GarageBand projects on external drive

Can I create GarageBand projects on an external drive and work on them from this external hard drive? I'm considering the purchase of a G-Technology 2 TB G-Drive for this.

The main reason to use an external hard drive: running out of space!

Thank you!

  • Could not open any project or external drive backup files

    Hello world

The way I got things set up, is that my final cut pro project has been saved on the external drive. Whenever I open it, it picks up from the external hard drive. Recently, I had a power outage that stopped my external drive and crashed my FCP X. When I turned things on, I kept getting an error that the FCP closes unexpectedly. I have the option to ignore or to reopen. I tried to open my backups, but I get the same error. Sometimes he was telling me to save it to the internal drive and it would actually open, but I get a lot of lack of links to files. My mac doesn't have a lot of space, so I need to be stored on the external hard drive.

I thought that maybe it's my sharing and permissions of the drive in the menu get info, then I have everything given access, but does not work. I tried trashing the preference of the FCP, but that did not work.

I have version 10.2.3 and on Mac OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan

Could someone help me please? I don't know what else to do.

If outside go up OK, can find you the library problem, right click on the library icon and select

Display the contents of the package.

You can post a page please?

  • GarageBand installed in external drive

    Hi all

I'm running out of disk space on my MacBook Air. But I wanted to install GarageBand inside. The normal procedure is, I move the Garabeband application in the Applications folder, and when I run it first, it tries to download audio files. Problem is that there is not enough storage to all audio files, so the process will fail to half way through. I tried to move the application on an external hard drive and run it from there, but I think he's still trying to download the audio files to my library in the local storage of SSDS. I've read a few articles and did some searching on Google that explains that once you have installed and downloaded files, you can create a symbolic link and move these audio files on an external drive. My problem is that I don't yet have a facility of GarageBand.

Please can you me the paths of standard files, so I can create symbolic links and I have garage band download the audio files on my external hard drive? Is there another process that would make me run garageBand?

    Thank you all,.

PS: A question side fast, I downloaded GarageBand for my iPhone and took the app in purchase to unlock everything. I love the app! Is it possible to get more instruments? Several agreements and tonal characteristics or these sequences of AutoPlay?

GarageBand strives to install in two places - open folder/library at the top level of your system drive.

Open the "Application Support" folder, there should be a GarageBand file inside.

And library should contain a folder "Audio" with folders for loops.

Has GarageBand already created partial files for this?

  • Error to imovie 11 project external drive

I try free hd space by attaching a mac format external hard drive and moving projects imovie inside the imovie holding down the cmd key project view. But since the project contains clips with built in audio effects, titles, etc. that is part of iMovie itself (at least I think that's the reason why) it gives error message - 43 say he couldn't move the ringing or the nail. He then shows the project as if it is moved, but restart imovie it is back to its original location again. Grateful for any idea that you could share...

Sounds as if you do it right, but just to be safe here is a link to instructions by AppleMan 1958.

How to move or copy projects and events on an external drive? (Version 9 and earlier)

Note his comment about an error

For existing projects, you can move it using these instructions.

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/#move7d66613

There is an error in the guidelines where it says drag the icon of the project to the icon in the event library. You should rather look for your hard drive icon in the project library.

Generally, the event takes more space hd project then you can consider moving events as well.

  • Mobile project to clips w / renowned external drive

What is the best way to move a project completed on an external drive?  When I use the project manager and try to recreate a link to the project it askes me for the name of the original file and not what I renamed the clips in.   What is the best way to achieve this?

Well, I just found something.  I hope I'm wrong with my assumption: I used the new project manager to transfer the files and unchecked the "remane to match the project' zone files and when I open the project earlier clips kept my change of name in the project window.  What is interesting.  So, basically, he returned the files to their original in the file structure name and kept my intact names in first.  Thus, it works well.

  • Please recommend what to look for in an external drive for my Macbook Pro

I don't have a lot of data, but I'm a writer and want a back up of novels and photos and photo projects. Can someone knowledgeable tell me what to look for in an external drive? I said to get one with a fan, but have seen highly recommended to those without a fan.

    Thanks in advance,

If portability is a requirement, such as this storage drives will do:

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/FireWire/on-the-go

If the HARD disk will live on the desktop all the time, your choice increases.  Here are a few more examples (and there are more):

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/FireWire/EliteALmini/eSATA-FW800-FW400-USB

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/FireWire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB

The fans are not always essential if the design of the enclosure is made correctly.

There are many publishers and other options are available, but OWC is a good seller with excellent customer support.

Note that anything that is stored on a disk external HARD must also be safeguarded if the data has the value.

    Ciao.

  • How can I share a GarageBand project with someone else?

