Hierarchical queries - problem with condition "begins by".

Hi people

I play with the connection by and start with clause and am faced with a particular problem which I can not solve...

My data set is:

Create table dates_q
(start_date date,
end_date date)
/

REM INSERTING into dates_q
Insert into dates_q ("START_DATE","END_DATE") values (to_date('01-JAN-14','DD-MON-RR'),to_date('10-JAN-14','DD-MON-RR'));
Insert into dates_q ("START_DATE","END_DATE") values (to_date('11-JAN-14','DD-MON-RR'),to_date('20-JAN-14','DD-MON-RR'));
Insert into dates_q ("START_DATE","END_DATE") values (to_date('10-MAR-14','DD-MON-RR'),to_date('20-MAR-14','DD-MON-RR'));
Insert into dates_q ("START_DATE","END_DATE") values (to_date('21-MAR-14','DD-MON-RR'),to_date('31-MAR-14','DD-MON-RR'));
Insert into dates_q ("START_DATE","END_DATE") values (to_date('01-APR-14','DD-MON-RR'),to_date('10-APR-14','DD-MON-RR'));

Now I basically just want to get your hands on hierarchical queries and working with the syntax of various...

What I now want is, start with the date of April 1 as my start date and work backward to build my 'tree '. The condition of my tree is between two rows; my start and end dates differ from 1 day. If they do not; I don't want these records in my tree.

And using sys_connect_by_path, I want to get all the way from the root.

Thus, for example,.

SELECT a.*,
       sys_connect_by_path(start_date, '|'),
       LEVEL lvl
  FROM dates_q a
 CONNECT BY PRIOR end_date = (start_date - 1)

I get the following output

START_DATEEND_DATESYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(START_DATE,'|')LVL
01.01.201410.01.2014| 1 JANUARY 141
11.01.201420.01.2014| 1 JANUARY 14 | JANUARY 11, 142
11.01.201420.01.2014| JANUARY 11, 141
10.03.201420.03.2014| MARCH 10, 141
21.03.201431.03.2014| MARCH 10, 14. MARCH 21, 142
01.04.201410.04.2014|10-MAR-14|21-MAR-14|01-APR-143
21.03.201431.03.2014| MARCH 21, 141
01.04.201410.04.2014| MARCH 21, 14. 1 APRIL 142
01.04.201410.04.2014| 1 APRIL 141

But for the moment I did not have any starting point... Now comes the FUN part...

When I give the State of departure; I get a single row :-(

Example of

SELECT a.*,
       sys_connect_by_path(start_date, '|'),
       LEVEL lvl
  FROM dates_q a
 CONNECT BY PRIOR end_date = (start_date - 1)
 START WITH start_date = To_Date('01-apr-2014','dd-mon-yyyy');

The result is

START_DATEEND_DATESYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(START_DATE,'|')LVL
01.04.201410.04.2014| 1 APRIL 141

Just a line...!

I'm unable to understand this and work more and need help.

The formation of the tree works only in a 'sense' and I'm going the other way around? Don't know what it means but just something that comes to mind. :/

Thank you

K

P.S. - database is 10g R2.

Hello

Thanks for the display of the data of the sample; It is very useful.

What do you expect the result will be and why?

LEVEL = 1 contains all rows that meet the condition to START WITH.  The rows that meet the condition

start_date = To_Date('01-apr-2014','dd-mon-yyyy')

in this case?  Only the line you actually obtained.

LEVEL = N (where N > 1) contains all rows that meet the conditions regarding some FRONT CONNECT BY rank level = N - 1.  Since the only line level = 1 to end_date = To_Date('10-apr-2014','dd-mon-yyyy'), lines satisfy the condition

End_date PRIOR = (start_date - 1).

? None.  End_date PREREQUISITE is April 10, while rows with start_date April 11 would fulfill this condition, there is no line on LEVEL = 2 and the query stops there.

