of good replication (another user can join the domain). After, I have installed windows server 2008 to another PC and make the replication of the duplication of windows 2003. And this success to replicate, but not on the DNS (DNS query time-out).
I have the despair to try migrating Windows 2003 and 2008 because he is still fail in DNS. Another way to migrate to Windows 2003 and 2008 with DNS, AD and GPO work?

  • Windows 2003 fails to start after the conversion from a virtual hard disk with vSphere Standalone Converter 4.0.1

    Hello

I've recently updated my host to vSphere 4. I've also upgraded to vSphere Converter 4.0.1. However, when I convert a Microsoft Windows 2003 virtual hard drive in vSphere, the resulting virtual machine does not start. He gets just after the BIOS screen, then turns black with only a white line in the upper left corner of the console.

I tried the hot and cold conversions. I tried changing the different settings of default conversion. I tried to remove the source machine and recreate.

It worked well under ESX3.5, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong on vSphere.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you.

In v4 disk are in SCSI format only.

Probably also the source was in the SCSI format... so v7 to the IDE format give you not configured in the bootloader of the disks.

  • Connection from Oracle to Sql Server (64-bit on Windows 2003)

    Hello

I want to install heterogeneous connectivity between our Oracle 10 g version 10.0.2.0.1 (on 64-bit Windows 2003) to a SQL Server on another computer on the network. I found that HSODBC is removed, and that this is is not supported on 64-bit Windows systems. So, I couldn't make it work obviously.

It is even possible to set up a heterogeneous connectivity in our situation (using DG4ODBC or something?)
If so, could someone point me in the right direction on where to start?

    Thank you!

(I'm not a dba, previous attempt using hsodbc cost me two weeks before finding out that it doesn't even work...)

    Edit:
Oh, and it is possible to display the Metalink notes as (Metalink Note: 361676.1, is generic connectivity available on The LINUX or Windows 64 - bit Platforms?) without a support contract? Or only customers with a support contract have the right to know that some features are not available?

According to your last update, your actions are:
1.) upgrade Oracle on SERVER1 to 10.2.0.4.0-online Yes
2.) DG4ODBC is not certified to run on SERVER1, then I should install on SERVER2 tell you? That there is no installed Oracle... ?
Yes, install it on the server of SQL Server 32-bit.

The gateway comes with a complete Oracle SQL * Net listener. Just so install the 32-bit to SQL Server and configure the Oracle listener as well as the bridge and the ODBC driver.
Now on the Oracle database server adds a TNSNAMES file. Entry of ORA that points the listener to the Oracle of the gateway on the SQL Server computer. The link of database within the 10 g, which oracle databased then connects using tnsnames.ora alias in the SQL Server computer that has an active Oracle listener that generates connection DG4ODBC. DG4ODBC executable load DG4ODBC configuration file and connects to SQL Server you have configured.

The Oracle gateway are very flexible. You don't need to install them on the Oracle database machine. They can be installed independently; even on a 3rd machine if you do not want to touch the SQL Server computer. In this case, the scenario is similar as described above; only difference now is the driver ODBC to connect to a SQL Server computer on a remote host.
