Host disconnected - what to do?

I just had a host (ESX 3.5) that went into the disconnected state. We do not have all of the virtual machine on the host server. I had to reboot the host which means that all VM went down.

I tried to check all services etc. to http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003409

But nothing has worked.

Anyone got something todo in such cases?

VMotion failover is not very usable, and VMotion, failover etc to my boss was - well, hard to explain that it did not work.

What server do you have? What cards you have and which networks are they connected to?

Have you checked name resolution? in the field and the level of the host between the esx host and the virtualcenter?

It is also useful to verify that the license server is accessible and functional.

It turns out that the problem is that our agile took place of the intellectual property that it wasn't supposed to and it's a double that esxi host IP. Very strange behavior. But it's the solution.

  • How to remove a host disconnected?

I have a Cluster with 6 runing ESX 3.5 hosts and two of these hosts are disconnectd and no longer works (material has disappeared), and I want to remove these two my cluster, so I clicked on delete and I got an error:

Unable to reach the specified host (host06.domain) this...

So, I want to know how can I remove a host disconnected from my Virtual Center.

you have a SQL DB? If so, perhaps this will help you

The host in question no longer exists? If so, you can also try the source edition licensing and remove your vCenter host. Then restart your management agents

    service mgmt-vmware restart

  • Remove the old host disconnected

I have a problem with my erusem team disconnected on a server that no longer exist. I'm not under the datamanagerment or host. but we continue to get messages from the host disconnected.

Where can I delete this host?

If I goto under services-> I see this server name here, but there is no option to remove it.

You want to return to the Administration-> tools-> Console of Script and paste this into a new script. Replace the variable name of the host or the part of the army, and then run the script. He should be back with a simple list of this host to be deleted. If that is correct, you can then change the force = "" to forice = 'force' and which removes this object from the system.

  • 5.1 ESXi host disconnects

One of our guests 5.1 ESXi 4 disconnects the VC. All the virtual machines on this host seem to work just fine however I can't do simple things like fast vMotioning all vm it. An attempt led to a vmotion taking an hour than to throw an error of something like its take too long.

I spoke with vmware support, and they say that the problem is related to one of my volumes in my SAN. I have a PS6110E EqualLogic and the firmware and the firmware of hard drives are up to date.

When I ssh host and cd to the directory of Volumes and try to list the contents of the directory, it crashes and I have to open a new session in Putty. When I go in the volumes directory and replace the directories by a known volume of good, all right. I can see its content very well. Opening upward the Group Manager indicates the volume of the suspect as having enough available disk space and there is no alarm. Access to command line with this volume name, however, results in a lock upward.

VMWare support says I have a problem with this volume and that seems to be the case, but while I wait for a response from support, I thought I'd see if someone might have any idea what I can watch in the meantime.

    Thank you

    Dave

The problem had nothing to do with the SAN, it turns out that. Apparently, there was a sort of hang up handshakes between the host and the VC. I had a difficult start to the host and restart the VC too to restore the handshake between the two. All right.

    Thank you

    Dave

  • Hosts disconnect during VMotion

Hi guys, faced with a difficult problem with a cluster and could use some comments: we had issues where one of the hosts (random) enters a disconnected state. If you let it rest enough long IT will return itself. Restart the vcenter services seems to accelerate the process too. Last night I went to put hosts in maintenance mode (to apply the latest patches) and all sorts of bad things that happened. Got to the point where 2 guests are cranked out. So bad a situation that one of the hosts could not return in the cluster, and we had to stop the machines and save them again on the hosts in the cluster. (Pleasure at 03:00). VMware has been a bit confused last night with what was going on so I have to re - engage the next week. Any help / ideas would be very appreciated.

Here is the material / details.

-Execution 5.5 Build 2302651 (ISO specific Dell)

-3 x Dell PowerEdge R730 [boot from Flash] (firmware completely up to date)

-1 x Dell Powervault MD3420 12 GB SAS (two controllers) (current firmware) connectivity

-There is a Dell PowerEdge R730XD directly connected to the MD3420 running Windows 2012R2 / Veeam 8.0 Update 1 for backups

-We are not sure if Veeam could be the cause for it. Trying to get involved them. At the moment we have completely disabled Veeam.

-A putty session to one of the disconnected hosts who had locked up for a restart of management agent came back as if by magic when a veeam replication job has been cancelled (a replicate a computer since the backup repository so I have no idea why that would be important)

-Currently have DRS automation and control applications disabled to mitigate risk

-Start to move workloads to another cluster to reduce the risk

Well, after a lot of torture, here is the solution:

-Drivers that Dell will ship with 5.5U2 latest ESX media are not good. You must use the latest VMWARE drivers for DIS3 12 GB host bus adapters.

-After the pilot on 2 hosts rotation, I tried vmotion and could not reproduce the problem.

-For good measure we have updated the MD3420 to 8.20 firmware which was mainly new features

    -VMWARE update latest version

After this experience, we will make some changes to our deployment strategy in order to eliminate a problem like this before the cluster into production if all goes well. We have made several tests of vmotion and storage vmotion before going to the first time, but us did not grow it is quite difficult. Automated DRS kicks and tried once to spend a lot of things at the same time, it is when we started to see these questions. If we had put a lot of pressure on the cluster and observed the vmkernel logs we have observed the error messages.

Couple all of this to try to migrate to Veeam, it makes it difficult to isolate. Once Veeam was arrested and the problems continue that it makes it a lot easier to focus our efforts.

I hope that someone else that this encounter with the LSI solution (HP, Dell, IBM) will benefit from this thread.