You would have expected this from your previous results.  The line with the start_date April 1 had no children in the previous application, so there no children in any application that has the same State of CONNECT BY.

Maybe you meant the CONNECT BY condtion to be

End_date = BEFORE (start_date - 1).

  • Problem with conditional bid

    HI - hoping that this problem will be easy for someone!

    I have a page with the two regions. A region is a tabform with a SUBMIT (Reg1 label) button. Branch of the watch like going to Page 1 condition showing SUBMIT (Reg1) for the button.

    The last region has a SHIPMENT (Test label) I want to create a branch to another page, but I did it as a shipment so it records the date before leaving the page. The branch shows Go to 25 conditional Page indicating SUBMIT (Test). Everything seems good.

    However, when you press the button in the region don't want it branches to the first branch (based on the sequence). The two buttons go to the Page referenced (even they are supposed to conitional). If I change the order of the sequences, the two buttons go to the lowest order.

    What I am doing wrong?

  • Problem with condition on calculation

    I was faced with making a condition of PL/SQL on a page which deals with the work of calculation. The State has several if, then return false and another at the end of statements which returns true. It works fine when the IF then statement seeks a text element, but does not work when you look at a part of the select list. I tried to make the condition false when the selection list item is zero, but it is always set to true. I also tried comparing the element '% null', since that is what appears in the session information, but it does not work also.

    The only solution I've found so far is to put in a calculation of page rendering for the item selection list and pre-fill with a value. Which seems to work, but I think I shouldn't have to go through this extra step.

    Here are the PL/SQL that does not work:

    Start
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_TYPE = "ENTRY".
    THEN RETURN FALSE;
    end if;
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_PRIMARY_ST is null
    then return false;
    end if;
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_REF_NO IS not NULL
    THEN RETURN FALSE;
    else return TRUE;
    end if;
    end;

    And here is the PL/SQL that works (after adding a page to pre-fill rendering calculation: P950_NOTIFICATION_PRIMARY_ST with the value "NA")

    Start
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_TYPE = "ENTRY".
    THEN RETURN FALSE;
    end if;
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_PRIMARY_ST = "NA".
    then return false;
    end if;
    If: P950_NOTIFICATION_REF_NO IS not NULL
    THEN RETURN FALSE;
    else return TRUE;
    end if;
    end;

    Hello

    If P950_NOTIFICATION_PRIMARY_ST is a selection list that allows null values, then it is possible that the value is in fact % null and non-null. Try:

    if :P950_NOTIFICATION_PRIMARY_ST <> '%' || 'null%'

    ("null %" is actually converted to NULL, you must divide the string as above for the test)

    I'm becoming so whenever you click on the object it reduced opacity of 10% every time if it gets to 10% and he clicked again, it remains at 10% instead of going to 0

    function fadeOut(e:MouseEvent):void {}

  • problem with the help of the conditional formatting on a cell that is defined as the percentage

    Hi all

    I am facing a problem with the help of the conditional formatting on a cell that is defined as the percentage.

    I am using beaches for example:

    is equal to or greater than 10% - green color

    5%-10%-yellow

    less than or equal to 5%-color red

    the problem is that keeps the value 10% get yellow color when it should get green.

    i thought that is a rounding issue but when I change the definitions of the cell to learn more decimal places I see this part of the percentage 9.65% and some of them are 10.00% and they are both colored in yellow.

    I also tried to change the way range of 6 to 9%, but values between 9.65% or 5.5% are not colored.

    I really enjoy your help!

    You know the reason and the solution.

    change the format of the column and go or add a column more with decimal and opt for conditional and hide report.

