HL-DT-ST GT32N after windows update does not
I HAVE THIS UNIT ON MY 3 - MONTH OLD LAPTOP (ASUS N61JV).
AFTER THAT SEVERAL WINDOWS UPDATE, MY DVD PLAYER DOESN'T WORK. I FOLLOWED the INSTRUCTIONS FROM MICROSOFT AND OTHER SITES THAT TELL ME TO REMOVE THEUPPERFILTERS/LOWERFILTERSIN THE REGISTRY, UNINSTALL/INSTALL... At LEAST, I think I ALREADY FACT ALL THE ANIMALS, BUT WINDOWS EXPLORER STILL cannotEXPLORER THE DVD PLAYER. BUT THE DVDRAM IS LISTED IN THE DEVICE MANAGER BUT DO NOT APPEAR IN WINDOWS EXPLORER. WHEN I BOOT FROM ANOTHER OS (LINUX), IT WORKS FINE. AND WHEN I USE BURNING AS NERO, I CAN BURN BUT ALSO THE PROGRAM NERO CANNOT NAVIGATE THE DVDRAM DRIVE.
I THINK THAT THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO COMMON IN SOME PORTABLE COMPUTERS, AS I LOOK ON THE NET.
IN ANY CASE, FOR THE MICROSOFT TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEERS PLEASE I NEED TO USE MY DVD BURNER. THE BURNER WORKS FINE WHEN I BOOT TO UBUNTU (LINUX) BUT WINDOWS7 SEVEN... UUUGGGHHHH...
PLEASE WE NEED YOUR HELP...
HOW CAN I MAKE THIS WORK AGAIN?

coincidence and would have occurred when restarting following regardless of what caused the restart.

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.
Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.
Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.
Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.
===============================
Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.
Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.
Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.
Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
the parameters.

Windows Update does not work after the hard drive has been replaced
Hello
I have the same problem, replaced in my Toshiba HD, rebuild from Sysimage, Windows Update does not work. A ran "fix the problem with the Microsoft Windows Update is not working.
Problem still exist.
The message that I got while trying to update: "Windows Update cannot currently check updates,
because the service is not running. "You may need to restart you computer.
Stop and then restart the service, still no luck.I ran Windows troubleshooting. He finds two problems with Windows Update components, it corrects.
The problem still exists. The other post:
Another interesting fact:
After the reconstruction the new disk, user account control does not recognize Windows programs.
for example: execution of Perfmon.exe, the Publisher is unknown! However, when I download the program Windows FixIt, Publisher is recognized as Microsoft Windows. It seems that user account control does not recognize the Windows programs that had found the new HD, but acknowledges those who is downloaded from the internet.
I guess there is a problem with the license, Windows was preinstalled on the Toshiba and replace the hard drive could have caused a few conflicts of licensing.Separated from the:
The same problem. Cloned old HD on a larger hard drive. Everything worked perfectly except NO indexing and update WITHOUT windows - the two recurring problems that seem to appear on the forums after a change of hard disk.

UPDATES have been a little more frustrating. The microsoft .fixes and convenience stores were without help.
Go to control panel / system and Maintenance / administration tools
Select Services
Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Stop Windows Update
In 'My Computer' go to Windows / Software Distribution
Right-click "DataStore" folder. Rename it to Datastore.old
Rename the folder 'Download' Download.old
Return to Services and restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Windows Update.
Look for the updates. It will take some time because you deleted the database.

I got a report that my drive was in imminent danger of failure. Bought and made a direct disc-copy of the old disk cloning. Everything seems to work fine, but now I'm getting the pop up that says Windows is "not true." Windows shows as active, and nothing I've tried will stop the pop-up. Worse, Windows Update does NOT work, and without running a few updates, I'm dead in the water for the use of new devices.
I ran MGADiag. Here is that content. Any help is greatly apprectiated!

Windows Update does not work after restoring Windows.
I have a HP Mini 210-2080NR netbook with Windows 7 starter (31-bit). My hard drive failed and I replaced it. I ordered a USB HP recovery and then reloaded Windows 7 on new hard drive using the USB recovery drive.
After reloading Windows 7, Windows Update does not work.
This is the error I get:
Windows Update cannot currently check the updates, because the service is not running. You may have to restart your computer.
My connection is OK.
I restarted my netbook and the error is the same.
I reloaded Windows 7 and the error is the same.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Pavilion G7 1355 A9Y70EA: windows update does not
I had to do a complete reinstall of my windows 7 and even recovery if everything else seems in good condition, the function of windows update does not work despite my now do a restore complete 3 times and also executes all microsofts fix programs for this problem, also tried several fixes YouTube, but nothing works , are getting desperate now. He said only updates and the small bar just keep on crossing of forever with nothing else to be... Help...
Thans for the answer, I understand what you say, it's just that, until I discarded the computer a few days before (by foolishly following a tip to youtube to speed up computer that has totally stopped it start) windows update worked very well and it has been since a windows 10 installation and a removal of windows 10 the next day a few months ago. The folder c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution/windows/download exist with only 2 files with names very long gibberish and it is only 15 kb and the other file is 39 k, which seems to be far big enough for any update. I was wondering if instead of the clean install from the recovery partition would be any different doing a clean install from the recovery disks that I did when I got the laptop? see you soon
Made no difference with update disk and these 2 small updates are only updated Adobe and after 3 off straight, the bar is still meandering along, my update history shows only updates from 2012 when win7 was installed everything first... * beep * Microsoft!
P. S.
Yesterday, I decided I had enough and started to install windows from a download 10 earlier, but after it began, I thought "no you know you hated" so I canceled the installation. That's about 3 hours later when I went to stop the laptop it says close and install the updates, so, after 4 hours of installing updates 251 and restarted then installed another 41 updates, then again on the next closure, so basically, I think that the few installation the windows 10 made seemed to start updates to speed?
-
After repeated BSOD (FLTMGR_FILE_System 0x000000F5, 0 x 00000066, etc.) errors usually 7 to 8 minutes after the start, I reformatted the drive C: and re-installed XP SP2. But since then, I had a very hard time updated. I even got again the WORC and had to go back to a previous restore point after installing IE8.

Windows Update will not work... asked me to define my security settings for IE (userdata persistence) that has actually been the correct way. I even tried the www.update.microsoft.com movement in a trusted location. It's on Windows XP sp3, IE 8. I have some problems with Visual Studio 2008 and just uninstalled/reinstalled this weekend and noticed this problem when I went to look for updates after a fresh install.
