HA 2 node cluster

Dear all,

We must give the solution for our customer with a high availability 10VMs. is the main requirement. We cluster vmware design two nodes. recommended cluster with 2 design nodes? Please advice...

Thank you

Lasantha.

I build multiple clusters of 2 knots in the past with no problems. Note that when you perform an upgrade to ESXi you'll turn temporarily without protection for your virtual machines... Because if you do an upgrade this host will probably be in maintenance mode and will not be used as a target for failover. This is why many people are recommended to go with 3 being the minimum. However, two works very well.

    original title: SQL Server 2008

We have SQL Server 2005 cluster (3 node cluster) and if we improve this nodes to 2008 R2, can the databases associated with the named instance remain to the version of SQL Server 2005, I seem to disagree with this notion, but still need to validation of the pro.

One way I can think of to achieve this scenario changes the compatibility level to SQL Server 2005 when the node has been upgraded to SQL Server 2008, so we can upgrade databases to SQL 2008 as and when the vendors provide support for this version.

  • SCAN in a 4-node Cluster

    Version: 11.2.0.3
    Operating system: Solaris 10

I've only worked in 2-node RAC. One of our customer has 4 node RAC in 11.1.0.7. We will switch to a 11.2.0.3 Setup.

My client asked me a question which I couldn't answer with 100% certainty. We will have a normal SCAN which is solved through our Solaris DNS. SCAN name will be resolved to 3 SCAN VIP.

When we have 2 nodes, there will be 2 SCAN listeners in one single node and other 1 on the second node (2 SCAN VIP), leaded to a single node and 1 SCAN VIP, leaded to another

When you have a 4-node Cluster, I guess there are 3 listeners SCAN running on 3 different knots (randomly) and a fourth node should SCAN any listener running on the subject? Am I wrong?

3 personalities of SCANNING can be sealed to public interfaces only at most 3 knots. Right?

    Yes...

If this is the case, there is not much advantage to have a 4th node. Right?

    Laughing out loud
The clusterware has two types of resources and OF CLUSTERS
Local resources depend on the physical resource to be online. (e.g. Local listener)
Cluster resources depend on the cluster (IE can be anywhere in the cluster) (for example SCAN earphone)

The number three was chosen, not because of the number of hardware resources, but for reasons of availability.
Three SCAN will ensure that your cluster will always be available for your customers, even if some nodes in the cluster goes down.

Another pupourse to use the listener SCAN:
To the new Cluster feature based on the strategy and management of the capacity of the work that it took to do SCAN.
Policy for the management of databases are deployed on or several pools server must Access the database by using the SCANNER. The use of SCAN is necessary because the political management database instances can run on different servers at different times; It is not possible to use a virtual IP (VIP) address to connect to a particular node or instances of a database managed by the policy.

As you go from 11.1 to 11.2 I recommend that you use the functionality of the Pocly-Based Cluster.
You can use the Admin-Managed database although I prefer that you create a RAC database using the database Policy-Managed... which makes the dynamics and the automatic (i.e. managed by Clusterware) creation/deletion of instances. You will use a POOL with a knot... later you can add more nodes in that POOL... Oracle Clusterware/PAP automatically create undo/redo/instances on the new nodes added to this POOL.
All this is transparent to your customers of Oracle.

  • 11g Question: Stand alone database vs single node cluster

We are about to create a new 11.2.0.3 database that will eventually become a 11.2.0.3 in cluster database. Our host servers are hardware IBM pSeries AIX 6.1 running. We will use just Oracle Clusterware and not IBM HACMP. We also plan to use ASM for database storage. The plan is ultimately to have a 2 or a 3-node cluster, but currently, we have only an AIX server available to us.

My question concerns our initial approach to the installation.

It is preferable to install the Oracle database as a stand-alone database first and then convert the database to a RAC cluster as soon as we have the material for the second node? Or would it be better to create the cluster with a single node and install and configure grid Clusterware for a single node cluster and then add the second node when the material becomes available?

I apologize if my explanation is not very clear. Any notice will be considered and appreciated. Thank you.

If you are planning to ACTIVE/PASSIVE here database my option:
    {message: id = 10138477}

If you are planning in the future use a RAC database:
    {message: id = 10142640}

If you plan use CARS in the future, you can install Oracle Clusterware without worry about licenses.
Oracle Clusterware can serve to protect any application (reboot or otherwise on the application failure), free of charge, if one or more of the following conditions are met:

  • At least one of the servers in the cluster is allowed for the Oracle database (SE or EE)
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#CJAHFHBJ

If you ARE database Oracle or EA (i.e., not one SE), you can install the product Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC (EE to buy the RAC Option) in a node later you can stretch clusterware adding additional nodes, and more database instance.

