  • Trying to access the files on an external drive. It is denied. Some files are accessable. / problem solved. But please help me learn.

    Hello.

I use XP Home 32-bit Edition. My a-external hard drive is a Western Digital My Book Essential 1.5 Tb USB2 HARD drive: model number: WDBAAF0015HBK-00.

I can't access all files on the external hard drive. Currently, I mounted it on a folder. I have some files tif on the external hard drive and wanted to access my photos.

The message that I had to right click and select open with was "access to C:\(Folder tree) denied." I tried my programs and the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer of image editing. Nothing works.

When I right click on the images of problem the only options I have are: open, print, edit, Preview, open with, send to. None of these work.

Some files are not accessible, and others. Unaccessable files do not have a preview image in the window pane (on the lower left side when I'm in the folder).

This can happen if I didn't 'delete safetly' external hard drive or there was a Brown out? Some of the tif are too long file extensions? Shouldn't windows warn me too long file extensions?

I consulted the havn't the reader for a while.

I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files. When I click on a file, and then click file - properties: nothing shows up and he says: size: 0 bytes, size on disk: 0 bytes. But when I click on the file in the folder, it says that it is 23.3 MB. I can move the folder on my desktop.

When I select all the files and click on file - properties: it is said attributes: read-only and hidden. They are green in box, I have not did those and it does not work. I clicked on Advanced Options, again I had unstapled the ReadOnly and hidden, then I unchecked all 4 options because they were greenboxed too. It's green boxes, not the check marks in both situations. What are the green boxes?

Fixed a problem. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it. At this point, I just thought, since I had problems with the music files (mp3 or wav) is too long and is not be able to access or remove them, but I can delete the folders to get rid of them.

So my question is why am I unable to access the files? This is a limitation of my external hard drive? Can I test or repair? What is this kind of disk with this version of Windows? What is a format? It's NTFS. Computer management indicates that the external drive is healthy.

It seems that some files are not named as long as others and I could access those. Is there a limit on character/attribution of Tif or all types of files? If so, is it the same? Pourrait - linked to the way in which the external (or internal drive?) is setup in the policies tab? Are each disk different? They seem to be a little more limited than the internal hard drives, but I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the usb2.

Does anyone know if there is a program or a way to know how many letters or numbers have been used? Microsoft Word and Works a number of words, but Works 9 (I have that) doesn't have a number of letter.

Contradict you yourself.  At one point, you said:

    > I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files.
    and then you say:
    > A problem fixed. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it.

This side, the general approach to access in this case is "Ownership" of these files.

This probably occurred because the files were created on different computers by users with different Secure ID (SID) or you have reinstalled Windows and files were protected to some extent.  Since you are using XP Home Edition, the only way to see the security settings is to start your computer using safe mode and log in as an administrator.  This will give you access to the 'Security' tab when you right-click on a file and select 'Properties' (as described in the article above).  Apart from connecting with Safe Mode, you can use 'Cacls' command from a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") to view or change permissions on files

some files are missing (like network, Control Panel, systems, windows components) under administrative group policy template kindly help me on this

In the Group Policy Editor, right-click on administrative templates, add/remove templates.

    Usually, you would see:

    CONF
    Inetres
    System
    Wmplayer
    sooper

If some are missing, add them as follows:

Click Add and it will open a folder where you can add the missing elements to match the list back in, or to match the list on a system that works correctly.

Restart to make sure that the changes stick.

Each component has a history, you can Google for more information.

  • Why some files are locked when scanning

Why some files are locked during scanning. I use avg and scan of the entire computer. can anyone help?
p.s., no other suggestions posted already worked.

    Ref: http://forums.avg.com/au-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=212602

Please be informed that the locked files (files) also have access rights. If you run the command line scanning (or manual scanning of the AVG User Interface), it runs with the rights of the logged-on user. But to access some files (e.g. System Volume Information) you must have the rights SYSTEM (and similar).
AVG scan on demand is executed with SYSTEM rights (under the SYSTEM account).

    • Locked file
The reported file is locked, so cannot be scanned by me. Usually, this means that some files are constantly used by the system (e.g. swap file).
  • Which files are safe from my C drive to another drive

I understand that Vista partitions the hard drive into 2 discs. On mine, it seems to be C (Vista) and E (data). My C drive is now full to 90%, while the E drive is (90%) free. I said I should move some files from drive C on the E drive to free up space. I was given good advice? If so, which files are safe to fly over as I really don't want to lose something important. As you can see, my computer knowledge is very basic and any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Thank you Walter,.

