  How is formatted the external hard drive? Is the file system on the drive Mac OS extended (journaled) or other system files?  Is the drive directly connected by USB or similar, or is it a SIN?

I tried to shut down the computer and restart, but this does not solve the problem.  I did some research using the Apple Hardware Test, but the instructions say insert the Applications install disc 2.  Unfortunately, as I can't insert a disc, I can't deal with the problem in this way?  Any suggestions?

  I caught a HDD of 80 GB on old computer my gf, and I thought I would use it to replace the 40 GB hard drive in my ThinkPad R51.  There is not really important info on my old hdd, so I just created a factory recovery disks, put on the new hard drive (both are PATA) and ran from Rescue and Recovery.  After completing restore to factory state all the new hard drive will do is Rescue and new Recovery charge.  It does not load Windows.  Is there anything else I need to do?

  Shot in the hip here, but ISTR that some versions of R & R restore the image of 'restoration' in HD, then you restart to R & R and run a restore it to complete the restore of the rest of the car.

  Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

  If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.

  A single hard drive will not be shared on network.  All other players share very well.  Don't have a homegroup installation because I also have XP machines.  The drive is on a windows machine 7.   I checked all the settings.  Of course, all the machines are on the same workgroup.  It's just 1 road.  The other 5 on this computer share very well.

Black screen, "No. Bootable Device - Insert Boot disk and press any key". It will accept only the recovery disks that I made after the purchase. Starting test ok, ok, hard drive memory test failed 'Boot Drive not found'.  If it helps, caps lock is flashing.  I saw something in a forum on the reset or reinstall the hard drive but no explanantion how.  Can you help me?  And can you give me a ballpark figure on a new hard drive or better to buy a new laptop?  Laid off in Michigan, hoping to be able to get the unit up and running without having to consider.  Thank you very much for your help!

  If removing and reinstalling the drive does not resolve the problem, then the hard drive is dead.

  I don't know what that means though the flashing light of caps.  This could be something more serious.

  A new hard drive will cost about $57.00.

  I hope the recovery discs, you did work on it as well. They should but no guarantee.
