• How do you get the dictionary for InDesign CS 5 to learn a word like "mm" as in dd/mm/yyyy

  Sometimes I can't get the dictionary in InDesign CS 5 for windows to learn the word I use on & more.  The Add button located in front of the add user dictionary is disabled.  How can I activate this button & save something like "mm" in "mm/dd/yyyy?

  I tried, but it turns out that the problem was that I did not notice it stopped at modal words & phrases.  Once I changed the preferences of spelling, the problem disappeared.

  You will probably have a response from someone at Adobe (but I'll still stick my two cents)

  As far as I know, the process to get the SDK you follow is correct, but they just closed all programs pre-release and opens on a new platform.

  It seems that not all of them have been transferred through yet, and the InDesign SDK is one of the tail enders.

  I had access to the SDK program and it seems to be cut being transferred, so I guess everyone is in the same boat.

  (so far as to pay... then again, you are likely an answer from someone @adobe, but I don't think that there is a direct link between being pay a partner and to have access to the program SDK.) However, to take full advantage of the SDK, it is really convenient to be able to track through in the debug version of InDesign. Who was limited access to partners, I think always it is... you might be able to access the program from pre-release InDesign... who knows? You can always ask!

• How can I get a really big InDesign (30 MB) file into a PDF file less than 10 MB?

  It is a document of 20 pages, including dozens of pictures and a few vector graphics which are .pdf or .ai, respectively. All are links, not integrated. I created the document for printing, but now need a version to display on a Web site that has a maximum size of 10 MB.

  I tried a lot of things, including:

  • Choose export to Adobe PDF format as "smallest file size".
  • Size reduction in all related photos Photoshop. (FYI, they now range from 1 MB to 4 MB)
  • Save the PDF as a PDF of reduced size.
  • When you export to PDF, compress images to 72 dpi. (This made me the smallest size I could get: a little more than 18 MB)

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Once more, since it's only for the web, try to save copies (file > export) your files HAVE as hi-res JPG, then using the jpg files in a copy of your InDesign file. Make your PDF and see if the size is acceptable. It is a faster way to test that juggle the vector files to reduce points of control, etc.

• Cannot get the Illustrator or InDesign trial to open

  I installed InDesign and Illustrator CS6 successfully but can not get the program to open it. I'm running Windows 7 and whenever I try to open, it says: "Adobe InDesign has stopped working" and forces me to close the program. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and restart the computer, but nothing has worked. Suggestions?

  If something went wrong during installation, which will be displayed here. Perhaps that will enlighten us.

  Alternatively, you can verify that you are running with sufficient permissions. You probably because you have successfully installed, but not hurt to check.

  You could also try to create a new user account and then install.

  I would like to get the list of all the globals of InDesign. (I recently using the Sublime text 2 with the plugin SublimeLinter and JSHint editor and stop worrying about undefined variables.)

  I have all the names of document class comes the OMV (thanks Jongware!) file and now just want to other globals (app, output, file, etc.). It is not that much, but I do not understand why:

  1. why not app and other countable property of the impression of the global object in the example above? and

  2. is it possible to retrieve the names of property and method not enumerable?

  Hi Jeff,

  (1) provided that this = .global $, app property should be listed in your .. for to loop. It is strange that you do not see this key. On my platform, "app" in $.global is true. You should check this:

  alert ($. global.reflect.properties);

  (2) no enumerable properties of the global object are usually methods (simple functions such as exit), or object as filebuilders. By definition the ... for in loop will not pick up these keys, but you can catch them with:

  alert ($. global.reflect.methods);

  I have about 200 other InDesign documents that use this script and except two they all work. I can confirm that this file exists, it is not used by another application (the only application that accesses it and use it on this computer is InDesign Server) and the permissions are the same as all the other InDesign files that are on the box.

  What else could cause this error?

  FW-

  The error number is the constant internal C++ named 'kFileDoesNotExistError '.

  You should be able to the single step even on InDesign Server using ExtendScript Toolkit.

  Even without a bit of output to the log file should show you the statement of the exact problem.

  When you wrap with try / catch, you can (or not) find more information in the exception object.

  Browse all properties by using something like the code below.

  Of course, of $.writeln only makes sense with a debugger ESTK, otherwise you'll be wasting just of cycles CPU.

  Note that the problem may not be in the indd file - for example have you checked all images href attributes in the XML?

  To dig deeper:

  On a Mac I'd use dtrace or Instruments to Watch calls file system for error codes.

  I installed a few items of Indesign in my application that was built with the Dps 2015 portal but unfortunately the animations will not work. Y at - it something special to do this work or should I work with Muse for animations? Buttons seems to work quite ok.

  Native InDesign animations are not supported in DPS. You can use in5 to convert them to web overlays.

  If you go on the site of Pearson/view to look at the examination, you are interested, you have the option to PAY for certain examination questions for the study which will be useful to isolate what parts of the program, you need to study.
