help with vsphere client

Hi all

im a total newbie when it comes to vmware.

so, basically ive by learning to do visualization by myself because I poweredge 2 1950s during the sitting of the House doing nothing. so ive installed vmware esxi 5.5.0 on my server poweredge 1950 went to the IM address downloaded the vsphere client, put the username root and password waited then it comes up with "cannot complete, connect you because of incorrect username or password" where I can use the same username and password on the server to change the settings and get on no problem that continues?

Thanks in advance callum

To me, this looks like a keyboard mapping problem, for example by using a witch of password for example special characters on a non - US keyboard.

Can you confirm that you have selected the correct keyboard layout during the installation of the host?

What you can try is to change the password to something simple (for example, no special characters, or ' z/y') to see if that helps you.

Yes - it is freely permitted, but he he has limits and lack of features compared to the vSphere Essentials kits. Another thing to note is the absence of vCenter Server to manage multiple ESXi hypervisors with the free version. The backup API are, in my opinion, one of the main obstacles to the use of this.

  • ESX4 starts - but takes at least 20 minutes before I can connect with vsphere client!

Currently, three servers of ESX4. Two months ago, a loss of power and of the restart. Server #1 initialization until the connection to the console without problem. Unable to connect to the server using client vshpere immediately. After 20 minutes, the vsphere client connections began to work.

  • Very slow access to data on HP MIcroserver Gen8 warehouses. Can not change the system of booking resources with vSphere client.

I did a clean install of ESXi 6 with HP supplied image (ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.1.39-Mar2015).
Access to and from the warehouses of data over network via vSphere Client (6.0.0 - 2502222) is very slow - ~ 10 Mbps (there are several hundred under ESXi 5.5)
I suspect that ESXi 6 limited CPU resources used by the host to 230 MHz system.
I can't change the settings 'System Resource Reservation"(unlike ESXi 5.5, where I can change and switch to Simple or advanced mode).

    Hey ArnisR,

I finally found the problem. In the last 5.5 ESXi and version 6.0, they replaced the driver hpvsa (HP ISO vSphere!). With these drivers, I have known major problems with banks of data and, therefore, the controller B120i (RAID) of the Gen8 MicroServer HP.

    The problem is caused by the last (HP) ISO (from March);

    -Mar2015.iso 5.5.0 - Update2-2403361-HP - 550.9.2.27 VMware ESXi

    -Mar2015.iso 6.0.0 - 2494585-HP - 600.9.1.39 VMware ESXi

I found out (because I had an older ISO), the ISO VMware ESXi 5.5.0-Update2-2068190-HP-5.77.3-Nov2014.iso works well! With this ISO standard, all performance issues disappeared.

The difference between the ISO is as follows. The former ISO contains the driver of storage scsi-hpvsa 5.5.0 - 88OEM. ISO (s) of March come with new storage driver scsi-hpvsa 5.5.0 - 92OEM or scsi hpvsa - 5.5.0 - 90. These drivers are the cause of the problems in the controller of B120i!

Installing ESXi 5.5 or 6 since last ISOs, you must manually install the old driver of storage (SCSI hpvsa - 5.5.0 - 88). I tested with the HPSA file scsi vib - 5.5.0 - 88OEM.550.0.0.1331820.x86_64.vib. Then I adjusted the ISO HP and equipped with the old driver. Now I can install ESXi 5.5 or 6 ISO (custom) of HP, which includes the former driver.

    I hope this helps!

  • Unable to connect to new ESXi 5.5 with vSphere Client hosts

Completed the new installation of ESXi 5.5 on two new Dell PowerEdge servers last night.

Trying to connect to them through the vSphere client fails.

I can ping both servers without any problems from the server where the vSphere client is installed (it is not a domain controller but a Windows 2003 server - it has not .net 3.5 SP1 is installed).

If I try to open the IP address of the host in a web browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx expires, however, if I try http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:902 It connects to the server, but rather than get the web page, I'm used to waiting with 5.1 I get this message:

"220 VMware authentication daemon Version 1.10: required SSL, ServerDaemonProtocol:SOAP, MKSDisplayProtocol:VNC, VMXARGS taken in charge, taken NFCSSL in charge." I get this exact message even though I have telnet to port 902.  So I know that I can speak to the host, but have no idea why I can't connect to it or they have the tools to display in a web browser. »

Try to use the same IP address with port 902 in the vSphere client to connect, I get this error:

vSphere Client could not connect to "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx".

A unknown connection error has occurred. (The client received an invalid response from the server. (The server committed a protocol violation. Article = ResponseStatusLine))

I noticed that there was a lag of 2 hours and 4 minutes between the host server and the client's server.  I have reset the time to match up in the BIOS of the host server.  The test gave the same results.

Probably unrelated, but throw it out there in case it points to an answer, when executing the "Test management network", ping passes to the default gateway and the DNS server secondary (which is Google 8.8.8.8) but fails for the main DNS (local IP) server and host name resolution is faulty.

Ideas, help or solution would be much appreciated.  I need to get the network to this customer virtualized this week, and I would prefer not to have to go back to 5.1 if possible.

    Thank you

    This is resolved.

