Get Windows XP to new computer replacement

My CPU of the card mother got desktop fried in a power surge (despite a surge protector!) after a Blizzard of Halloween.  It's a computer, I built 2.5 years ago.   I like XP and you want to continue using it.  I plan on the construction of a replacement computer and would like to install Win XP on it.  I know that Win XP is related to the particular computer.

Should I buy another copy of Windows XP, or is there a way to convince Microsoft to allow me to 'transfer' of my Windows XP operating system on the replacement computer?  I remember do this once before, (for a small fee for a new disk), but the phone number, I wrote in my notes is more service can't find a running number.

Thank you in advance for your help!

If yours is a copy the retail Windows, Yes, you can do this. No problem and no conviction of Microsoft is required. Just install it.

But if you saved money by buying an OEM copy, you're out of luck. The biggest drawback of an OEM is that its license it permanently binds to the first computer on which it is installed and is not transferred to another computer nb.

my computer with windows broken and now my new computer does not have windows, is it possible to get windows on my new computer from my old?

    Hello

You tell us what type of license you have.

If the former was preinstalled, NO, you cannot transfer it.

    Read this information:

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

  • Get Windows 7 from one computer to the other.

I installed and activated a new copy ot 8 windows on a new computer, I built for the games, but W8 wouldn't some of the games.  The same games work well with windows 7.  Can I remove the installation of Windows 8 and install windows 7 in "swopper" on a 2nd computer on which I would then Setup the windows 8?  That is to say, I have an active windows 7 I would delete a computer and install it on the new.  Would be - this will then be allowed to activate?  Thanks for your help.

If Windows 7 or Windows 8 comes preinstalled with any one of these computers, you cannot move the license.

Versions of Windows OEM 7/8 are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

  • How to get windows 7 ISO for computer laptop w/win 7 preinstalled, upgrade to win 10 in July, recently replace HD / reinstalled win 10

Dell Inspiron N5010, windows 7-64 bit preinstalled when you purchase. one of the first free updates for windows 10 in July. recently replaced (fatal) of hard drive and reinstalled windows 10. I'm trying to get an ISO of windows 7.  This has proved to be quite difficult. my attempt to replace my hard drive using the old product key failed because the site does not accept the keys to the pre-installed versions.  If I understand it well in an article I read it says that when I upgraded to win 7 to win 10 product key remained the same. However, when my hard drive has been replaced and windows re-installed 10 this product key has been replaced with a digital license.  I have 3, possibly 4 questions: 1) has my product key now a digital license? 2.) If Yes, this digital license can be used for windows 7 ISO? If Yes, where can I find the digital license? (4.) If none of the above, any suggestions how I can get a copy of windows 7 Iso? I am very frustrated and ideas.

    Thanks VeeW

When you upgraded from a previous version of Windows or get a new PC preinstalled with Windows 10, what has happened is that the hardware (your PC) will get a digital right, a unique signature of the computer which is stored on the Microsoft Activation servers. The real Windows 7 or Windows 8 license you were using previously will be exchanged with a key to the diagnosis.

Whenever you need to reinstall Windows 10 on this machine, go just to reinstall Windows 10. It automatically reactivates.

Therefore, there is no need to know or get a product key, if you must reinstall Windows 10, you can use your Windows 7 or Windows 8 product key or use the reset function in Windows 10.

If you are prompted to enter a product key, click on "I don't have a key" and "do it later".

Even when you switch to Windows 10, you can return to Windows 7 at any time. Get Windows 7 reinstall media will be dependent on certain factors.

1: you may contact Dell to recovery media:

2: Download and create a bootable, then reinstall using the product key on the COA certificate:

  • Get Windows 7 on another computer

I recently bought a ThinkPad Edge 14 and with it a copy of the 64-bit Windows 7 preinstalled.

Seeing that I use based on unix systems for work, I was wondering if I could wear somehow the copy of Windows 7 that came on the ThinkPad Edge on my desk at home.

