HH5 BT + Time Capsule from Apple

Really hoping someone can help with what it drives me crazy!

First of all of background... I got broadband to Plusnet inheriting from their router "technicolor" with my TC attached via a fiber cable. Home network proceeded without the TC wire, sky + worked perfectly (wired and wireless) to transport CANADA, the Mac Mini worked perfectly (wired and wireless) of transport CANADA and the MacBook Air, iPhones and iPads everything has worked perfectly to TC. TC has saved Mac Mini and MacBook Air via Time Machine. This worked perfectly for years, since the establishment. Then...

Seduced by a lot of BT and Plusnet (rare) indifference I changed to BT infinity earlier this year and became the proud owner (?) of their "state of the art" HomeHub 5. Think about what I had to do was swap HH5 and router Technicolor more naïve in the extreme! I searched online and found many people with similar questions and have tried all of the solutions proposed, but I still can't get everything working properly. BT don't/can't help that HH5 works and TC has "nowt don't we! So where am I at?

Using only HH5, everything works perfectly. Once I introduce TC everything can work perfectly for about 15 minutes then I lose the internet connection. All being wired to the Mini, the TC "is unavailable" for Time Machine. I've tried honestly each piece of advice there re order of connections, resets, mode bridge etc but I'm so frustrated by all this. What I want to return to East TC providing the wireless network for home and backups of TM TC the Mini (cable) and Air (wireless). If I can't then I'll reluctantly settle for HH5 providing wi - fi and TC offering only backup functions.

On the Mini and Air, I'm under 10.11.6 and I updated the firmware of TC.

Can someone please help me with this? Thank you.

Think about what I had to do was swap HH5 and router Technicolor more naïve in the extreme! I searched online and found many people with similar questions and have tried all of the solutions proposed, but I still can't get everything working properly.

Unfortunately, if you have tried all the suggested solutions, as you well note... (we do not know what were these)... it is unlikely that we will be able to offer something new.

But just in case... because we do not want to ask you to repeat things you already have... could you provide a list of the things you have already tried?

Sometimes... even though the HH5. is a good modem/router and the TC is a good router so... products do not work well together. This could be the case here.

After all, when things work well and you make a change on your network, and then things don't work correctly... ask yourself ' what has changed?  I think you know the answer.

I installed a Time Capsule from Apple on my network.  It seems to work very well.  I need to use it to back up my external drive (if possible)

    Can someone give me directions?

    Thank you

    Jean S

If you use Time Machine, open the system preferences pane, click Options, and remove the external drive from the exclusion list. It is not possible for all formats of volume.

If you use a different backup product, see its documentation.

  • Can I use time capsule from Apple and an external hard drive that is connected to my Mac at the same time to save?

I have an external hard drive (1 TB ADATA HV620) and a time capsule of Apple 2009. So far I have used the external drive-DATA to back up regularly on my Mac, but it uses one of my USB slots. I would like to start using the time capsule from Apple to everything back up, as it does so wireless, but I still want to be able to back up by using the ADATA hard drive occasionally. Is it possible to use two devices to back up or can I use only one device? Thank you.

You can use the two devices, but Time Machine... If that's what you use to back up... can back up only to a disc at a time. So if you set up Time Machine to back up on both discs, it will support drive until one first, then the other after the first drive of the backup is complete.

  • Cannot view or connect to the Wifi network of 5 GHz with Time Capsule from Apple 5th generation

I have a new Apple Time Capsule 2 TB with 802.11ac network support. I have setup my base station in order to disseminate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network SSID. I have 2 apple (iPad Mini and Macbook Pro) time devices can see and connect to Terminal 5 GHz network however I have also a Lenovo Vibe P1 phone (dual band wifi supported) and Samsung Galaxy Tab S compressed (dual band wifi supported) and these devices cannot see or connect to the network of 5 GHz of Base Station. I also have a Cisco router that has a dual-band support and all my devices can see and connect to the network of 5 GHz of this router.  So I wonder why I have this problem with time capsule?

I have reset my base twice station and it is a new device purchased last month.

Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

Did you use the SMB compatible names for everything...?

That is to say the alphanumeric short, without spaces and Pure...

for example base station name... TCgen5

    name TCwifi wireless

Have you also used the password corresponding to these requirements... but can be between 8 and 20 characters.

If so, then you must give a different name to 5 GHz and delete the password and test... If it's not yet connect the test manually on channels 36, 44, and 149 for example if you are in the USA...

  • What is the best way to connect a time capsule from the airport to an existing dsl router?