    Hello

    Bodin wrote:
    Hi Frank, I can order it selectively depending on the level, which means that only siblings stopped at third level, but rest of the brothers and sisters remain Nations United ordered

    It's actually quite difficult. You can "ORDER of brothers and SŒURS BY CASE... ', like this:

    SELECT  LEVEL
    ,      LPAD (' ', 3 * LEVEL) || ename     AS indented_ename
    FROM      scott.emp
    START WITH        mgr     IS NULL
    CONNECT BY mgr = PRIOR empno
    ORDER SIBLINGS BY  CASE
                   WHEN job = 'MANAGER' THEN ename
                                              ELSE  NULL
                 END
    ;

    In this case to get desired results in table scott.emp, as the lines are LEVEL = 2 if and only if use = "MANAGER".
    But if you reference LEVEL in the CASE expression (for example, if you replace ' job = 'MANAGER' ' with "2 LEVEL =" above "), then you will get the error" ORA-00976: LEVEL, PRIOR or ROWNUM not allowed here. "
    The best way I can think to do exactly what you asked is to do 2 CONNECT BY queries; one just to get the LEVEL and the other for the brothers and SŒURS ORDER BY:
    {code}
    WITH got_lvl AS
    (
    SELECT LEVEL AS lvl
    Bishop
    empno
    ename
    FROM scott.emp
    START WITH mgr IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR empno = mgr
    )
    SELECT lvl
    , LPAD (' ', 3 * LEVEL) | Ename AS indented_ename
    OF got_lvl
    START WITH mgr IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR empno = mgr
    BROTHERS AND SŒURS OF ORDER OF CASES
    ONCE lvl = 2 THEN ename
    ANOTHER NULL
    END
    ;
    {code}
    Why you can't simply "Brothers and SŒURS of ORDER BY ename" at all levels? If all you care is the order of the items of LEVEL = 2, then this is probably the most effective and simplest way. It really hurt anything if nodes on levels 3, 4, 5,... are in order, too?

    Here's something you can do if you want to order by different unique things to different levels:
    {code}
    WITH got_sort_key AS
    (
    SELECT LEVEL AS lvl
    , LPAD (' ', 3 * LEVEL) | Ename AS indented_ename
    empno
    SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH (LPAD (CASE
    WHEN LEVEL = 2
    THEN ename
    Of OTHER TO_CHAR (empno)
    END
    10
    )
    , ','
    ) AS sort_key
    FROM scott.emp
    START WITH mgr IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR empno = mgr
    )
    SELECT lvl
    indented_ename
    empno
    OF got_sort_key
    ORDER BY sort_key
    ;
    {code}
    However, all possible values of the CASE expression must uniquely identify the node; otherwise, the output won't necessarily hierarchical order. You can assign arbitrary unique IDS to the lines (using the ROW_NUMBER analytic function, for example), but that requires another subquery and is also complex and perhaps as ineffective as the solution above with 2 garages CONNECT.

  • Problem with the conditional tags in printed output

    I write help files for different versions of our software - version 4 and 5 using Robohelp for HTML 5.0.2

    There is a large overlap of information between the two, so I use a help file joint with marked topics that are specific to version 4 or version 5.

    I went out and then use with 'NOT v4' or "NOT v5" as the conditional tags.

    It works fine in the HTML output. However, I encountered problems with the printed output.

    Ideally, I want the help file using the option "generate the single document" because it means that the document produced, without the single output field. However, when I do, the tags conditional build fail and I get a piecemeal result.

    If I generate the document by using the option 'generate individual documents' tags conditional build work, but I get the only field I want to avoid.

    Does anyone know how to get the conditional tags to work when the option "generate the single document" is selected?

    Pierre and HKabaker - thanks for your comments.

    I think I have the answer now.

    In the properties for the SSL Print dialog, the third screen is the dialogue of section layout. I had removed some sections in the right pane (for example, the default title page, glossary, and index) because I did not want them to appear in the final printed output. It seems that without these sections present conditional compilation tags do not work correctly when the document is released by using the option 'generate a single document ".

    I started again with a "blank" printing of SSL version. Conditional constructions using the "generate a single document" appear to work fine when I leave the dialog layout intact section.

    I can even do the conditional tags build an injustice because the option "generate a single document" (after that I made the changes in the dialog layout section) seems to be that some of the chapters in the table of contents and omitting others.

