Hard drive inaccessible because of permission settings incorrect

I have another hard drive attached in my PC, due complicated access, I change its settings, authorization and unfortunately I accidentally erased his authorization, now lost the Security tab in the properties and that hard drive access is denied.

Can someone help me with this problem? is it possible to add the tab security and permissions to access this hard drive again?

Thank you.

Try this:
1 restart in Safe Mode
2. log on as an administrator
3. click on start.
4. type the three letters cmd in the search box.
5. press on Ctrl + Shift + Enter
6. click on "run as Administrator".
7. type the following commands:
takeown /f X:\ /a /r /d Y {Enter}
Cacls X:\/e/t/c/g everyone: F {Enter}
(Substitute the correct drive letter for your external drive X:\)

  • External hard drive inaccessible PX1269E - 1 50

    Hi all

I hope that you may be able to shed light on the functioning of the curious of my PX1269E - 1 50 external hard drive (500 GB). Up until recently, the drive works perfectly.

The malfunction is the following: the hard drive is recognized by Windows XP SP2 when I connect it by USB, causing the virtual CD-ROM drive - one that is related to the protection of password from this particular type of external hard drive - for pop - up. In addition, the item "Toshiba USB 2.0 Ext. HDD USB Device" appears in the list of hardware in the Windows Device Manager. Unfortunately, this virtual disk contains no data, saying: 'Please insert a disk in the L: drive' and not (as he did before this curious malfunction) give me the chance to type the password to activate the actual data partition.

In short, even if windows recognizes the hard drive, even a virtual CD installation for her, the real data drive never appears, nor make any other sign of life from the hard drive. My best guess at what caused this dysfunction is as follows:
    1. the disk password protection is turned on
    2. I converted his original FAT32 to NTFS disk; the drive still worked after conversion
    3. a week later, I have once again turned on the unit and activated the device with the password
    4. I started to copy some files. After a couple of files, Windows has returned an error "delayed write".
    5. After this error report, the hard drive is the comatose state described previously entered

Do you have a suggestion or an idea of what could yet give me access to the disk?

Thanks in advance for any information or idea is welcome! Best,
    Bonkie

I still don't know what exactly was wrong. However, I found a great tool to remove the virtual CD that is responsible for the protection of password, which proved to solve the problem. The disadvantage is that this method kills also all data: s. tool "CD to drive HARD Convertor", specific for discs with password proetection Toshiba, can be found here:
    PCID = 8 http://www.techsupportlive.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_A=view&parentcategoryid=9& & nav = 0, 8

As a side on the PX1269E - 1 50 disc note: I can't say I'm really happy with this type of hardware failure. A hard drive that dies just is unfortunate, but understandable. However, a software defect in password protection that disables the disk is rather sloppy and shouldn't be possible.

  • Hard drive saturated because of the deleted pictures?

    Hello

Apparently, my hard disk is full. It was because of the pictures, so I deleted all the photos app, but it changed nothing. I have even less then 1 GB left!

    The basket is empty.

I already used a software called disk inventory X to find out what was taking so much space and he said: 62 GB of photos...

And before that I deleted everything, iCloud (50 GB) was not yet complete.

I hope someone could help me as soon as possible!

    Thank you very much

    Sofia.

You empty the album recently deleted photos?

  • HP Recovery repartition the hard drive to factory default settings?

    Hi all

I'm looking to repartition my hard drive to separate my data in program files.

I was wondering if I ever run HP Recovery, will this repartition the hard drive back to the factory settings by default, which eliminates the data newly created partition?

    Your reactions/experiences would be appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Whether you use the Partition recovery or your recovery discs, both will delete all custom partitions that you may have created.  A better option to allow you to recover the operating system and any custom partition you created would be to use a disk imaging software.

Additionally, make sure that you have created your recovery disks, as Re-partitioning the HARD disk can sometimes affect the function of the recovery Partition.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite L755-154: waste of space of HARD drive due to the second partition

    Hello

I bought this laptop so far everything goes well.
However, there seems to be 2 partitions on it, the first is the C: drive that is around 300 GB, but the 2nd partition D: which is again about 300 GB, which has only the recovery drive?

This seems to be a waste of hard drive space, because I bought it because it had a good-sized hard drive.
Now, my question is that I have to make a record of this partition recovery, and then re - format both drives and install everything from scratch?

Also, the recovery disc has all the drivers for all components of the laptop, as well as Windows 7?
As I bought this form Amazon no windows disk or recovery disk was provided, only the windows 7 serial number.

    Thank you

    > Now, my question is what I need to do a recovery from that partition, then re disc - format both drives and install everything from scratch?

In General, you should always create a recovery disk.
If you have created a recovery disc then this disk will help you set the laptop back to factory settings. This means that all the HARD disk should be formatted and would once again create all partitions. This means that you will get these two partitions again.