You do not need to create a RAC database, you can create a single database (i.e. Non-RAC) on OH software Oracle RAC using DBCA.

Although I prefer that you create a database of CAR Policy-Managed database... which makes the dynamics and the automatic (i.e. managed by Clusterware) creation/deletion of instances. You will use a POOL with a knot... later you can add more nodes in that POOL... Oracle Clusterware/PAP automatically create undo/redo/instances on the new nodes added to this POOL.
All this is transparent to your customers of Oracle.

Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a stand-alone server (Oracle Restart) is an option only if you plan used to one node. If you are using more than one node... Start with Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster (Oracle Clusterware).

  • Replication Failover clustering & Hyper-v on a two-node cluster

    Hello

We have two identical servers.  One to use as a main server, which houses two virtual machines.  The other should be used as a back up in case the main server is not somehow.  We planned on using a solution of third-party software to back up our virtual machines and launch them in the event of failure of the principal server.  However, we discovered just gave the failover clustering in Windows Server R2 2012.

We have tried to set up a cluster 2 nodes, with our virtual machines properly replicated to the backup server.  Excited by the present, we tried then to simulate failure of the primary server (by pulling on the cable network).  We were a little disappointed to find that the backup server is not automatically run virtual machines.  We did a survey and read than a solution of two nodes requires storage space for additional network (in addition to our two servers).

I wonder if that's okay?  In other words, a two-node failover cluster requires separate network storage space.  If this is not correct, can someone point me to a set of instructions to correctly configure a two-node failover cluster that will automatically launch the virtual machines on the server backup (in the case of a failure of the principal server).

    Thank you

    Hello

    vmstat-s

This will give a more detailed overview. Search for active/inactive values and used swap. If active memory is close to the total memory and you have a larger amount of used swap, then you might have the memory pressure.

If the Exchange is not used much, and you have the right percentage of inactive memory, then linux could easily swap memory without a performance problem. In this case, the pressure of memory is very likely.

For a report very detailed on the use of single process

    PMAP pid - x

M and the press allows you to sort by memory use. If you are using pmap on bigest processes, then you should have a good starting point was that your memory has disappeared.

  • Tip 3 - ESX4 running unusual performance of Hung VM - node cluster...

    Hello community,

I use useful overview to a question we've experienced in our production environment on a cluster of 3 nodes that had a virtual computer running on it.  The virtual machine is used only for printing isolate us applications running together on similar servers.  The technician who was working the issue being reported a number of things, but I wasn't there so couldn't say what has been done.  The end result was that he had to perform a "reset" of the virtual machine, because it could not connect via RDP and the console does not accept the CtrlaltDELETE.  VMware tools is updated. It will be later tonight so I'll tell you about him for more details on the issue and what diagnosis was made.  The problem occurred this morning to 01:30-02:30 am on the 'C' host (host are 1 a, 1 b, 1 c).  Seeing as just two days ago, I reached my VCP, I thought I'd like to look deeper into the problem.  What I found was a bit intriguing.  There is no change somehow to the recenetly cluster other than adding some VM makes.  At the time of the issue, that nothing has been performed we could very well connected in vCenter.  I also logged on to the console and found it EXTREMELY laggy.  This is partly due to the fact that we use vCenter here in our home office and all Distribution Centers to meet the vCenter here so I don't know that it's because of WAN.  Anyway, finding that he was still on which I just decide to look at some statistics and performance counters in vCenter.  What I've discovered, is that between the time where the problem occurred in fact there is a pretty big spike in all activities related to the disk, memory, network, and CPU.  See the attached images.  I thought it was very interesting, and anyone could build a helping hand in perhaps seeing what may of caused this type of spike in any army of this group which would be very useful.  All virtual machines are supplied with 1vcpu and only 4 GB of memory.  We use the Solutions of HP Lefthand VSA for shared iSCSI storage.  Appreciate any comments!

Given, you have iSCSI storage connected to the ESX servers, it is normal to have spikes on the CPU, disk and network if you use normal NIC (not iSCSI HBAS). When ESX disks on storage iSCSI via NETWORK card normal access, it access to content on the network and uses the CPU to process the iSCSI packages. If you have iSCSI HBA, you shouldn't see peaks of the use of the processor like this.

