HP EVA4400 + ESX 3.5.0 + discs Windows 2003 Raw Device Mapping

Hi all

I'm testing a configuration to help:

  • HP EVA 4400

  • ESX 3.5

  • Blade HP c-class

Verification of compatibility EVA4400 on-site HP Spock, I found this note in the section Notes General Guest OS (1): "(7) Raw Device Mapping is not supported on Windows 2003 Guest Operating System load."

I would use snapshot EVA (BC) to a Windows 2003 Server (not R2) for backup.

In the VMware HCL, I have not found confirmation of this note.

  1. does anyone know if the note concerned only W2K3 or same W2K3 R2?

  2. "is there anybody out there" who uses this configuration? EVA4400 is: + W2K3 in ESX 3.5 + RDM + instant. Any problem?

Thank you very much

Max

The restriction was lifted (don't know why he never existed - perhaps no trial):

I recently installed a couple of the virtual machine that will host Lotus Domino providing mail to about 400 users per server.

Virtual machines on ESX 3.5 HP DL585 4 * Quad Core with 32 GB memory, 2 * 6 HBA * NIC with a drive of 15K FC NetApp 3140c storage

I created a VMDK file for Notes data and used a PART of DRIVE to create the partition sho it is aligned on 64 k blocks and then formatted the partition with blocks of 32 KB (in line with the alignment of disc).

When I look in disk management, the partition created by using the PART of the DISC is a base and not on a dynamic Partition partition.

My qustion is... If I change the partition to dynamic it cancel alignment jobs and produce a slower reaction of the I/O?

    Thank you

Expansion VMDK and getting Windows to use space extra is also really easy too and can be done while the virtual machine is online (except the system drive, but it's just a little more effort)

I would recommend avoiding dynamic disks. Where I work, we have thousands of Windows servers and I never remember coming across with dynamic disks.

  • After changing hard drives, I get an error message that says: I need a full version disc windows genuine

Original title: replacement hard drive configuration issue

My hard drive crashed and I can't access anything anyone on this subject. I have a second hard drive that was used for additional storage only. I'm doing this second walk my master drive. After changing the cables, jumpers, the bios settings to show as the master I am using the Windows XP disk, I try to put in place. I get an error message that says: I need a full version disc windows genuine, not a disc to upgrade to. When I bought the computer it came with Windows ME preinstalled and there was no disk that came with the machine. When I went to XP apparently, I bought a version upgrade, not the full version. Is it possible to get a cd of microsoft, or download a file, which can help get this another hard drive mounting correctly?

  • EliteBook 8570w system repair disc Windows 7

    Hi all

I wanted to do a repair disc Windows on my Elitebook 8570w system. It's pretty easy because Hp has a program called Hp Recovery Disc Creator that accomplishes this task for you. It gives you a possibility to burn a Windows disc and a driver disc. What HP calls the Windows disk is the system repair disc.

Now, my problem is that the Windows disk does not work correctly (no idea why). When booting from the DVD screen guard stuck to Windows is loading files... Also when I try to run the installer from the DVD, I get error messages that says 'F:\Sources\autorun.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.' and after 'the file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0xC1]"because I had all of a sudden to make the drive I can't simply make another DVD.

Then, I tried to let Windows do the repair system itself disc (help to create a system repair disc). However, I get a different error message: "the parameter is incorrect (0 x 80070057).» Some people suggest that HP Recovery Disc Creator has "hijacked" the function "Create a system repair disc" window and this is what causes the problem. If HP does not give me a second try, and it prevents Windows to give me a second try as well! Then, perhaps to remove HP Recovery Disc Creator would work. However, it does not list in programs and features and I can not find an uninstall file in its directory.

When you try to find a solution I came across a guide to create a boot Windows 7 Installation USB drive (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html). She is to copy the files from the installation of the USB disk. Step 21 details the files that are on the installation disc. They are the same as on my system repair disc.

Download an image of the installation disk so the same as downloading an image of the system repair disc? (I download an atm file but don't know if that makes sense) If not, are there other options to create a new system repair disc? Maybe somehow Uninstall HP Recovery Disc Creator or he fool into thinking I have not yet tried to do a Windows disc? Where can I download a disk image of the repair system somewhere online (I found most of the links are dead)?

Please let me know if additional information is required! Thanks in advance!

    Michael

TLDR: burned a disc repair system, the disk is not working properly, HP and Windows will not let me try to burn again. Other options?

    Hello:

You can probably make an ISO file of the version of W7 Pro you must go to the link below.

Use the SP1 media files regenerate.

    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-multiple-languages-x86-amp-x64/page59?p=470600&viewfull=1#post470600

Use the W7 Pro from the bottom of the laptop product key to activate the installation.

This tool allows to transfer the ISO to a flash DRIVE or a DVD drive.  The tool also performs the bootable file.

Your other option would be to order a series of W7 for your PC recovery discs, by contacting HP for the country that you live in the link below.