If you want to move the free space in partition D to C, then you will need to use a software of partitions. I use GParted its great tool

    > Also the recovery disc has all the drivers for all components of the laptop, and Windows 7
    Yes

    > As I bought this form Amazon no windows disk or recovery disk was provided, only the windows 7 serial number.
See above, that you create this recovery disk!

  • New hard drive for my T-61

My hard drive in my T61 crushed and none of the info could be found.  I have to replace it.  Never had to do it myself.   Here are my questions:

    (1) all of these discs are the same size.  .  .  because I can not find them linked to the individual books, as you batteries, etc., are mat that is if I order one Western Digital WD3200BEKT Scorpio Black Mobile Hard Drive - 320 GB, 2.5 ", 7200 RPM, I'll be able to spend just to the old and slide in the new?

    (2) the machine came with Vista and I think back with Windows XP.  What of all drivers lenovo, etc., who do everything, work on the old system.  I'll never be able to get everyone to install them and how do I find them.

    (3) I don't know anything about the partitioning of the drive, or if it is still necessary. Will be the new installation of windows take care of this automatically?

    (4) any other questions you can anticipate a new facility like this.

    Thank you.

    Hi gcsimpson,

    (1) not all readers of the laptop are the same size, however, you discovered is a compatible player. It will slide in like a baby

    (2) you can find all drivers lenovo from their site. You can either download them manually here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67853.html. Thinkvantage system update:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html

    (3) Windows installation disc will give you an option to partition the drive. Frankly, I do not share readers unless I intend to dual boot my system with another OS. In my point of view, it was not considered necessary.

    (4) don't forget to change the hard drive SATA AHCI to compatibility settings in the BIOS, otherwise Windows would not detect your drive. In addition, the procedure is a good guide on installing Win XP on T61:- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992

    It will be useful.

  • turning point in xp and vista together on 2 hard drives

How can I add my old hard drive to my new vista pc.
    He has xp on it

    Hi mikbre72,

You will first need to physically install the drive in your new pc vista case, connect the power and data cables. However, before that you need to set the jumpers on your old hard drive to a 'slave' or self select (glance at the top of your hard drive to see which jumper settings are available) (see: http://www.ehow.com/video_6030_install-second-hard.html and http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/install-hard-drive.htm .)

Once you have installed the reader go to the start menu and click computer to verify that Windows can see the hard drive that you have just installed. Also check that there is a drive letter, for example D, E, F etc. If it is not then go to control panel and click the administrative tools. Once in administrative tools, click on the ' computer management option and then click on the "disk management" is If you then right click your drive containing XP, you'll see a menu drop-down. Look for the option to change the drive letters, and then to assign a drive letter to the drive.

Now even if your drive has been installed you still not be able to start XP. This is because the details of your XP disk have not been added to the boot record (BCDEdit). To do this, you have two options. Or, insert your Windows Vista DVD into your DVD drive, reboot your PC and start the Vista installation. (see this link to my website: http://www.winuser.co.uk/windows_vista_faq/32_install_windows_vista.html ) When you reach step 9 in my Windows Vista installation guide illustarted, click on the 'open system recovery tools' and do a startup repair. This should locate your second drive and add it to the boot menu.

A second option is to download EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 ) installation of this application and run it. Once running open registrations to add/remove and manually add your XP disk to the boot menu. See this link for more information on adding an entry: http://neosmart.net/gallery/v/neosmart/EasyBCD/1_70/Add-Remove+Entries+-+Windows.png.html

When you restart you should be offered also a menu that lets you choose between Vista and XP

  • No access to an external hard drive

So I plugged my external hard drive in my macbook to move some files on it but it says "the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." I clicked on initialize and he said: the hard drive is uninitalised and Mont and partition are grayed out. I ran the option of first aid, but he only said: the operation completed successfully. I am aware of that my external hard drive works because it is blue is lit and I used it a few days ago and it worked fine. I also plugged into another usb key I have and it works perfectly.

Is there anyway for me to access my files on the external hard drive? I really don't want to lose my photos and files!

The external hard drive is a tough drive 320 freecom.

the light means power can get to the case, not the drive past any integrity checking. If the drive is older it may break or it could have been failure, or requires 3rd party software to allow full access, if it is NTFS formatted for windows and you use it on a mac.

If you do not backup your data may be missing. If you start the boot disk process, you have already started to remove the files and more you try using that drive less whatever it is (if any) can be recovered.

Freecom offers guarantees of 3 years on their mechanical hard drives but offers no guarantee with recovery of lost data (no company only)

    http://www.Freecom.com/warranty

If your player is longer than 3 years its not rare that its failure and should be replaced with a new unit.