  • Problem with the listening Service: Long delay beginning listener, intermittent connections

    I have problems to connect to my Oracle database.  I don't know what was the cause, but now when I connect to a database that has been working well for the past two years, I usually get an ORA-12541 error.

    I run lsnrctl status on the server and get a prinout like this:

    Copyright (c) 1991, 2010, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

    AMT-00511: no listener
    Windows 64-bit error: 2: no such file or directory

    I also tried to manually stop the service through services.msc, then by restarting via lsnrctl start, but when I do this I get a very long delay (10 + minutes) before he comes back with something like:

    TNS-01153: failed to process the string: 0i

    I'm quite lost as to what is wrong.  I've been messing around with listener.ora, but I don't see anything difficult in there.  Here's a copy:

    A few times during that time, I was able to connect to the server, via sqlplus, however, it took 10 minutes before the connection is online.  Once I'm connected, I can ask my paintings as expected, but I need an application to connect.

    If anyone has any ideas on what could be the problem, please let me know.

    In fact, there was another thing, I changed when I finally got it works, although I don't know if it was related or not.  In my folder with my track logs, I had a huge (> 4 GB) listener.log file.  I deleted this file right before that I ran the command netsh command to reset and then restarted.  This file was also a bit special, because it had not been updated since around the time that I first encountered this problem.  It seems to be updated on a minute by minute basis, now that I've removed the old.  Is there a problem with this file becomes too big?  My drive was not out of space, but it is very curious that this stopped file update on the same day as when I started having the problem and now works properly again.  I wish I had noted the exact time until I deleted it.

    DBMS_XMLGEN. GETXML)

    CTX IN ctxHandle,

    tmpclob IN OUT NCOPY CLOB,

    dtdOrSchema in numbers: = NONE)

    RETURN A BOOLEAN VALUE;

    11 GR 2 Guide (February 2014) developer Oracle DB XML stipulates the following:
    Parameters

    getXML (ctx IN ctxHandle,

    clobval IN OUT NCOPY clob,

    dtdOrSchema in numbers: = NONE);

    CTX -The context handle from call

    newContext.

    clobval (IN/OUT) - the CLOB to which the XML document is

    being attached,

    dtdOrSchema -If you need to generate the DTD or

    Schema. This parameter is NOT supported.

    Use this version of the function getXML, in order to avoid any supplement

    CLOB copies and if you want to reuse the same CLOB for

    subsequent calls. This getXML call is more effective than the other

    flavor, even if it means that you create the LOB reference.

    When you generate the XML, the number of lines specified by the

    setSkipRows call are ignored, then the maximum number of

    ranks as specified by the setMaxRows call (or all if

    not specified) is read and converted into XML. Use of the

    getNumRowsProce

    I'm bringing 2 parts of XML document.  I use 2 hierarchical queries.  One to generate hierarchical header of a table and another information to generate information of hierarchical detail to a separate table. My code is generally as follows:

    DECLARE

    hdrctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;

    detailctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;

    hdrdoc CLOB.

    BOOLEAN success;

    hdrqry VARCHAR2 (2000): = ' SELECT LEVEL, XMLELEMENT (EVALNAME HTAGNAME, HTAGVAL) OF HDRTABLE

    CONNECT HSUBSEQ = PRIOR HGRPSEQ';

    --

    detailqry VARCHAR2 (2000): = ' SELECT LEVEL, XMLELEMENT (EVALNAME DTAGNAME, DTAGVAL) OF DETAILTABLE

    CONNECT DSUBSEQ = PRIOR DGRPSEQ';

    BEGIN

    hdrctx: = DBMS_XMLGEN.newContextFromHierarchy (hdrqry);

    detailctx: = DBMS_XMLGEN.newContextFromHierarchy (detailqry);

    DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY (hdrdoc, true);

    DBMS_XMLGEN. GetXml (hdrctx, hdrdoc);

