Hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys - I can't delete

Hello
I have a computer laptop tecra s3 and after a fresh install of XP restore cd, I noticed that 4 GB of my C partition are 2 files:
(1) C:\hiberfil.sys (around 2 GB)

All my C partition is 12.5 GB because of the small HDD (80 GB), so I really need the extra space.
Hiberfil I looked on the internet and this is the info of the RAM when I activate the Hibernate to close Notepad. I've ever used this function and in any case, it is disabled, there nothing on the hibernation in Control Panel-> Power Options, and when I want to activate stop-> hibernation, I can't because it is faded and I can't select it. So obviously this file I need, it's a hidden file system: how to remove it? I tried already the folder option-> view the file and I have uncheked Hide protected operating system files, but still I can not remove it.

(2) C:\pagefile.sys (around 2 GB)
This file is the virtual memory that XP uses of my HARD drive as ram memory, I currently have 2GB of RAM.
If I reduce the amount of this virtual memory settings, what will happen to XP? He's going to become increasingly slow?
This laptop is important because I use it on my work place, so... I really need to work properly :)

Thank you, hope you have time for me soon :)

If you disable Hibernation in the Power Options (and the Toshiba Power Saver), you should be able to delete that file. If you can't, try to delete it in Mode without failure. From the start to access the Windows boot to Windows Startup menu, press F8.

Windows requires a swap file to work properly, so you should not delete the pagefile.sys file. If you do, it will be created again anyway.

PS. SD cards are cheap these days, so you can use a 16 GB SD card to store your files if the HARD drive is running out of space.

Use CCleaner (google is your friend) to delete unnecessary files from the HARD drive and clean the registry.

  • Bridge connects and downloads photo but can't delete?

I use Adobe Bridge CC to download my pictures on my camera Sony Alpha 5000.

It worked very well, but today, I connected via USB. The bridge connected to the camera, and I downloaded the images. I checked "delete images after the download area.

However, after downloading, bridge could not delete images. He said something like "device not connected". I tried several times and it was the same, the camera is detected, the images can be downloaded, but not deleted. I don't think I performed settings on my camera say impossible to delete images remotely.

No idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

I tried to delete the pictures from my camera via my computer and a usb cable, and he refused. It seems that some cameras will not let you do this, which is really good. You really want to you make sure that your images are good and have been properly downloaded until they are removed from your card. I never use Bridge to download and always us the operating system. Then then I'm happy, I can remove them, most often by formatting the card in the camera, or from time to time using a card reader and the computer.

As long as you do not remove the shared Albums are under the shared section in the sidebar, that images can be removed from the library and stay in line in the shared album:

  • Problem with Anti Virus Software is not not able to scan pagefil.sys and hiberfil.sys

    Question:
I ran a virus check and he warned me that the antivirus software cannot
analyze these 2 files system. Can someone tell me if this is normal or not.
    Thank you

What antivirus software do you use? pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys is the disc of Windows virtual memory and file restore hibernation file. Both are system files that should not be accessed by anything other than the operating system itself. Never underestimate your own stupidity.

  • Why is pagefile.sys and hiberfile.sys so great?

Hey on my computer the pagefile.sys and the hiberfile.sys are so great. The pagefile.sys is 3.92 GB and the hiberfile.sys is 2.94 GB. Why are they so big and is at - it a way to clean them?

    CK

They are the same size as the amount of RAM on your computer.  If you NEVER use Hibernate you which can disable and size of swap file can be changed but I suggest unless you are very short on HD space, I would like to leave as default.

  • Need help, move, or delete the file hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys to reduce the free space in C: drive

Original title: need assistance to move or delete hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys

Is there anyway I can move or remove 2.43 GB hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys 4.39 GB in a defferent drive because I'm running out of space on my C: drive?  They take so much space.

See this tutorial to move the swap file, however, I recommend have at least a 900MB

pagefile on the C: drive to allow the creation of a dump in case of problems with the system file.

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/132201-virtual-memory-paging-file-change.html

To delete the hiberfil.sys, you must disable hibernation. It cannot be moved.

You need both.  They were always there you probably comes from their visible rendering.

The amount of ram = pagefile.  For example 8gigs ram = page file 8 gig
Hiberfil is necessary if ever 'Hibernate you' your computer.  It's abt 75% of the amount of ram you have

If you are that tight on space you probably have a bigger HD.  A 64-bit win 8partition can run more than 60 gigs.

    Hi PeterGibbons,

The Hiberfil.sys hidden system file is located in the folder root of the drive where the operating system is installed. The Windows Kernel Power Manager reserves this file when you install Windows. The size of this file is approximately equal to the amount of memory (RAM) is installed on the computer.

The computer uses the file Hiberfil.sys to store a copy of the system hard disk memory when sleep hybrid setting is turned on. If this file is not present, the computer cannot Hibernate.

to clean the space, you can run disk Cleanup Tool tool Description disk cleanup in Windows XP:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312

    (b) also to remove all unwanted or unused computer programs.

  • How can I move Hiberfil.sys?

I would like to move Hiberfil.sys to another partition.  I'm running out of space and moving it would be easier and much less time than for re-size of all partitions.

You can not.  Because the hibernation file must be readable by the bootstrapper, it must be stored on a specific sector of the hard disk on the primary system partition.  It cannot be moved.

  • Webroot security found a file that is a threat to my system. Serial.sys Can I delete this file and download a new serial.sys or is this a file I do not have?

My malwarebites program keeps blocking a signal out to various websites... When I installed and ran the program of webroot it detected the file serial.sys as a threat similar to my system.  I'm assuming that this file is probably infected.  I guess my first question is whether or not, it is a necessary file?

If it is can I delete and download a new serial.sys?

    Thank you very much

    Hi John Sw140,.

Microsoft Windows serial should be located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers . This file serial.sys is safe and should not be considered a threat to the computer. The serial.sys process is part of Microsoft Windows and should not be removed or prevented from loading at each loading Windows. This could cause errors or Windows to stop working.

  • Hiberfil.sys and Windows 2008

    Hello

Does anyone know if the hiberfil.sys file is required on a virtual Windows 2008 Server for any specific 'VM' related features?  For example it is necessary to do a Vmotion or create a snapshot?

    Hello.

Does anyone know if the hiberfil.sys file is required on a virtual Windows 2008 Server for any specific 'VM' related features?  For example it is necessary to do a Vmotion or create a snapshot?

No, not at all on the side of VMware.  You would only need to this feature, if you wanted to put into hibernation using native functions to its guest OS.

I found that if I "powercfg off h" I can remove this my template file, but I don't want to break some functionality but do.

I do this procedure for all models of Windows 2008 I.

    Good luck!

    How could it happen?

OK, I managed to solve the problem.
Using disk hex editor I changed the name of hiberfil.sys to hiberfil.syt in $MFT, then chkdsk some kind restored the file and changed Hibernate service its size in current memory of the PC. The file is now visible.
I'll check if hibernation is actually at work.