I use the latest version (2.1) of GarageBand for the iPad and I wish I could share my projects with other members of my group, preferably without having to use a PC/Mac, as a kind of audio sketchbook for song ideas.  I would like the guitarist to record a guitar on a drum track and then share it with the singer to record the lyrics and bassist to record a bass line (which use GarageBand for iPad) and then move it for refining.  So far, I have found 2 options, neither of which made the task:

    • I share the song via Dropbox (or Google Drive), but this "flattens" the project and saves it to an audio file that does not contain the tracks of individual instruments.
    • I can export to iCloud as a project .band file (i.e. the individual instrument tracks) but it cannot share with others like iCloud allows no sharing! *

    * I could use a Mac or a PC to copy the file iCloud .band to Dropbox/Google Drive to share, and then other users should copy their iCloud drive (using a Mac or a PC) and import it in GarageBand on their iPad.  But there must be a way more simple that does not involve the use of a computer?

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

No, there is not. Without the detour to a computer you cannot interchange GarageBand projects between iPads, unless you were using all the same AppleID and iCloud.

You can only send audio files back, so one of you will have to collect separate tracks and mix them.

  • How to stop Windows Update by creating temporary files on my external drives?

Any ideas on how to tell Windows Update to stay away from my external drives?

I have several external drives I use for backup projects, archives and collections of major media. They are connected to my laptop very irregularly and rarely more than a few hours. In recent years they have been inundated with folders with long as names d84fa74b9585277339 as the seams related to Windows Update. I think it has already started on the laptop with XP I had before this one. Sometimes I see these files on the internal hard disk, but there are theyalways disappear after some time. On external drives, I have to delete manually. On an NTFS disk partition I use for backup, it's not easy, sometimes I have to take ownership of the folder. Drives FAT32 / exFAT is easy.

I guess people who have developed Windows Update realized that you can not trust USB or eSATA connected drives to be there when the cleaning is executed (BTW when cleanup runs it?). So I must have screwed up a setting somewhere. And I have to be very consistent in this because the same thing happens with friends and relatives, I contributed to the installation of Windows 7...

    Cheers, Willem

WYSIWYG. Windows Update download installers for updates on the drive with the most free space.

2 make it a habit to unplug all external drives are not currently used.

    3. disconnect all external disks before you run a manual check of Windows updates.

    4. run Disk Cleanup every 2-3 months or more.

  • External drive Seagate 3 t, added to Windows 7 x 64

    Dear brilliant:

I got a Seagate 3 use 1 terabyte external drive.) backup and 2.) offering an extra room for future projects. He is currently attached to my RESUME, Windows7 x 64 laptop. I have 6 G of Ram and a 650 (theoretical) Gig internal memory. 3T is obviously an exaggeration. However, it could allow do me a bit of his work / in the future, so I want to partition properly.

This is my problem: I downloaded the recommended software to partition the drive, run the recovery, Seagate etc (Acronis). I also downloaded the manual on how to do these things, and it was filled with words that I had to search and received an education. But I don't quite know the Seagate Assistant is necessary? It seems to interfere with the closing of my system fast and has layers of capacity/complexity that I may not need.

Anyway, will I be stupid? Or is the MSFT software currently on my machine all that we must back up my extensive files.

I think (?) I understand the need for the TPG v MBR and would have to get a degree (after some study) nothing to do with the business of BIOS, but it seems that my HP is all set to these historic things. Not just partition the Seagate with Windows? What are the benefits to using Seagate Assistant with the Seagate external hard drive, if any? And what pitfalls could I meet, in both cases.

It I said my peace. I look forward to great tips of your brilliant, as always...

    Valerie

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
Since you're using a 3 TB hard drive, I recommend to use the Seagate Assistant and select the type of GPT partition if it is equal to or greater than 2 TB. I personally advice not to create any partiiton as it will reduce the total useful capacity of the hard drive as being will take more space for stamp and other purposes of working OS - and if you want to create partitions, you are welcome.
Consult the manual of Seagate or contact Seagate support for operations related to the change in the BIOS settings (confirm is it necessary or not).
  • + Configuration LR to work out of the Photo files on external drive from the beginning very +.

    Hello!

I have LR is trying to see how the workflow.

I'm working on a project, I need to select the final images to use in the project of as a value of a year of photos.

My main interest is using LR at the moment.

I have all my files on an external drive.

+ First step is to import and then adding them to a catalog on my internal drive.

+ I select 'building intelligent insights' so I can work in offline mode

Then from there, the process of selection and Keywords, etc..

    Does this sound right?

~ If I have other projects, I would create a separate in my computer for each project catalog?

~ would be metadata that I added in LR only incorporated on the files I use LR?

    I want to say is,

If I was to go in my external drive from the desktop and place an image,

    What is metadata?

    Thank you!

    Sounds good.

I suggest working with a single catalog only.

LR does not change the imported originals - non-destructive workflow.

You can write changes to a sidecar XMP file: basics of metadata and the actions in Lightroom

  • Get CS3 to recognize the same project to another drive?