There are 113 GB on drive E. There is a folder there called recovery of HARD drive, but the drive is definitely called DATA. Should I continue to move files?

    Thank you

    Darren

    Hey daz4239

«There is a folder in there called HARD drive recovery»

in where? not in the partition data is it

If you somehow a collection folder in the application data partition to the manufacturer of the computer to this topic

You should already have recovery disks form the 'record' in recovery

  • The addition of blackBerry Smartphones release: some files are missing signatures

I am trying to create a new product for the Playbook. I correctly signed my bar, checked by opening and by trying on two different rules. But when I try to add an exit I get this error: 'some files are missing signatures' in the 'Add files' dialog

What is going on? How can I solve this problem?

    EDIT:

Here's a screenshot of the error.

I now have a signed application verified.

It was my fault for "CN" fields or the way I packed up the file bar. Compare my current application:

  • Satellite A100: some files are missing when copying DVD on the desktop

    Hello

Suppose I have 1000 files on a DVD.
I drag all these files in the desktop, all of a sudden I see this is 920 files.
    If some files are missing.

    What this may be?
There are no errors. I don't think that something is wrong.
I initially thought maybe hidden files are counted in the DVD, but not on the desktop?
    Maybe something on the desktop?

Anyone have any ideas? I tried to put it on 'To see the hidden files' - it's a Toshiba A100.

I just ran a scan antivirus on this file and it let's say 1500 files analyzed.
Haha. Antivirus but probably scanned all etc. desktop.ini and Thumbs.db.
.. And maybe Windows Vista now have those when you want to display the number of files?

  • LR5 catalog: why some files are preceded by a triangle dotted?

Catalogue of the Lightroom 5, some files are preceded by a triangle dotted while others appear in solid lines. What do these "dotted" and that do pay "regularize"?

    Thank you for your help

The "solid" triangles indicate that there is the subfolders under the folder visible while the 'dashed' or 'Greyed-out' triangles show that there are no subfolders. "

No action is required on your part to standardize, it is just a hint of visualization.

  • Attempts to migrate files, but some files are invisible to me

    Description of the problem:

Old PC died, but hard drive was fine. Bought a new PC, removed old hard drive from the old computer, used an adapter to connect the old hard drive to new computer (this part has functioned well).

My music files are of several types:

    (1) some were bought on itunes

    (2) some have purchased from amazon

    (3) some have been saved out of vinyl into digital copies

    (4) some were regular old CD that I have loaded on my old PC

These different file types, they are all visible on my existing iPod, and I use my PC with iTunes to manage my music. The files that I can not find were all old CD I had loaded my previous PC (or even the one before that). About 100 "albums" are not appearing in my newly migrated iTunes library. In addition, they do not appear on my old hard drive, but they WERE on the old PC and the old iTunes library.

Question: What happens here? and I can do to make these files visible? I looked in all the existing files, and they are not visible anywhere. I don't have these CD most of the time. I fear that I must buy the albums again.

Second question: if I sync my iPod with 400 albums of my iTunes library that has only 300 albums, I'll lose those who is not represented in the iTunes library or if the two systems will cross? I'm afraid I'll lose music if I sync my iPod (which has more music files) to the iTunes library (which has fewer files).

    Thank you

How do you migrate the iTunes library - did you use the iTunes on the old disk database, or create a new library and import media from the old drive?  In both cases, you see the files/folders for albums 'disappeared' on the old drive?

BTW, in almost all cases you have no right to keep the media from a CD if you have is no longer the physical CD.

  • I downloaded the discography of Bruce Cockburn, but duplicate and some files are empty files. How can I fix this?

There are 15 albums that I tried to transfer the 'library of windows' to 'windows media player' on my PC, but the duplicate folder and some files were empty. What should I do?

    Hi David,

There can be several causes for this problem which are preventable

I suggest to follow the steps provided and we update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Run the troubleshooters and check if the problem is resolved.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-library-Troubleshooter

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-settings-Troubleshooter

Method 2: If the problem persists, then clear the database of Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. for Windows 7: click Start, run, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click on OK.

    c. Select all files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Method 3: If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. If you run Windows 7, click Start, run, % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

    c. Select the folder Media Playerand then click delete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
