Hard disk ThinkPad Advance Dock using an ultra bay adapter
I just added an extra hard drive in my Dock in advance. I initialized and formatted. Can I copy files to it. Everything seems fine, except that I can't start the computer with the hard disc in the dock. It hangs at startup Lenovo screen - is yet to get to the point where she tries to load Windows Vista.
No idea how to overcome this? It of a pain to have to remove and reinsert the hard drive, every time that I start. Thank you!
After spending four hours on the phone with support from Lenovo, install updates (under their orders) which weaken other programs, install the new docking station, they sent, still no resolution.
Called my guy from dell support. He had the answer for me on top of her head. No research, no digging through the KB articles.
I write the resolution here in the hope that it will help some other poor soul who knew my problem.
Go into the BIOS. Go to Config. Go to USB. Disable the option to boot from USB devices.
Computer now starts fine with hard drive installed in the docking station. No problems. Now, if I can fix it just my other programs that will is broken...

Hello Sir,
Charan my name & I'm from the India.
I have a HP Pavilion P001tx.
Yesterday, I created a virtual hard disk (.vhd) file by using the disk management window...
I named the vhd as "chred" file and 200 GB is allocated to the... located in my C drive.
Before this "chred.vhd" was created, I have 600 GB of free space in my drive C on 900 GB...
Now, I had only 400 GB left... I don't actually need this file 'chred.vhd '...
How can I remove and recover my 600 GB of free storage?
Thanks in advance!

It doesn't look like do you in fact mounted, so whatever you delete the VHD file chred.vhd and space will be available. For more information on the withdrawal and the removal of virtual hard disks, see this article.

[S1670CDS] "Cards bootable component snap": on an external hard disk
Hello
This time, I would like to make this Satellite 1670 CDS booting from an external USB hard drive.
The BIOS setting "bootable add-in cards ' in the section 'Boot' seem to indicate that it is possible to boot to PCI devices.
Then, I want to buy a PCI USB 2.0 controller to do.
The motherboard is USB 1.0, so I don't know if a USB 2.0 controller is working, or if it will limit the possibilities in USB 1.0.It is quite disturbing: I don't remember if there is any free PCI slots inside the laptop, and even if there is, there is no place to put the USB ports accessible from the outside (sorry I have no words to say Hmm).
But I'm ready to cut the plastic of the laptop box to create a space where the USB ports may be accessible. One of the purposes of the present is backup data on another drive, if drive crash HARD to my laptop inside.
Finally, do you have someone has it already done this sort of thing?
Do you really think that this is possible?Let me know ;) I have the saw to the left hand!
Sorry, that I have to disappoint you!
A PCI card is only for desktop computers, it does not fit into the laptop!
You can buy a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card to connect the HARD disk, but you cannot start it!
You wrote that your drive HARD internal fails, the only way to run Notepad is to change the internal HARD disk and install an operating system on it!
In my opinion is the best to change the internal HARD drive (a little is available on ebay), install the OS and more HARD disk space, you can use an external USB HDD!

When you use "Defragment your hard drive" the process starts but seems stuck and won't end evn after several hours. How I can remidy this? I was already able to defragment successfully.
Hello
How do you know that never, it ends when there is no GUI on Vista for Defrag?
in vista, the defragmentation process works silently in the background
Unfortunately in vista it does not provide a GUI to show progress as it did in xp
to do this, you'll need 3rd party defrag programs
read the comments on these FREE below defragmentation programs and choose the one that you prefer to use
http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/adiskdefrag.html
Auslogics Disk Defrag is a disk defragmentation tool that supports FAT 16, FAT 32, and NTFS volumes. It defragments supply with demand automatic defrags when your system is idle and advanced options to customize the files that will be défragmentées.

UltraDefrag is an Open Source disk defragmentation tool that offers a quick Defrag, using a pilot based on the kernel. It offers a simple with a cluster map display graphical user interface, as well as command line interface and scheduling option
http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/puranfree.html
Puran Defrag is a Disk Defragmenter easy to use which offers start defragmentation, automatic defragmentation, intelligent directory optimization, background (low priority) operation and optimization of free space. Other features include integrated planning, automatic reboot or shutdown after defragmentation and integration with Windows Explorer to defragment individual files from the context menu. The free version is identical in functionality to the standard version (shareware), but it is limited to a private, non commercial use
http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/iobitsmartdefrag.html
Smart Defrag is a Disk Defragmenter automatically keeps your hard disk space does not become too defragemented, which may cause slower disk performance. It works continuously in the background while your computer is idle and requires no further user for basic maintenance intervention. The program also includes an option of manual defragmentation as well as support for the regular defrags and with optional file system optimization.

