Group residential frustration

I just bought a new laptop and I use the homegroup on our other PCs and laptops and it works fine. However when goto join homegroup on the new laptop there is a new residential group appears that i suapect my teenage son inadvertently created. How can I remove this to be exposed and get the new laptop to discover the correct residential group? My son refuses there messing around with the new laptop but the undesirable homegroup is referenceing one of its names in connection. This computer is running 7 Home premium with Mcafee security. This could be a problem of Mcafee firewall?

From my experience, I recommend the suite: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Leave-a-homegroup - use it on all laptops / PC you must leave the homegroup and try to set a new and join it.  That should fix it.

I had trouble connecting my computers thanks to the homegroup, I decided to delete the Group and create one with the pc on the other, the old people, but he still sees the old homegroup that does not exist!

I tried to restart the pc, stop waiting and then restart and a complete reboot of the network (modem and router).  Any other suggestions on how to get rid of this group residential ghost?

Your windows 7 PC will have to be in a "task force" or "Work network", using the same name as the "old PC". The old systems cannot be members of a homegroup on 7.

I had a group residential, put in place with an old computer is no longer used. How can I do die so I can put in place a new homegroup with another computer as a server/administrator?

    Hello

As long as a single computer is configured to use the homegroup, other computers should still be able to join. Homegroup is not dependent on the computer that originally created it.

If you want to recreate if you have fair to all other computers is to leave the Group residential then they will be able to create again.

When I go to network and sharing Center it tells me that I have only a single network (let's call it ABC say) and that it is a home network. However when I click on homegroup it says always "home group is not yet ready. Please, wait a few minutes and try again later "."

  • Group residential access from other computers is read-only.

Two machines, home network, both running Win7 Pro 64.

Both machines have multiple accounts.  On the machine at the bottom are the accounts under the name of Tom, Dick and Harry.  (Not really, but they are good examples, yes?)  On the machine of the floor are the accounts under the name of Tom and Dick.

Tom is the main user on the machine at the bottom.  Dick is the main user on the machine on the floor. Tom & Dick should have permission to read/write to all files in the home group (two machines).  Harry, as an ordinary member of the residential group should only have read permission.

If I right click on the Tom's Documents folder on the machine of dDwnstairs, I see the following permissions:

Homegroup: read; Tom: Owner; Dick: Read/write

Yet, when Dick tries to access to the file of the machine on the floor, Dick read only privileges.  Specifically, if she tries to drag a file on homegroup--> Tom (BOTTOM)--> Documents folder, Dick Dick receives a "Destinatino folder Access Denied" dialog box that says: "You must be authorized to perform this action."  Dick can see and navigate to the folder without problem.

If Dick logs into his account on the box at the bottom, it can read/write files of Tom as expected.

Is there a way to associate the account in the box on the floor with the account on the box at the bottom, so that file permissions are identical regardless of the situation?

Correct, both accounts must be related. And I'm also unclear on the declaration of help text, maybe I'm missing something.

Regarding the setting up of a working group, you are right that the steps are VERY similar. The difference is when you're on a homegroup, the system uses the credentials of home group and not the credentials of the account from your system to connect to a share. So in theory, if you remove all systems in residential group and configure the network in the way that you said in your original post, you should be able to share normally with the permissions that you set up.

Just remember, when you're on a homegroup, the system uses a called hidden user accountHomegroup$. When it connects to a share on another computer, it is not identified asTom, it connects asresidential group $. This is obviously different from a working group that uses the credentials of the current user to connect (Tom).

  • Group residential windows 8 and 7

I would like to create a homegroup in windows 8 and attach it from windows 7. Is there a problem? Or I have to create the homegroup in windows 7 and join computer windows 8? Or there isn't any solution?

    Hi friend

I use it and I have no problem to open a file to win 8 in Windows 7 or opening a file from Win 7 to 8 Win.

You don't have to change a lot of settings to get the homegroup to work.  Everything that do you is go through the steps.  You configure the homegroup on one computer first and then you "join" residential group of any other computer Win 7 or 8 to win using the password created on the first computer.

USE THE PUT OPTION MICROSOFT HOMEGROUP IN WINDOWS 7 AND WINDOWS 8!

OPEN THE CONTROL PANEL AND OPEN HOMEGROUP!

    This will help you.

  • Group residential vs network?

