Generic copy of XP and my product key

I currently own a copy of XP Home upgrade. When I tried to reformat my hard drive that I kept getting an error message that says XP couldn't recognize my PCI Express slot. After searching the Web for ideas that the general consensous was to get a generic version of XP sp3 and use my product key to activiate it. However, this does not work. I currently have XP working with the free 30-day trial. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Barupi,

The installation CD and the product key must match in these areas:
1. Windows XP (Home, Pro, Media Center, Tablet) edition
2 channel sales and distribution (full retail, retail upgrade, OEM)

I tink you are trying to activate a retail XP Home upgrade installation with a XP Home OEM product key - do not go to work.

If this is your situation, a better solution would be to wake SP3 in your CD to upgrade existing, a process that makes a new working installation CD with SP3 integrated.

nLite and Autostreamer are good utilities to get this done.

  • After update Win OS is not genuine and my product key is not valid

    Hello

I have a Toshiba EA60 - 156 computer equium laptop using the preinstalled software. Suddenly after running auto-updates to update, windows think now its not authentic and my product key is not valid. After trying to check online, I was told to contact Toshiba after checking the key online. Online my copy is authentic, but windows still considers that it is not.

    What should I do?

    Iain

I raise reading Microsoft license Validation could be responsible for such messages.
This tool distributed by Microsoft through its Windows Update platform for some time considered the factory image Toshiba installed an illegal copy of Windows XP.

I think that to avoid popping up this message, you must remove this License validation tool.
I think that the idea is also to contact the service partner in your country. Maybe they have detailed information on this issue

  • I installed Vista in a Virtualbox VM and the product key does not work, how to fix this? I use the same product key supplied with the computer originally.

I bought a Dell Precision T3400 of Dell Financial Services and it came with Vista Business installed.  I installed a new hard drive and installed Vista in a Virtualbox VM by using the recovery disk that came with the computer, and the product key does not work for activation.  I get a message that says I need to activate Windows, but he says that the product key is not valid.  How can I fix it?

    Thank you

If you have reinstalled the OEM of Vista Business copy on the new hard drive, as Bill says you can't also use it in a virtual machine.

You can only reuse your OEM of Vista professional copy if it is no longer used on the computer. Do you have what operating system installed on the new hard drive? It was an upgrade copy or complete the license?

If you used a license to upgrade to another edition of Windows to replace your copy of company then Vista Business license is still in use (for upgrade) and you cannot reuse it in your virtual machine.

However if you replaced Vista business with a copy of the full license of another edition then you are able to use the OEM copy in a virtual machine, but only on the same computer. You must use the product key from COA to the label on the computer. The product key is put in the copy OEM cannot find the SLIC table on the host motherboard. You must use the phone activation from within the virtual machine. Click on start in Vista Business and typing "slui 4. Do not meet the audio guests until it asks you if you want to speak to an agent. Explain that you have completely replaced the OEM copy with a copy of the full license of the new windows and now want to use the OEM copy in a virtual machine on the same computer. Agent will then give you the activation string. Remember that the virtual machine is not transferable to any other computer.

  • Record and the product key of Windows 8

Unfortunately, my husband has one person to put up my new PC for me and I do not know now what is my windows product key and whether or not it is registered.  How will I know (the PC came with Windows pre-installed).

If it was built by an OEM System Builder, then the product key must have been connected to the computer on a certificate of authenticity. If this isn't the case, it could be on the envelope that came with your PC. Otherwise, you must contact the manufacturer and ask him if he is or consider purchasing a product key for your installation.

    How to buy additional keys:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click System

Click on see details in the Windows Activation

Click on the link: buy Windows to another computer

    http://www.Windows.com/buy

Yes, you may be prompted to go through the installation routine with just the web installer of 5 MB, but you don't actually have to download, simply to purchase and the product key will be presented to you in the Upgrade Wizard (you also a copy is sent to your email address).

My sisters thinkpad XP pro is unstable and it has lost its drive.  I can reinstall using my xp pro disk and its product key?

    I fixed it!

I couldn't work at all Internet Explore.  I finally installed Superantispyware from a USB pendrive and it ran in safe mode without network.  So I ran Malwarebytes and ccleaner.  After a reboot, everything works great again.  I could install Microsoft Security Essentials and get current updates.  After a smart defrag it turns really well now.

I was able to make a recovery cd set too.  It will be just as good as if I he burned them on a new computer?  I mean can the data used to make these CDs get corrupted over time?  This laptop is 6 years old.
Thank you for your willingness to help.

  • Floppy disks to install Windows 7 and the product keys are exclusive to each other?

Floppy disks to install Windows 7 and the product keys are exclusive to each other?  Or can I use a disc that I have to restore the windows on a second laptop and activate it with a different product key?  It is not a question to find out how many users I can put in place, but whether the disk and product key are mutually exclusive.

