G10 vs Canon 1000 d

Hello.

I guess you guys can give me a better understanding, I can't myself.

I got the Canon 1000 d and the Canon Powershot G10 for all 200dollars each.

Canon 1000 d a ef-s 18-55mm, 1: 3. 5 - 5.6.

It's stupid to buy an old camera? Or is this a good price, and a camera I will be satisfied for a long time?

Your sincerely Kalle.

Hello

The G10 has excellent image quality and has a setting of 'Raw '. It is a 'Pro' camera with great ergonomics. If it is in good condition, $200 is a bargain. I have several SLR and it's true that they have the advantage of interchangeable lenses, but for those times where you don't want to wear a big, you will not be disappointed with the G10. There's no shutter lag sensitive, at least in the single shot mode. If you need to shoot a lot of action and use the zoom often, it could slow you down as the zoom is controlled electronically rather than manually. Other than that, it's a wonderful device. When I used it first of all, I was very surprised by the quality of the image. For the price, you can get both cameras. They each have advantages.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The 6 d only might not be appropriate for your specific uses, it would be actually better in a couple of ways. You mention low light performance as your key need.  6 d is better than the 5 d 3 in low light.

First of all, 6 d can autofocus in light lower than the 5 d 3 May (2 vs-3 EV-EV).  Second, the image quality at high ISO is just a little better for the 6 d and you will usually be shooting with an ISO high in semidarkness.

  • Cannot open the Canon 6 d Raw files in CS5. [was: Camera Raw / Photoshop is not compatible]

    Hello

I just upgraded from a Canon 1000 d with a Canon 6 d, during shooting in raw and try to open it with photoshop, it says the camera raw is not compatible and it uses a different format, even if both devices have the CR2 file, I never had problems with my 1000 d. I have photoshop CS5 and have tried to update, but it still does not work. Someone knows how to fix this? I'm a photography student and my deadline is in 2 weeks, so I really need to get to this sorting asap! Advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

It uses a different format, even if both devices have the CR2 file

CR2 is not a fixed file format. It varies with each camera model that make cannon. It is the same for all the camera manufacturers.

New camera, new file Raw, same Raw file extension format model (CR2 = Canon, NAVE = Nikon, etc.).

Devices supported by Adobe Camera Raw

Camera Raw plugin and Adobe application compatibility

The 1000 d is supported in Camera Raw 5.1 and later - compatible with CS4 and later. CS5 can open these Raw files.

The 6 d is supported in Camera Raw 7.3 and later - compatible with CS6 and later. CS5 cannot open these Raw files.

RAW support is never added retroactively to older versions of the Adobe software you will never be able to open files 6 d Raw in CS5.

    1. Join the Cloud (Plan of photography) and get Photoshop CC 2015 + Lightroom CC 2015 for $10 / month (as long as your computer can run)
    2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all the 6 d to DNG Raw files, then change the DNG files in CS5. An extra step for you, but no extra costs.

  • How can I get support for the raw format on Lr 4.4 for Canon 7 d mk2 files?

IHAVE been download of images from a Canon 1000 d Lr 4.4 with no problems. But I now have a Canon 7Dmk2 and improting images became impossible. When I try, I get a message saying that the files are not supported by the suport of raw format in Lightroom. Can someone tell me how I can get the support of raw right?

New camera is new file format = need for new software.

For a built-in 7 2 files support, you need version 5.7 or more recent LR.

If you want to stay with LR 4.4, you need to download the current DNG Converter and convert the 7 d files manually 2 DNG and import the DNG files into LR4.

  • PS CS4 with CR 5.7, Lightroom 2.7, DNG 5.6 converter all do not recognize 1000 d .cr2

Like others I have experienced http://forums.Adobe.com/message/3706070#3706070 also cannot open raw files from Canon 1000 d .cr2 even if it is listed as supported in the file Readme of Camera Raw 5.7 http://www.Adobe.com/special/Photoshop/camera_raw/Camera_Raw_5.7_ReadMe.PDF

I use PS CS 4 with Camera Raw 5.7 on a PowerPC G5 and I have no problem opening of Nikon raw files, say,.

It seems to be no official response from Adobe how to solve this problem, even if it is not new. What knowledge went out previous decisions? Camera Raw 5.7 supports CS4 on PowerPC or isn't? If not, why this exception is not listed in the documentation?

In the interest other 1000 d owners who encounter the same problem that I have, seems, who provided one were shooting Raw + jpg there is a possible bug that will corrupt RAW files if you transfer using the 1000 d camera. The symptoms are that the RAW files are about the same size as jpg files when you imported the. This was the case with my files. RAW files should be larger than the jpg's counterpart.

The solution is to use a RAW compatible card reader to transfer with. or for the future, to shoot only in RAW.

As RAW import is something control to Adobe via Camera Raw, I can't help to feel their communication with Canon and here in this discussion very like any other concerning also the same problem, as someone who works for Adobe, that is posted here in the forums about this, might have mentioned this bug years ago. No mention outside worked with Canon, so that products Adobe would fully cooperate with the 1000 d camera that Camera Raw supports officially.

Jeff, then that is perhaps correct would you please explain how this is relevant with the CS4 and ACR 5.7, given that ACR 5.7 does support the 1000 d?

Yep... you' be right. I just looked on the ACR 5.7 camera list and the 1000 d is indeed listed. Thus, the OP didn't need to use the DNG Converter until it updates his plugin Camera Raw 5.7 v.

  • Help with importing images .raw and b + w filters

I recently picked up a large number of b + w images.  With most of these images, I apply a red in the filter of the camera.  When I then import photos in lightroom 2.3 that a color version of my image is then made, without the red in camera of the filter I took photos with.  No one knows so as to restrict the lightroom changing .raw their version color images and show them that they have been taken.  If it's important I shoot with a Canon 1000 d.   Help, please!   Thank you.