In the meantime, you can try a 3rd party solution such as Disk Warrior or rescue for Mac to see if something can be saved, but still no service company forensic or data will always claim that they can do it with any degree of certainty to recover your data.

  • I need to reformat my external hard drive to use with Bootcamp?

I intend partitioning very little hard drive space because I have 255 Gb solid state. I bought a seagate drive, because for the price, it has the best transfer rate. I intend to help if you are using windows. It would be nice to spend my money on a single external use. The drive must be reformatted for mac. I'm sure that means I can't use it for both, but I hope that I do not understand how boot camp and the work of partitioning. I hope that I can just reformat external use for mac and I can also use it in bootcamp with windows.

If anyone knows how that might unfold, I would be grateful!

    Thank you

    J

The Boot Camp drivers allow Windows to read the disc, but not write installation of MacDrive in Windows will provide write access.

  • External USB 3.0 HARD drive does not work on USB 3.0 port

    Hello guys,.

I have a problem with my external HARD drive and the problem is that it is USB 3.0 feature does not work in my computer.

The curious thing is that it works very well in the SATA port or a normal USB 2.0 port.

Y at - it a failure with the HARD drive or is there something wrong with my motherboard (M5A99 fx pro r2.0)?

    Thanks in advance.

From my point of view of the few is not HARD drive problem because the HARD drive operates in a USB 2.0 port.

I m wondering if you tried to update the USB 3.0 driver.
Have you tried this HARD disk in another computer / USB 3.0 ports?
I think that its worth a check.

Also, I read on some problems of USB 3.0 controller from different manufacturers.
Sometimes, it might be possible that some problems of compatibility between different devices may arise.

  • Satellite 855D-S5120 - wouldn't boot efi file on the HARD drive

I had no problem to boot from a usb port or a live cd in grub or gummiboot, but I was not able to do the same with the hard drive.

The NVRAM settings are not persistent. I was able to set a uefi shell using the two Jean efibootmgr or significant, but they are reset to zero when you restart.

I was able to initiate gummiboot out of USB by renaming the BOOTX64.efi file

My efi partition is fat32 and marked as boot-able. I understand that some implementations of UEFI aren't complete implementations by the UEFI specification. which I think is the case here.

Since the NVRAM apears does not have to be definable. I need to know where and what this implementation is looking for hard disk. Someone at - it the answer?

    Hello

I'm not sure that understand your problem.

You are installing a U/EFI OS on the HARD drive but is unable to do start?

I myself 13.04 successfully installed Ubuntu and Fedora 18/19, the start of UEFI.
Of course, the installers to take care of the difficult things for me so I know little about these details.

Please specify what you want to achieve, and let's see if I can be of any assistance.

  • Satellite Pro A120-10W - function keys not working not not from the cloth of hard drive

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro A120-10W under Windows XP Pro SP3, and just had my hard drive erased, because of virus. Everything seems to work fine, but I can't use function keys to change the brightness etc. I looked in various forums help however most seem to give answers for Windows 7 or vista. 7
    Can someone please?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

As you can see in other threads, you need special drivers/tools for the keys FN get their work because there is no standard Windows driver for these keys.

In any case, you must download the common Modules like Akuma wrote. After installing the key should start working again.
You can download the tools on the official website of Toshiba.

If you have problems with the installation or it succeeded, just after a few comments. ;)

  • The recovery disk is sensitive to the size of the hard drive?

    Hello

I just bought my new laptop Satellite.

I have owned one of these puppies before and so I know that the Toshiba recovery disc is a ghost image.

What I did is erased the hard drive clean because it's a piece of the circuit city showroom and t couldn't trust what was out there.

I put Ubuntu on the laptop. I want to put Vista on a VM.

As you can imagine, the virtual machine would have much less space than the actual size of the hard drive (200 GB) but of course, large enough to accommodate the installation of vista and all the goodies of Toshiba.

With this all said, the image will be cough, hanging and allows me not to install during installation of the ghost due to the different size image in space? So say the laptops hard drive space, it is 200 GB, but I only allocated 50 GB virtual hard disk.

Now I don't have a version of the class my program of schools Microsoft vista legitimate business, but I would use the home premium came with the laptop and use that Toshiba had provided me.

Then, going to work, or it will not?

    Thank you for your comments.

    > I wonder what the disc labeled "Toshiba recovery disk' which is come with my new laptop that I just bought actually is then.
Don t confuse boyfriend new Toshiba with Vista OS notebooks are equipped with HARD drive recovery option. But it also contains an option to create a recovery DVD in case the HARD disk will fail.

If you buy an old series laptop with Win XP, then it might be possible that you don t have the option to drive HARD recovery, but instead, you've got a recovery disk.

As you said above; the recovery disk contains an image (I doubt it s a ghost still image) that contains an operating system Windows, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.

    Good bye
