Historical performance of ESX data

Hi guys,.

Of in Vmware vCenter server, I produce a weekly report of the perfmance.  Call it the default report generated by the highlighting of the cluster, then clicking on the performance tab, and then change the scope from daily to weekly.

We have recently disconnected two hosts critical vCenter for security reasons.  Now, we connect to them directly by using the host name.  The performance tab when connected directly does not appear to be the weekly report.

My question is, if these ESX hosts are not considered the vcenter then is it possible to display the value of a week of the performance data?  Stand alone hosts even keep statistics of performance beyond 24 hours?

Thank you.

> Does that mean that an ESX host only stores a maximum of 24 hours of performance information?

No, of course. vCenter stores data on the performance for a while, but only for the short period of time, detailed information and the information sheets aggregated after expiry of the specified period. But vCenter is a Management server, this is the main purpose is to manage and provide basic functions of monitoring real-time performance.

For example, why I love Veeam Monitor - it can aggregate Datastore IOPS load from multiple clustered virtual machines, while vCenter can show the burden of the current host only.

    What is your level of statistics on? I suspect it's only level 1 and therefore do not collect all counters. Increase to the desired level (I use level 3), but take note that this affects the performance and the size of the database.

  • Performance of SSD data store

    I'd like to get some info on whether or not there are specific settings ESXi for best performance of VMs, sitting on a SSD data store.

    Configuration of the laboratory:

    LSI 9260-8i RAID card

    8 x 500 GB Samsung 830 SSDs (TLC, terrible I know), RAID5 (Yes, I must have parity protection)

    I've constantly tweaked the 9260 and RAID settings to achieve the best possible configuration according to my bearings: 128 KB stripe size, direct IO, reading ahead, disk cache enabled, rewrite with BBU...

    I see that a fairly large performance hit comparison performance native RAID performance vs windows in ESXi when I transplant the same RAID card/SSD in my lab and test ESXi host from inside a virtual machine.  Understood, it is fresh generals of the hypervisor and then overload the virtual machine... but still...

    You can try something like this

    $vms = Get-VM vmname1,vmname2,vmname3  $metrics = "cpu.usagemhz.average","mem.usage.average","cpu.usagemhz.minimum",          "mem.usage.minimum","cpu.usagemhz.maximum","mem.usage.maximum" $start = Get-Date -Hour 7 -Minute 0 -Second 0 -Day 25 -Month 5 -Year 2012$finish = Get-Date -Hour 10 -Minute 0 -Second 0 -Day 25 -Month 5 -Year 2012
    Get-Stat -Entity $vms -Stat $metrics -Start $start -Finish $finish |Group-Object -Property EntityId,Timestamp | %{
      New-Object PSObject -Property @{
        VMName = $_.Group[0].Entity.Name    Date = $_.Group[0].Timestamp.ToLongDateString()
        Time = $_.Group[0].Timestamp.ToLongTimeString()
        MemMax = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "mem.usage.maximum"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value    MemAvg = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "mem.usage.average"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value    MemMin = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "mem.usage.minimum"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value    CpuMax = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "cpu.usagemhz.maximum"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value    CpuMin = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "cpu.usagemhz.minimum"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value    CpuAvg = $_.Group | where {$_.MetricId -eq "cpu.usagemhz.average"} | Select -ExpandProperty Value  }
    }

    Note that this will depend on the statistical level that you set for the chosen time interval, if the measures minimum and maximum will be available.

    I have all the graphics for 1 day and in real time, but when I try to see the charts for 1 week or more, "No data available" is displayed.

    In vCenter settings, statistics are sared for 1 year.

    How can I have all the available statistics?

    Ok. Open SQL Management Studio and connect to SQL Server.  Look at the SQL Agent, make sure that it is running and check all your work to make sure they are running successfully.

  • The disk performance hard OS ESX influences the performance of ESX somehow?

    Hello

    Does the OS ESX (e.g. hard disk performance

    between SATA and SAS) affect the performance of the ESX somehow?

