help desk remotely on a LAN working group

Due to the keyboard of the computer of my newest desktop computer is in break on me and crashing to the ground (completely different nature office crash that is normally spoken on this forum), I decided to try to connect to the most powerful computer of my old WIn98/XP system. However, I could not then connects with XP. By accident as he tried a reboot, I selected Windows 98 by accidentally drop a Kleanex box on the keyboard and the devil he tried to connect from Win98 and it worked.

Think the problem has been solved, I rebooted to XP, only to get the same problem again.

I tried to disable the Windows Firewall without effect.

I have triple checked that I used the correct and also tried computer name IP address. I tried to specify a user account, an administrator account and no account. I get the same error every time.
'This computer cannot connect to the remote computer.

Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or the owner of the remote computer. »

I am the owner of computers and network administrator. I'm stumped on what other measures to take to resolve it.

I must point out that the photos below were taken on the minutes of the EXACT SAME COMPUTER either inside (the time it took to restart), but the WIn98 operating system had no problem while XP gave me errors.

http://www.Flickr.com/photos/10736018@N05/sets/72157630130612186/

I just did another test. My laptop has no problem connecting. That Office XP has a problem. Could a vital service were disabled? What other steps should I take to understand what is wrong or try to fix it?

Ah, found. Looks like I had accidentally damaged a line in my hosts file when I block a boring adserver that gets by adblock plus. Somehow, I have inserted a carriage return on the line of the computer in question. Yes, a hosts file, just so that I can say "router" when to reconfigure the external hardware firewall/router/switch (but above all it is the firewall that need tweaking, or address my computers name instead of the static IP address.

Ping solved via the hosts file. Also, I thought it was weird that there can be no answer, I could have sworn that I enabled in the Windows Firewall (I did), but written in chalk up to think that I forgot when I installed Windows 7 a few years (the computer came with Vista Home Premium and I've upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. He was thinking about your comments about the ping who carried me in this direction.

Stocks also warned me, since I was a Cloudy part is, I rarely use as the old computer's file server (why not unload the used and obsolete computer work less).

If a moderator wants to mark this reply as the answer, feel free.
I cleaned up the post I made a few editing errors.

  • Need help setting up a network home wireless to the working group. I tried everything I read and nothing has worked. I got lost.

I just received a more recent laptop and wants to set up a network so I can transfer files back.  It seems that it would be a fairly simple network to set up, but obviously I'm missing something.

It must be a wireless network.  I have a wireless router, two Toshiba laptops, running a Windows 7 and the other runs Windows 10, and I have a printer.  I can access internet with laptops or both if the router does not seem to be the issue.

I read articles that said I had need of a homegroup, but that did not work.  Then I read an article saying since my computers running different operating systems, that I couldn't use a homegroup that I should use a workgroup.  I followed the instructions given in the article and which don't seem to work either.

The names of working group on both computers are the same and so are the passwords.  The computer names are different.

I was on the old computer and when I go into Windows Explorer, under network, I can see the two names listed, however, when I click on the other computer, I get a message saying that the computer is not on the network.  I got the internet service at the time so the router was working.  Another time I tried to copy a small file to the other computer and the message said I didn't have permissions to do so.  I got the same message when I tried to add a folder to the other computer in the network area in Windows Explorer.  I get the same types of messages when I try things peers, while on the new computer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  So far, since I got the new laptop, I spent nearly three weeks, trying to get things to work.  This seems to be the biggest challenge of all.

    Hello

    * When create us tunnel Lan to Lan in the hub, a group is created for this Lan to Lan under groups such as (configured internally L2L) Im aware that this is how it works)

    Hello

    Maybe this can help.

    ---------------------

The following looks like a long history (it's only 600 words). I know not what is knowledge of the user, and exactly what has been done already. The info go through the motions of the configuration and verify most of the common aspects of the LAN Windows OS features '.

All aspects should be checked, declaring that she "worked before" or incessant on"I didn't something ", is not a way to deal withcurrent sharing problems.

    ----------------------

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Please Note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled).
If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic.

If you end up with the 3rd party software uninstalled or disabled, make sure that Windows native firewall is active .

Network Win 7 with another version of Windows as a work network (works very well if all computers are Win 7 also).

    In the properties

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . All the users who are allowed to share need to have an account onall computers that they are allowed to connect to.

Everyone is an account, that means a group of all users who already have an account now as users. It is available to avoid the need to configure permission for each on its own, it does not mean all those who feel that they would like to connect.

File and Printer Sharing is on

    Computer browser is started

Both PCs have updated files to share with users able to change files on the network.

Help this has been driving me crazy

No doubt Section c below or misconfigured or double firewall.

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file sharing / print on the Exceptions tab normally run the XP Network Setup Wizard will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt", it will turn on the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not share the users directory or the Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder.

    F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response.

  • Network working group or an area for small businesses

    Hi all!

Hi, I am facing a problem whenever someone asks me what kind of network is better for a small business, a network of workgroup or a domain?

