How can I clone a vmware ESXi machine?

Hello

I have ESXi server. I use VSphere Client to connect to the VCenter server. I can see that the clone option is available in VCenter Server.

I use VIX API for instant cash, copy the data in the comments, run the program in prompt etc. But the Clone operation is not supported in VIX API. My host computer has windows, and I use Visual c# to call the VIX API.

How can I create linked clone since I can't use the CLone of VIX API function? I want to create the clone of the development machine, when I run my c# code. I'm not interested in running the scripts in VCenter directly.

If you are new to VMware APIs/SDKs, please take a look at this documentation - getting started with vSphere SDK - Update for SDK 4.1 release

There are various SDK which binds to the vSphere API, exposed as a web services standard. Depending on your requirement/comfort and language, you select the appropriate SDK. Once again, all that which is described in getting started document, would certainly recommend that spend you the time to read the document before you start.

  • How can I create nested VMware ESXi in vCloud 5.5

    Hello

I how can I create a VM ESXi nested within vCloud 5.5.

I followed the instructions below, but it does not appear as an OS selected in the database, it creates only an option, but the drop-down list displays the 'other' os.

    http://basraayman.com/2012/03/01/enabling-nested-64-bit-virtual-hosts-on-vCloud-Director-1-5-using-MSSQL/

    Kind regards!

I just stumbled upon this problem sort of.  I had it working in 5.1 vcloud, but upgrading to vcloud 5.5 caused all sorts of havoc.

Looks like vCloud 5.5 added a drop down for the esx hosts in the family of the 'other', but it does not appear when you create a virtual machine, you must create it with some other reviews and then change the properties of the vm created for select esx guest.

If you have added the SQL statements from this link, it will completely break vCloud because there will be two entries in the database for esx and he complain of a unique key.  You must change the database and remove what you added in the link above.  The tables are guest_os_type and guest_osfamily.

    Good luck!

  • How can I add processors in ESXi?

How can I add processors in ESXi?  I have a quad-core processor, but once I allowed my server, it only allows me to use two now.  I guess I need another button, or buy some add-on?  I use ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0 123629.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm in love with this product!

ESXi is licensed per socket. So 2 quads counts as two processors.

  • How a production server of vmware ESXi ghost/acronis?

Hello, I am new to VMWare, just installed a VMWare ESXi 3.5 on HP DL380, it works really well.

is it possible to gogo/acronis/clone that server ESXi physical together to a USB HDD or something like that?

    Thanks in advance.

Follow up - with Ghost for Linux, you will begin your ESX host off an ISO serious on CD media, and then start the CD media box. From there, you will have options to write the image to disk elsewhere. I use an FTP server as a destination for the image so I have all my images of ESX host in the same place, designated as what size disk and the type of machine and date by writing a long file name that is the description. Then, if I need to restore an image to the native ESX host, I get a list of the names of files from the FTP server during the restore and just choose the correct image in the list.

I am not sure if the G4L will recognize your USB drive or not - probably depends on what is the chipset and if the G4L kernel has support in his favor. If you can lower your host ESX and G4L being free I just try and see what happens.

  • Creating a clone in VMware ESXi

In VMware Workstation, I can create a clone of 2linked' of an exisating VM, saving time and disk space.

The same functionality is available in VMware ESXi?

    Concerning

    Marius

You can do it from the GUI, but it can be done manually. Take a look at http://sanbarrow.com/linkedcloneswithesxi.html for an example. In addition to what is explained in this blog add a file .vmsd with the appropriate name and the entries in the record of the linked clone (a sample can be found at Re: deletion of snapshots of LinkedClone corrupts the other LinkedClones).

  • How can I copy files from Time Machine without going through Time Machine

I had to do a clean OS X El Capitan on my iMac install because something prevented it from closing properly. I now El Capitan without any of my old files and applications.

I want to copy my Time Machine backup, but the record has been marked by a red dot. I can't transfer manually. I don't want to go through a Time Machine, because the last time I did it, it just restore the old configuration that basically had the problem that stopped my computer of closing.

How can I manually copy the files?

    Do not restore complete.

You can 'enter Time Machine"to select files and folders to restore.

