Function of Windows Explorer 'research' missing in Win 7/Office 2010?

Make a right click on the Windows Explorer in Win 7/Office 2010 doen't have an option to 'search' as it did in my OS/Office previous version.  Is this a change of program, a Setup error or a user error?  I prefer the original "Research Assistant" which dates back to XP/Office 2003 and earlier versions.

No more little puppy... instead, click the folder or drive to search for, then look in the upper right corner or the Windows Explorer. -Gina Whipp 2010 Microsoft MVP (access) Please post all responses on the forum where everyone can enjoy.

    Hello MSFT sensi.
I need help. I have the Microsoft Natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard with IntelliType 8.15 64-bit for Windows 7 installed. I run on a brand new i7 with 9 GB of ram and 1 TB of hard drive.  I just installed Office 2010.  Have you tested this keayboard with Office 2010?

I bought and returned 2 of these keyboards at my local dealer and two keyboards have the same problem. Preconfigured keys (help, undo, redo, new, open, close, reply, fwd, send, spell, save and print) F1 - F12 do function not all as they are indicated in MS Word 2010 etc. I was able to program my favorites 1-5 with little problem.

I did the following to try to resolve the problem:
    1. research of virus (clean)
    2. uninstalled the driver and downloaded the last strand 8.15 64
3 entered the keyboard layout configuration and reset the default settings
4 tried to manually program the F1 - F12 function keys

NONE of these things solve the problem.  Which brings me to the conclusion that this keyboard does not have to be 100% compatible with Office 2010.

Any suggestions / feature of configuration problems feature keys?

PS. No, I didn't record this keyboard, because is it not there no solution - he goes back to the retailer.

To the right of the function keys, there is a key LOCK.

Toggle this button to toggle between the keys F1 to F12 with their usual function and the functions listed in the relevant programs.

    Thank you for your time

If you have performed an upgrade in place dedicated to Windows 8 of Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 is still installed and must be localizable/able to work without any problem.  So the link I gave in my original answer which - when visited - explains how to start a Microsoft Office application in Windows 8 * if * Microsoft Office is installed.  Given the trouble you've had so far, I would first try the instructions 'charm research' on this page.

If you have performed a clean installation somehow (rather than an upgrade) - then, you need to install Microsoft Office 2010 again from the installation media.  If it's a download (Microsoft Office), you must either download it again or if all goes well you copied the files/Installer downloaded to external media.  You also need a product key for Microsoft Office 2010 in this case.

It's a long cut as short as vent. I've been miss sold a record of upgrade of windows 8 full disk-shaped, with norton and office 2010. So, followed by all as should be. The prompt update from apple was quick time, iTunes and airport, I checked all and then updated. Then I loaded office 2010 and obtained throughout the process from the Microsoft site. On the last part of the installation, the installation failed due to a mistake of hanging iTunes. Hi team, support

I'm using windows 7, 64-bit and Office 2010 operating system. I want to save web files(e-invoices) in .tif format.

Because the tif format is only way to download web files(e-invoices) in the download system.

Please tell us how can I save the files directly in tif like Window XP format.

He had no problem when I used Windows XP. I could save the files in tif through Microsoft Office Image Writer as a default format.

A tif file is simply an image

Office 2010 does not include Microsoft Office Image Writer, he made the MS featured xps document writer and send to OneNote (according to the version of office)

  • Error does not support 64-bit Windows, Explorer of Titanic on Win 7 64 bit installation

Original title: Titanic Explorer on Win 7 64 bit Running

Hello, I just got an application called James Cameron's Titanic Explorer, it's cool, but I have a problem installing it.

When I try to install it, it says it does not support 64-bit Windows. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 bit.

Is there a way I could run in 64-bit Windows? Thanks for help

EDIT: I tried compatibility mode, no luck.

According to the program, it does not work on a 64-bit so make OS run natively is very likely.

If you have another Windows license, you can still use Windows Virtual PC to run virtually, but keep in mind any visualization program has limited graphics ability and it may not always work well or very quickly.