    (To clarify, I wonder about the hard drive that ESX is

    installed, not the hard drive that are the VMFS volumes).

    This information will help us determine if the benefit of

    faster disks to the ESX operating system outweigh the additional costs.

    Thank you!

    John

    Welcome to the Forums - there are two parts that the local disk speed will affect perfomance - during the startup of the ESX host, it will delay the start of the server ESX - the other begins as others have said if you do not set / the effective Service Console - what needs to be done to ensure your service console is configured approriately.

    1. Sevrice console the maximum value of 800 MB memory - which is then installing ESX you set space swap to 2 x 800 or 1.6 - GB

    2. When accessing your virtual machines using RDP or SSH, this will reduce the load on the service console

    3. Minimize running them something extra in the Sevrice Console-

  • Performance reading ESX w / heavy of processor cycles

    Hello. I have a 16 GB of RAM, four processor, 8 core Dell 2950 (Xeon 2 ghz) with ESX and VM 8, none of which are very CPU or memory intensive (with the exception of the Symantec Endpoint Management machine). 6 300 GB 15 000 RPM SCSI disks in RAID 5.  If I look at the table of CPU usage for the ESX Server performance as a whole (not the table for each machine) I see indicated 0-7 listed with the expected performance, with an average of less than 10 percent of available CPU cores. At the end of the list, include two objects more than CPU, esx.internal.domain.com, this is how they are labelled. One of them is on average 75% of CPU usage. Can someone tell me what are these objects and why one of them would be showing 75% CPU utilization, constantly? What is a nucleus reserved for management, or an aggregate of all cycles CPU? Or something else?

    Thank you

    One of the esx.internal.domain.com entries will be average CPU and if you select it, you should see a line in the order of 10% has highlighted.  The other entrance of esx.internal.domain.com is average CPU in MHZ.  If you select that you'll want to use a right balance.

  • More powerful hardware worst performance on the data base why?

    Dear all

    Help, please. I have recently improved our 10.1.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 database on a new server (Windows 2008 Server quard Core 64 bit with 6 GB of RAM). The third party software that will work perfectly, now malfunctioning.

    I have compiled a list of summary points.

    In summary:

    Point 1. A PC (core 2 processor double 32 bit, with 2 GB of RAM on windows XP) runs faster (a windows 2008 server running in the Quard Intel core with 6 GB RAM 64 bit) the two machines are defined to use 70% of the computer's memory (IE total SGA + PGA)

    Point 2. When the third-party software works the number of session (v$ session) varies. In some part of the application, it takes 60 + sessions to run a single report for a generation single end-user. (PC use much less session about 12 sessions)

    Point 3. The report that generates the session 60 + (I mentioned in point 2) also takes very long time 20-30 minutes (the report still run on the PC run a lot fasters 3-5 minutes)

    Point 4. Third party software is written in VB and Chrystal reports.

    Questions: -.

    1. How is the performance are so poor, even though we have more powerful hardware on the server than the PC?
    2. when applications run, and I have observed creating mulitple sessions and destroy is this mean he runs some sort of parallel query on the database?
    3. is there anything I can do to improve the speed of the server?

    concerning

    P.S. I statpack data but when I copy and paste the windws text and preview, the look of terrible format so I leave.

    Not unusual.

    It could be that the configuration used for the new server is not appropriate to use efficiently the resources of that server.

    This may, for example, designate a bottleneck caused by the use of more powerful equipment. For example, the I/O layer can manage server maybe pushing 80 Mb/s and 100 Mb/s. Most powerful processors are used, and these now perform i/o more calls per second and shoot n/b I/O required at 160 MB/s. This seriously overloading the IO layer and cause a blow all around performance drastically.

    Better support has the knack to better show how the software is designed and used. It allows the code to misconfigured software, designed and written to error even more and cause more problems, per second.

    3. is there anything I can do to improve the speed of the server?

    Who says that there is nothing wrong with the speed of the server?