I have a couple of different external hard disks that have copies of my projects. Depending on what else is connected to my laptop the 2 drives can be named F, G, H, I, j, etc... The main external that I opened my project was named F:\ for very long. Now my laptop recognizes it as G:\. When I opened a project for this drive in the first, he asked where are all the files. When I try to rename the drive to the computer > FreeAgent drive (g) it's just renames it "FreeAgent drive F: (G :)". ", do not change the name of the real player. No matter what I unplug, restart the computer, etc.... the former F: drive is now recognized to G:.

In the first I can't find an easy way to get all the files that were previously associated with F: now to join G:.

Is there a way of to rename the F: drive through windows or within first first recognize that all of the files associated with the project are now on a G: drive.

I understand that I can reassociate the files individually in G: but that would take several hours.

Then you will have no problem changing the drive letter.

  • Starts the Powerbook g3 pismo of the external drive?

    Hello, all,.

I want to start my Powerbook G3 (Pismo) running OS 9.2.2 since the restore in one disc external hard drive. (PB knows he has a drive hard internal , but the drive does not read discs in there.) The computer goes up the disc - its own restore disk - when it comes starts with Macintosh HD as a player start, but when I try to use the restore disc as commissioning, starts to drive to go up, but the door opens. Even if I hold the door closed, the computer starts low to halfway and glued in place: first, the question mark flashing, then commissioning with Macintosh HD but then freeze it.

This happens even if I chose as the startup disk restore disk in the startup configuration panel. This means that I can't even begin to use disk utility to clean the hard drive of the computer. I did that with two other computers (reset several times), but those who had internal functioning disks. Is it possible that I can do this computer using the external drive as the boot? I read that the G3 Pismo that allows. I know I can get someone to take out the hard disk and smash, but I expect much prefer to destroy it myself. And I can understand how to remove the hard drive, but it seems to imply a boatload of maneuvers and some tools that I have, at the present time. I would not completely destroy the computer. It would be good for recyclers to be able to retrieve some parts, though they might be useful to someone.

It is possible that I can't boot from the restore disc in the external drive, but maybe there's something that I have not yet tried. It seems crazy that the external hard drive with the restore disc appears on the desktop with a normal restart, and I can choose as boot drive but can't seem to complete commissioning. If anyone has any ideas on this subject, I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you.

    Jenny

Are you trying to boot the PowerBook to an external optical drive that is connected to a USB port or your external drive connectivity FireWire?  If it is USB, that is the problem.  The reading of an optical drive connected by USB is one thing, but start since it is a different matter.  Unfortunately, your Pismo is not capable of this.

  • Disk utility does not see an external drive on my network

I'm trying to reformat the external drive that I use for backup on Time Machine, but disk utility does not see it. She appears in the Finder as a shared drive. I use OS x 10.11.6. Thank you.

Disk utility is not supposed to see the network drives.

If it's a USB, connect it to your computer.

If it's an Ethernet or wireless, using a utility specifically designed for this.

  • After installing macOS Sierra. There is no disk external drive appears on the desktop.

The external hard drive still works on macOS El Capitan, but after I installed the new operating system the drive doesn't appear on the desktop. But I found it appears on disk utility. How should I solve this problem?

    • I used the iMac (mid 2011).
    • I tried to restart but still problem.

Is the option to display external drives on the desktop yet activated in Finder preferences?  Check the Finder preferences.

  • Time Machine deleted messages on an external drive to the trash can on iMac are taking place on the hard drive?

I am struggling with a computer, try to empty the trash with 1million 300,000 Time machine backup files. It runs for two days now and won't install. At this rate, I'll need a week before my computer becomes viable. I don't feel able to go to the Terminal to do the trick. Also at this point, I'm afraid to stop the process again... Backups on an external drive of pigs 400 GB on my drive hard imac... I have so little room to work right now. I deleted some 200,000 files already yet the storage on my imac HD has not moved. The files in the Recycle Bin of the external drive really live on my hd now until they will be deleted if all goes well before Christmas?

I have a new computer to come next week so I'm wondering if I'll just reformat my entire hd in my imac to solve this problem... Any ideas?

You do all this in the Finder?

Time Machine has to delete the files from the user interface, normally "browsing Time Machine backup", navigate to the desired folder, and select the option "delete all backups of...» ». This is the approved way that should work.

If you are manually dragging the items in the trash of in a Time Machine backup, it can choke. Time Machine stores data with many levels of access control permissions & Finder seems to have difficulties to remove to empty the trash. In fact, I think that the TM drive has limits to prevent normal users to change data on this disk.

Personally, I think your safest option is to abandon the process, restart, erase and reformat the Time Machine drive. Who will lose all history backups but again in a clean condition seems to be better than trying to manually prune the Time Machine data. Time Machine removes old backups when it is full - so you shouldn't really need to intervene like this anyway.

Wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

P.S., each disk has its own "basket", so doing drag items should not fill your Mac startup disk. Maybe the operating system is out of memory, try to process all the files, exit other applications & see if that changes anything, you may have to wait just if you want to avoid to abandon the process.