  • Missing vertical lines in Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer is missing vertical lines in the folder tree. These lines are to distinguish records expanded on the other. We currently hold a sheet of paper to the screen to see where the files line up. Vista and XP have this site but we can't seem to find where to activate in 7. In addition, during the not overview not the navigation panel arrows indicating which files are extensible disappear. This is much more tedious and prone to error when searching for records that contain additional folders. Since we are developers (and even non-developers) but works with files consistently, it is a huge annoyance and decrease our productivity so that we need to downgrade to XP or find an alternative.

XP is perhaps what best suits you. If the Explorer is your tool of choice for managing data, 7 won't (do the lines of navigation for folders). If I were still in development, I would like to use a my SQL Server query to define data sets, but if the Explorer is your tool of choice, there is nothing wrong with the help of XP. If you have hardware for virtualization, you can install 'XP Mode' and stay with the very easy to use 7 for everything else.

  • Windows Explorer toolbar is missing

The toolbar of Windows Explorer is missing. It is a problem of blocking for me. I will come back to the computer and request a refund or request XP if it cannot be repaired.

I was able to install a legacy program that serves every day. ITS toolbar is also absent.

I have dozens of legacy programs that are not "compatible". I appreciate these applications much more highly than an interface continuously chinless with transparent borders. It is a blocking problem. . I will come back to the computer and request a refund or request XP if it cannot be repaired.

My eyes are sensitive to light. The first thing I do when I buy a new Windows machine is to set the background to gray File Explorer. I can't do it, even in the "Standard" view

These things can be fixed? I could live with the 100's of other embarrassment of this UI, but not these elements.

Display the Menu bar in Windows Explorer - very easy to fix 1. Click the Start button, type folder options and click on the link 'Options folders' that appears.

    2. when several tabs 'Folder Options' dialog box is displayed, click the "View" tab

If you have Windows 7 Professional or ultimate, you can download and run the XP Mode to install your legacy programs.

After you have installed the free Classic Shell , you can customize Windows Explorer more closely to how you want it, the quote below is just a way to do it. Click here to see some of the options that you can customize, and here is the FAQ page for the classic interface.

A solution that worked for the restoration of some features.

    (1) install the free Classic shell.  It's very customizable and works like a mod for Windows Explorer rather than a full blown replacement. You need to install the classic Start Menu option, but you can if you wish.
    (2) restart the computer.
    (3) launch Windows Explorer (Start - computer) and turn on "Always show Menus" (organize - Layout - check menu bar). It's just for the configuration, you can disable it again later if you wish.
    (4) make a right click on the menu bar and turn in the "Classic Explorer bar. This adds a series of icons for cut/copy/paste in Explorer. Basically, it also adds the "Configuration" icon
    5) go to the configuration and from there you can edit things to your heart's content. To kill the horrible record-jumping 7 Windows, place you Vista in 'Style Navigation pane. You can even hit back to XP mode if you want (this adds lines to the tree of folders and adds a classic icon "+" for the expansion of folders). The Windows Vista folder display style looks about the same as the view from Windows 7, but it gets rid of the horrible blow.
    (6) adjust other settings you want.

After that, you can activate the toolbar and menus walk back to explore if you wish. Explorer Windows seems largely the same, but folders is no longer jumping around.  Vote for Microsoft to fix this bug.

  • Windows Explorer button shows only libraries

A few days in a new pc with new to me Windows 7 and the Windows Explorer button suddenly only shows 'Libraries' records and files recently viewed. How do I show the full c: / drive once again, with my Photos, etc., and usb drive E when you use)?

    1. first of all, you will need to open Windows Explorer shortcut properties. If you want to change the folder target of the shortcut in Explorer Windows that is pinned to the taskbar in Windows 7, press the 'SHIFT' key and right-click on the icon in the taskbar. It will open the Windows XP/Vista old style context menu where you should select the option "Properties".

Alternatively, you can right-click on the icon that will show the jumplist. Now, even once with the right button on the entry of "Windows Explorer" presents in the jumplist and select the properties option:

For the other shortcuts in Windows Explorer as a shortcut in all programs menu or in the office, you do not have to press the SHIFT key. Just right click on the shortcut and select Properties.

2 once you open the properties of the shortcut, you will see %windir%\explorer.exe written text in the targettext box. You just need to change this text string to customize the destination for the Windows Explorer shortcut folder.

