How can I copy vista on a new hard drive
I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and bought the disc. Until I do so I want to install a new hard drive of 1 TB. How to copy Vista from the old drive to the new drive?
You will need to reinstall Vista on the new drive (new installation) and then turn it on and then level to Windows7 and activate that. First back up your data - it's about all you'll be able to save. You will need to reinstall all your programs and reset all settings - they can be copied on to the new drive. It works just like that. An option that allows you to transfer data a little more than a simple (but not yet the programs) is to use EasyTransfer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928635. The review process and see if you can make it work in your situation.
Sorry, that is not a solution more simple that preserves everything on the original drive, but even if you did an image backup of complete and restored to the new drive, the device driver for the hard disk would be a mistake, and it is not possible to change it with the limited access, you will need to the system without being able to boot from the hard drive. If you can find a way to install the hard disk driver after restoring using only disk access (which may be possible depending on what has been provided by the manufacturer of the hard disk - it would need to be a startup disk that can install device drivers, even if the hard drive is not available) This becomes a viable option - but I do not know how or if any manufacturer offers such a disc.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

After obtaining a hard drive in working condition, you can reinstall the software using the discs if you bought the discs, or you can download your software as a trial version and use your original serial number to activate it.

Hello ShamedMonkey,
Thank you for your message. The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac. You can, however, transfer your files between the two. I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.First, you will need to format the drive on your PC. When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.Click on "disk management".In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.FAT32:This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two. This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G. There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.NTFSThis format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac. If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself. While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files. I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try. If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.See you soonEngineer Jason Microsoft Support answers visit our Microsoft answers feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

In iMovie 9.0.4 How can I move events to an external hard drive?
Note: I am writing this issue on behalf of my daughter, who is an old iMac running 10.6.8. His version of iMovie is 9.0.4.
She has about 50 GB, events which occupies about one-third of its HD. There is an external hard drive with lots of available storage.
How to pass these events to the external hard drive?
Thank you
Owen
For a long time I used iMovie 9 but this link to the help info gives instructions: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c
Its probably safer to copy rather than move events (unless you already have a backup) just in case something goes wrong.

Hello
I'm trying to get some files off my old hard drive encrypted. He has xp on it, and I can't start on my new computer. Since it is a separate, apparently, I can't do either windows easy transfer. Is it possible for me to locate the certificate and key, or to transfer files with the key and the certificate on my new computer (I have password from the old computer if I need that)? Can I somehow run WET on this hard drive for keys/certificates can be transferred. This seems to be a common problem from what I have read.Otherwise, do you have ideas on how to start my old xp disk on my new system without reformatting?Very important to get these files.Thank you!First of all, I assume you mean encrypted files (EFS, Encrypting File System). These files are encrypted with a key that is still encrypted in your system like a certificate. In order to read your encrypted on any other system files, you must restore the certificate from a backup. The short article is mandatory for anyone considering the use of EFS:

Urgent please help: How can I find on what fills my hard drive?
My drive C guard fills, and I don't know why. Yesterday, I removed more than 40 GB of files and delete a lot more (I emptied the Recycle Bin). In the last 4 hours, filled an another 30 GB and I'm now in the red zone (5 GB in the last twenty minutes!). I only kept a very small Word document on the hard drive.
It only started past recently, in the last two weeks or more. I am on Windows Vista and I have McAfee. I recently completed a full scan and nothing significant has come.
I have only 5 GB on my C drive on the left, and there is nothing more that I can remove it. How can I find out what does this and how do I that to solve this problem?
Any emergency assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

There are two ways to compress files in windows. Zip files and built-in file compression. It's built-in file compression. For more information on compression type zip in Start - Help and Support .
Photos, music and video are already compressed. They can get larger if Windows tries to compress it any further. Also usually a bad idea to compress system files.
If you have files of worksheet they can very well be compressed. If you have files, installation files, they can also be good candidates. Web pages are also good candidates.
In Windows Explorer, blue file names means Tablet (it is the file system compression not aka zip files compressed files). Green filename means Encrypted.
To disable file names colored, in Explorer - Tools menu (Alt + T)- display tab and then clear the check box for Show encrypted or compressed NTFS in color .
Windows compression, encryption and security to work for the most part by applying attributes to a folder and the files in the folder inherit the folder.