What is the difference between using HomeGroup versus network and what are the advantages/disadvantages of each?
P.S. I currenty have two computers using Windows 7 and the other using Vista Home Premium.
The HP VISTA computer will soon get Win 7 HP as well.
    Thank you

It seems to me that default HomeGroup opens all your libraries (except documents) to other computers in the group.  For example, if your 'Pictures' library includes records 'My images' and 'Public Pictures', these two will be open to all.  You can choose to delete an entire folder, of course, but the default is to expose them to the group.  The network, on the other hand, by default only shows the public folders to the rest of the network.

  • When connect you to my group residential-why do I receive a message indicating that the bidirectional support is disabled

When I'm connected to my home group, so I could share a printer. Everything was wonderful, but I get a flashing message indicating 'bidirectional support is disabled. • Group residential market, having problems with non-windows devices

I have Windows7 Ultimate on my desktop PC.

I'm Tournai on homegroup and join my laptop running Windows 7 Pro.

I have a printer wireless on my home network, but also a Synology NAS of DS213air for backups.

My laptop has no problem after turning on homegroup.  I was able to continue to send print jobs to the printer network and is still connect to the NAS.

However, on the desktop, print jobs sent to the printer network has failed.  I removed the printer from my devices and tried the card again.  Windows cannot find the network printer by itself, however, I was able to map the printer again in hand - type the IP address directly.

The connection mapped to my NAS in Windows Explorer became too broken.

If I open the DOS command screen and try to ping the NAS server with its network name, I get host not found.  If I ping by its IP address, I get the answer.

I deleted the mapped drive broken to the NAS in Solution Explorer and was able to re - the map again to hardcode NAS IP address.

However, my backup software is losing its connection to SIN at random times, sometimes 3 hours after the start of a backup, other time 12 hours after the start of the backup and transfer 700 + GB to the NAS.  For the past 3 weeks, no backups not completed.

I failed to identify the reason that Win7 Ultimate has ceased to recognize the names of my two non-Windows devices network after you have created the homegroup.

    Any help much appreciated.

I found the problem, thanks to your clues in ipconfig/all.

I thought only I had a direct link between the office and my combo modem/router/AP to access.

I forgot a month before, I took the dust of an old router to share the LAN to my desktop PC, so I might have extra wired LAN for a separate docking station.

I have not reconfigure this 2nd router to act as a switch... that is why the office became a different prefix than intellectual property.  I disabled DHCP on it and moved the cable from the WAN port to one of the LAN ports.

Networking is as it was before.

  • Group residential remote station sees only not all drives on the primary computer

    Hello

I have a Windows 7 Homegroup work with a desktop and laptop.

Since my laptop I can see and access the various folders and files on the main drive of my desktop computer. However, I can't see or access various other drives, I have attached to my desktop.  I do not use the notion of "libraries". I need access explicitly the drives and folders.

SOLVED!  Readers attached to the main unit (office) (for example, h :) were not visible under homegroup in the portable navigation pane, so I guess that they could not be found when I had no access (in Word) via \\{MainMachineName}\h:\{RequiredFile}.)

It turns out you need to omit the colon after the drive letter, while to a local drive, you need colon. Simple as that!

Can't see how to disable "Response required" flag!

  • With Wake-On-LAN to reactivate the Group residential access to a computer to sleep...

I have two laptops with Windows 7 (Pro 64).  I had both the join HomeGroup and could access shared folders.  I noticed that when a computer "sleep" disappears from the homegroup.  There is a note on the page of the homegroup password: "computers that are turned off or sleep does not appear in the homegroup.»  Elsewhere in TechNet I see information on WOL (Wake-on-LAN) of Windows capabilities on hardware that supports, and I selected "Allow this device to wake the computer" in Device Manager > network adapters > LAN_Adapter > power management tab.  But without success in waking a computer sleep to access remotely via homegroup.

Does anyone know if remote activation is feasible and how to activate it?

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Wire or wireless?

If it wireless it will be the current wireless hardware does not work do not support this action.

Thread might or might not work depending on the hardware.

While many office computers would wake on network traffic, a lot of laptops would be not because they all plan material manufacturer to save energy.

There is nothing more that we can do about it in addition to checking the suite (not the magic packet) tab in the power management of the network card.

It is one of the issues that are still outstanding (hardware wise) in the entry level network business.