To open the my computer when you click on the Windows Explorer shortcut, just add an blank space, and double quotes ("'") at the end of the text in the text box target as shown in the following screenshot:

If the entire text string would become %windir%\explorer.exe ""

That's all. Now whenever you click on the Windows Explorer shortcut, it will open the my computer window instead of displaying the default libraries.

3 if you want to set the target to a drive or folder, do not add double quotes. Just add the path to the end. By example, if you want to open the C: drive on the target%windir%\explorer.exe C: text string or if you want to open a folder e.g. D:\Setup, then set the text string target on %windir%\explorer.exe D:\Setup

You can see its very simple and easy to change the shortcut to Windows Explorer startup folder in Windows 7.

NOTE: You can also use environment variables to change the folder target to the Documents folder, profile folder, etc. You can get the complete list of all the variables of environment here.

PS: If you want to restore the functionality of Windows Explorer shortcut and want to open libraries once again, simply remove newly added text in the target text box strings and assign %windir%\explorer.exe again.

  • Windows Explorer for Windows 7 - How to stop automatically sort my files

I have Windows 7.  Explorer Windows automatically sorts my files in each folder.  I put in "sort by..." Name ', so for now he is sorting alphabetically, but no matter what I put in 'Grading', it does it automatically.  But I want to be able to move the files to the folder in different orders, and then once I'm satisfied with the order, then I can change the name of each file and then choose to classify them alphabetically or otherwise.

For example, this is useful for a folder full of photos.  Let's say I have a folder with 50 photos in there of holiday, and I would like to re - order these photos, but I want to play visually with different orders until I have decide to order, I like most.  So I want to move each file/photo until I like the Decree.  To do this, I would open this particular folder in Windows Explorer, then select the "Large icons" view and then moving the photos until I like order.  And then once I have pictures in the order I want, then I would like to rename each picture (1, 2, 3, etc.) and then Windows Explorer say "sort by...» Nu.  That's how it was on my old computer, but I got XP and now I have Windows 7, but I can't imagine that Windows 7 would not let me do the same thing.  But the way it works for me now, Windows Explorer comes automatically orders/sorts my files depending on the option "sort by" I chose.  So if I change the name of the files (from 'Photo #25' to ' Photo #10 "'), it automatically goes this photo between" Photo #09 "and" Photo #11 ".»»  And if I try to move 'Photo #10' next to say "#37 picture"to see how they look next to each other, it won't let me. "

so... Is it possible to have Windows Explorer "NOT" sort my files until I have to say?

How to fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane
See the bottom of this post for help with the bug of scrolling in the left pane.

The most important features that need to be returned to Windows Explorer:

    (1) the option to turn off the auto arrange.

    (2) fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane: If you view a folder and expand in the left pane to display its subfolders, the folder is annoyingly prefer to the bottom of the component causing the subfolders do not appear, making it difficult to work with.

    (3) when several files are selected they should stay selected when changing the sort order (ex: name of size). Maintenance of the files selected in the sort should be a requirement, and this feature should not have been removed.

    (4) the option to remember the view settings of each folder (Recalling the positions and sizes of the individual folder window).

    (5) the option to remove 'Complete the selection of lines' to see in detail. "Selection of whole lines" is very annoying when the file is complete and has no empty space to click on. Also, when dragging / delete the file to another folder - if you release the on the line of a subfolder or file de.exe/.zip/.rar 'selection of whole lines' causes the file to be moved in the subfolder ou.exe/.zip/.rar instead file the file provided.

    (6) a search engine with all the advanced search options. No required syntax.

    (7) the option to always display free disk size space and record on the State and/or the details pane toolbar. Also always automatically show the size of the selected files (when several files are selected it will not show the total size).

    (8) the ability to scroll the window/pane mouse is with the mouse wheel, even if this window/pane is not selected.

Inform you want Windows explorers returned Microsoft functions:

Given that many people seem to agree that some or all of the changes made to Windows Explorer were actually less friendly user, you can go to the Windows 7 comments page and (politely) to let them know your suggestions to improve:

    http://mymfe.Microsoft.com/Windows%207/feedback.aspx?formid=195

Note: do not have the message that is too long, there is a size limit for your message, even if page does not tell you on this subject. Also, do not just copy and paste from the list above - they'll think that the same person is repeatedly submit comments.

