Help is needed to be sure of having the last Windows XP 9 installed on my computer.

Dear Microsoft,

Do keep in mind that I am 68 years old, have rheumatoid arthritis and that I had no computers in classes 1 through my bachelor's degree in history.  What little I know about computers I had to learn by heart, because computer language IS a foreign language for me.  A lot of instructions that I get to make the downloads and upgrades are gibberish to me.

I am a wargamer since 1950 when I was five years old.  It's a decade before cast metal, historically accurate military miniature were available in the United States. mainly from the United Kingdom, but now everywhere!

Then comes the computer technology, quickly the RTS military strategy and tactical games are available as CDs and downloads.  I was game 'Age of Sail II' and ' Age of Sail II: privateer's Bounty "by Global Star Software and Talonsoft, the American marketers and Kate, the Russian company that created games around 2000-2003.  I always had video stability problems trying to use these games with my system Windows XP (Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition, home edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.  I'm also using an Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU, 7300 E @ 2 .66GHz and with 2.67 GHz, 1.99 GB of Ram).

I like naval games in the age of sail?  I know more about the nomenclature and my way around a sailboat I do on cars!

I had the winchman of yacht racing crew, because I had the fastest hands.  Now, I have R.A. and do write slowly to be legable and be very careful driving and cooking, while shaving.

I want to correct stability problems video that I have with both of these programs in particular, I like the most.

As much as I liked all the games Age of Empires by Microsoft, none of these programs, the warships move like real sailboats in conditions of real sailing with crews of realistic sailing like these in Russian.  There really isn't any excuse for this.  Microsoft should at least be able to duplicate any accomplishment Russian what whatsoever, if is not exceed.  This oversight is perhaps a way of Microsoft condescend to the intelligence of their American customers.   I defy Microsoft to go beyond these is Russian beauties, it is to say, let me more latitude in creating a hypothetical combat Squadron sail and understand the performance characteristics of the Polynesian catamarans and ability schooners and longitudinally square-rigged sailing ships closer to the eye of the wind square Riggers up and allowing the square rigged ships to "lock in the irons. , much of the time, if they are stupid enough to try to fire instead of wear autour!

I'm an old salt of the U.S. Navy, having served on Board of the USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2), which gave its name to the entire class of Destroyers DDG Missile.   Adams is also about to leave in mothballs fleet in Philadelphia and be transformed into Museum floating in Jacksonville, Florida.  The Hollywood film, "The Bedford Incident" was shot with one of these dregs of distillery as the Bedford.   I had the honour to be part of a crew of 'crack' on board the Adams and we raised the bar on the standards of fire bombing and anti-aircraft shore.  I was almost in an incident of Bedford-style with a nuclear submarine Russian in the Mediterranean in 1967.  The Russians turned back or he would not be an Algiers, Palma de Mallorca, Marseilles and the rest of us all would live in the conditions of the 19th century, if it is not the stone age after WORLD War III ended!

I tried to download Windows XP 9, but I don't know even how to see if it worked, but for openers, I need better upgrade from XP.  Then, with your help, we can turn these types of video stability I have games in the age of sail.

Thank you for your attention and help,

This is a post very interesting, but unfortunately, not one that will result in a large part, if someone, help here.

For starters, it is not in the right place.  This "Windows Update" forum is for problems with the system Microsoft uses to provide its updates and patches for Windows and Office.

It is possible, but not likely think that you might find some help in Windows XP Gaming forum--> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-gaming?page=1&tab=all&tm=1367176685716

Age of Sail II is very old as computer games go - it goes back to 2001 - and even when it first came out, there were complaints about his instability.  For example, here's a bit of a review of February 2001:

But the game's worst defects - not by a long shot. First of all, it is a volatile game. Not so much that it affects seriously enjoy, but bad enough that is. A lot of players (including yours truly) have had problems to get the game to run successfully on Voodoo 3 cards. I know that the Voodoo 3 is not necessarily the industry standard or anything, but why should suffer us alone? There was also some C++ runtime errors here and there but I do not know if this is related to 3D problems or the fact that the game installed on my desktop shortcut does not work well is supported. As one more extra, the launch of the CD autorun causes some problems too. TalonSoft have already released a fix that softens things a lot, but there are still some instability here and there. However, if you run from the Start Menu, things work a lot better.

Even if you don't specify what video card you have, I suspect that your XP Media Center computer is more powerful than what was around in 2001.  However, you can visit the Web site of the manufacturer of your video card and download the latest version of the driver, assuming that you do not already have it installed.

It is not clear if TalonSoft is still active (the web site does not load) and I'm sure that Kate is closer. [EDIT - site Akella; but I doubt any support is available] According to this, Matrix Games bought the rights to games from TalonSoft in 2005, then you might see if the support matrix has any help.  There are a few very old tasks here--> http://www.gamespot.com/age-of-sail-ii/

Google finds some forums for Age of Sail II gamer, but a glance suggests they are fairly inactive.

What is 'Windows XP 9' is, I think you're referring to Internet Explorer 9.  On the one hand, IE 9 does not work on Windows XP.  On the other hand, the version of Internet Explorer, you probably have nothing to do with the functioning of the age of sail.  If you have Service Pack 3 for XP, as well as updates from Windows Update, you already have 'best Upgrade XP.

Sorry, I couldn't be more help.

I like your comment about score.  Unlike the fear of too many marine leisure today, ship port (or involuntary jibe as we fashion new sailors call) allows you to keep control at all times rather than trusting the momentum to carry you through the eye of the wind.

Good wind.