    Observing that s/w is slower (VB and Crystal Reports as mentioned), it's just that - the observation of a symptom. This does not mean that the server is slow or there is a problem with the speed of the server. The server can run fast. Could just be that it runs a misconfiguration or poorly written software, very fast.

    A poor or inexperienced driver will seem a small car and slowish, fine. Put that person in a sports car and inability of the person to drive will quickly become very noticeable. This isn't the fault of the car.

    Similarly, I see not the question by looking at the server as being the problem - as if some buttons need to be pressed and switches put in order for automagically solve the performance problem.

    You must watch the symptom and identify what is the real problem. Only once you have identified the real problem, can it be addressed and solved.

  • 11.1.1 is Essbase Studio can perform a single data source

    Hello Experts,

    One of my clients needs clarification on the following-

    They intend to improve their system (9.3.1) current to 11.1.1. Currently they manually maintain metadata in Essbase and planning. 11.1.1 is Essbase Studio can perform a source of unique data between essbase and planning?

    Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks in advance

    Kind regards
    Jingle

    Hello

    If you are wanting to use Studio to manage metadata in planning, then no, you can't, it must continue to be responsible in planning first and then pushed down in essbase.

    To manage metadata in a classic planning app 11, you must use either ODI, SUN, describe utility charger or do it manually.

    Ok?

    See you soon

  • Performance of Oracle data

    I have a table1 to which is connected by 1 process (a store proc). This process runs for 1-2 hours and it's normal. I will now add new table2 and create a new process 2 (once again an store proc). Will be this slow process 1 anyway? I'm not going to run two processes at the same time (if I did this obviously would mean termpol1 will be slow). I'm looking at the increased volume of data in my database. Adding data more slow oracle even if I'm adding in another table?

    The data that I am speaking here are huge. Table1 and table2 each occupy nearly 500 GB. Each table has 200 + scores. BTW, I use 10g - 10.2.0.3.0.

    Take into account that there is no process2. I have just the table 1 and termpol1. I just add another table to the size that I mentioned above (500 GB). Just the fact that I added that most data in another table will slow down the speed of treatment of Oracle in anyway?

    Not before and while you perform a treatment against this table. Your question suggests that you fear that the mere presence of a table in the database causes an impact on performance.

  • Differences in performance between ESX and HyperV

    Hi all

    Is there someone out there who might be able to shed light on a VMware technical questions we do?

    We have a customer who has two servers spec looks like a running VMware ESX 5i and another running Server 2008 R2 HyperV. Each server has a single CPU VM running on this Server 2008 R2 running with identical amounts of RAM. HyperV server is equipped with Intel X 5650 processors, ESX Server has Intel E5-2630 procs.

    VM HyperV under load shows about 50% less CPU usage to the ESX Server VM under the same load even if the virtual machines are very similar specified. The two are running the same application and the same load.

    The customer asked us to explain why there is such a marked difference.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  • How can I partition logical volume from 5.5 TB Raid on a ML350 G6 server for ESX data warehouse creation

    Today, we received a new ML350 G6 server. It has 8 hard disks of size 1 TB each.i have created a volume unique raid 6 and raid is 5.5 TB usable for the logical unit space. The server starts with a picture of ESXi 3.5 on a USB key provided by HP with the server. When I login and checking configuration& gt; stroage adapters& gt; pi400 Smart array for physical disk controller, I couldn't see any disk. I know that ESX will not support the volume size more than 2 C.T.

    I don't want to create a raid volume children (example two raid 6 volumes with 4 hard drives), because it will reduce the amount of disk space, I can use.

    Is it possible to create 3 partitions on this volume 5.5 TB raid with the configs below?. All the tools that everyone knows that I can use to create partitions? I tried GPARTED, but it doesn't work

    LUN 0-2 TO

    1-2 TO LUN

    LUN 2-1, 5 TB

    You cannot have a drive that is larger than 2 TB.

    Create multiple logical disks, not different partitions.