Greetings,
I spilled a drink sweet in my X 200, fence it beyond all repair. The X 200 hard drive has ONLY one disk HARD password bios I created and you know. To try to recover my files from hard drive of the X 200, I removed the disk and inserted into my T60. When I turned on the T60, I got the usual HARD disk password prompt. However, when I entered the password (all tiny, no special characters or non-English speaking, and which I know is quite OK), I had the symbol of the incorrect password. I turned off the machine and repeat this process. After the second attempt, I saw the password prompt with a closed hand.
Later, I followed a procedure recommended by Lenovo to clear the password (do not think that I am allowed to post a link): enter the password followed by a space. That did not work.
I wonder if HARD drive pasword protected drive of the X 200 is somehow related to this particular machine and can not, as I had always supposed, be exchanged in another machine and accessible by entering the correct password.
I also wonder if I can have permanantly me locked out the reader by making too many attempts "invalid."
(Edited to add additional information and to make the more descriptive subject that it was originally).
LongtimeTPOwner, welcome to the forum,
Sorry to hear about your situation remove the password must be possible in another X 200 or even another ThinkPad at the same time system for example, T400, T500,... etc.
A consideration that you would like to take a look is the password parameter in the menu BIOS password; If it is set differently on the T60 of how this has been put on the X 200 it could present problems according to the password used, especially if it's "special characters".
Edit; typo

Using BCD for dual boot Windows 7 and Linux on two separate hard disks
I scoured Internet for weeks and weeks trying to answer this question with still no success whatsoever.
What I want to know is:
Is it possible to use the BCD to boot Windows 7 and Linux, with Windows 7 installed on the hard drive of 1 and Linux installed on the hard disk of 2? If so, how do you prepare in advance Linux, IE Grub must be on the partition root of Linux or should it be on the second hard disk MBR and what are the bcdedit commands necessary to add an entry for Linux for the start menu in Windows 7?
Could be read more the real problem before burn.

Performance of hard disk - space allocated in advance or growth?
Hello
I'll using virtual machines mainly for the software development and test. Disks hard comments are stored in a single file on the host for reasons of portability. What do you propose to use in which case hard drive space: more (much smaller size, would somehow worse performance) or préallouée (significantly more large size, supposed to have somewhat better performance).
Sacrifice space hard disk of the host is worth the performance gain when using prealloue virtual disk?
Thanks in advance.
in thin and thick hosted platforms are terms inappropriate - ESX different works.
Ask = growth and flat prealloue = sparse.
If you want to learn more about the details check out my http://sanbarrow.com/vmdk-handbook.html notes
in general I recommend
Apartment type of content that changes a lot
type of sparse for mainly static content
You can't say that flat always surpasses sparse
If the size is not serious prealloue in most cases is a good idea
Flat discs have a major advantage: they are easier to repair and require no maintenance.
Rare records are difficult to repair and need maintenance. So don't forget do not reduce them regularly - there more often dynamic, the content of the vmdk is
related: here's a comparison of one-piece monolithic = compared to split formats

Photos can work using just an external HARD disk and leave my only intern?
Hello
I am using v1.5 Photos. On my Macbook HARD internal disk fills up very quickly. Fortunately, I have a nice external 1 TB drive and I would like to:
(1) move all my photos on the external drive and direct Photos program so search the folder on the external HARD drive to find all photos.
(2) when I import pictures from my camera in the future, that the Mac them automatically in the folder of photos on the external HARD disk and not keep fill the space limited on my Mac small disk internal.
Is this possible? I remember that I was able to do it with iTunes years when I used a Powermac with 4 x internal HDD of various sizes. iTunes has been able to see the music on each disk files and present them to me as a single list of iTunes.
I'm not interested in using iCloud at all, I have everything on HARD drive and memory sticks and I am satisfied that, as it provides all the storage I need and I only use a computer for my work.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Yes, it is possible to keep the pictures library on an external drive. Make sure that the unit is running at the launch of photos from your Mac.
See this discussion for detailed instructions of another user.

I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!
You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."
You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.
Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.
Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

Re: Satellite L850 - 0C9 - cannot use USB3.0 external HARD disk
Hello!
I am looking for help from you guys
because I can't use my NEW SEAGATE USB 3.0 drive HARD EXTERNAL 2 to with my labtop (L850 - 0C9)My labtop has 2 blue USB ports and I guess it's USB 3.0 and I checked it manual.
but when I tried to copy data to the hard disk and after 1 minute, then he continues to display the message "the destination you specified does not exist. It happens every time.
but I found an interesting point of it works fine with usb 2.0 port so now I use with this port.
It shows that the hard drive is not a problem, but my laptop is in my logic.
so I've updated almost all drivers and firmware support page vaissaille intel usb 3.0 driver.
but it is showing the same message as before.
Anyone know how to solve?
Have a great Easter party anyway!

Can Qosmio G50 - 11R - I use two hard disks?
On the Qosmio G50 - 11R
Anyone know if it is possible to install two hard drives in this laptop?
As far as I know, you can only use one HARD disk in the Qosimo G50 - 11R.
But you can check this, if you remove the second HARD drive cover (it's the only screw) and there may be a second HARD drive connector or not, so I think.

Satellite A300 - how to use two hard disks?
My Satellite A300 came with two 200 GB hard drives (drives C and D). What is the best way to use the D drive? Now I have nothing about it. If drive C fills the computer automatically switches the D drive?
A basic question, I know, but the manual provides no information on this subject.
Hey Dearborn,
> If drive C fills the computer automatically switches the D drive?
No, D: drive will not be filled automatically.
When installing the program, you will be asked which drive they will be installed. So you can choose between C: and D: drive. In general there are no rules the use of two hard disks. You can do what you want.
In my opinion the best is if you install all the programs on C: drive (first HARD drive) and save your private files such as photos, videos, documents, etc. on drive D: (second HARD drive). Its advantage is that if you need to reinstall Windows at all times, these files on the second HARD drive will not be deleted. ;)