I have a Netgear D6300 router with built-in ADSL modem and I'm getting a time capsule from the airport. I thought to put the D6300 in Bridge mode and connect the TC via a ethernet cable but my netgear router is kept in a metal TV armoire or I asked myself if I put on the floor and used to extend my existing wireless which is a little spotty on the floor, but I didn't know if the connection on the hard drive would be too slow. However I read in another post is no longer that apple supports the extension of networks of "no apple"?

The time Capsule will connect to the Netgear router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, permanent... no matter how you decide to configure things.

Regarding the location, Time Capsule can be located just about anywhere that it will allow an Ethernet connection. If you want to time Capsule to "extend" the wireless Netgear, and then configure the time Capsule to create a new wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password than the Netgear router. The result will be a network of 'big '.

Should be a lot more work, but assuming that the Netgear gateway can be configured to work as only a simple modem, the Capsule can be configured as the primary network router.

  • Unable to connect to a Time Capsule - router Apple´s

I bought a Time Capsule (Apple´s built-in wifi router and hard drive). My Vista laptop can connect to the network, but it can't get internet access or disk access network hard. I have a mix of different devices connected to the router without a problem, only the Vista PC gives me a hard time. The laptop is 18 months, HP with Vista and SP1.

If I leave the network open (without encryption) PC Vista connects very well - both internet and hard drive. I tried to configure the network with different encryption, WPA2, WPA, WEP, etc.. The only thing that works is without encryption, which is obviously not a solution. If I wire the network connection, the Vista computer works also very well, but that no solution for me.

In various Apple forum, this problem is known and discussed, but that no one could come up with a solution, so I hope that a post here can help me, so I can raise my last computer on my network.

    Hello

Many Apple and Vista/Win7 routers have this problem. Two things you can try is updating the firmware of the
the router and update your network (NETWORK and WiFi card) drivers on the computer.

Good luck. Rob - bicycle - Mark Twain said it is good.

  • time capsule to Apple airport

Airport apple creates its own wifi?

    Yes

  • Airport Apple Time Capsule vs Rogers Advanced WiFi Modem Configuration

Between the use of the advanced WiFi modem from Rogers and airport Time Capsule from Apple - a better/more strong WiFi signal will offer?

I'm under Apple Airport time Caro as my router now (with Rogers Advanced WiFi modem mode 'bridge').    However - my WiFi connection is weak/inconsistent even after adding 1 Airport Express to extend the network.    My Modem/router are connected with a 2 foot Cat6 my ground floor, with the Airport Express on the floor to extend the reach (via WiFi - not the ethernet connection).

When I reset my router/modem, get full power - however, after a couple days I get slower speeds.

Any ideas how to fix?  Users are finding you work better than the other?

Between the use of the advanced WiFi modem from Rogers and airport Time Capsule from Apple - a better/more strong WiFi signal will offer?

Turn on the Rogers modem in router mode and launch his wifi... Plug the TC and run it in bridge, but also launch wireless audio... There is absolutely NO reason not to use both... You will often find the 2.4 ghz superior to the airport the Rogers Wireless. Apple has deliberately reduced its speed... If you need set channels wireless manual... for example of Rogers on the TC on Channel 6 and channel 11.

5 GHz has penetration and poor range, especially when you look at the wireless signal directly above or below any router... It is of course extremely beneficial to use ethernet between the floors... Run the Rogers down and move the TC on the floor... that gives you much better signal allows you to get the most out of two wireless routers.

Extend (Repeater) wireless using the Express will condemn you slow wireless forever. Repeaters by their nature even halve the speed of the connection... and if you place the Express in a poor signal area... getting worse. Express should be located to midway between the two... no physical distance but the power of the signal... If it gets bad signal, it will give terrible results since its own signal will be strong for customers.

Test it... give up the Express... run ethernet to the top of the stairs and just try it with the TC to the right place.

  • Setting up Time Capsule 3 to

Advice please, I'm a little confused as to how set up my Airport Time Capsule to do what I want it to do.

    I currently have:

-A "Superhub" recently installed offering fast home Internet access via a cable fibre optic supplier.

-J' bought a Time Capsule from Apple before hand and want to put it up to do the following:

-Connect two external hard disks accessible storage from my Mac Mini and MacBook (USB connection).

-To connect a USB printer accessible to these two computers, (more than the iPad and an IPhone).

(Meanings attached to the ATC via a USB hub)

-Use 3 TB storage in ATC as a backup Time Machine of Mac Mini and MacBook.

