Help: The ESXi host has no persistent storage

We have an ESXI 5.0 installed on our Dell server and we have some virtual machines running. suddenly, we had a mistake on Vsphere client.

"EXSI host has no persistent storage.

To run the virtual machine, create at least a data store for the maintenance of the machines virtual and other system files. »

to resolve this problem, so we tried.

On Vsphere client (connected to the ESXI)-> configuration-> storage-> rescan all... once the re-scanner has been done.

We are able to see the file was mounted on the data store and it is lost in a minute. so it isn't permanently mounted to the data store to access the virtual machine.

Once we do the re-scan once again, we saw that the file has been fitted to the data store and lost again.

assemble and disassemble is to continue to switch.

We need a solution to fix the problem, or in the worst case we need a way to recover the Esxi machine (VMS) data.

Kindly share the reflections.

It should be a disk error, it is local storage that tempt you and the virtual machine files are stored in the local disk

don't forget to check the logs on the bit/ucs, regardless of the remote management tool, you use...

Please check the log files and vobd.log vmkernel

    Hello

The issue I'm having involves a HP N40L Microserver w / local storage on a HP SmartArray P410 controller.  6 hard drives configured in a RAID10 array and the multitude of ESXi what OS runs on local USB.

A recent issue w / the matrix raid caused a crash of the VMS resident and now "host ESXi has no persistent storage" message.

I solved the problems of disk HARD w / table (replaced a disk), and the table is presented in the peripheral topic under "HP Serial Attached SCSIDisk.  ID is naa.600508b1001c8d82bf5f4a33f0e2bc04

However, the data store does not appear in the tab of data warehouses.  I refreshed and restarted several times w / no success.

This data store was run on an installation 5.1 ESXi (ISO custom HP) for a few years without problem.

To try to solve the problem, I installed ESXi 6.0 U1 on a new USB stick which fortunately is now running in the Microserver but presenting the same behavior for the data store.

  • ESXi host has not recognized the VM in the shared storage

    Hello

We have installed ESXi host on our Blade Server and add the storage as a NFS storage device. There are in the NFS storage machine, Machine virtual files were there. But the ESXi host doesn't recognize any of the Virtual Machines.

Could someone help me how to configure the file Vmdk to access via the ESxi host with out any resettlement.

    Kind regards

If you go down each of the RHEl and VM1 files you should be able to add the vmx files to inventory

  • Server has no persistent storage

I installed ESXi 3.5 for testing purposes and once I downloaded and ran the VMware Infrastructure Client, I get the message, "VMware ESX server has no persistent storage." As this is the first time I saw, and still less used VMware, I'm confused on what I should do next. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

For Windows 2003 and 2008, it is not necessary, because the drivers for the virtual SCSI controller by default are already included on installation CD/DVD.

  • Unable to connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems:

    Hello

We have a host of ESXi 4 cluster running any vSphere 4.1.  Recently, I started to upgrade to update 2 and all the additional fixes.  After the upgrade of the vCentre server to the latest version (or maybe before I can't noticed) an of are hosts began to show the following error whenever I tried to connect to the console of any guest on this host.

Unable to connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems:

It lists any problems at all and no error display in the event log that it simply does not work.  I had a prod around the internet and found nothing.  I then rebuilt the host to exclude and the problem remains.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    David

If you can connect to the Console remotely using VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client connected directly to the host, take a look at vmware KB to connect to a remote virtual machine fails with the error: the certificate of the remote host has these problems

but more generally - remove host to vCenter inventory and then add the host to the back, take a look at opening in the console of the virtual machine after a new installation of ESXi or ESX fails with the error: the host certificate chain is not complete and could not connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems

  • VM doesn't qutoboot upward after the restart of the ESXi host

    Hi all

I environment, there is only a single Cluster. The Cluster has an ESXi host. all virtual machines including vCenter VM are resides on the ESXi host. When I reboot the host can all VM does not start?

For comparison, there is a different environment, there are two Clusters (Cluster 1 and Cluster 2) in vCenter, Cluster 1 has two hosts ESXi Cluster 2 has only a single ESXi host. vCenter runs on the ESXi host residing in Cluster1.

When I reboot the host residing in Cluster2, all virtual machines may start automatically.

is that any expert can explain the difference? Why single environment can auto boot VMs when both of these environment has a host to the Cluster and cluster activate HA service?

environments are executed at the ESX5.5.

You will need to check the box allow VMS to start and stop automatically with the host system and then change the setting on the edit tab, and mention what needs to be done for each machine.

  • Displaying output on the ESXi host?

It may be a stupid question but just wanted to be sure. I have ESXi running a desktop PC with a cluster of virtual machines configured. The PC has a screen attached to VGA. This means that I see the ESXi etc host configuration screen.

I can remote into the MV from my computer laptop etc, no problem, but I would like to be able to use the screen. So is it possible to show a virtual machine on this screen, rather than the ESXi host / console?

The short answer is no, this is not possible.

  • Where is the location of the log files to diagnose the ESXi host server is rebooted?

    Hi all

Last night one of my ESXi host has rebooted itself for some unknown reason, is it possible to look in the log which make it restart?