    -dbms_output.put_line (hdrdoc);

    DBMS_XMLGEN. GetXml (detailctx, hdrdoc);

    DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext (hdrctx);

    DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext (detailctx);

    dbms_output.put_line (hdrdoc);

    DBMS_LOB. FREETEMPORARY (hdrdoc);

    END;

    I also tried the next iteration:

    BEGIN

    hdrctx: = DBMS_XMLGEN.newContextFromHierarchy (hdrqry);

    detailctx: = DBMS_XMLGEN.newContextFromHierarchy (detailqry);

    DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY (hdrdoc, true);

    hdrdoc: = DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML (hdrctx);

    -dbms_output.put_line (hdrdoc);

    DBMS_XMLGEN. GetXml (detailctx, hdrdoc);

    DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext (hdrctx);

    DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext (detailctx);

    dbms_output.put_line (hdrdoc);

    DBMS_LOB. FREETEMPORARY (hdrdoc);

    END;

    The two sources of documentation indicates that version 3 of overload of getXML parameter adds the CLOB parameter that is passed and yet I am not able to get the details to add to the header.  If I Uncomment the first put_line I get a document of xml output containing the header as expected information.  However, the second put_line outputs of an xml document that contains only the detail information and none of the header information.  It is not adding as stated in the documentation, but substitute instead.  Any ideas what is happening here and how I can get the feature of adding such as specified in the documentation?

    An additional but trivial problem is the difference in the documentation.  Documentation packages and types indicates that 3 parameter getXML overload returns a BOOLEAN value.  DB XML Dev Guide does not indicate this.  When I use this, the call works as a process and not a function, but I'm failed in the 3rd parameter, which must by default to NONE.  I want to just make sure that using the 2 explicit and implicit parameters 1 is not ending up with me call the wrong version.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this point,

    Paul

    Because that the additional XML prologue is a specific, defined in section it is easy to remove.

    The best way to get something is to not generate it.

    This is the meeting of the 2 segments arbitrarily dimensions and structured it's much more embarrassing for me.

    What you mean?

    I'll look into the possibility of restructuring in those non-hierarchical hierarchical queries as a work-around.

    Don't bother it.

    Simply add two structures manually instead of using a 'function' who obviously don't get you any advantage.

    for example

    DECLARE

    hdrctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;

    detailctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;

    doc CLOB.

    hdrqry VARCHAR2 (2000): = ' SELECT LEVEL, XMLELEMENT ("emp", xmlattributes (empno as "id")) FROM scott.emp

    CONNECT BY prior empno = mgr

    Start with mgr is null';

    detailqry VARCHAR2 (2000): = ' SELECT LEVEL, XMLELEMENT ("emp2", xmlattributes (empno as "id")) FROM scott.emp

    CONNECT BY prior empno = mgr

    Start with mgr is null';

    BEGIN

    hdrctx: = dbms_xmlgen.newContextFromHierarchy (hdrqry);

    detailctx: = dbms_xmlgen.newContextFromHierarchy (detailqry);

    DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY (doc, true);

    Select xmlserialize (document

    XmlElement ("root"

    dbms_xmlgen.getxmltype (hdrctx)

    dbms_xmlgen.getxmltype (detailctx)

    )

    as clob dash

    )

    in the doc

    Double;

    dbms_xmlgen.closeContext (hdrctx);

    dbms_xmlgen.closeContext (detailctx);

    dbms_output.put_line (doc);

    DBMS_LOB.freeTemporary (doc);

    END;

    /

    output:

  • Slow hierarchical queries

    Hello
    I wrote an application that allows the user to filter the data displayed based on several parameters, for example one of the parameters (b) is hierarchical, each element (with the exception of the root element) has a father and several sons, the hierarchy is managed by a specific table (LINKS), I need when the user selects b the result will include also all his descendants.