And it's one of those things that you just kick yourself for.

I tried this on two servers, Server 2003 and using IE8

Tested a theory using a VPN to my laptop Windows 8 IE 10 and it has worked perfectly, then tested on a Server 2008 R2 using IE9 and it worked perfectly.

Installed Chrome on the two Server 2003 servers and worked perfectly.

So in the end it was IE8 that was not compatible and all the problems at the origin!

Thanks again to you Andrew for trying to help!

  • Error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when you try to use a disk with vSphere Client

    Hi all

I searched exhaustively positions but found no answear that.

I'm trying to access a virtual disk that is free (no machine not in use now).

For this purpose, I am went to a virtual computer, then clicked on edit settings - & gt; Add hard drive - & gt; use a disc

Then, when I am prompted for the disk, I select it and click ok.

When I click on 'Next', you will receive the following message:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object

(it seems really in Spanish: Referencia an object no set como UN instance object)

And then the next button appears as non-cliquable.

    Any suggestions?

It could be related to the .NET Framework, so I write here the versions I have currently installed:

    .NET framework 2.0 SP1 LanguagePack

    .NET framework 2.0 SP2

.NET framework 3.0 SP1 language pack

    .NET framework 3.0 SP2

    .NET framework 3.5 SP1

    All this with the patches.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Juan J.

PS: I found there was information about the lost pilots and VSphere Client. I already changed those:

    %RootDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual infrastructure Client\Launcher

    Where I copied libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll

I would then watch the logs on the ESXi console.

Re-create the error, and then search for log entries that appear at the same time.  That should shed more light on what could be causing it.

    Good luck!

  • Cannot connect to the ESXi 5.5 with VSphere client

I have a new Dell server. I installed ESXi 5.5. I can ping and SSH in the host, but I can not connect with the vsphere client. I captured the vmkernel and host agent log management. I'm confused now as to what is the cause. I installed ESXi 5.5 on an SD card in the server. And like I said I can ping and SSH in the host.

OK, I found that it was associated with MTU, MTU under voltage has been set at 1500. These are Dell switches if it matters. I removed the MTU setting for the management ports and then I was able to connect to vsphere with no problems.

  • New Vsphere servers (2), cannot connect with vsphere client

It's strange, that it is a new construction on 2 new servers. With ESXi5 it really doesn't matter what config install so there is nothing to screw it up, so I did the installation of STD, then tried to connect to the server with the client and I get 'call 'ServiceInstance.RetrieveContent' to object 'ServiceInstance' on the server '10.70.1.20' failed.

    This happens on both servers.

Other messages suggest it is because of the attempts to connect using HTTP instead of HTTPS, but I do not use a prefix, just the IP address.

If I type the IP address of the server in a browser, I get the standard server ESXi web page so IP connectivity is fine.

The other strange bits is that I have 3 ESXi 5 server to different hardware built using the same media that works well.

The vi client log shows this:

    < type = "VirtualInfrastructure.Exceptions.ConnectionError error" >
< message > the customer has not received a full response from the server "10.70.1.20". (The underlying connection was closed: an unexpected error occurred during the reception.) < / message >
    < InnerException type = "System.Net.WebException" >
< message > the underlying connection was closed: an unexpected error occurred on a receive. < / Message >
    < InnerException type = "System.IO.IOException" >
< message > received an unexpected EOF or 0 bytes of the transport stream. < / Message >
    < / InnerException >
    < Status > ReceiveFailure < / status >
    (snipped)
If I enable SSH and SSH on the server, try PuTTY gives me an error 'incoming packet was scrambled on decryption.
It seems therefore that encryption is screwed somehow, but since I can't connect to the server I'm strugglin for troubleshooting options?
    Any ideas?

    https://www.VMware.com/support/vsphere5/doc/vSphere-ESX-vCenter-Server-50-release-notes.html

    From the release notes:

Using the env of BE2/BE2 Emulex Group (pilot be2net)
When using vSphere 5.0 with Emulex BE2/BE3 NIC (pilot be2net) in an environment FlexFabric/Flex-10 HP or IBM Virtual fabric adapter (VFA), connectivity may not work properly on virtual machines Windows or server when them VLAN is configured.

Workaround: Do not use the driver included with vSphere 5.0. Before the upgrade to vSphere 5.0, you can get an updated of Emulex, HP or IBM driver that should be used on HP FlexFabric/Flex-10 or IBM VFA systems.

  • Control an ESXi server with vSphere client on the internet?

I work for a company who manage multiple servers, most of which run ESXi. There are times where the machine virtual which is y executed is insensitive, or the crash. When this occurs often we have no other choice than to see and access the console from a client within the network. I was wondering if it was possible for me to open a port like 12345 and move to the ESXi host, giving me access to his inventory and power VM States and all the usual stuff, only remote rather than within the network. I want to know if it's possible, and what are the ports are necessary for me to do. I am aware that you can install as a virtual machine and the remote client in this, but I prefer to keep things as they are. I just want access to host servers ESXi by opening the Client vSphere on my own machine remotely and feeding the external IP address of customers and manage that way. Thanks for your time.

    Hello..

