HELP discrete GPU: noise / pinging - Alienware 13

My brand new Alienware 13 works perfectly. Except when I run an application that activates the dedicated graphics processor Nvidia GPU. Once he starts, I begin to hear irregularly, rattling noise. The sound is by train from the upper left corner.

Maybe it's the left fan, but why he would only start making noise, when the GPU is running?

I'm not 100% sure it's a fan noise. It could be an electronic noise any. It's sort of reminiscence to the sound of a bad hard drive, but my laptop has SSD (and it is in half lower)

The laptop is running on an out of the box configuration, with updated drivers.

I tried to open the box and looked inside, but could not see that it is taken in the fan.

Please help, the noise is disturbing and annoying, and am generally very happy with the product. It would be a shame to have to return it.

I got the site of Dell, support for the following day, change the fan in a few minutes, and it was fixed. Its been more than half a year and no problems since.

  • Sierra Messages App is forcing the use of the discrete GPU

Since the update of my mid 2015 15 "MacBook Pro to Sierra, Messages.app requires the use of the discrete GPU and kill my battery time.

All the world fell on this and if so, have you found a solution?

Here, even with a MacBook Pro in early 2011... problem seems to be based on the new 'features messages"that you can use in iOS 10.

From messages app, the internal GPU is used until I get a message with one of these new features to messages. Then the GPU will switch to the discrete GPU AMD and continues to work with him until I left messages app.

  • W520 Power Manager uses the discrete GPU

    Hello

for some time now, I noticed that the power (currently using 6.34) Manager activates the discrete GPU, and therefore it is impossible to control powers since they double almost as soon as the discrete GPU is activated.

I know it worked correctly a while. Any idea what would cause this? I'm in that last Optimus driver with the latest NVidia Quadro driver added on top...

Thank you. I found the culprit. For some reason any processor default graphics in the basic nvidia profile has been set to discreet.
    Disappointment...

  • Help to upgrade the gpu r4 mx17 Alienware

I was trying to play Shadow of Mordor, when he emerged with a Geforce gtx 675 m and I think he died after getting screens too much blue. I was wondering what the choices can I buy to upgrade my GPU, to buy something like an Nvidia Geforce gtx 880 m 8 gb DDR5 will be compatible. I can't find a site to find what compatabilities I have with my laptop. I don't know much about computers.

There is no way to know without opening the case.

We have a list of video cards tested for the R4 M17x.
    But only includes the following.

    GTX - 675 M
    GTX - 660 M

  • Need GPU upgrade for Alienware x 51 r1

I am the owner of an Alienware x 51 R1, 330W PSU, i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz, GeForce GTX 555 GPU. I wonder what the largest GPU can I get for my computer is and where I can get it. Thanks and help will be greatly appreciated!

The X 51 R1 has a riser, so I would say that max EVGA - GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphic card EVGA 02 G-P4-3751-KR. The power cannot be upgraded.

  • Need help for upgrade R2 of Alienware x 51: card graphics, RAM, power supply

Hi, about a year ago, I purchased the Alienware R2 x 51, and I want to improve.

Im a bit new to this so I need help, so I came on the forums.

Current form (these are the parts I want to improve):

    GeForceĀ® GTX 745 with 4 GB of DDR3 memory

3.4 GHz Intel Core i7-4770 processor

    8 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

You want to upgrade to these parts:

    GTX 960

    16 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

    I'm not sure things:

-I don't know if I currently have a 330w power, I heard say that because I have the R2 version of the x 51 Alienware, I 330w power (but I'm not sure so if someone can help with this, or tell me how do I know if I have a 330w PSU)

-Ive seen someone use this card with his alienware x 51 and it worked perfectly and I was wondering if it would work with my alienware too

    www.Amazon.com/.../Ref=sr_1_5, qid = 1437994445 & sr = 8-5 & keywords = gtx + 960 + msi

    • This card will fit in my alienware x 51?
    • It will run smoothly?

-Last thing is I need help with the ram, I want to buy two 8 GB sticks and replace them with two 4 GB ones I currently have. I'm not sure which RAM should I get (if someone can help with this and leave a link) which is compatible with my x 51 alienware.

If you had something but the 645 GTX, GTX 745 or GTX 750 ti, you 330w POWER supply. The PSU is determined by what GPU, you, you no what revision. If you want to upgrade to the GTX 960 (the one you accessed is good), you must supply 330w (what I describe as a big black brick with an oval green LED). You probably have the 240w.

Most desktop DDR3 RAM should work with the X 51. Some will not be because they do not match (heat sink (?) too thick and rounded).

  • Can E540 - I disable discrete gpu (Optimus) from the BIOS?