  • Cluster of P2V existing Windows 2003 two nodes exchange 2007

    Hello

I want to know how I can create a cluster of the P2v of my production windows node cluster on a host two unique esx4i. It is only for purposes of laboratory and test. The reason why I've done a P2v is I want to imitate my production environment, and as production data.

I've done a p2v of my node Exchange 2007 cluster two production Windows 2003 64-bit.  How can I reconfigure disks (quorum, data) for the cluster?

I've seen a lot of e of documents telling me to remove the discs and re create, but I want to keep the data.

I would like to know if someone has done with success the P2v cluster.

    Please notify.

I understand you want to keep the data - this guide will give you necessary for nodes in vm configurations and storage relavent - if you want to keep the two nodes in the cluster on separate from ESX boxes, then you will need to maintain a quorum and the shared data on the physical SAN LUNS and allows to connect to storage RDM - if they all exist on the same ESX Server I shute evrything down - P@V primary node with the disk data and shared quorum, then P2V system disk of secondary nodes - in both cases follow the configurations described in the guides and you should be good to go-

  • P2V one resource to Cluster MS and not to the cluster nodes

    Hello!

We are looking to do a P2V on our file servers, which are all 2 node A / P SAN connected MS Cluster. I see articles where people work to convert the cluster nodes themselves and then have the MS Cluster running on ESX - this isn't what I want to do.

I've not seen any (covered by a research brief) mention of any attempt to make a virtual server Cluster MS. P2V conversion Looks like it is the best deal if it worked.

So I FS1 as the virtual resource with N1 and N2 as nodes.  Can I run a P2V of FS1 crowd for a disk system to capture all the action, then just RDM the SAN LUNS to the VM FS1 newly created? Or am I stuck with the creation of a third node, clustered, expelling the original, closing nodes cluster services and then rename or uses DNS to point to the FULL FS1 domain name?

    Thank you!

I know that sounds a good idea but any time
I tried P2V ING I ended up regretting the MSCS clusters. For the file
& Print sharing there is some direct negative side effects but for
The SQL cluster, it is very messy. You can not P2V the virtual server name
(FS1) directly, you must break the cluster and migrate the
individual nodes. But as I said it's a bad idea in any case.

If these are just some cluster file server then the easiest thing to do
is just export actions (they are just a registry key), build a new
clean the VM, attach the existing data as a RDM disk and import the
registry keys. Once your happy that it work, rename the machine as
the former name of virtual node.

    Hello

SAM has always been officially supported only with only 2 knots. This is the max that will support the cluster in a box (CiB). However, I heard of 8-node MSCS in the whole of boxes (not the IPC). Official support still probably will not exist.

  • vSPhere VM without protection in cluster HA

    Hello user of VMware

I have a very strange problem with my vmware ha cluster and nfs.

vSphere is installed on two servers HP ProLiant DL380 Gen8

vCenter runs on a HP ProLiant DL160 G6.

NFS and iSCSI is already running on a HP ProLiant DL180 G8

In my data center, I have configured a cluster HA and DRS, on two cluster nodes that are mounted the iscsi and nfs data banks.

If I create or move a virtual machine for the data nfs virtual machine storage will be unprotected, but if I move the iscsi data store the virtual machine, the virtual machine will be protected.

The virtual machine could not be vSphere protected HA and HA cannot attempt to restart after a power failure.

I found many users with these problems and I tried the following:

-Disable and enable the HA option

-Delete cluster nodes, cluster of delete, create the cluster add nodes again.

-Remove the old VirtualCenter and installed a new windows with the latest version of vCenter Server

But nothing helps, does anyone have an idea?

    Thank you.

If you have vswitch0 with 2 interfaces vmk. management and one for vmotion and nfs?

you have configured LACP or something similar on the physical switches? If so you must select the IP load balancing hashing type...

This is perhaps the reason why the cluster think the cluster is not high available

It could also be a known error of vmware: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2020082

Does anyone have any advice or learn more about me.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Of after your description it seems that it is only a single domain configured which has wls_forms tuned to 3 knots.

In this case, you can't break wls_forms on node3 to have its own server admin.

My suggestion is to stop wls_forms on node3 and configure a new area dedicated to node 3 with an administrator of the server and the managed Forms Server.
