  Usually, you can use the external microphone for sound recording.

  1. open the 'control panel' (Standard view)
  2. click on 'hardware and sound '.
  3. click on "sound."
  4. click on the "Recording" tab

  You should see all the available recording devices. If only one microphone is available so that you can only use this device for sound recording!

  This problem may occur microphones are not correctly connected or some changes in the settings. To resolve this problem, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. If method 1 does not resolve your problem, go to the next method.

  Method 1

  a. check your microphone cable to ensure that it is properly plugged into the card sound or motherboard. The plug must be connected to a port with a microphone symbol, usually pink in color. If a USB port is used, make sure it is connected to a powered connection.

  b. check to see if your microphone has a setting online. Many now offer or other noise dampening or inhibition as a slider or switch.
