  I'm trying to rename a file hard using vSphere CLI, which I was able to do several times a few months ago.   The command I use is:

  vmkfstools.pl - Server < MyHost > e [Datastore1] / < MyHost > / < MyHost > hard [Datastore1] / < MyHost > / < MyNewHost > hard

  After entering my username and password, I get the following error:

  Cannot move the virtual disk: fault. RestrictedVersion.summary

  As I said, I could do this a few months ago.  At that point, I was running ESXi 5.0 with no patch.  Since then, I have installed all the patches for 5.0, including U1, and it is the first attempt I made to rename an installed since these patches werer vmdk file.  I tried the upgrade from the CLI to 5.0.0 - 615831, then 5.1.0 - 780721, but still not the same error.

  I don't know that the question will come as to why I am trying to rename the first vmdk file.  It is the method I used to clone my VMs.  I built a basic VM, copied the vmdk in another data store, then renamed the vmdk.

  I have a problem running the build process on an ESXi 4.0 in my lab with VMware Studio 2.1.

  I have several faults. RestrictedVersion.summary errors, the first is:

  I've seen a few threads talking about a free version of ESXi with these errors, but they were for VMware Studio 2.0 in beta, so I don't know if they are relevant to my case.

  Also, I didn't see any known problem or a problem of compatibility in the 2.1 release notes.

  the reason for the error is indeed the free version of ESXi.

  The build fails with the following error string:

  fault. RestrictedVersion.summary

  Put into service through ESXi with free ESXi license generates this error because ESX capabilities required for commissioning are not available. The evaluation of ESXi license (which ends in a given period of time) or a paid license will solve this problem.

  Hello

  Im trying to create a virtual disk using the CLI on ESX4i.  The script is:

  vmkfstools.pl - Server 10.190.2.51 - c 20 g d eagerzeroedthick - a free /vmfs/volumes/Internal/test.vmdk

  When the script runs I get error: unable to create the virtual disk: fault. RestrictedVersion.summary

  Can someone tell me why please.  Im trying to create a disk of 20 GB with adapter free with eagerzeroedthick on my internal called storage, (no subdirectory).

  The file system is THAT VMFS 3.33 maximum file size is 256 GB.  The block size is 1 MB.  If it is the block size that is the problem how can I easily change?

  It's in a laboratory, not a production environment.  I need the flag eagerzeroedthick like Im trying to create a passive active cluster node MSCS 2 on a single physical node with 2 machines VMS.

  The license that you are subscribed is simply the 'free' version, it does not have any type of management remotely using the vCLI or PowerCLI tools. You can enable SNMP using the vSphere Client in which you can get for free by pointing your browser to the ESXi host, you have built and download it and install it on a Windows System.

  Currently have a server ESX 4.1, which I'm trying to migrate my VM from a 5.5 ESXi server.  When I try to migrate, I get a pbm.fault.PBMFault.summary without additional information.  Connected to my server via Client vSphere vCenter.

  I'm running a problem on an ESXi 5.0.0 (768111)

  For a virtual machine, it shows 'consolidation of needs', but when I try to start that, the process fails with the error 'Fault.FileTooLarge.Summary '.

  The vmdk is 2 TB, and took a snapshot that has been removed.

  Any ideas?

  What is the exact size of the virtual disk? In order to be able to take pictures, the maximum size of virtual disk is 2 032 GB (2 TB less 16 GB). Maybe the warning occurs because the snapshot creation failed! What you can try is to run the consolidation with the virtual machine off. If this does not help, thank you for posting a screenshot of the window of the data store which displays files of the VM (with sizes and timestamps).

  You happen to have a somewhare to the station which still has PowerShell v2 installed?

  If so, can you try it here?

  As you probably know the latest PowerCLI does not support PowerShell v3, although there have not been many reports of problems.

  But that the error you get seems to have been mentioned twice already.

  Error Win32 64 is in fact "the specified network name is no longer available."

  Looks like there was a problem with the network during the conversion. You may want to check if there is a firewall on the destination computer and disable it. Also check if there is enough free space.

  I have two boxes of esxi. I use vifs.pl to copy data files from a data store to another on the same box. On the same machine, everything works fine. On the second I have fault. RestrictedVersion. Summary of errors on everything that I try to copy. Both servers have the same license number and were built on the same CD. the code is the same, except the volumn number and name of the directory. What can I possibly hurt?

  The Restriction Version summary very likely is the result of ESXi 3.5u4 fixing the VI API to have only read-only for the free version of ESXi, also explained here: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/

  Speaking with people from VMware, sharp must not affect by locking the VI API because it does not rely on the API to download files, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm still waiting for a confirmation. But at the present time, the free version does not allow for write operations, which includes the use of vivid

  You always have the option to use the VI Client and browser data store to download files, you just won't be able to automate using the API of VI/RCLI/Powershell

  Yes, you can use the Set-VMHostSnmp cmdlet to configure snmp on the ESX host.

  Remember that you must connect to the ESX host not vCenter.

  For examples, take a look at setting up SNMP configuration of VMWare with Powershell

  Unfortunately, the Start-VMHostService cmdlet cannot be used to restart the snmpd daemon.

  Because the master image clone as on the image of the master, there is some activity in the waiting can be the model of master clone / VM with activity in the expectation of sysprep.

  Power on the template / VM and check any activity of sysprep is past and keep it for 10 minutes and check again the event.

  I also note that a similar message when you use vicfg - hostops.pl put the host in maintenance mode;

  Free license of ESXi (also called vSphere Hypervisor) does not write operations using the remote CLI which is based on the API. This is an expected behavior and is not an error.   Evaluating 60A expired on my ESXi (5.0.0.623860) host which runs a couple of virtual machines. Virtual machines have been setup to autostart when the host said, but now the assessment is complete, the virtual machine no longer autostart.

  In addition, I ran a simple scipt using PowerCLI. This was shot issue a stop host command, which in turn stop the gracfully VMs, then stop the host: the script command were:

  Connect-VIServer -server mysESXiHost -User root -Password xxxxxxx
  Stop-VMHost mysESXiHost -Confirm:$false -force
  

  If I run these commands from the PowerCLI confirmation, I see the following error message:

  Stop-VMHost : 08/12/2012 17:01:52    Stop-VMHost        fault.RestrictedVersion

  What I read, I thought that current same ESXi of execution in the free license must always let these things happen, or am I wrong?