  • Windows 2003 Clustering on VMWare ESX 3.5

    Hi all

I've searched around, and I can only find documents of vi30 on support for Windows 2003 Clustering Services on ESX.

We have a customer with a 3.5 update 4 environment and want to set up a cluster of printing for load balancing reasons. We want to do it using our ESX environment and configure the virtual servers on several nodes.

For the 30 version I read that his support, but you can not use HA or VMotion using Microsoft Clustering services. Now, I also found a few statements that VMotion and HA is supported after 3.5 Update 1, but I can't find any official statement on the matter.

Is there anyone around who can show me any real document on statements of current support for Microsoft 2003 Clustering Services?

    Thank you very much!

The Document refers to ESX3.5 U2 or later version. And there is no ESX 3.5 U4.

  • How to increase the HD in windows 2003 (no contiguous space) of the virtual machine

    Hello everyone!

My infrastructure are 4 4.1 ESX servers and 1 VC.

My VM is called "Windows2003. It has a 40 GB hard drive. With two partitions C: and D:

I would like to increase the C partition, but I don't know how

    (1) using the vsphere, change settings, increase HD more than 5 GB.

    (2) but now when I try to add this new space in C: by using diskpart.exe, I can't because it isn't a contiguous space

    Any idea?

    Thank you very much

    Jose.

    Hello

DiskPart does not always work on the partition of Windows 2003 operating system and often need a reboot or 3rd party utillity.

It is not a contiguous space

In this case it will not work, because the added space is added at the end of the vDisk.

    |____C:\____|_____D:\_____|____Free___|

You must move your D drive to a new drive, free up space on the original disc and extend the C drive

Nod is a good idea to partion your vDisks for this reason, another reason is performance, and it is so easy just create additional vDisks in vSphere.

Normally, you must create a vDisk C:\ and a vDisk to D:\

    |_____C:\_______|____Free__|

    | ___D:\___|___Free__|

This way you can extend one of them at any time.

    Hope it makes sense

Please allow points if you find this useful/correct

  • Cluster of P2V existing Windows 2003 two nodes exchange 2007

    Hello

I want to know how I can create a cluster of the P2v of my production windows node cluster on a host two unique esx4i. It is only for purposes of laboratory and test. The reason why I've done a P2v is I want to imitate my production environment, and as production data.

I've done a p2v of my node Exchange 2007 cluster two production Windows 2003 64-bit.  How can I reconfigure disks (quorum, data) for the cluster?

I've seen a lot of e of documents telling me to remove the discs and re create, but I want to keep the data.

I would like to know if someone has done with success the P2v cluster.

    Please notify.

I understand you want to keep the data - this guide will give you necessary for nodes in vm configurations and storage relavent - if you want to keep the two nodes in the cluster on separate from ESX boxes, then you will need to maintain a quorum and the shared data on the physical SAN LUNS and allows to connect to storage RDM - if they all exist on the same ESX Server I shute evrything down - P@V primary node with the disk data and shared quorum, then P2V system disk of secondary nodes - in both cases follow the configurations described in the guides and you should be good to go-

    > Why should I the extra CPU?

UH... because you ask how much Windows 2003 virtual machine, you can run... I GUESS that means more out... That more CPU more the better overall performance of ESX, VM and ESX operating system are designed to work on ALL hearts, so the more hearts of better performance.

In your config version right now, I wouldn't go above 20 VM.  as you plan to use only 1 hard drive?

If you use 1 disc, you realize that you have only 1 disc do all the work... right?

  • Extremely slow CHKDSK on external Drobo B1200i connected to a Windows 2003 Server)

(I have a Drobo B1200i related to an unresolved external server) windows 2003 Server), with 9 x 4, double redundancy to discs. The scoreboard shows that all drives are healthy. The player has 2 LUNs. One of the units is 16TO and used to store data, some are small files and some are large files. We found errors when you try to save this logical unit, which prompted running chkdsk. Run us CHKDSK G:/x/f/r it was launched on 22 may at 18:00. He ran steps 1-3 to 25 may, making hundreds of repairs (deleting entry index... recovery of file... orphans replacing non-security IDS valid... Insert the attribute data to place...)

He has been blocked since May 25 (for 3.5 days) 60% of the step 4 of 5, moving very slowly. Currently, it reads "(14191283 of 20660608 processed files) all 60 percent" the number of processed files remains to be the same number of hours and moves upward then 5000 files and then a few hours left in the same issue for others... At this rate, it may take 3-4 months at the end!

    My questions are the following:

1 - is it normal to take this amount of time with the large disk like mine (16 TB)?

    2. is there a risk of data loss if I stop it now?

    3. is there a chance that what has already been solved during the early stages is all that was needed, and that interrupts it the process now will be harmless?

    4. If I stop the process now and errors persist, and I decide to run CHKDSK again, it run faster for the early stages and get to the current point faster than the 6 days it has taken to get this far? or it will take another 6 days to join the current point?