    It would be a possibility?

    Thank you

When you buy a computer with Windows, you get an OEM license. The license OEM Windows belong to the computer and not you and cannot be legally transferred to a new computer. If the computer license die with the computer or in the case where you are selling the computer the new owner will receive the license as well as it belongs to the computer.

  • How to transfer the full retail Windows 7 to new computer?

I have a full retail Windows 7, I want to install it on another computer and transfer the license (activation) to the new computer, so it expires / turns off on the old computer. How can I do this?

I asked this elsewhere, but only people tell me how to 'break' the activation, I don't want to violate the law, I want legally transfer the license to the new computer.

The best way is to make sure that the license is no longer in use on the old computer. You can do this by formatting the machine. Another thing you can do is to uninstall the license:

    Click Start, type: CMD
    Right-click on CMD
    Click on run as administrator
At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs - upk

Press enter, this will uninstall the product key of the computer and to the evaluation mode, you are now free to use it on another computer. If you experience problems, try to activate by phone:
    Activate Windows 7 manually:
    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person.

The mode currently of the installation process, you will need to be activated or it will go into reduced functional mode. You have the option to install another version or edition of Windows or get a product key for it. Alternatively, you can put the system as follows:

    To format drive:

    1. Insert the DVD of Windows 7
    2. restart your computer
    3. When asked if you want to boot from your DVD player, do it.
    4. Select your language, click Next.
    5. click on "repair your computer".
    6. Select the operating system you want to repair.

    7. click on the command line

    8. at the command prompt, type: FORMAT C: /.

    Press enter on your keyboard

    Type y for Yes

    Press enter

Please wait while the drive is formatted.

Type exit to close the command prompt, and then click farm to shut down the computer.

  • Can I install my same copy of windows on my new computer build?

So I just build a new custom computer. I have a new 64 GB drive hard solid state that I wish I had ONLY my operating system. I also have my old hard drive in my new build with all my old files and the operating system on it (I also cloned it on an another HARD drive so that if something was wrong, I have a backup of all my files). But anyway, my question is if there is a way to ONLY my my my old HDD SSD new operating system without wear on all programs (because with all the other programs, its not going to adapt). I realize that there is a small chance that it is possible to do that, so my other option would be to just do a fresh install on my SSD with my windows of my old computer disk. I called Microsoft technical support regarding my problem and they said, is that the only way to a successful installation is to buy a new product key, because otherwise it will not work. They said that the only way to get around the purchase of a new key is to uninstall windows on the old disk and then you will be able to use the key on the new SSD. The only problem with this is I have no way to boot the old disk, as this would require completely rebuild me my old computer which I just can't do (I already tried to start on the old drive in the new computer). Anyway, if you guys know anyway which would solve all my problems, that would be great, because I can't afford to buy a new windows product key.

    Thank you

Support for Microsoft people are correct. The only option is to not use or attempt to start the drive on the new computer (of course you can use it as a data drive) this will allow you to use at least the license on the SSD.

  • Activation of Windows on the new computer laptop

I bought the Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack (3 licenses). I installed it on 2 PC and a laptop computer. I replaced since my laptop and tried to install Windows to the new. It will not be activated and will only allow me the option to call an automated system which provides for no alternative but to tell me that it is impossible to activate. How can I talk to someone to fix this. I don't want to buy another license when I have already paid for 3 and only have 2 now in use.

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    5) stay on the phone (do not meet all the automatic guests) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) clearly explain your question to the support person

If your copy of Windows is an OEM (delivered in a cardboard cover, as a single disc) then no. - the license was related to the motherboard of a fist on which it was installed.

If it's a complete detail of the product (fancy box, two discs), then Yes, you can install it in the new - activate by phone.

Try to use this tool, it's called Windows easy transfer, I don't know if it works with an external hard drive or if you want to just manually, you can transfer the file using the method of copy paste...
