Help with the hardware iSCSI initiator help

Hi all

I don't know if this is the right place... Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong community. I am a newbie in VMWare and attempt to install my first server VMWare (ESX 4.0)... I have a HP DL 380 G6 server and a storage Equallogic PS 5000 array. I have a card HBA Qlogic ELQ 4060C on the server. I installed successfully ESX 4 and when I am connected to the console of the VI Client service and checked the configuration tab, I could see the HBA Qlogic cards there. This means that ESX recognize the HBA. I have install a volume on the Equallogic configuration / control box by using the IP address I have set up for the Qlogic HBA. But even after several reboots and renumerisations BH is unable to see the volume. I'm doing something wrong here? What is the right way to install the HBA? Should I do something else to put in place? Any help or advice or pointers to documentation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you and best regards,

Rupesh

Hi Rupesh

First of all, you need not configure vmkernel for HWiSCSI network. As you say, it is only necessary for SWiSCSI.

Then, to configure HWiSCSI, make sure that you have provided the IP address, subnet, etc on the iscsi adapter. If not, configure this first either through the client adapter's bios vi/vc or hwiscsi. Make sure that this IP address can speak for the iscsi storage network.

Now, on the side of storage, MAPE to the IQN HWiSCSI iscsi lun. Provide the IP address of storage in the discovery address (dynamic discovery) or storage ip and IQN (Statici discovery)

Rescan the HBAS and you should be able to see the LUNS.

Thank you

    Hey guys,.

I have a hard time trying to imagine if the iscsi initiators software for vmware esx is a bunch of installable software that I need to download, or TI a bunch of settings that I need the value of the vmnic.

Please help. If I need to download and install them on the esx host, can you guide me as to where I can find them.

We run a free version of esx 3.5i, I don't see that would be a problem during the installation or the loading of the iscsi initiators, or would it?

    Thank you

Under adapters for storage in the Control Panel, you should see a SoftwareAdapter iSCSI.  Click it and then click Properties.  This should help you pointed in the right direction.  Under the security profile, you need to activate the customer iSCSI as well.  Otherwise it will be blocked by the firewall.

Let me know if you need more information.

  • Clean shutdown for EqualLogic PS6100 without stopping the host/iSCSI initiator

In fact, I've known the procedure on how to stop the Equallogic PS storage. But I have a question as well as the procedure.

Do you really need to stop the iSCSI initiator or the host connected to the storage before you shut down the storage controller?

Because we move the Equallogic box on the rack on the other. I just want to stop the Equallogic without stopping the hosts.

    Hello

The hosts are connected to some other storage that you want to keep as you move the table EQL?  If you stop the storage, it is similar to pulling on a hard drive in its operation.  Most of the time nothing bad will happen.  But all entries that did not allow the storage is lost.   For applications such as SQL or Exchange is not something you want.

If you need to keep the server up, stop all applications accessing the volumes, then disconnect all EQL volumes first, and then stop the EQL table.  Will be served waiting for the written word.

  • OPC servers OR with the hardware OR

    Hi all

We want to use the latest version of NI OPC (v. 4.27403.1 - U) servers for the collection of data from different sources (cDAQ, WSN) hardware. Has anyone have experience, how does it work? Material is NOT mentioned in the list of drivers NI OPC servers!

    Thanks for your support!

    Frank

    Frank,

You can set up a virtual DAQmx Global channel for each data source unique cDAQ, and you can use LabVIEW to write an application that runs on the WSN gateway programmable to publish the data received in the variables shared on the network. These two sources of data can be imported into the OPC server from OR.

To read the DAQmx virtual channels, create a new channel of NOR-OPC data, configure it to use the driver 'OPC DA Client' and select the 'Engine.1 of Instruments.Variable national"on the local computer as OPC server.

Then add a new device for each of your channels DAQmx (leaving the largest part of the default options clickable at the moment) and when he was asked to select items to import, find and select the global virtual channel DAQmx in the category "National Instruments.Variable Engine.1\System\DAQmx\" and click on "Add >".

  • Microsoft iSCSI Initiator with MPIO software

Use the Microsoft MPIO Software iSCSI initiator installed from an OS supported by VMware guest? Can you tell me analysis that supports this or not?

    Setup would be:

    (1) FAS of NetApp with two Ethernet ports, two IP addresses and two VLANS

    (2) guest operating system (2000, 2003, 2008) with the Microsoft iSCSI initiator installed/enabled and configured for failover or MPIO load balancing

    (3) don't know how to put in place the ESX network, either:

    (i) two physical ESX NIC physical, connected to two different physical switches and two vSwitches, each physical NETWORK adapter on the VLANS separated mentioned in point (1). Guest operating system with two network cards for, each vNIC connected to the separate vSwitches - MPIO configured to load balance/failover.

(II) active/passive team ESX physical NIC (not the choice here for active/active), connected to a unique vSwitch, both VLAN present at vSwitch. Guest operating system with two network adapters, each vNIC connected to the separate vSwitches - MPIO provisions set up two paths to the storage.

Other ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Most of the time, we ensure the redundancy of storage iSCSI network through the VMware network design:

    • a vNic dedicated for storing the virtual machine

  • CAN grasp the material master Timebase rate returns an error with new hardware OR XNET

    Hi all

I have a project that communicates on a CAN bus. It has always worked well with a PCI-CAN/2 card, but when I tried to use it in combination with an NI PCI-8512 (NOR-XNET) newly purchased card, it returns the following error:

"1074388560 error has occurred CAN set material master Timebase Rate.vi

NI-CAN: (Hex0xBFF621B0) the specified feature has a drawing or model under the NI_CAN which can be made compatible with the hardware, NI - XNET CAN. »

Yes, I have installed the NOR-XNET for NI-CAN compatibility library.

The error occurs during the initialization of the RTSI connections for synchronization, that VI is attached.

I guess that this code is based on an example found in LabView.

When I remove the BOX: block Set (material master time base rate) property, there is no error and the rest of the application seems to work very well.

Can someone explain what is / was some timebase setting the internal clock of 10 MHz before connecting a RTSI line for her?

Are there side effects caused by the elimination of this step?

Should I still include if I run the application in combination with the old card PCI-CAN/2?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Pianne,

Based on our discussion in class, it seems indeed as part of your existing code is written in a very specific way which is not entirely compatible with the XNET approach.

Indeed, it would be useful to have 2 separate versions of this init VI (and other CAN-code) of your code and allow you to decide which one to run your top-level application, depending on the setting used.
A HAL as approach could still be used in this case.
