Hidden files in 64-bit Windows 8
Hi all I am under Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and it was a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit upgrade.
My problem is that I can't activate 'Hidden files' via the Ribbon or the menu folder options. It is not tick the box when I click it. Ive also noticed that don't "do not show and display" have not not a tick against or the other in the folder options.
Ive checked my permission on the registry key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced\ and I have all the permissions in the registry. When I change the value of 'Hidden' from 0 to 1 I get an error message ' cannot modify hidden: error writing to the new content value.
I don't know what else to try and hope that someone else may have an idea with this problem. For that interest them the most recent thing ive done with my pc was to install BitDefender Internet Security 2013. I disabled all services for Bitdefender and it did not a difference I thought there may be a possibility that this was causing my question.
Everything else works fine on my OS, I can just activate the hidden folder option.
SOLVED
I tried to create another profile and had nothing but questions, a lot of updates keep the Explorer and whatnot. Long story short, I've tried a few fixes and ended up killing Windows. Fortunately for me I an Acronis backup and managed to restore to that.
All faults indicate a virus or malware that caused the problem he sky exploded from there. All about everything I didn't not lose a lot and am happy that I have had the backup.
My guess is the period I uninstall and install my new AV, that I was quite alto of internet surfing at this time. I guess we will never know.
Thanks to all who responded. Very appreciated

I accidentally deleted the directory "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Microsoft ' my 64 bit Windows Vista system. How can I get it back?
original title: C:\Program Files (x 86) \MicrosoftYou can try this program:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva/
Use the deep Scan option. It may take some time.
The System File Checker can repair some of the files in there, but probably not all.
It's probably at least some of the files that have been overwritten. so I would say the the more safe thing to do is to reinstall Windows.

ccough2You are running 32 bit Windows 7, so you have only \Program Files and that's fine. He didn't need anything else.
If you use Windows 7 64-bit, you \Program Files, which contain 64-bit programs, * and * \Program Files (x 86), containing 32-bit programs.

Switch to Windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit windows 7 without losing any files or programs
I am running Win7 32 bit on one of my hard drives, but wonder if I can install win7 64 bit for the slave drive, or if I pass on the slave master and start the new master drive with the 64-bit version. I really don't want to format my drive and would like to keep me files and programs. I read in a forum that you can partition the master drive and install the 64-bit on the partition and after that's done remove you area partitioned with the old version of 32-bit, allowing you to keep all the other information. Please let me know what is my best option.

The original question was that I didn't include some subfolders, but I did find a way to exclude subfolders, so I tried to hide folders and files.

(1) Perform SFC first. Follow the link on how to make SFC (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833)
(2) turning on Windows Media Player again.
a. go to start and in the search type 'Turn Windows has or not'.
b. click on the "Turn Windows features on or off".
c. check the "media features.
d. restart the computer.
You can also try restore (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/system-restore) your computer to the final point where windows media player worked.
Or you can use the previous versions of windows media player that comes from restore points or windows backup.
Or you can try to run 'Fixit '.