    Hello.

I think with the purchase of a Thinkpad E540 with a gpu discrete nvidia.

I intend to install linux on it and I really need optimus for him (nor is it well supported), but sometimes I'd like to be able to use it under windows.

I would like to know if it is possible to completely disable the gpu nvidia from the BIOS so that it only works with the intel integrated an or should I buy one with gpu intel only.

I read that the lenovo changed the implementation of bi - gpu on the newer generation thinkpads.

I did some research but I couldn't know exactly what are the BIOS options; most of the results are on older laptops of gen.

If any owner of this specific model could anwser would be great

Please attach a screenshot of the settings of the bios if possible.

    Thank you.

When you switch to discrete nvidia fits in the lowest power state, basically it is turned off. It will not be displayed in the Device Manager.

After putting in my gpu, I go to restart it and get to the white screen and 6 long beeps, however when I remove the graphics card, the computer starts well, id like help on what mean these beeps, and how to get my graphics card to work (if it's still the graphics card), my diet is the corsair cx 600 m

    Hello:

Remove the graphics card and change of these 2 BIOS settings as shown on the link below, to replace the Board, and you should be fine.

  • How to change the GPU for notebook Alienware?

I bought an Alienware Laptop since 12/2014. It has the Nvidia GTX860m 2 GB. Can I change? Because now it looks a little too old for the newest games.

Any updates for your laptop is not void the warranty. It just will not be covered by the warranty.

Here's the Alienware tested GPU you can upgrade.

    • GTX 770 m
    • GTX 780 m
    • R9 m290x
    • GTX 880 m

Here are some community tested GPU that requires more than a simple swap-and-play.

    • GTX 970 m
    • GTX 980 m

I suggest go at notebookreview forum if you are considering getting a series of 900 m GTX GPU. The full manual, found on the Dell support site, gives you detailed instructions on concealment and re-Assembly of the laptop. No need to contact Dell.

  • NEED HELP! Hard drive failure Alienware 17

When I start my computer it really takes a lot of time for anything to be taken and eventually I get a blue screen and the process restarts itself. So after a few violins and research, I found out how to run diagnostics.

That's what I got when my hard drive failed the test

    Error code: 2000-0142

    Validation: 70303

Please help, it's been a few months since it happened to save enough money to get a new hard drive. I just bought 3 Witcher in time and I'm sick of not being able to play you will understand my urgent need for assistance.

    Hello

Unfortunately, this error can mean a hardware failure with the hard drive. The recommended procedure is to replace the hard drive. If your system is under warranty, send me a PM with your service tag to get help.

  • Do I need a discrete GPU to run After Effects?

I intend to use after effects on my next rig. I'll sometimes make a simple video editing as the fixing of the shaky videos and creating slideshows. I read that the most important thing after the effect is CPU and Ram, so I intend to use the gpu integrated rather than buy a discreet graphics card so I can spend more on cpu and ram. I'm on a budget, and here are the parts that I came up with:

    CPU: i5-6600

    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 8 GB DDR4 3000 (or 16 GB DDR4 2133?) V

    Motherboard: Asus H110M-C

i5-6600 uses the new HD 530 integrated graphics and I heard when he used with ddr4 ram it is much more powerful than previous generations of integrated graphics. Therefore, HD 530 good enough for video editing casual with sequelae or should I get a slow cpu/ram and spend the money on a discreet GPU? Also should I get a RAM with a faster speed or more capacity from 8 GB 3200 or 16 GB 2133?

    Thank you

You are right that generalization AE depends on the CPU and RAM.Ā  Some insights are accelerated by OpenGL, that more simple GPU can handle easily anyway.

Things that the GPU are intended are traced to the RADIUS made (now defunct), 3D Cinema 4 d and some effects applications. In particular, some third-party plugins like video Copilot optical flares and item 3D or Zaxwerks Invigorator, are highly dependent on the GPU.

But your general use of AE will be fine.

  • Need help with background noise?

If some people have been talking and making nosie while I was recording minecraft and talk about how to remove or disable it?

    HawkEye,

    Welcome to the forum.

I agree with Steve, and especially if you have human voices, which must be removed without affecting the other sounds in your video.

Tips & tricks article talks about general background noise and its mitigation or removal: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2860521#2860521

Unfortunately, your case will be a bit harder, because you need to mitigate or remove Audio-specific, speific points - much plus-travail by hand, with less overall adjustment. Yet, with the work, you could get more close to what you want.

Also, see this article for tips & tricks, to mitigate the Volume (and Gain), an Audio Clip, even at specific points: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3472343#3472343

    Good luck