I understand that ATC must be connected on the beautiful via Ethernet to the WAN socket cable to a plug on the hub.

I'd be grateful if someone could please explain/point me to an explanation that describes how to set up my Mac Mini ATC in order to achieve the above requirement clearly and in simple terms.

    Thank you very much

Before you begin, you must understand that to connect a printer to the USB port on the Time Capsule, as the iPhone and iPad iOS devices will NOT be able to print to the printer?

That being said, a third party application like Printopia pourrait be able afford this, but there are no guarantees, and our ability to help on such things is limited, at best.

The reason is that iOS devices required an AirPrint -compatible printer that connects to a wireless network. In other words, Apple takes the 'Air' in AirPrint very seriously.  Please take a look at this support document Apple for more information on AirPrint compatible printers.

    On AirPrint - Apple Support

Order of the day. Depending on the brand and model of your printer, your Mac may or may not be able to print on a printer connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.  Unfortunately, Apple does not provide a list of compatible devices in this regard.

So, while we provide some tips on 'how to' attempt to put in place, we cannot tell you if it will work or not. Not sure how well... or if it will work until you try it on your own network.

We will try to help, but normally, you could get information on how to set up your printer by people of support for your printer, not to Apple.

Regarding the connection of two hard disks and a printer to the USB port of Time Capsule, this will require the use of a powered USB hub which manages devices USB 4 or more.  The problem... some powered USB hubs will not accept a USB to operate simultaneously, so you wouldn't be able to print, for example, while you have been back up data on a hard drive connected to the powered hub.

So, you will need to check with people of powered support for your hub to ensure he will allow the simultaneous for USB devices use.

If you want to move forward, we can help get the set up time Capsule and work with your Superhub, but our ability to help printers and hard drives may be limited.

  • Time capsule as external hard drive

Can I simply move my films and documents through the viewfinder to use it as a drive external hard time capsule from apple?

An 'external' drive is one in which the Player connects directly to a Mac... like a USB or a FireWire drive.

The Capsule is a reader of 'network', which means that it connects to the network router, the Mac then connects the network to the time Capsule.

The difference. Please keep in mind that the time Capsule is designed to store backups of your Mac using the application Time Machine on your Mac.

While other data may be stored on the Time Capsule, it is not a good idea to do so.  One reason for this is that users sometimes want to move the data from their Mac at the time Capsule to create more space on the hard drive to the Mac. Once that data has been moved over the time Capsule, users then often delete data on their Macs.

Big mistake. When--not if... Time Capsule has a problem, the only copy movies or documents that the user flies over from their Mac is on the time Capsule... and now that the data are not available and will be probably lost.

A much better solution would be to connect a USB drive or FireWire directly to the Mac and then have Time Machine back up the Mac and the USB to the time Capsule.  In this way, you have 'original' data on a drive and "backups" on another drive... the minimum it takes to a backup plan.

  • Access the 4th generation Time Capsule data remotely in Mac and PC

    Hi all

I intend to log in case Apple support, but my Service and Support coverage is already expired > _ <.

Apple PC does not support mobile devices like IOS or android, so in this top, I'll focus on Mac and PC.

Appreciate if you guys could give me advice on how to set it up properly.

    Material and Configuration:

    -ASUS RT-AC5300

    Firmware version: last 3.0.0.4.380_3341 - g25420f5

    IP: 192.168.1.1

-Configured Port forwarding, Port 548 to 192.168.1.85 in ASUS router

-Time Capsule from Apple 4th generation (Firmware version: 7.6.7 last)

    IP: 192.168.1.85

-Cable for direct LAN connection between TC Apple and ASUS router

I can access my Apple TC LAN for PC and Mac (for PC, installed the Base Station Agent from the airport, for Mac, I access it via the Finder with credentials for password)

Tried several times to set the TC to be able to access remotely to both Mac and PC platform, also read many articles, no luck.

Grateful if someone here can guide me on how to configure it so that it works correctly.

In your Mac, in the finder, use Go, connect to the server.

    Type of AFP://yourpublicIP

Download your public IP address of the router asus news... remote WAN you should use DDNS... iCloud is useless... disable in the TC... It does not work behind another router for most people.

But you must use the public IP address or DDNS address... It is available in the Asus firmware. Best is to buy a static public IP address from your ISP... This is the only reliable method... is worth a bit of money on a dynamic IP.

This is unnecessary for Windows computer... Access SMB is usually blocked by ISP and Windows does not support AFP.