Yes, it is indeed possible... All the ports that are required to achieve this are listed in the KB below:

TCP and UDP Ports required to access other network, ESX hosts and vCenter Server components

  • Need help with vSphere data script, packaging and sending it to the data warehouse

    Greetings PowerCLI gurus.

Everyone can offer suggestions on a script which can query vSphere and pull on the following fields of the virtual computer:

    NameStateStatusHostSpace in useSpace used

Format in a file in the CSV format and send the file to an FTP server?

Much respect to all, thanks a lot in advance.

    Hello-

    Happy to help you.

OK, well, if this database is accessible through a UNC path, you might make a copy directly using Copy-Item.  If you use different credentials, you can encrypt and store in an XML file.  HAL Rottenberg wrote to do http://halr9000.com/article/531.

Or, if this pension data is something that supports the secure copy (scp) or secure FTP (SFTP), those who would be good options.  Again, you can store the alternative credentials in an encrypted in an XML file format and use them as needed.

Certainly, there is a balance to be struck between security and ease of use.  It may be such that the transmitted data are not considered sensitive to all, and clear data transfers are acceptable.  Probably still a good idea to take measures to protect the credentials at least.

  • Enlarge vdisk with vSphere Client funded

A virtual machine has two hard disks put in service in the data store.  HD1 is with the operating system and the HD2 has applications and data.

HD2 is independent and persistent.  HD1 had pictures taken.

I need to increase the size of the HD1, but cannot.  Size provisioned is gray (say 20 GB that is correct); size max says N/A

HD2 allows me to increase the size put into service.

Two virtual hard disks are in the same data store, and there is enough free space.

Why can't I increase the size of the HD1 provisioned?

When I browse the data store, I see different versions of the HD1 virtual disk.  If I right click and try to inflate - I get an error saying that a specified parameter was not supplied.

Bottom line - what is the best way to increase the size of the virtual disk.  I don't want to recreate the virtual server.

To increase the size of the disk virtual you must first delete all snapshots.

  • Unable to connect to esxi using the vsphere client

    Hello friends,

    I need a little help.

a 2 5.0 esxi host and a vcenter than VM.

My laboratory worked well for days, but all of a sudden do not know why I am not able to connect to ESXi hosts with vSphere Client.

Error: The request failed because the remote server has taken too long to respond.

Call "ServiceInstance.RetrieveContent" to "ServiceInstance' server '192.168.1.101' object failed.

Yes, I am able to connect to vCenter server, when it is connected to vCenter and open the console of the virtual computer, nothing shows up, it's a black screen, as if the virtual machine is turned off. It is with all the virtual machines on both hosts.

    1. I thought that it might have to do something with vCenter and I tried connecting to Host individually which I wasn't able to.

After completing a few KBs on vmware and some articles, I checked the status of the firewall on both hosts. (attached screenshot)

    8-7-2013 2-11-16 AM.png

Checked if my computer can talk to esxi host on port 80, 443, 902. all ports are accessible.

Disabled the Symantec endpoint protection and checked. no positive results.

Finally, I tried the ESXi web navigation browser host http://ESXi-IP-address which redirects me to HTTPS connection with Certificate error, when I continue with the cert error, loading of the URL guard and the host page doesn't appear as it should.

This questions are on both hosts. :-(

You guys can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

    Thank you.

    Finally things started working now.

The problem was with the configuration of the workstation's NETWORK adapter.

The link on the NETWORK adapter speed was set to Auto negotiate (default), but the speed was detected as 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps and MTU has been set at 9014 which I defined manually long back.

Things use to operate in this configuration that I have configured hosts with MTU 9000 and cisco SMB switch default Jumbo.

the LinkSpeed of 100 Mbps is bugging me, after changing to 1 Gbps (manual setting) the card NETWORK has deactivated, and it reminded me to switch!

So I put the LinkSpeed Auto negotiation, MTU 9014, stop the two hosts, restart the switch. restarted my computer.

Since it uses for things were in a normal state.

Even the question of the console (black screen) disappeared. :-)

  • Symbol warning on one of my hosts, VCenter in VSphere client?

When I connect to my server VCenter with VSphere Client, one of my guests has a symbol attention to it, but I can't understand why. I looked into the events and the last even that my CPU usage went to Green said.  I don't know where else to look at. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the Summary tab to see if there are any warnings - for example SSH enabled. Check the tab also alarms and ensure that you have launched alarms selected (as opposed to the definitions of the alarm). You may also go to the top of the tree to see if the alarm is on the cluster, or DC, etc.

    For example, you see a warning at the level of the host;

    There is no alarm triggered;

    But on the summary, here's the warning tab / issue;

JAI can be florent a few things could you help me find a solution pour connect me to my server esxi via my MacBook?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Castillo,

    Welcome to the VMware forums.

Unfortunately, he is there a client not pay the Unix and Linux. It is available for Windows. There is a Web client but it doesn't install on the vCenter (see this KB for more info: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1006095 ).

One solution could be to move a Windows VM on your Mac and administer your ESXi from this machine. If your server is a production machine, not just for testing, you can also take a look at VMware Go. It is a service in the cloud.

    Good luck!

    A +.