  • ESX 4.0 U1 host disconnects the VC

    Hey people,

I'm working on my test bench trying to put on after a stop of 6 months. I changed my ip address, in everything from virtual machines, host esx (alone) and iscsi (openfiler). I could work very well using webaccess. My VC works very well. So my DC. All are virtual machines. The problem is that I connect to the host at the VC and all is well for anywhere from a minute to three minutes and then VC loses the connection to the host. I clik on the host esx and clik 'connect' and I connected again for the above period. I unplugged the host several times and then reconnected. No change in problem. I searched some vestige of the old ip addressing, which could cause the problem but can't find anything that I have not changed. I have not stopped all my VMs and restarted the esx host. I restarted the services and vpxa mgmt. Someone has an idea of what I'm missing here?

, You update the DNS records for the host ESX and vCenter Server?

Now I can not add this host to the cluster by vCenter while I can to create a link to client by vSphere host.

    Suggestions?

It should be possible to restore the previous state of the host by pressing SHIFT-R when the host starts.

  • 5.5 ESXi update 2 | Hosts disconnect and reconnect to randomly

    We have 3 HP DL380 x G9 5.5 u2 running ESXi servers.

They have been in production for about 6-8 months until now without any problem whatsoever, until recently.

Recently, Vcentre guests will enter a 'disconnected' State and the alarm 'host and connectivity power '. After a few minutes, the host will reconnect and everything continues as usual. This disconnection causes no VMs sign out or restart. During the period where Vcentre shows as disconnected host, we can still SSH and ping on the ESX host without problem.

I checked through the VPXD logs and found that, at the time of the failure, in this case:

It doesn't seem to be a single host that is affected, it could be anything. It does not appear to occur at the same time during the day.

I have checked for problems known and found some handshake SSL timeout KB articles, but do not believe that the same thing is happening here. I tried increasing the time-out period by that article anyway (KB 2064246) but that does not make a difference.

All devices are connected to one HP5406ZL2 pass, with management on a vswitch with 2 x 10 GbE interfaces Active / active with route based on the origin of virtual Port ID set.

The server running vCentre is also the MRS server and our server backup exec.

Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

This weekend a just disappeared from the servers disconnected completely and don't come not back online.

To fix that we followed the info in this article:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2037798

This has now been run on all hosts and disconnects the random disappeared. I will seek to apply the updates that are mentioned in this article as soon as POSSIBLE.

Cordially for someone else who stumbles across this.

  • ESXi 5.5U2 host disconnects a few seconds added to vCenter

Hi all, as a subject, really. I have been troubleshooting a problem where, when adding a remote host to vCenter, who host their product to unplug a few seconds.

At first I thought it was my firewall rules, but I've sorted which and I don't no ACL denies more on them.

I can connect to the host very well using the vSphere Windows-based client, so I do not understand it.

Should what kind of information I add to this post to help the guy to help me?

    P.S., relatively new to VMware.

    Thank you, Mark

Thanks for the advice... He led me to the correction, which was that VMware KB: NAT between the vCenter Server system and ESXi/ESX host using

My vCenter was behind a NAT firewall that was causing the problem.

    Hope this helps others.

  • ESXi hosts disconnected/no response in Vcenter after upgrade (4.1 = > 5.5)

Hello. I'm upgrading our current infra (hosts/Essential licensing Vcenter / 3 ESXi 4.1). vCenter Server has been upgraded OK, so I started to esxi upgrade hosts one by one.

Upgrade process is OK, but after the reboot, upgrade marked as "not responding" in vsphere client server. I could ping this host and connect via ssh.

When you try to reconnect the client host, got a strange error "this edition of vCenter only supports 3 host (s) in the inventory. After 3-4 hours of nothing to host

has begun to show ok. After upgrading a second host, the same situation. I don't understand, how to solve it without waiting for another 4 hours.

Restart of host management agents does not help.

I remember I have a similar situation in the past where the number of licenses does not update as expected, i.e. required some time. What helped was to restart the server vCenter Server in my case. Maybe worth a try!

  • Wait for the host disconnects and then run a command

    Hello world

I have a stop script for my virtual infrastructure, now I have to add code to stop an Equallogic AFTER the last host table is turned off.

I know the commands to do this, but I need help to write a loop that will test the ip address of the last host management and wait until this station responds to pings.

In my script I have to establish what host will be put off to the end so it's not a problem... How can I keep ping IP management host to die and then run the commands Equallogic?

I hope that I managed to explain to me... I was exploring the Test-Connection cmdlet but it seems that it displays che echo of the ping instead of State... I'm a bit lost around this, can someone help me please?

Something like that would do the trick?

    $maxWait = 10

    $count += 1

  • 5.5 ESXi hosts disconnection of the vCenter 5.5.0b

Good evening. I recently deployed some new hosts HP BL465c G8 running the HP OEM install ESXi 5.5 (not the one just released 02/18) and the two hosts have been disconnect from vCenter four times in the past week. I can sometimes connect to the host via ILO and restart the vCenter agent, but more often without having to start the host hard. In addition, one of the VMFS5 content of the data store disappeared and the virtual machines residing on this data store have declined because the hosts could not find the configuration of the virtual machine files. Strangely enough, the data store showed spaced used and I could see all the directories within the CLI, but not vCenter client or Web-based Client. I have two tickets to windows with VMware from HP support team, but I wanted to know if someone had a similar problem. I'm tempted to rebuild with the latest OEM installation or rebuild as 5.1 or 5.0 if version 5.5 is not fully cooked. Thank you.

    Scott

The issue proved to be the OEM HP install and specifically the pilot v1.1.7 for HBA QMH2572 adapters that it contains. We have rebuilt our 5.5 ESXi hosts using installation OEM HP published 02/14 (contains recommendations
v1.1.12 pilot) and that solved the problem of stability.
