ESXi host has no persistent storage / fsUUID is null

Hello

The issue I'm having involves a HP N40L Microserver w / local storage on a HP SmartArray P410 controller.  6 hard drives configured in a RAID10 array and the multitude of ESXi what OS runs on local USB.

A recent issue w / the matrix raid caused a crash of the VMS resident and now "host ESXi has no persistent storage" message.

I solved the problems of disk HARD w / table (replaced a disk), and the table is presented in the peripheral topic under "HP Serial Attached SCSIDisk.  ID is naa.600508b1001c8d82bf5f4a33f0e2bc04

However, the data store does not appear in the tab of data warehouses.  I refreshed and restarted several times w / no success.

This data store was run on an installation 5.1 ESXi (ISO custom HP) for a few years without problem.

To try to solve the problem, I installed ESXi 6.0 U1 on a new USB stick which fortunately is now running in the Microserver but presenting the same behavior for the data store.

  • Help: The ESXi host has no persistent storage

We have an ESXI 5.0 installed on our Dell server and we have some virtual machines running. suddenly, we had a mistake on Vsphere client.

"EXSI host has no persistent storage.

To run the virtual machine, create at least a data store for the maintenance of the machines virtual and other system files. »

to resolve this problem, so we tried.

On Vsphere client (connected to the ESXI)-> configuration-> storage-> rescan all... once the re-scanner has been done.

We are able to see the file was mounted on the data store and it is lost in a minute. so it isn't permanently mounted to the data store to access the virtual machine.

Once we do the re-scan once again, we saw that the file has been fitted to the data store and lost again.

assemble and disassemble is to continue to switch.

We need a solution to fix the problem, or in the worst case we need a way to recover the Esxi machine (VMS) data.

  • Server has no persistent storage

I installed ESXi 3.5 for testing purposes and once I downloaded and ran the VMware Infrastructure Client, I get the message, "VMware ESX server has no persistent storage." As this is the first time I saw, and still less used VMware, I'm confused on what I should do next. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

For Windows 2003 and 2008, it is not necessary, because the drivers for the virtual SCSI controller by default are already included on installation CD/DVD.

  • ESXi host has not recognized the VM in the shared storage

    Hello

We have installed ESXi host on our Blade Server and add the storage as a NFS storage device. There are in the NFS storage machine, Machine virtual files were there. But the ESXi host doesn't recognize any of the Virtual Machines.

Could someone help me how to configure the file Vmdk to access via the ESxi host with out any resettlement.

    Kind regards

If you go down each of the RHEl and VM1 files you should be able to add the vmx files to inventory

  • "VMware ESX Server has no persistent storage."

I installed VMware ESXi 3.5 installable on a server with an Adaptec RAID 3405 controller. The build number of ESXi is 123629. I've got 4 1 TB drives configured in a RAID 5 array for a total to 2.73. When I install VMware, he sees the RAID array with the right size and installs successfully. However after I reboot and connect with the VI Client I get the message on the server not having is not a persistent storage and no data warehouses are displayed. If I go to storage adapters it shows Adaptec SCSI like vmhba2 with 2.73 TB capacity. However when I add storage and select disk/LUN it shows only 2.73 TB but only 744 GB of available capacity. I've never met this before. How to access the full capacity? I thought maybe it was because I was still on the trial but license using the serial number of the license made no difference. Also after he did the first time I've recreated the RAID array and started with a new installation of VMware. Both times he sees only 744 GB available.

Maximum supported = 2 TB LUN size, then you need to separate your RAID in 2 volumes, less than 2 TB each

  • 6.0 ESXi hosts are no longer

    Hello world!

I have a problem with VMware ESXi 6.0.

I have a VMware Cluster with 3 6.0 ESXi host. Last night 2 ESXi host has become unresponsive. ESXi hosts concerned, responds to the ping, but unplug vCenter, unable to connect directly to the client host with vSphere and unresponsive on DCUI. The VMs - running concerned guests - became unresponsive (VMware HA cannot restart VMs, because the host has locked the VMs file). Only solution: reset the hosts. After hard reset hosts, HA restart VM on another host and host affected normal work. The problem occurd when high e / s (backup, at the level of the files inside the virtual machine) on HBA.

In the /var/log/vmkernel.log , I see a lot of messages both "crash":

    WARNING: lpfc: lpfc_sli_issue_abort:9956: 1:3169 Abort failed: Abort INP: data: x 0 xcd0 x 8 x 98

ScsiPath: 7133: Set retry timeout for demolition of TaskMgmt failed for CmdSN 0x0, State failure, path vmhba5:C0:T0:L0

    The configuration of the hosts:

    Host type: IBM x 3850 X 5

VMware version: Lenovo ESXi 6.0 custom + VMware ESXi 6.0 Express Patch 2

CF: 2 * Emulex LightPulse FC SCSI 10.4.236.0 IBM 0494 42 8 GB 2-port PCIe FC HBA for System x Emulex firmware version: 2.02X11 version of the Emulex driver: 10.4.236.0 - 1OEM.600.0.0.2159203

The host firmware versions are later.