As long as the product key matches the edition, it should work perfectly, no exclusivity.

  • My copy of windows is not genuine, apparently, and my product key contains an invalid character

I use this computer for over a year with no problems, but when I started it today, my product key was apparently not valid. It contains either one I have either a 1, neither of which is a valid character. Is that what I can do about it?

If you encounter problems reading your product key on the label, try a flashlight and a magnifying glass.

    My understanding is...

Of the 36 Latin and Arabic, used numbers in most of Western Europe
languages, 24 seem to be used for current product codes and 12 are not.

    The 24 used are:
    2346789BCDFGHJKMPQRTVWXY

    The unused 12 are:
    015AEILNOSUZ

According to police and the used letter cases, this reduced set is usually
without ambiguity, but knowing that the members it certainly may be useful.
Microsoft usually uses uppercase for printing / display of the distribution, and
It doesn't look like they have been specially selected to minimize the chances of
confusion and also, I believe, to avoid accidentally generating
offensive - looking sequences of characters. The model is easier if you look
the characters not used like this:

  • I have a purchased copy of CS3 for Mac and want to upgrade to CS5 (I heard it was an upgrade option). Should what version of CS5 I download the upgrade? This is the full version of CS3 and the product key is available.

I want to upgrade my version of the suite CS3 for Mac CS5. I heard that it was an offer of upgrade that I have an official version of the CS3 with product key. I was wondering what version of CS5 should I download and would cost how much the upgrade? It's as simple as download a trial version of the suite CS5, tapping my CS3 product key to receive the upgrade reduces and the discount even exist? Are there now that any other upgrade offers? I don't want to upgrade to CC.

Adobe has only sell the latest version of the Creative Suite, which is CS6, so you can't buy CS5 more. Upgrades are also only available to CS6 CS5 so that CS3 would not benefit anyway.

I'm afraid you're out of luck.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx: laptop startup problems and lost product key

My laptop is not starting. I get the message "device not found Boot. Please install the operating system on your hard disk "." I tried the steps listed on the HP website (step 1: Hard reset, step 2: restore default BIOS settings, step 3: hard disk Test, step 4: reconnect the hard drive, step 5: System Recovery), but the problem persists.

Please guide me in the following things.
    1. What can be done to fix this? I got control of the laptop of one of the centres of local services. They said that there is a problem with the hard drive. I'll have to get the replaced disk. I have no other option?
    2. I bought my laptop in 2009. It came with Windows 7 Edition home premium. Now, I don't have a product key to reinstall the same copy of windows 7. Also, I am not able to connect to the laptop because of that I won't be able to retrieve the product key from your laptop. The sticker on the back of the laptop is not more readable. It hits the major options to retrieve the key. Is there another method by which I can retrieve the key? So far, I used to restore my computer laptop settings every time I need to format my laptop.

    3. the only thing I have with me are recovery disks (3 in total). These will be of any help in order to get the windows installed on the new hard drive? Other suggestions pls?

Looks like a bad HDD. Your product key of WIn7 which carried out the sticker on the underside of your laptop. You must get the HP HP recovery or 3rd party disc to restore your system to the rear. And there's a good chance your HARD drive is bad and must be replaced.

  • HP 15-do2onr: disc no. 8.1 Windows included in the package and no product key

I just bought my HP 15-d020nr 15.6-inch Touchsmart laptop a few days ago. Windows Update has been downloaded a ton of updates in this regard. Now, all of a sudden, tonight I discovered that after these updates are underway since it made my Windows 8.1 as "non-active" and it does NOT ALLOW me to activate it. Microsoft argues that it is used on another computer that is NOT TRUE. I have a laptop and a desktop computer and my office is using Windows 10. I've never used Windows 8 or 8.1 never before I bought this laptop. So what is everything?

If there is a supposed to be a locked Windows 8.1 disk with my purchase of this laptop then it isn't here. Microsoft requires a product key and I do not even have the key for the original Windows 8.1 install on the laptop. What should I do? Looks like someone else is using MY COPY of Windows 8.1.

The call from Microsoft is NOT the answer. The last time I called the words of a problem with their software, they cut me and NEVER me refund my purchase that they decided that I couldn't use. If someone does not help me get this valid operating system then I will contact a lawyer because I'm sick and tired of the Microsoft tyrants. HP should have given me a disc 8.1 Windows with the laptop and the valid product key.

    Creation of HP recovery media

HP Recovery Manager is a software that offers a way to create a recovery media after you

properly configured computer. HP recovery media can be used to perform a recovery system if the

hard drive is damaged. System recovery reinstalls the operating system of origin and the

software installed at the factory and then sets the program parameters. HP

Recovery media can also be used to customize the system, or to restore the image if you replace

    the hard drive.