    This is the query:

    SELECT *.
    R
    JOIN IN-HOUSE RT ON R.A = RT. A
    WHERE (R.B IN (select sub_id
    the beginning of LINKS with father_id =: id
    Connect prior sub_id = father_id)
    or R.B =: id or: id = 0)
    AND (R.A =: GOLD: a = 0)
    ORDER OF R.B, R.A

    The problem is that the query is so slow, it allows the application of stuck, when I've omitted the line: ' or R.B =: id or: id = 0 ' he not stuck but this line is necessary because the user may also fill the filter field or try to filter b himself and not his descendants.

    Is it possible to improve the performance of this query or write it better?

    You can move the logic on r.b in the subquery.
    There is a small chance that it could accelerate the entire query.
    not tested

    SELECT *
    FROM R
    JOIN RT ON R.A = RT.A
    WHERE R.B IN (select sub_id
                       from LINKS
                       start with father_id = :id
                       connect by prior sub_id= father_id
                       UNION ALL
                       select :id sub_id from dual
                       UNION ALL
                       select sub_id
                       from LINKS
                       where :id = 0
                       )
    AND (R.A=:a or :a=0)
    ORDER BY R.B, R.A

    Also see the ecexution use it and explain how to call the select statement.
    A goal of optimization often used is wo writing several queries and call the right according to the parameters.
    Different queries may be optimized independently of each other and hence faster query where everything is condensed into one big.

    pls/sql example

    if :a=0 and :b=0 then
       SELECT *
       into...
       FROM R
       JOIN RT ON R.A = RT.A
       ORDER BY R.B, R.A;
    elsif :b=0 then
       SELECT *
       into...
       FROM R
       JOIN RT ON R.A = RT.A
       where R.A=:a
       ORDER BY R.B, R.A;
    elsif :a=0 then
       SELECT *
       into...
       FROM R
       JOIN RT ON R.A = RT.A
       WHERE R.B IN (select sub_id
                       from LINKS
                       start with father_id = :id
                       connect by prior sub_id= father_id
                       UNION ALL
                       select :id sub_id from dual)
       ORDER BY R.B, R.A;
    else /* both parameters are selected */
       SELECT *
       into...
       FROM R
       JOIN RT ON R.A = RT.A
       WHERE R.B IN (select sub_id
                       from LINKS
                       start with father_id = :id
                       connect by prior sub_id= father_id
                       UNION ALL
                       select :id sub_id from dual)
       and R.A=:a
       ORDER BY R.B, R.A;
    end;

    Re: Mac Mini Late 2014 vs SSD Ram

    Yes, dwb, I downloaded EtreCheck and run twice, choosing the first "slow computer', then 'Applications crashing' the second time.

    In this post, I will paste the results. Note that I clicked and clicked check boxes in the space of options for all non-hidden results. This, apparently, makes the longer and more complex answer, but as I said in the other post, I tried to improve my Mini for years, so I didn't want to leave anything to chance.

    I'll stick the newspaper 'Applications Crash' in the next post, if it is not apocalyptic long...

    1. the present proceedings is a diagnostic test. It doesn't change anything for the better or worse and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem. But with the help of the results of the tests, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.

    The test works on OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") and later versions. I do not recommend running it on older versions of Mac OS X. It will do no harm, but it will not do not much good.

    Do not be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You make the tasks more complicated with the computer all the time.

    2. If you do not already have a current backup, please back up all the data before doing anything else. The backup is needed on the general principle, not because of what anyone in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you encounter any kind of problems with the computer, you can be more than the usual loss of data, if you follow these instructions or risk not.

    There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

    3 here is instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it doesn't change anything. It does not send or receive data over the network. There is no to generate a report on the State of the computer human readable. This report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents for me or someone else.

    You should ask yourself if you can believe me, and if it is safe to run a program at the request of a foreign national. In general, no, he's not sure, and I encourage it.

    In this case, however, there are ways for you to decide if the program is safe without having to trust me. First of all, you can read it. Unlike an application that download you and click to start, it is transparent, anyone familiar with the code can check what it does.

