Windows IT Help desk

At 3:56 pm is I got a call from a guy who claims to be an employee with Windows IT Help Desk; Adem Smith/ID # ADM209. The call came from the following number; 69-666-6961 adem Smith gave me another number to contact him. 646 243-2811 he was telling me that my computer license has expired and so that his group to renew the license, I pay $199.00, and my computer was in danger of being hacked. Sounds a bit scammy to me.

Anyone out there know such a group of support per person?

Your comments will be greatly appreciated,

Tony Capobianco

Hello

It's a scam.

Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And Microsoft does not contact you unless YOU have made prior arrangements with them to do.

There is an article in the link I'm you provide at the end of this one

  • Received a phone call that is supposed to come from Microsoft Help Desk all downloaded on my computer junk files! Is it a scam?

I got an unexpected phone call this morning. The man at the other end is said to Microsoft Help Desk. He said he had an urgent problem with my computer. He said that, as part of the automatic updates download, my computer had downloaded some unwanted files likely to damage my computer. He said that the files would fill my drive causing my computer to grind to a halt and also undermine my security software, leaving my computer vulnerable to attacks. He wanted to sit in front of my computer and he would talk to me through fixing it. I did apologize and hung up. I now had two of these calls.

The sounds of all of this as a scam to me! I have no way of verifying that this person has been Microsoft at all, and I can't imagine Microsoft never call someone at home like that. I guess it was someone trying to access my computer for criminal purposes. I couldn't find anything on the web site of Microsoft to think there was no truth in what in told me.

Can anyone offer me any advice?

  • Legit or a scam? -unsolicited from Windows Live Help calls

Help please! My just called and said she received a call from a compnay called Windows Live Help (I know what it is, I don't think they have made appeals to the people). Anyway, they said their servers showed that his IP address of the computer was hacked and she needed them allow control of his computer. She calls a # a long time away, talked to a foreign person went somewhere in the start menu (it does not remember) and handed control of his computer for them. They were going to say that its shield of defense windows license has expired and that the ONLY way to restore his computer files / was to reactivate his license. $549 for the life, $159 for 1 year, they said that no tech IT doesn't center or a safety program could help restore and protect his computer. It totally sounds like a scam to me, but I want to make sure. I would also like to give my mother the correct steps to protect his computer in the future and remove all * these people may have installed or caused to his computer. Can someone please give me some advice?

    Hi Colin,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem you found error 80070422 when checking for Windows updates. This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are met:

    1. The Windows Update database is damaged.
    2. Antivirus software is configured to scan the folder % Windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
    3. Service (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not receive a content link header.
    4. A required system file is incorrectly registered.

I suggest you to try the steps below and see if it helps you to solve the problem.

    Method 1

I suggest you to check if you are able to access Windows Update services and also make sure that the following services are started. If it is not started, follow the listed below as follows:

    a. press the Windows key + R, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) in the Run dialog box to start, and press enter.

    b. Locate the Windows Update service.

    c. right-click on the Windows Update service and select Properties.

    d. in Startup type, select enable.

    e. click Start under Service status.

    f. click OK.

    g. Repeat steps c to f for the following services :

CSP & Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

If these steps do not help to solve the problem, you can proceed to the step below and check.

    Method 2

Step by step instructions for the fixed number.

    (a) press the Windows key + X , and then select (Admin) command prompt.

    (b) on the prompt window open copy and paste commands (all at once)

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    Ren SoftwareDistribution.old C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    (c) wait for the course to complete.

    (d) close the command prompt.

Now, try to reinstall Windows updates and check if it helps.

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

my old motherboard was brockin so I replaced it with a new one and now I carnt activate windows pleae help

Something that all OEM computer owners need to understand...

Citing the example of a desktop HP ENVY h8-1419 PC...

It is the motherboard that determines the make and model of a PC OEM, NOT the case.

OEM motherboards contain BIOS custom, in this case HP. Installing OEM key code and recovery disks or partitions will work as long as the Windows installation find a BIOS from HP and the type of motherboard, Windows will validate and remain active.

When replacing the motherboard, for some reason, with a motherboard that does NOT have a custom BIOS HP, the computer is no longer a desktop HP ENVY h8-1419 PC.

If the 'new' motherboard first saw life in a DELL computer, it then becomes a DELL. It is not possible to use custom installation of another brand of OEM OEM.

If she started life in a box of motherboard manufacturer on the set of a major computer parts retailer, is no longer a desktop HP ENVY h8-1419 PC. It's everything that appears as the make and model in the box...

In the first case, you will need the COA, the key code sticker and the DELL machine DELL of origin if original installation media you want together upwards, the drivers and all.

Or, as in the second case, you will need either a retail key code or a code key of system manufacturer which must be purchased.
