  I use computers for 15 years and never had anything like that happen. This morning, I tried to open the game Neverwinter on my PC and in my Start menu shortcut does not work.   From what you have stated above, I think that the file association for the shortcut LNK file has been given the misdirection of Neverwinter. I've seen this happen when opening a document or another file via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting Neverwinter (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Neverwinter as it should.

  

  The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer and the start menu will want to be opened by Neverwinter and use the icon of Neverwinter to display the shortcut bit whatever the shortcut was initially intended to open.