Please post your pictures directly here... It's so much easier, then, for us to see.

  • Time capsule with backup HD on a MBP with SSD?

    Hello world

I recently bought a Time Capsule from Apple and saved my full 500 GB hard drive which is on my Macbook Pro 13 "(modèle fin 2011)." I was wondering what I need and what will happen if I buy a Macbook Pro the retina which will have an SSD (probably more small size), but also a different logic board?

-Is the capsule will be recognized by the new Macbook Pro retina and I will be able to continue to save on it, to add?

-I will be able to access the files that I backed up the MBP Late 2011 by accessing the retina MBP with time Capsule?

There's something else I should be aware of the based on the experience of each?

Thanks a lot for your help and your advice!

On the first startup of the new machine, the installation wizard will ask you if you want to move your user name for the new Machine. Highly recommended for a transition seamles.

From then after that after a reboot or two and the first time that you start the TM/TC upward it will ask you if you want to "inherit" the TM. Yes

  • Failure of the airport Time Capsule?

I have a Time Capsule from Apple Airport – 2 TB (ME177LL/A). Today, I was unable to access the drive in the finder for the first time. The airport icon does not appear in airport utility. More than a month, no real change in my machine, no new installed apps, I've upgraded to El Capitan. I did some research on Google and found the only real option for me (after a power power off to the airport and my machine) is to reset the router to factory settings which I seem to have done. In addition to killing the wifi (which was still working before reboot), the Airport now appears under the button "other Wi - Fi devices (1). But whenever I select which and it attempts to connect (so I can probably do a manual installation) it fails and merely says that an unexpected error has occurred. I don't know if I lost all my files on the disk, since this seems to be a failure any which allows to treat the router itself. He was still working as a bridge providing internet and Wi - Fi before the reset, now it only provides internet for everything that it is hooked up via ethernet.

I had some of my gripes with this product over the years, but the lack of diagnostic information is now slightly irritating. Is there something else for me to do a short delivery to another zero?

First of all... no files will be lost on the hard drive... for this, TC would fail to start or have a disk failure error...

Your questions are totally El Capo... and pretty typical.

Why should he choose now occur instead of a month ago... done installing part of the pleasure of the wireless network adapter... It's frightfully little reliable.

I want you to do it again... Yes I know.. Sorry...

Disconnect the TC of the network and plug in ethernet on the computer... However leave the radio on... Apple depends on increasingly less reliable network strategy.

    Do a complete factory reset.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

N.b.: any of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted... This erases just the settings of the router of the TC.

Go in the wireless and ethernet on the computer and make sure you have IPv6 well positioned to post a local link only. for example...

It is set to automatic might be the reason why you have problems... one day he autoed to bad settings... Auto is a plan for a disaster.

Now, try and open the configuration of TC in airport utility... No luck... do it manually...

Accept this self... is always a bad idea... so here go us.

    1. click on file and set up the other.

    2. Enter the IP... always 10.0.1.1 after a reset. No password necessary yet.

    3. now you can see all parts of the installation... you will go to each tab to make configuration.

    4. in the first place is the Base Station... and change the name... in short, no spaces and highly recommended pure alphanumeric characters.

Ditto for passwords. Internet will be DHCP for most people having nothing else... then wireless

Then the network... Choose what you want yourself... you are now in control.

For most people, they will be set to DHCP and NAT or Off (Bridge Mode)

    5. Once you have finished making changes... update allows to configure them for the TC... and wait until it restarts...

If all is good it will come back on the main use.

If it still errors just click on TC icon and go back into the setup and fix anything there.

Any step fails to tell me that that...

You may need to switch to ethernet, if you have any problems, if.

In airport utility now ethernet is under other devices Wi - Fi... that makes no sense at all. Ethernet will only appear when it is connected and working.

  • You can access time capsule iTunes library using the Airport express

    Hello

I I have an Apple Airport express and listen to music from my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. I have just bought a Time Capsule from Apple and saved my MacBook to this. I would like to listen to the music of my Time Capsule, as is always on.

Anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you

Unfortunately, your new Time Capsule is not an iTunes server. This is, in itself, it can not stream audio files stored on the internal hard drive to an AirPort Express or Apple TV point. You will still need to use iTunes on your MBP to do. You would just point to the media library on your Time Capsule in the case of iTunes. (Note: However, if your iTunes library is stored on the Time Capsule as a Time Machine backup, this no longer works.) "It will take a stand-alone copy of the one that was on your MacBook.)
