I use a fairly small SSD as my drive "C:". It contains the Windows files and it is, but I don't want to install all my programs on this drive. That's what concerns the second disc of 1Terabyte.

During the installation, how can I tell Firefox to install on the second hard drive?

Yes, you can select custom during installation Setup. But the vast majority of Firefox (wise disk space) will be the user / "roaming" area folderset on the same drive that the operating system is installed on – C: / drive. This is the default zone for the Firefox profile.

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/profiles-where-Firefox-stores-user-data

After installation, you can create a new profile on a different drive for your data Firefox and customizations.

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/Profile-Manager-create-and-remove-Firefox-profiles

Before using chose the file to a custom location, you must create the folder and select this specific folder when you create the new profile. If you don't accidentally use the root folder, you risk losing everything on this disc, you will need to use an empty folder when you specify where you want the new profile.

And once you create the profile, in the custom location, do not "clean" what remains on the c: / drive from the original installation. You will need the file profiles.ini so that Firefox knows where your profile 'in service' folder

    Hello CharoltteOAH,

Mail applications and people don't work that way. You must manually enter your contacts in the people application.

If you have set up a Hotmail account or Outlook.com in your e-mail application, contacts you enter here or People.live.com will synchronize on the people app.

  • How can I reinstall Windows XP on my old laptop?

I had Windows XP Home Premium SP2, and I decided to wipe the HARD drive and install Linux Ubuntu 11.10...

He was fine, but the laptop seems to be "dissatisfied" Ubuntu on this subject (c. - d-.-it won't let me use the internal fidelity (Wi - Fi) wireless adapter to connect to our home network wireless, canning, freezing, etc.).  I know what the problem is, but the laptop does not accept the proprietary drivers that it so need...
My question to everyone who reads this post is:
How can I do to put Windows XP BACK ON w/o a floppy or a product key?  (Product key has been destroyed during the 5 years of intensive use)
    Specifications of the laptop are:
    COMPAQ PRESARIO V6000:
    CPU: AMD Turion 64 X 2 Mobile Technology TL-52 (Dual-Core) @ 1.60 GHz
    RAM: 2 GB
OS: Ubuntu 11.10 (I want to go back to Windows XP)
    Adapter Wi - Fi internal: Broadcom BCM4311 802. 11 b/g
320 HARD drive (Seagate, I think)
Please, if there is anything I can do to get back Windows XP Home Premium on my laptop without a boot disk or the product key, then I would be very happy!  Thanks in advance, everyone!

If the laptop has a recovery partition, you may be able to restore the computer as long as the plant, otherwise you're pretty much up the proverbial Creek without a paddle...

  • How can I prevent Windows 7 install the same 2 updates every time I log out

Whenever I have shut down the computer a pop filter tells me that microsoft windows 7 is 2 installation updates and to not close or unplug the computer.  This procedure takes about 3 minutes before I get the ok to stop, why what is happening and what I can do to stop it.

@harry60: to avoid confusion (mine, mainly), please start a new thread about your specific problem.  Indicate your full version of Windows (for example, Win7;) Win7 64 bit) in your first post and the numbers of KB updates that fail to install. Thank you!

  • How can I tell Windows 7 to give me permission to do what I want?

I understand the need for security. But when I'm on my own computer in my own home where no one else touches, it's ridiculous for stupid enough to tell me that I don't have permission to write to a directory, delete a file, or whatever. Other than go back to XP, is it possible to grant me all permissions to this Windows 7? I'm already the admin, of course and thought I had all the permissions.

    Thank you.

How to grant permissions in Windows 7

    1. Locate the file or the folder where you want to take in charge in Windows Explorer.
    2. right click on the file or folder and select properties from the Menu
    3. click on the Security tab, then click the button change. Click OK to confirm the UAC elevation request if necessary.
4 Select user/group permission windows or click Add to add other user or group.
    5. now under permission section check the rights you want to that is to say check? Total control? under the? Allow? column to assign control permissions to full access to the Administrators group.
    6. click Ok for the changes to take effect, then click ok final ok to exit the Properties window.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Try this:

    Toshiba Recovery:

To access the recovery partition Toshiba, powering the laptop. Press 0 (zero) key and turn on the laptop. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo, which is where you should start to type the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the device emits a sound signal or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should light up * MODE of RECOVERY of HARD drive * for a fraction of a second, and then load the Toshiba Recovery program directly from the hard drive.

Note that this clears all data and reload all the software factory default. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

You can also make recovery disk/s since the Partition of recovery in case of hard drive failure or System Crash, when you are in service again.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • How can I reinstall Windows 8 on an OEM laptop when I don't have the product key?

I bought an Asus x401a laptop for my daughter as a Christmas gift. It comes preinstalled with Windows 8. Yesterday, the unit closed at key and we had to make a hard stop. On reboot, Windows will not start and instead came up with a screen that informed it was an automatic repair. This obviously didn't want to; the unit restarted and launched the auto repair, which once again. The third box... I had a few options: I could update the installation or reset it. There were several recorded files (we only had a few weeks), so I chose Reset, which if I understand correctly, it would clear everything and start over. After a while, another screen informed me that Windows could not reset the computer, who took over the entire process to the wire.

I ran across this process several times, each time with the same result. I do not think that anything is actually wrong with the material (such as menus and other seem to work correctly; I think it's maybe just a corrupted file system) and I'd like to do a reinstall of the operating system, as it came from the factory. This is where I ran into my problem:

    • I can't download the Microsoft operating system legitimately, without providing the product key in the download tool
    • The product key is apparently built into the BIOS and not print anywhere, so I can't find my existing key without some sort of tool
    • Various tools are available to 'sniff' the product key from the BIOS, but because Windows is not running, I can't use them

So my question is: exactly what should be my next step? ASUS would have a copy of the key related to my serial number, etc.. ? Should I install an old copy of Windows 7 just so that I can run a utility to get the key from the BIOS, or who will replace the number by something else? Or is there perhaps some way I can get the key of product directly from you?

I like to keep Windows 8, as my daughter has already learned the interface, but at this point, it looks like this may be impossible by design.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

I understand that you reinstall Windows 8 in the OEM specifications.

As it is the OEM of Windows 8 version, the system manufacturer will have more details in this regard. I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the system.

  • How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 upgrade copy corresponds to?

A few years back, one of my friends gave me his old computer running Windows 7.  I just had to replace the motherboard and processor on it, and when I went to reinstall Windows, I learned that the CD Win7 key he had corresponded to a Windows 7 upgrade version.  From what I could tell, I need to install an older version of Windows first, and then use the upgrade CD to return to Win7.  I installed Windows XP Home Edition and I tried, but the CD Win7 said that I had the wrong version of Windows to upgrade.  I installed Windows Vista and got the same thing.  How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 update of that CD will modernize?

    Thank you!

Looks like the copy of Windows 7, you were trying to install from Windows XP Home Edition is a 64-bit version.

You will need to boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:
    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

Windows 8 came pre-installed on a hp Tower pre-built, am now upgrading my computer (new Mobo, Cpu, Gpu, cases, etc.) and guard my drive hard, how can I keep windows? or I have to buy a new product key?

    Hello

    Please contact Microsoft Community.

The problem description, I understand that you want to upgrade the hardware and need to confirm how can you keep your operating system.

In this case, I want to tell you that you want to keep your drive hard if you do not have to reinstall the operating system and that you upgrade the motherboard too and in the OEM version product key is integrated motherboard, so in this case, you may need contact system manufacturing to re activate your product key.

    For reference, please see:

    I hope this helps.