Could someone help me to find information on the benefits and disadvantages of each of them for a small business? In this way I permanently erase this doubt.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Jack.

    Hi Jack,

Networked computers can be part of a workgroup or a domain. The main difference between the areas and working groups is the management mode of the network resources. Computers on home networks are usually part of a workgroup, and computers on networks to work are usually part of a domain.

    In a working group:

    • All computers are peers; no computer has control over another computer.
    • Each computer has a set of user accounts. To connect to any computer in the workgroup, you must have an account on this computer.
    • There are usually no more than twenty computers.
    • A working group is not protected by a password.
    • All computers must be on the same local network or subnet.

    In a field:

    • One or more computers are servers. Network administrators use servers to control the security and permissions for all computers on the domain. This makes it easy to make changes because the changes are automatically made to all computers. Domain users must provide a password or other credentials whenever they access the field.
    • If you have a user account on the domain, you can connect to any computer on the domain without needing an account on this computer.
    • Probably, you can only make changes limited to the computer settings because network administrators often want to ensure consistency between computers.
    • There may be thousands of computers in a domain.
    • Computers can be on different LANs.

A workgroup is a network infrastructure of base with a soft security check and there is basically no administrative center central control.
A workgroup is more synonymous with small networks - one where it does not guarantee to have a network of installed field. With a working group, no other additional computers are needed and by far the cheapest Setup for an internal LAN.

However, one area is more complicated and more suited to large companies with many computers and departments within the ministries as a university structure or the structure within Microsoft Corporation.
The areas have additional computers to oversee the safety and normal operation of the company's computers and data sharing is a priority.

You can see the following link for more information:

How did you test the remote control?
What do you mean who does not? Some functions does not work or a complete remote control cannot be used?

  • Replacement for the Working Group to el Capitan Manager?

I recently built new servers, intending using open directory.

The equipment I use are the new mac mini servers, with two 1 TB drives and 16 GB of memory.

Historically I have used Workgroup Manager for direct starting, deployment of the printer files, user groups and others.

Is there a replacement for the Working Group Manager who no longer works with el capitan (10.11.3)?

The replacement is the Manager of service profile. See the built-in help of server for instructions begin. This is beta-quality software, at best.

  • Working Group stopped after the installation of the new wireless router

My working group stopped working after the installation of the new wireless router.  Router was switched were to move from DSL to fiber optic.

I have a very simple home with two laptops working group, the two are connected with a wireless router.  A PC is running XP with the updates and service packs; the other PC is Windows 7 Home premium.  This working group was running without problems for a few years.  The Working Group has been used to share files between two laptops.  Internet access was through the DSL wireless router and print was with a wireless printer, without going through the working group.

I had my DSL set out to free fiber optic last week, which meant that a new wireless router has been installed by my local phone company.  Internet works fine; wireless printer works.  The working group no longer works.  When I try to connect from XP to Win7 and I click on mode workgroup computers, I get this message:

WorkGroupName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

I tried to create a new working group, the new name for the same workgroup on both machines, but this did not help.  Working groups are supposed to be simple; This seems to be a problem on the new router - telco tech support says that nothing is stuck on the router. I don't believe them.

What version of XP you use (Home or Pro)?

Can you access the Win 7 a XP computer?

You have identical accounts, passwords on both computers?

If all that was done was to change routers without making any changes on the computers, the most likely cause of the problem is a third party (other than Windows) firewall on at least one of the computers.  Being by default, a router automatically assigns IP addresses to computers on your local network.  Different brands of routers, but use different address ranges.  For example, Cisco/Linksys routers typically use the 192.168 form addresses. 1.1 with 192.168. 1. 254, while the D-Link routers typically use 192.168.1 to 192.168.0.0. 254.  A firewall configured to allow only the first IP range blocks communication to the scope of the latter.

So... What is the name and version of your anti-virus program?
What other security software is installed?

On every laptop computer, open a command prompt window
for XP: start > run > cmd > OK
for Win 7: type cmd.exe in the search box and press enter
In the black command prompt window, type the following command and press enter
    ipconfig

Please provide the values for the following for the adapter wireless of each computer
    IP (XP)
    IPv4 address (Win 7)

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

    Method 1: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not still in safe mode, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3: Follow the steps in the article.

We have recently implemented a network composed of our three computers (2 XP) Home Office and 1 Windows 7 to share files and printers.

So, we try to remove this computer from the working group.

However, no matter how hard I searched on Internet, there is no way to remove the infected computer's existing working group.

There that experts can help us?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

You cannot remove a computer from a working group, but you can change the name of the working group.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/295017

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/51711-workgroup-name-view-change.html

But that will not necessarily mean that they are not accessible by other computers on the network, or it will necessarily make the other less likely to be infected through this PC computers.

The only way to "withdrawal" of a computer on a network is to unplug the network cable or remove the name of the wireless network.

If you are concerned about a possible infection, you must get the malware to day and scan for malware protection.

However, I suspect it's more likley your problems are caused by the lack of knowledge in the topic network different Windows operating system. This can help...
