Have recently noticed icons on the desktop "oscillate" or shake a moment; What is going on? Is this a problem?

I recently noticed some icons on the desktop, shaking for a moment from time to time, which does not seem to be connected to everything I do. I noticed mostly with the icons for a few programs I downloaded recently (Switch Sound File Converter, WavePad Sound Editor and RecordPad sound recorder), even if I used these programs in the past without problem and did not notice anything unusual to suggest a virus. Does anyone know what this means? Thank you!

Hello

Step 1:

You can try to start in safe mode and check if the problem persists. Only basic files and drivers needed to run Windows are started. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic as possible cause device drivers. To start in safe mode follow the link.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2:

If the problem does not occur in safe mode then boot to the desktop in normal mode and check that the third-party program is causing the problem. To configure your computer to clean boot follow the link below.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: When you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7 article to start on normal startup.

  • All icons on the desktop have turned to photo viewer and cannot open these programs

I recently had my computer up to date. Everything was fine until I put my memory stick in the laptop and tried to download my back upwards. Now, when I turn the laptop on the icons does not load and are all stuck in photo viewer and I cannot open programs at all. Can anyone help please, thank you

Original title: icons on the desktop

I'm not 100% sure but I think that you are having a bad "file extension association. This is where the default program to open a file is incorrect. In the case of your office, these are all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) and the. LNK Association was by mistake coupled with Photo Viewer.

I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you have selected the photo viewer (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in the Photo Viewer as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by the photo viewer and often use the icon Photo Viewer to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unASSOC for its ease of use.

You can get a copy of my OneDrive here. I used to send people elsewhere to download a copy, but this page is more in addition to confusion with misleading ads to download this and this computer of powders of snake oil "fixed".

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

I have icons on my desktop which are now using the shortcut.  I can't remove the stay of icons on the desktop and you can not click on them, and I can't seem to change their return.  How can I fix it?

    Hello

    Try a reboot.

A simple change of name should do the trick, unless of course you use a utility that blocks the efforts.

    Hello

You did changes to the computer before the show?

    Method 1
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

When you run an .exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7 computer file, the file may start another program

Note: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article: back up the registry in Windows 7

    Method 2
The issue could be due to the virus on the computer. I suggest you run virus scanner online by using the Microsoft safety scanner.

Note: when you do an antivirus online, you will lose data that are affected by the virus. Microsoft is not responsible for the loss of this data.

  • Unexpected icon on the desktop called Null0 and have no internet connectivity

my fathers partners last week computer has been infected by adware, which was easy enough to remove safely. But last night he told me his return (he thinks ebay.co.uk is at fault?). In any case, when I had a quick glance, there is an icon on the desktop, titled null0. # .rar, which he had never seen before. Brilliant orange white white outline of the letter X. The computer does not connect to the internet, unable to open the system restore and the pop ups are quite common. Anyone can shed light on what I can do? Also, there is little to no information around on the net to give me an overview of what this thing is and what is going on this machine.

Because it is only today, do a system restore. Pick, say, your restore point 2 days ago.

  • the browser refresh icon on the desktop once per minute

A small question.  I am currently 'essay' Photoshop CC before taking a subscription.  Since the installation of the trial version my icons on the desktop (Windows 7) keep flashing/refresh once per minute.  All icons that is, except the icon creative cloud which is not updated (or blink).  Referring to the Windows Task Manager I notice it's explorer.exe that is currently running for a fraction of a second, once a minute, with 13% of CPU power just for that fraction of a second short.  While it's not perform the proper functioning of my computer, or all programs, it is quite disconcerting to have this "flashing" repeatedly happening all the time. It is something that was not happening before you download and install Photoshop CC.  Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be or what I can do to stop what is happening. I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker, but I would be much happier to take a full subscription if I could solve the problem.  (P.S. I've been a Photoshop user / reviewer / instructor since the 1990s)

I thank you in advance for any help or suggestion, you can offer.

    Kind regards

Is your desktop/Explorer flashes if you exit Creative Cloud and only run Photoshop?

I just installed a program call CCCleaning using Download.com. After you install the software to clarify on any virus that I might have, I rebooted my computer. Once started all my icon on my desk right away. When I try to right click on my mouse, nothing appears. So what I did I pres Ctrl + Alt + Delete, the the window Task Manager appears. When I select the new task, I can pick a certain program it will open. BUT when I try to drag an icon on the desktop, it won't let me. Looks like they disable me to run any shortcut on the desktop. I can open all programs unless I open the Task Manager window and select new task.