    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this site several times over a period of years. One of the million registered users to have read the script and set off the alarm if it was dangerous. Then I wouldn't be here now, and you would not be reading this message. See, e.g., this discussion.

    However, if you cannot satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, do not follow them. Ask other solutions.

    4. here is a general summary of what you need to do, if you decide to go forward:

    ☞ Copy text from a particular web page (not this one) to the Clipboard.

    ☞ Paste into the window to another application.

    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.

    ☞ Stick the results, which will be copied automatically, in a response on this page.

    These are not specific instructions; just a glimpse. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait and paste it again. You don't need to copy a second time.

    5. try to test in conditions that replicate the problem, to the extent possible. For example, if the computer is slow intermittently, run the test during a downturn.

    You may have started up in safe mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works pretty well in normal mode to test run, restart as usual before running it. If you can test only in safe mode, this.

    6. If you have more than one user and a user is affected by the problem, and the user is not an administrator, and then run the test twice: once under the affected user and one administrator. The results can be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer, when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you are unable to log in as an administrator, verify that the user concerned. More personal Mac have only one user, and in this case this section does not apply. Don't log in as root.

    7 load the linked web page (the site "Pastebin.") Press the combination of keys command + A to select all the text, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing command-C.

    8. start the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

    ☞ Enter the first letters of his name ("Terminal") in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

    ☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

    Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing Command + V, then press return. The text that you pasted should disappear immediately.

    9. If you logged in as an administrator, you will be prompted for your login password. Nothing displayed when you type. You won't see the usual points instead of the characters typed. Make sure that caps lock is turned off. Type carefully, and then press return. You can get a warning to be careful. If you make three unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the test is still running, but it will produce less information. If you do not know the password, or if you prefer not to enter, just press back three times at the password prompt. Yet once again, the script will run.

    If the test takes much longer that usual to run because the computer is very slow, you can be prompted for your password a second time. The permission you grant by entering it will expire automatically after five minutes.

    If you are not logged as an administrator, you will be prompted for a password. The test will run. It just will not do anything that requires administrator privileges.

    10. the test may take a few minutes to run, depending on the number of files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that is abnormally slow may take more time to run the test. During execution, a series of lines is displayed in the Terminal window like this:

        Test started
            Part 1 of 4 done at: … sec        …        Part 4 of 4 done at: … sec
        The test results are on the Clipboard.
        Please close this window.

    The intervals between the parties will not be exactly the same, but they give an approximate indication of progress.

    Wait for the final message "Please close this window" appear - again, usually within a few minutes. If you don't see this message in about 30 minutes, the test probably won't be completed within a reasonable time. In this case, press the Ctrl + C key combination or the point command to stop it. Then go to the next step. You will have incomplete results, but still something.

    In order to get results, the test should be allowed to perform or be stopped manually as shown above. If you close the window of the Terminal, while the test is still running, the partial results will not be saved.

    11. when the test is completed, or if you manually stopped, leaving the Terminal. The results have been saved to the Clipboard automatically. They do not appear in the Terminal window. Please do not copy from there. All you have to do is start a response to this comment and then paste it again by pressing Command-V.

    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words «Start time.» If you do not see that, but rather to see a mass of gibberish, you wait for the message "close this window". Please wait and try again.

    If personal information, such as your name or e-mail address, appear in the results, make anonymous before posting. Usually it will be not necessary.

    12. in the validation of the results, you see an error message on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the software which manages this website. Thanks for posting the results of the tests on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

    If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

    13. When you are finished with the test, it is gone. There is nothing to uninstall or clean.

    14. This is a public forum and others can give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but all that you can not be. For others who choose to run it, I do not recommend that you view the results of test on this Web site unless I ask.

    15. the related UNIX shell script is a notice of copyright. ASC readers can copy for their personal use. The whole nor any part can be redistributed.