Alternately, when restoring from Time Machine backup, customize the restoration as follows: under Select the information to transfer, select only your previous user account. Do not select 'Applications', 'Computer and Network Settings' or "Other files and folders". Deselect these choices. Potentially corrupt applications, lists of properties and changes in the operating system will be migrated and will be any problem that may have been caused by them.

  • How can I fax without a fax machine

How can I send a fax without a fax machine? I have a printer connected to the PC, but also a scanner. The "Wizard" does not open. I have the opportunity to create a new fax machine instead.

    Hi John,.

Maybe the following will help you to configure the system to send faxes.  Don't forget that a new fax is like creating a new fax from the point of view of the computer - it is a question of whether or not you have already available information to fax the opposite from scratch.  http://www.ehow.com/how_6503771_send-fax-windows-vista.html.

Here's an additional article which basically says the same thing: http://www.ehow.com/how_6795144_use-scan-fax-send-fax.html.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How can I create a simple virtual machine with the CD in a newWorkflow

I created a new workflow with simple virtual machine and added a cdrom workflow but an error is shown.

How can I reuse of so that the new created VM add a new cdrom in a workflow

    Captura.PNG

    Help me please

First of all, you only need a single attribute of type VC:VirtualMachine, not two as in the screenshot. You don't need to specify its value; When the first workflow completes, its output should be attributed to this attribute, and then the assigned value must be passed as input to the second workflow.

To check/edit links, open the first workflow to change, go to the 'Visual links' tab and make sure the workflow output is line connected to the attribute. Do the same for the second workflow, and then make sure that the attribute is connected to the line to the corresponding input parameter.

Take a look at the workflow attached if you don't know how the maps should look like.

  • How can I mutual folder "discovered virtual machines.

    I use c# api.

When I get all records in a data center, I get the host, the vm and the discovery of the virtual machines folder.

When you request the property of hostFolder - you download the file from the host. It goes the same for vmFolder.

How to identify the folder "discovered virtual machines? What size should I look to find this file specifically?

I don't want to find all the files and compare names, because files can be renamed.

    Help, please.

    Thank you.

    idanmnr

Iamw is right.  The vmFolder will contain the "discovered virtual machines" folder, you would just do a search from there.

What becomes tricky is that it is possible that someone is offering this particular folder in another folder, so probably have to walk down the tree of vmFolder until you find the open folder VM.  If for a simple case, you can assume it will be one of the childEntity of vmFolder objects.

In addition, this file can be renamed as well.  I don't think that this is a special folder in inventory of VI, comes out just for a default folder that is created for use.  But maybe someone else can provide more details on that.

  • Physical disk how can I add in the Virtual Machine?

I am trying to set up a network of storage, but I discovered it is there is a limitation for the addition of physical hard disks in the virtual machine.

I have 1 virtual hard disk for the operating system (SCSI), an invited so I try to add more than 4 disks, but it should not add more than 3. They showed that (IIRC).

I try to add 4 x 1 TB as physical hard disk in virtual machine hard disks, but it says that I must remove one to add.

    1. in the settings of the Virtual Machine, is there a difference between (SCSI) (IDE) and why are the physical disks (IDE)?

    2. What is the limitation of total hard drives under the VM settings, four?

    Johwwy

physical disks can be detected such as IDE or SCSI - depends on the drivers used by the host

SATA in ide-compat mode is used as IDE

SATA AHCI mode is detected as SCSI

It is possible to rewrite the descriptions after their creation.

It is a little advanced - see my notes

    http://sanbarrow.com/VMDK-basics.html#changeadapter

for a start, it may be necessary to also change the geometry... ask first so uncertain.

I think the limit of physical disks that can be attached to a virtual machine is 64 = 4 x 15 - scsi and IDE 4-disc drives

  • How can I clone a Dell Windows 8 machine but keep the activation

I did a lot of reading and there seems to be a lot of confusion on how to actually do.

There is no Windows 8 sticker on the back of the Dell printer.

We sent a disc of Windows 8 directly from Dell.

When installing it the disc the machine starts and is already enabled.

We are eager to sysprep machine that we used the disk and then using clonezilla, a clone of this image of 'gold' to all other machines.

If someone managed to do it please give me a step-by-step procedure.

I already wiped the original and re-installed Dell operating system with the disk that does not have a key. The machine is turned on.

For the part just cloning say "use your favorite software cloning."

Please start the process step by step from here...
