Help links not working not not in Microsoft SQL Server

Thanks for reading this post.

(1) in SQL Server Management Studio, select 'help, how do I' in the menu bar main. In this page, and under the 'How?', the first six hyperlinks, 'Get Started', 'find documentation for a particular component', etc. having the segment after the .htm ok work of #bkmk_ (the name of the link). Example below:

Ms-help://MS. SQLCC.v10/MS. SQLSVR.v10.en/s10sq_GetStart/html/a8d3fcbd-c841-4ac3-8030-585500824964.htm#bkmk_BrowseUser

When I move the cursor on the link, the cursor changes pointer on the hand cursor indicating that it recognizes the link and when you click on it, it goes to the correct page. Theselinks work.

******************************************************************************************

(2) when I move the cursor overany the other links on the first page, the cursordoes does not change the hand cursor and after clicking, I can't go to subsequent pages. The example below is taken from the HTML source, I do not see the address in the URL drop-down list. All statements of keywords MSHelp:link do not work.

Database engine

******************************************************************************************

(3) this link is in my "Help topics" pane anddoes work well when you click on it.

Ms-help://MS. SQLCC.v10/MS. SQLSVR.v10.en/s10sq_GetStart/html/31f9e6dc-e946-4576-80bb-729f2bee7478.htm

******************************************************************************************

(4) if all of the items listed in the "Help contents" pane, click the linkworks.

Ms-help://MS. SQLCC.v10/MS. SQLSVR.v10.en/s10sq_GetStart/html/6a428023-e3cc-4626-a88a-4c13ccbd7db0.htm

******************************************************************************************

What appearsnot to work are the links embedded in the page, except for the type in the example (1) or in the pane content or favorite.

I have C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB928843\SP2QFE\hhctrl.ocx and C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB896358\SP2QFE\hhctrl.ocx on my machine. There are also (2) C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc and C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll .dll.

I glued (ms-help://MS. SQLCC.v10/MS. SQLSVR.v10.en/s10sq_GetStart/html/a8d3fcbd-c841-4ac3-8030-585500824964.htm#bkmk_BrowseUser) directly in IE 8 and received the 'ActiveX control' blocked content message of IE. I allowed that blocked content and the links still do not work. It seems that the ActiveX control is loaded but does not work properly.

Someone knows how to present all works in Explorer and ms-help, is there relevant registry problems and where and how it can be broken. Thank you for your time and effort.

Best regards

Howard

Hi howardsmith,

Your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for SQL server support. Please post your question in the Sub forum.

  • Window of the query editor with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio DO NOT scroll

In my view, that it is a question more of a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio number... apologies if you think I might be in the wrong place of Windows...

When you work in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, my cursor is common in my part of the query editor window. When I try using my scroll wheel it to review some SQL code, instead the scroll on my mouse wheel is controlling the pane objects in the Solution Explorer window and NOT the glass query editor.
Some of our partners appear to be well with their ability to scroll using the mouse scroll wheel while others seem to be in the same boat I am, and nobody here seems to know why it is.
I hope for some comments and I am hopeful for an answer. Thanks in advance.

I get a notification of download of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 (KB2546951), and many times I try, the download will not be completed.  I used Microsoft Fix it and the problem is still not resolved.

    Hi, Longshanks1776,

Are you trying to download manually or by using Windows Update?

What Fixit did you use and is given an error code?  Please post back.

The update has already been installed?  Open Windows Update and click on 'View Update History'

If the update has been installed, you can right click on the update and select Hide when it reappears in the Windows Update list.

Tried to install the update as soon as possible?  Was there a message failed with the error Code #?  After the return, please.

    Open command prompt

    Type the following command

    SFC/scannow

    Press enter

Note: There is a space between sfc and / scannow

When the scan is finished, open run and type %windir%\Logs\CBS

This will open the CBS.  Search cannot repair file #.  Note the name of the file

Perform an in Place Upgrade to repair the files.

  • KB2760411, KB2760588, but now "can NOT CONNECT to" SQL Server!

Today I faced with the same Windows Update problems as many people - with KB2760411 and KB2760588 constantly reinstall - and try to resolve which included several reboots - system
    ())

BUT now... a serious problem on one of these machines: cannot access SQL Server!
Fortunately, I did not run these updates on any * production * machines (I do updates on development machines, first) - this is a development machine - but I still need to get working SQL Server of this machine!

I tried to use a Windows login to connect and tried to use a SQL Server to connect user, and what it in either, looks like the same message:
    "Cannot connect to ."

Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. Note that for windows, this server running Server 2003 (this is why I chose the value of the drop down menu 'windows xp', below).
and for sql server, run SQL Server 2005.

    Help!?

ALSO NOTE: I KNOW THIS ISN'T A "NETWORK ERROR."
because I get the same message when I remote desktop on the server and try it.
I did try to look in the windows Server 2003 event viewer, but saw nothing relevant under the security, system or Application.

When I tried it with a sql server login, I clicked on "Show technical details" and got the below (blank lines removed and replaced with the name of the server):

I tried and it worked. What's in your trace files? You specified two different, both files in / tmp. Journal will be in one of them. Please, view the contents of the log file. In addition, the problem may be with the SQL Server. ODBC 20009 error is "error of numerical value": http://www.wiki-errors.com/err.php?wiki=20009