Lightroom does not take into account metadata settings that are what is applied when you are working with RAW and use the Canon picture Style settings.

Those who apply to the format JPG, but not VINTAGE.  It's actually a feature, not a bug, because it is considered to give you more control by using the settings in Lightroom for Monochrome and apply red shades - more you could have always still the flexibility of manufacturing was if color printing you want, that you would lose if RAW applied the picture Style settings.  If it you shoot in RAW + Jpeg (or Jpeg only), bugs and provide JPEG images in LR, but I recommend to stick to RAW and applying the changes in Lightroom instead.

  • Canon EOS 1000 d does not work

    Hi all

I have a canon eos 1000 d and the use of the camera for a shot on a 64-bit windows computer 7, everything worked fine until I took a photo and the program has stopped responding. I finished the program and disconnected from the camera, after that if I try to connect the camera to the computer again it starts to install drivers so windows says the device has malfunctioned and was arrested. I tried to connect to another computer and the same thing happens, I also reinstalled the firmware (1.0.7) and has not touched anything. The camera still works fine on its own. Help, please.

If you haven't already done so, I recommend to download and reinstall the drivers from Canon and the software on your computer. I assume you are using EOS Utilities for remote shooting... Perhaps that has been corrupted in some way, on your computer is the main I would update.

If this does not resolve the problem, I try another USB cable and carefully check the cable to the computer and the camera shots.

I hope that this action has resolved the problem.

  • Color Management Confusion - Canon PRO 1000 printer

Users of Photoshop CC out there working with PRO-1000 printer from Canon?

Obviously, I should have a handle on my colors, but despite the download management workflow and by applying the right profiles of icc for the documents, have a calibrated EIZO monitor, the colors are downright bad and inconsistent at best.

    The dilemma:

In my printer set up, I have a color management options) let the printer manage colors, or b) let Photoshop manage colors.

The big problem I have with the PS, it is that if I let Photoshop manage colors (what I want), I get a warning that says "Please use Adobe Color Printer Utility If you need to print with no color management.

    printer setup.jpg

There are already 2 problems with this:

    1. I DON'T want to print with color management

    2. the utility of Adobe Color printer not only is not manage the colors, it is apparently not yet supported by Photoshop CC, that was told to me through some Adobe support chat. The utility itself seems pretty useless.

The question becomes HOW am I supposed TO MANAGE COLOR using the CANON PRO 1000 with ADOBE CC?

With an exhibition that I'm supposed to be set up in less than a week and no Adobe or Canon support site, I passed the point of despair and entry in full-on panic. Someone please help! Thank you.

In fact, there is no much to experiment. If Canon profiles are good, and there is no reason to think that they are not, there is only one way to do it:

    • The document in a standard color space
    • Photoshop manages color (if ensure that color management turned off the coast in the printer driver, you don't want the color management double)
    • Choose the right profile for your paper in the PS print dialog box
    • Also choose the type of media in the printer driver to set the total amount of ink

The printer driver is that you get to when you click on 'Properties' in the dialog box print in Photoshop.

There's a review here, separated what corresponds to your objectives of calibration of monitor the density of white ink and paper max (this is to monitor the white and black points). If you get prints that are too dark, your screen is too bright. Not the other way around.

  • Video quality problems with imported files from Canon HF G10

    Hello

I've been with CS4 edition for several years, but I am relatively new to the Canon HF G10 and AVCHD files.  I've shot several scenes with my camera set to FXP (1920 X 1080) recording mode and rate of 24 p.  According to the manual, "using this rate will reach the same film appearance as pf24 the difference being that the video is saved as true 24 p."  I've set up a project with a preset for AVCHD 1080 p 24.  The clips look terrible when I play.  A lot of jump, random pixelation and fuziness (it almost looks amore) around the edges.  The clips that show all that 29.97 even if the sequence shows like 23.97.  I read a lot of cameras wraps a 24 p in a container of 60 fps, so I thought that this could be the problem. So, out of curiosity, I did a test and shot a few videos with cadence PF30 value. According to the manual, it is taken to 60i.  I imported the video into a project with preset AVCHD 1080 p 30 and the clip looks the same.  I have viewd the clips using Windows Media Player and they look good, so I think that the problem is not the lack of power on my computer.  For more information, it is my configuration:

    I'm under CS4.2.1.

Of suggestions as to parameters or settings I can use to make the read as well in PP when video on the camera would really be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

I found a solution that works for me, and since there is no other suggestion, I'll pass it along in case others are having this same problem.  What I ended up doing is install CineForm and use it to convert AVCHD to HD.  It handles 24 p inside a container 60i problem and converted files, when they are imported into PP CS4, perfect appearance.  The only downside is that CineForm is not freeware, but the price was worth more than the aggrevation that it eliminated.

  • CS4 do not recognize Canon HF G10

I have been using PP CS4 for a couple of years to capture clips shot with my Canon HDV.  Recently, I bought a Canon HF G10, but I can't capture directly from the camera in CS4.  My computer recognizes the camera (as shown in Device Manager) but CS4 does not recognize it is a camera attached when I open the Capture window.  HF G10 can export via USB or HDMI but no IEEE1394 (Firewire).  Is CS4 limited in order to grasp only via Firewire?  I can copy the flies as .mts to disk and then import them to CS4 but I lose the ability to divide the camera feed into clips and omit the parts that I capture.  Also, as noted in another post, imported .mts files seem to have occasional stuttering randomly during playback.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

    Bill

You cannot ingest AVCHD (your new camera) in the same way as Capture HDV (your old appliance), nor with CS5.5. Its a whole new/different technology and it has nothing to do with the first not being able to manipulate the camera.

I fear you will learn and live with it.