VMware installed on a USB stick (clean install, not upgraded), LOG dir on the CF data store.

The storage and the side FC switches have no error/warning message.

I see the VMware KB 2086025 and 2125904. In this KB article the symptoms are very similar to our situation, but our guests have the most recent version of the Emulex driver (KB articles: version prior to 10.2.340.18, our 10.4.236.0 version)

I tried the latest Emulex firmware (version: 10.6.126.0, install and reboot host) but the host crash again and the same newspaper as above.

Today a new problem, when I collect information on diagnosis (registers of export) of the host:

    • first of all welcome: unplug vCenter for seconds 3 times (State of heartbeat), and download of the newspaper failed, when the host disconnect, virtual machines (which run on this host) does not not on LAN
    • second host: connect download start, after the 10-minute purple screen:

    purple_screen.png

    I have found no solution.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

Have you seen the question of host unresponse before 6.0 updated. If not, I suspect strongly this is due to "VMware KB: ESXi 6.0 the network connectivity is lost with the NETDEV WATCHDOG timeouts in the vmkernel.log". Try upgrading to the latest version 6.0 that contains the fix for this.

The purple screen could be a different product bug and I doubt that it does not always happen. Based on the screenshot, it looks like collection Journal (vm-support) was going through some of the nodes of the VSI and failed at this point. So this issue could happen specifically only during some invocation of vm-support. Good to raise a complaint with the help of VMware.

  • Can upgrade you 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using the zip file?

I read the KB articles which seem to indicate that, to upgrade an ESXi host, you must use a vSphere Manager or an ISO on CD or USB.   But I saw someone go from 5.1 to 5.5 by downloading a zip file and running the commands, as indicated in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2008939.

When you connect through the vSphere client, it seems to indicate that it has updated to 5.5, but I fear that this may not be an upgrade path has officially supported or may be missing something.

Anyone here can comment if you can upgrade between the press point with a zip and and the upgrade of the above method fix?

    Thank you

Yes, it is a supported upgrade path, take a look here: VMware KB: methods of upgrade to ESXi 5.5

Summary of 5.5 ESXi upgrade methods

This table summarizes the methods supported for ESXi 5.5 upgrade:

  • b/w esx hosts VMotion using CF Storage share.

Hi, I wanted to know the esx communicate anything to the storage when its doing a vmotion. Lets say I make a vmotion between 2 esxi hosts share the same storage. I have a private just vnic to vmotion and a separate management and logging FT.  My vmkernel default gateway is the management of vnic. I do all the fiber channel for the shared storage.

Once a vmotion over, the new esx host must tell the storage that the vm now lives on me. If storage is all CF, how do?

Yes, locks are on the VMFS file system, so the connection of storage is used.

  • ESXi host memory utilization planning

I'm building a single ESXI host.  This host will run to 4 VM.  In construction of the host it is advisable to buy enough physical memory to cover the VM memory requirements?

So if these 4 VM will be necessary every 2GB would be 8-12 GB (12 GB if accounting for overhead) of physical RAM, being what it should be OR would it not what is recommended?  I'm curious how virtualization features such as compression, sharing, ballooning, etc. can stretch the actual amount of RAM physical?

You are directed to the right low path - you host will need its own oeprating which requires a minimum of 2 GB of memory, and memory for VMS - with an assessment of your machines, that's a good estimate to calculate the right amount memory required so for your case 4 x 2 GB or 8 GB - so a minimum of 10 GB , but I have double the memoryfor the ESXI host 12 GB both should work.

Now on the question will all 12 GB use only because the ESXi host has made the tools that will help to save on memory being used by the virtual machines.

  • Where is the location of the log files to diagnose the ESXi host server is rebooted?

    Hi all

Last night one of my ESXi host has rebooted itself for some unknown reason, is it possible to look in the log which make it restart?

I have access to this URL: https://ESXi02/host is it possible to know what can cause her to restart while a sudden?

    Thank you.

    AWT

The best option for ESXi newspapers must collect through the VI client. VMware recommends not any diagnosis directly on the console of the server because it has a small hyperviser and no service console.

  • several networks on esxi host

Is it feasible to have virtual machines belonging to different subnets on the host single esxi?

For ie) Esxi host has 3 network cards

VM machine 1 belongs to the 10.10.10.0/24 network

VM machine 2 belongs to the network 10.10.20.0/24

VM machine 3 is part of the 10.10.30.0/24 network

I just need to create 3 virtual switches for each network on the ESXi host and machinery VM 1, 2 and 3, assign the IP address accordingly?

Then the machine 1, VM on the machine itself, assign 10.10.10.10/24 and VM Machine 2, grant of the 10.10.20.10/24 and VM Machine 3, 10.10.30.10/24 and routing will be supported by the ESXi host?

Or do I need to create default routes on the ESXi host or VM machines?