I have access to this URL: https://ESXi02/host is it possible to know what can cause her to restart while a sudden?

    Thank you.

    AWT

The best option for ESXi newspapers must collect through the VI client. VMware recommends not any diagnosis directly on the console of the server because it has a small hyperviser and no service console.

  • The connection to the remote host has been lost.

Seriously, almost every time I save a file and try to download it I get this error:

The connection to the remote host has been lost. Click Refresh to reconnect.

So I have to start again to download the file again... but no, I get this error again... until about 7 times then it will finally through. After that happening by once I have on a window of 2 minutes where I can download files without errors... then the cycle continues.

This is driving me CRAZY! It happened for about 2 weeks. I have not recently changed all the server info. I used to download files on the same server from dreamweaver all the time with ease. My partner with the same configuration works always with ease. So why am I having so much trouble?

I often have to troubleshoot PHP where I upload to the server to run it to see if it works, and I could have several times to download a file in the few minutes that becomes incredibly tedious task with this ongoing issue.

    Someone please help.

    Thank you!

    P.S. I'm using CS3.

Ah ha! I finally got to work properly!

Your site-> Site-> Remote Info Manager, try to check the passive FTP box and see if it works.

  • Create new vCenter and move the ESXi hosts

    Hello

I created a new vCenter vCenter apparatus using ISO 6.

The deployment went well and I have all the installation program. I would now like to move hosts our old vCenter to new ESXi.

I was reading this article to start the moving process.

When I try to disconnect the host I get the message below

    vcenter6_hostmove_001.png

In the article in the link above it is written that it will not affect the State of the virtual machine running on the host.

If I click on 'Yes' here, it will automatically put the host in maintenance mode?

I prefer not to do it if I can avoid it because I don't want to have to evacuate all virtual machines running on the esxi host.

Wouldn't it be better if I disabled it HA first? Then try to move hosts? Or I'm sure to sign-out and the subsequent removal?

    Thank you

    See you soon

    Hello

You must put your server in maintenance as a first step mode, then unplug and remove the server. It will work.

If it doesn't work, disable temporary HA and remove your host of the VC.

  • Find the ESXi hosts that aren't in clusters

How can I find the ESXi hosts that are not in the groupings using powercli?

As always, there are several ways to do so.

    Try this one

    Get-VMHost |where{$_.ExtensionData.Parent.Type -ne "ClusterComputeResource"} |Select Name

  • Add the model mv directly from the ESXI host

    Hi gentlemen,

    I have a question:

Is it possible to add a model from the ESXI host without using VCENTER?

I browse to the data store and I select Add to the broom, but I get an error.

Sort of to reach it without using VCENTER?

The models are a unique feature of vcenter. You can try renaming the vm vmxt vmx file, this would allow to add the file as a virtual machine, not model.

But anyway, you will not be able to use to deploy from model or the options you have for cela vcenter.

  • where to check the availability of the esxi host?

vsphere 4.1 customer, where can I go to check the availability of the esxi host without going to the terminal of the esxi host?

    Hello

You can find uptaime or ALL your ESXi servers in the data center in this way

Click on the vCener Server (left site)--> hosts tab in the window on the right and on the right site, you will see availability for all guests

  • Impossible to withdraw, migrate, etc., VM on the ESXi host

Earlier, the room of my loss of cooling infrastructure hosting servers suffered vSphere causing several ESXi hosts to closure without notice due to excessive heat.  Needless to say that the results were chaotic.  While I recovered/restored most of the systems, a problem seems to persist.  It is a virtual machine that is impossible to remove, move, etc. due to locks on files active.  The option in the .vmx to "Add to the inventory" file in the data store is also disabled.  However, this virtual machine is not displayed with a "vim - cmd vmsvc/getallvms" command.  In fact, investigating the locks on files, it doesn't appear with a ' vmkvsitools lsof | grep VM_Name command"and no result back with a ' ps | grep VM_Name command.  The host in question has also been restarted and updated (5.1 update 2, Update 3) so a simple reboot does not clear the locks.  So, the question is; How can I get rid of this virtual machine so I can properly re - add to vCenter?  Any help would be appreciated.

Then just do a kill-9 20156 and you are all set - this kill everyone and goes out by the force of the virtual machine and your hair will be free

  • Attempt vSwitch configuration change and now the ESXi host and virtual machines offline

So I have no doubt, I have myself to blame for this one. I was trying to change my vSwitch from 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps when an 'operation timed' error out jumps-to the top and my vCenter Server lost connection with my ESXi host. I tried to restart the host manually, but that did not help. The host is not the ping requests and all the virtual machines on that host are offline; None of them vMotion off to my other ESX Server.

I tried to reconnect the host computer in vCenter, but it is obviously does not connect because it can't ping it. I logged the ESXi console and all the network settings appear to be correct. I'm used to connect to the ESX console where you can execute commands, but it's my first ESXi host, so I don't know what I can do.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    -D.

If you had your management port and VMs on different vSwitches / NIC leave on framework would eliminate a false positive. As in your case the management port reportedly follows the cable / about speed, but the virtual machine network would be intact (and I'm assuming that your storage space as well).  In this case the VMs system would have worked very well even if the management port did not work.