Using the classic interface to restore functionality of Windows Explorer

After you have installed the free Classic Shell , you can customize Windows Explorer more closely to how you want it, the quote below is just a way to do it. Click here to see some of the options that you can customize, and here is the FAQ page.

A solution that worked for the restoration of some features.

    (1) install the free classic Shell. It's free, completely customizable and works like a mod for Windows Explorer, rather than a full blown replacement. Personally, I did not fit the classic Start Menu option, but you can if you wish.
    (2) restart the computer.
    (3) launch Windows Explorer and turn on "Always show Menus" (it's just for the configuration, you can disable it again later if you want).
You can even go more retro and hit return to XP mode if you want (this adds lines to the tree of folders and adds a classic icon "+" for the expansion of folders).
    (6) set the parameters of other institutions. I have so that the bit "more details" in the dialogues of copy is automatically extended, I checked the option "display free space and size of the file in the status bar" (no need to right click on the drive to see how much space is left), personally, I decided to stay with the "overwrite file" dialog box Windows 7 style (the default is the simplest dialogue style Vista/XP) , and I went for the Windows Vista style folders display that looks about the same as the view from Windows 7, but get rid of the horrible jump.

After that, you can activate the toolbar and menus walk back to explore if you wish. Explorer Windows seems largely the same, but folders is no longer jumping around.

Now if only MS allows to code correctly so that we don't have to mess with third-party applications to get Windows actually works...

  • In Windows Explorer, the Navigation panel jumps with a folder selected to the bottom of the screen, making it difficult for the subfolders of the opening. Why does do this, and can be corrected?

The difficulty to try to reproduce this now, but when this happens, I have to use the scroll bar to make subfolders in sight.  More disconcerting. XP was not like that.

  • Disconnect all hard secondary causes 7 windows, win office 2010 to bad work and updates

    I have this Setup:

-Windows 7 ultimate installed as 64-bit, Office 2010, Adobe CS programs, Avast Antivirus

-16 GB memory card mother ASrock 970, some relatively new ATI graphics card

SSD hard drive. This player has all my programs and win 7 is installed.
-two traditional physical hard drives that I use mainly for files and backups
I bought new, largest SSD hard drive get rid one of the oldest mechanical hard drives. I unplugged the old hard drives SATA cables (power has been cut), new SSD hard drive formatted using the windows Disk Manager and everything is OK so far. Load Windows 7 and I can open programs etc. and new works by SSD hard drive.
But now when I try the following actions:

-I can't use the automatic updates of MS--> it gives me error and does not install updates
-I can't open Office 2010 documents via either fails to SSDS giving the error message in my language (Finnish, English)
-I can not open the Office documents through Outlook emails directly, gives error similar as above
-I can't open files another of some programs, such as Adobe Photoshop 6. It is said in my language files are locked
-I cannot receive or send emails with Outlook. It's yellow!-mark the lower pane of outlook saying that ISP has problem, but when I connect ISP E-mail with webmail client, it works fine. So it seems Outlook problem for me.
-I can't run anything in the adimistrator system
All above tasks fails and gives some mystical error dialogs. Several other places gives errors too.
So, the only thing I did was that I unplugged my secondary hard drives SATA cable.  Think about it, I have come back and plugged these HDDs SATA back cables and turned on my computer. The result is: everything is working now, again, I can open the files, I can run updates and so on. None of the above errors are gone.
Things make these mistakes is so just unplug the SATA cable. I don't want to do more.
How is this possible and how to fix this? My physical hard disks are old, one day they will die and I scared when it happens, these errors come back to me.
Any ideas what causes this and how to fix it? My system is currently works very well as I plugged it in my drives SATA cables hard high back. How can I help Microsoft solve this problem in order to provide a fix?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jussi

You must disconnect the old drive, one that contains the origonal win installation, then repair the installation of win on the ssd. (Personally I would disconnect time / all your additional H/disks, its only necessary to remove power connectors, while you repair.)

Make sure that windows update is running for important updates and that they correctly install and check the basic operation, if ok, then.

Then just connect your new ssd and then check the basic operation of PC.

Assuming it is OK, then connect the last disk and retest basic operation