If you use a VLAN, do I need to specify the VLAN ID, when the creation of the virtual switch within the ESXi host?

Since you use vLAN tagging to the vSwitch level rather thean the virtual machine port group level it will work as long that virtual machines are connected only to their approriate vSwitch configured to their vLAN.

  • Dell VRTX + vCenter 5.5 + Shared storage is ESXi host import issue in vCenter. Help, please!

    All,

I have two VRTX to be used for lab purposes that I am currently in configuration.

Blades feature 4 VRTX with a shared storage infrastructure. Each blade has 5.5 installed on ESXi.

I configured the shared on the VRTX storage, and all the blades can go very well.

The question I'm currently facing is when you add the vCenter for managing ESXi hosts.

Add the first host goes without a hitch. However, add any later host fail, because vCenter finds datastore attached hosts to have the same identifier.

The error message is (see the attached screenshot): ' Datastore 'Main Shared-storage' is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / vmfs/volumes/xxxxx /), but is supported by different physical storage.

Someone knows how to fix this?

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply.

I think that I have found a workaround.

First of all, this link does not address my particular issue.

See, it's a whole new vCenter device installation and configuration. Only one of the four hosts to add host has been added.

Still, the problem is that each ESXi host is a blade VRTX (M620), which has access to the data store created on the shared storage of VRTX.

Basically, each host is editing the data store shared even (the only data store created on the shared storage), which works very well except for vCenter complain when you import the hosts.

In any case, my resolution was as follows:

-Add the first host with the attached and mounted data store

-Remove the data store and detach the controller shared by other guests before adding in vCenter

-Re-attach the controller shared and set up the data store via vCenter once guests have been added

-Re-configure each host for vSphere HA if necessary

    Thank you.

  • Storage vMotion-Direct between ESXi hosts

    Hi all

It is my first time on the boards, I hope it's the right way to go on this subject.

I have problems with Storage vMotion, it's not a set up us would use normally, rather than by necessity with the current scenario.

We have a desktop which has 2 x 5.1 ESXi hosts. They do not have a budget for SAN with the installation of HBA, and it is only a single requirement. I have to migrate virtual machines from one to the other, but with no external storage. I wait with Storage vMotion directly from a local data store to another.

I activated the software iSCSI on both ESXi hosts

Created a vSwitch separated with a VMkernal on two physical hosts

The two VMkernals are on a separate subnet * 172.16.1 and production vSwitch is 192.168.5. *.

The NIC allocated for the 172.16.1 network. * is both connected to the same physical switch.

I ping the VMkernal and the vmkping the VMkernal

Scan for storage again and nothing shows up.

I used software iSCSI before, for a long time so I'm probably rusty. Dynamic discovery is normally indicated in the SAN to pick up storage, and finds it just local storage on each host itself.

In this scenario, I told the IP address of the ESX2 VMkernal on 172.16.1 ESX1. * since I have no external storage. I think it is, I'm wrong, but I don't know what else to do to recover local data warehouses.

Any ideas to try would be very appreciated.

    Thank you

Sorted by using 5.1 feature Shared-Nothing vMotion

  • How to reach esxi host 5 on storage area network

I have a Dell PS6000E on my network.  I would like to create a volume on it and use it as a shared storage for a new configuration of esxi5 with 2 hosts.  The PS6000 already contains 2 volumes in use by other servers (physical).  To access the PS6000 via my regular local network hosts.  Is this possible, and is there a documentation on how to put in place?

    Thank you

Welcome to the community - I guess you access the PS6000E are configured for iSCSI or NAS/NFS, you will be able to access as shared storage long ESXi hosts can reach the unit. Because ESXi hosts will not be able to share the LUNS in use by other servers, you're going to create a new LUN for ESXi hosts. This storage of ESXi - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-storage-guide.pdf - guide that has information on how to configure your ESXi servers to access the storage.

  • Do I need an IP NIC of each Esxi host address?  VMs needs access to the storage network?

    Hi all

The issue go, I have a host machine with 3 nic cards - > 1 for production network, 1 for the management network and 1 for the network backup.

The guest PC VM inside will be connected to the 3 network,

But for the host himself, will be used for management and backup only.

T1) is the bears from production on the need for level ESXI host having an IP address as well?

    =================================================================

Right of Q2) now my host use internal storage. If I'm to migrate to a SAN storage, I have 1 more network for storage.

I understand that the configuration of virtual machines and their data are assigned and stored in the data store that is made visible at the level of the host.

They must for the virtual machines access the data store, join the storage network as well? or they are access to the storage through the host

    ================================================================

    Kind regards

    Noob

T1) is the bears from production on the need for level ESXI host having an IP address as well?

A NIC itself does not require an IP address. Which IP addresses are required for VMkernel port groups (for example, networking, vMotion, storage access,...) as well as virtual machines.

Right of Q2) now my host use internal storage. If I'm to migrate to a SAN storage...

No, a virtual machine (i.e. the guest operating system) does not require access to the system of storage, only the ESXi host.
